The social networks bring us crumbs of comfort as thoughts turn to Rafael Van der Vaart’s hamstring. Arsene Wenger takes no chances with his precious Dutchman, while elsewhere England and Wales earn victories without taking casualties…

We gained further insight into Rafael Van der Vaart’s condition yesterday – typically via Twitter. While Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk had stated on Friday that he felt that Van der Vaart’s injury was a “mild sprain”, the player himself has gone out of his way to offer further reassurance

“Suffered a minor hamstring injury during yesterdays game against Switzerland.”

That was then followed swiftly by…

“So very disappointed I won’t play Germany in Hamburg on Tuesday, hope to be back real quick!”

The Dutchman’s Fantasy owners will gain some hope from this then, particularly given that Tottenham’s next fixture is on the Monday night, allowing Van der Vaart more time to recover from any problem. We can hopefully expect to hear more from the club themselves on the situation in the next 24-hours. Until then, it appears that Van der Vaart could still be in the frame for gameweek 12.

While the stress of losing his Dutch craftsman is the last thing Harry Redknapp needed, Arsene Wenger has taken no such risks with his prized asset. It’s been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will sit out of Holland’s friendly with Germany on Tuesday having played in Friday’s game. That would appear to assure that the Dutchman starts in Arsenal’s trip to Carrow Road in gameweek 12.

England’s vaunted 1-0 win over Spain saw an array of impressive displays from the likes of Scott Parker, Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka. Crucially, there were no apparent injuries on either side as both England and Spain made a string of second-half changes that saw Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard and Darren Bent replaced early on, while David Silva was also rested at half-time for the Spaniards.

Unfortunately, all these players face a further friendly match on Tuesday, with England hosting Sweden and Spain making the gruelling 11,000 mile trip to Costa Rica.

Fabio Capello at least confirmed following yesterday’s game that he intends to rotate his lineup for the meet with Sweden. John Terry, Gary Cahill, Kyle Walker, Bobby Zamora and Daniel Sturridge will all start Tuesday’s clash and so their Fantasy owners will certainly face further anxiety.

Gareth Bale continued his strong early season form with a rasping near post finish and another strong display as Wales saw off Norway 4-1 in Cardiff. Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy also impressed and got himself on the scoresheet, while the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ashley Williams, Joe Allen, Andrew Crofts and Steve Morison all came through the game unscathed.

Norway had John Arne Riise, Brede Hangeland and Morten Gamst Pedersen in opposition – again, there were no obvious injuries to report. Both sets of players will now return to their respective clubs ahead of gameweek 12.

Yaya Toure played out 85 minutes for the Ivory Coast in their 1-1 draw with South Africa. Brother Kolo completed the 90 minutes, as did Arsenal’s Gervinho. Tottenham’s Steven Pienaar built up his fitness following injury with 90 minutes for the home side. Again, both sets of players will now return to their clubs ahead of the weekend fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Adebayor could be worth a shout - seems to do better alongside Defoe than VDV.

And surely Bellamy deserves more starts than Carroll? Cutting in from the right and linking up with Suarez - dangerous.

i used to get up at 4am to watch the malaisian and australian round, but back then, drivers used to die hotting walls, cars used to understeer, teams used to lose their spare tire in the pitstop, and find it 60secs later and sometimes the world champ (when he was a finn) used to analyse the race by saying: "thank you"
          ohh the good old days

Yeah, I agree Oaky. The best part of the races these days is the start and jockeying into the first corner - and then only if there's a pile-up! As much as I like seeing crashes, ones like Webber's last year where he was airbourne upside-down and at top speed was sickening - watching it live, I thought he was going to die. And he ends up without a scratch. 😕

My problem is I have a midfield of Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Drenthe & Ferguson. So if I keep VDV I will have to play 4,3,3

        Vorm
        Raylor, ShawX, Enrique, Jones
        Silva, Ramsey, Drenthe
        Rooney, Adebayor, Augero

Subs - Ruddy, Naylor, VDV, Ferguson

Silva if you don't already have him....otherwise I think Nani is a good option. I know that has not been the case of late but I have faith that United are going to pick up momentum and with Nani and Rooney at the helm. Favorable fixtures too!!

Surely you just me the majority of last season??? Or were you l=playing Dutch FPL?

VDV is worth having even with his injury woes. There are enough players you can transfer him out for and with him basically being a forward on pens and FKs he's just to good to ignore when fit.

Don't worry man, he'll be fine.

I really hope people dont start getting carried away by the result last night. yes England won a game when it doesn't count, as they have done so on numerous occasions before. personally I was completely unexcited by the game and the result. it doesn't change the fact that when it really matters, England either bottle it or underperform. I have 0% expectation that England will do anything in the summer

I disagree, sure Spain had all the possesion but they could not do anything with it. This is the England I want to see, playing to their skills. If we defend with a passion like that, then we cannot lose. But its true we do need a little cutting edge up front.

Just need our young strikers to gell into partnerships, plenty of talent with Wellbeck,Sturridge,Agbon. Bit of solidity from Bent, and more young English talent to be tried out. Our defence was starting to look good and our mids speedy and skillful. We just need to sharpen up a lot on the 1/2 touch short, rapid passing game, which Spain totally outclassed us in.

I don't know whether I should talk quietly to my hand, or whether I should begin a new school of musical thought with my right foot. Admittedly, the talent of the cheese is always differential to the quality of the left foot's physiology, but all is not lost when the West is won. One. Won. Or not. If it isn't, then the best truth I can say about it is that I like it many times more than most, but less than a few and living. Always living. And dreaming. Living the dream.

If England loose some of their overly experienced players they will do well this summer. If we have terry and Ferdinand in defence with lamps and gerrard in midfield England will do well the get to the quarter finals with a single win under their belt

keep an eye on Boyata's injury, he is a great attacking def for Bolton (£4.0m)

Simpson is the best long term, bad fixtures now dough, Wilkinson, Turner, Taylor(Swans), McAuley,

More expensive budget options:Enrique, Assou- Ekotto, Hibbert, Brown,

I have been considering rodwell for a couple of weeks now. Thinking I might finally give up on Moses. He looked pretty good for England. He has had pretty good game time for everton and now is usually when everton start thier season. Do you think it would be a good move.

anything is better than moses atm, however if u are to keep moses, at the start of december u should get rid, fixtures oblige

Yes but at 5.3, I'd use the extra money to get Drenthe if you could. Otherwise why not.

    A) VDV to Bale and then use the money to strengthen other parts of my team.
    or
    B) Stick with VDV?
