The social networks bring us crumbs of comfort as thoughts turn to Rafael Van der Vaart’s hamstring. Arsene Wenger takes no chances with his precious Dutchman, while elsewhere England and Wales earn victories without taking casualties…

We gained further insight into Rafael Van der Vaart’s condition yesterday – typically via Twitter. While Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk had stated on Friday that he felt that Van der Vaart’s injury was a “mild sprainâ€, the player himself has gone out of his way to offer further reassurance

“Suffered a minor hamstring injury during yesterdays game against Switzerland.â€

That was then followed swiftly by…

“So very disappointed I won’t play Germany in Hamburg on Tuesday, hope to be back real quick!â€

The Dutchman’s Fantasy owners will gain some hope from this then, particularly given that Tottenham’s next fixture is on the Monday night, allowing Van der Vaart more time to recover from any problem. We can hopefully expect to hear more from the club themselves on the situation in the next 24-hours. Until then, it appears that Van der Vaart could still be in the frame for gameweek 12.

While the stress of losing his Dutch craftsman is the last thing Harry Redknapp needed, Arsene Wenger has taken no such risks with his prized asset. It’s been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will sit out of Holland’s friendly with Germany on Tuesday having played in Friday’s game. That would appear to assure that the Dutchman starts in Arsenal’s trip to Carrow Road in gameweek 12.

England’s vaunted 1-0 win over Spain saw an array of impressive displays from the likes of Scott Parker, Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka. Crucially, there were no apparent injuries on either side as both England and Spain made a string of second-half changes that saw Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard and Darren Bent replaced early on, while David Silva was also rested at half-time for the Spaniards.

Unfortunately, all these players face a further friendly match on Tuesday, with England hosting Sweden and Spain making the gruelling 11,000 mile trip to Costa Rica.

Fabio Capello at least confirmed following yesterday’s game that he intends to rotate his lineup for the meet with Sweden. John Terry, Gary Cahill, Kyle Walker, Bobby Zamora and Daniel Sturridge will all start Tuesday’s clash and so their Fantasy owners will certainly face further anxiety.

Gareth Bale continued his strong early season form with a rasping near post finish and another strong display as Wales saw off Norway 4-1 in Cardiff. Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy also impressed and got himself on the scoresheet, while the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ashley Williams, Joe Allen, Andrew Crofts and Steve Morison all came through the game unscathed.

Norway had John Arne Riise, Brede Hangeland and Morten Gamst Pedersen in opposition – again, there were no obvious injuries to report. Both sets of players will now return to their respective clubs ahead of gameweek 12.

Yaya Toure played out 85 minutes for the Ivory Coast in their 1-1 draw with South Africa. Brother Kolo completed the 90 minutes, as did Arsenal’s Gervinho. Tottenham’s Steven Pienaar built up his fitness following injury with 90 minutes for the home side. Again, both sets of players will now return to their clubs ahead of the weekend fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Now that anderson and cleverly or carrick will be returning to the midfield, rooney will be pushed up top, alongside hernandez maybe... anyone reckon welbeck might start on the left ahead of park?? that makes it nani and welbeck on the right and left respectively...

No, not really. VDV maybe out but you have good cover on bench.

Perhaps having 2 Newc and Swansea defenders may not be ideal over the next 3 weeks. Consider Simpson/Naylor --->Wilko/McAuley?

I dont think he is for the time being. Perhaps when Higginbotham is fit again. Wilko would provide good cover for sort term and if he becomes a rotation risk then an easy swap for Gabbidon in GW15/16.

I've got 0.3 in the bank - not that keen on Wilko either. A rotation risk, plus Stoke defence without Shawcross a little scary. And their fixtures get worse after a couple of weeks.

Every team is different. There are 50 good players to pick from that most teams will be made from, but no 2 teams are the same. How many people have Rooney and Sturridge these days? On a given week these guys can make a huge impact.

Krul/Vorm in goal is a problem that I have too. I think Krul to Westwood or Howard is a good switch, or just stick Vorm in goal the next few weeks and hope for him to get a lot of saves.

I'd also consider transferring out Sturridge too. Maybe Bendtnar.

Graeme Le Saux was hopping around
Ewood Park like a big playground
When suddenly Barton burst out from the crowd
And threw an empty lager bottle at Phil Dowd.
Le Saux got pissed 'cause he thought it was mean
But didn't expect to get jumped by Keane
The reasons being we just couldn't construe
Then Alf-Inge Haaland came out of the Blue

And he started striking out at the red legend
Then they both got attacked by Andy Townsend
But before he could make it back to the ITV studio
Andy Gray tried his hand at some judo
And pulled some karate nunchucks out from under his desk
And struck Townsend down, it was quite grotesque
But the nunchucks broke and he ran away
Because Wayne Rooney came to save the day

This is the Ultimate Showdown... of the Barclays Premier League
Good guys, bad guys, and explosions... as far as the eye can see
And only one will survive, i wonder who it will be
This is the Ultimate Showdown... of the Barclays Premier League

Le Saux pulled a chunk out of Rooneys hair transplant
As the fans in the stadium began to chant
Then Keane came back, he was almost bareback
Then Park Ji-Sung jumped out and landed on his back
Townsend was injured and trying to get steady
When Andy Gray came back with a machete
But then suddenly something caught his leg he could feel
Frank Lampard took him out with a Big Mac meal

Then he saw Le Saux sneaking up from behind
And he reached for a fork which he just couldn't find
Because Townsend stole it and he threw it and he missed
Then Park Ji-Sung deflected it with his fist
Then he jumped in the air and he did a somersault
While Andy Gray tried to pole vault
Onto Wayne Rooney, but they collided in the air
And both got slapped by Gary Linekars ear

This is the Ultimate Showdown of the Barclays Premier League
Good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see
And only one will survive, i wonder who it will be
    This is the Ultimate Showdown...

Fans chanted out, in a praying cry
Down from the stands, descended Dave Mackay
Who delivered a punch, that could shatter ribs
Into the crotch, of Ryan Giggs
Who fell over on the ground, writhing in pain
Then approached offering help, was David James
But Mackay had no chance, of standing for this
As he grabbed David James' hands and snapped his wrists.

Then Gus Poyet and MBE Ian Wright,
Cristiano Ronaldo, and of course Yorke, Dwight
    Patrick Vieira and Alan Shearer
Gianfranco Zola and Matt Le Tissier
Peter Crouch, John Terry, Bergkamp and Henry
Hernandez, Torres and every single FC
    Didier Drogba and Nolberto Solano
Sheringham, Ferdinand, Ginola and Di Canio
All came out of nowhere Walcott fast
And they kicked MacKay and his pensioner ass
It was the bloodiest battle that the world ever saw
With supporters looking on in total awe

And the battle raged on for a century
Many lives were claimed but eventually
The champion stood, the rest were not worthy
Shola Ameobi in a blood-stained jersey.

Sturridge was sacrificed in a game where Drogba/Bosingwa got sent off. Not really his fault.

He was very wasteful against Arsenal, should have scored. Bad game.

Should have been better against Blackburn but Chelsea was always playing for a 1-0 win in that game it seemed.

So only 2 bad games, not exactly an extended run of poor form.

2 home matches against Liverpool/Wolves are not bad fixtures.

The reason I think it's crazy is because it seems like you're upset he's leaking value, because otherwise what has he done to upset you in the last 24 hours? But at this point I think it's too late. At least wait until he's about to drop again.

I just feel that having 2 strikers who at the moment are getting me 4 points between them is ludicrous. However I believe rooneys form will return and I am prepared to wait for that. However in the entire time I've had sturridge he's scored once...
What I don't understand is that people think it a good idea to do sturridge to Tue bendy bus, but in my opinion there are better players for that price to be had, albeit with worse fixtures!

I'm not against taking a hit but none of the alternatives you suggested looked obvious choices to make up those 4 pts, short or long term. I'm not convinced by the Bendy bus either but you can't argue with the favourable fixtures he's got coming up.

Dj Campbell is injured plus the lack of goalscoring form from Bothroyd and Smith let Helguson in, Bothroyd might possibly get a run again. QPR fan would give a more accurate answer.

Walters good for two weeks, then the games start to get harder for Stoke. If you can afford a transfer, get Walters in for next two, then Drenthe after that. That would allow monitoring exactly how good Drenthe is, how likely he is to start every game, etc.

    Please can you RMT?

    Given (vorm)

    Richards, Jones, Ward (Simpson, Gabbidon)

    Silva, Petrov, VDV, Moses (dyer)

    Rooney, RVP, Adebayor

I have one free transfer and 0.2m in the bank.

What do you think I should do?

I was thinking of doing one of the following:

    1. Given to Westwood

    2. Given to Westwood AND petrov to either Ramsey, drenthe or sessegnon (-4)

    Please vote ASAP!!!!

VDV out Moses in has to be the single worst transfer idea I have ever seen.

Even if VDV's legs fell off, he has his name changed to Ferguson and gets loaned out to Shef Wed he would still be a better prospect than Moses.

Why not bench him for a week. Your team is better than most for next week.

Awful defence. get rid of baines, tierney, naughton, de vries and given (less priority).

Downgrade Baines to Jones/Kompany etc and spread the cash over defence.

drog, toures, maybe essien, kalou, mikel etc. So torres, raul miereles should be nailed for that period. Early preparation. At city either de jong comes in or milner plays deep allowing nasri and silva to play for that period. Arsenal song, gervinho so ashavin will play and wilshire. Cant be bothered for the rest.

I'm planning on bringing in Drenthe (nice diff) for Petrov, but anything else you'd consider, assuming VDV is fine for next weekend.

    Vorm Krul
    Bosingwa Kompany Jones Ward Simpson
    VDV Silva Petrov Dyer Walters
    RVP Suarez Sturridge

    Bank: 2.0

Bosingwa: Interesting that he's not in the Portugal squad yet Ivan will have played twice - possible Bos will come back in? Wolves at home afterwards too.

Ward: His 10 points seems to have saved him from dropping in price and Wolves do have a home game vs Sunderland coming up - but I imagine I'll sell in the next few weeks.

Sturridge: Not sure why people are selling. He scored (disallowed) vs Rovers and only went over vs QPR as they were down to 10 men so was a forced move.

Suarez: 4 goals for his country and playing well, just unlucky with his chances.

Yeah I don't think there's much to improve really. Nothing major anyway.

I guess Bosingwa out (probs for McAuley) frees up money and grabs the profit gained from him - but then if he starts, I'll kick myself.

I paid the same. Decided to sell with a return of 5.9 so that I could bring in Jones. I wouldn't personally make any more changes to your team at the expense of a hit. You can easily go three at the back with those defenders and you have enough in reserve to cover VDV

Bos:he could be like Kolarov and be played against weaker oppositions(personally got rid before hes drop in price

Ward: get rid as soon as possible

Sturr: im still keeping as well, but im getting impatient

Suarez: Everyone is missing 1 fact that Chile dropped 5 players for misconduct before the game, at least 4 of them were first choice. So I would hold my excitement on him, if you also look at last seasons stats, hes conversion rate has not gotten worse, so you are still looking at 10-14 goals per season IMO, which is not good enough for 10 mil striker.

He's looked very dangerous in the last few games and Blackburn have some tasty fixures.

Yeah.. Rooney will be back upfront soon and United's fixtures until Winter WC time are pretty sexual.

I think its just a bad move, I for one got rid of him once the tough run of fixtures started back in GW7, and now im looking to get him back in before he heats up again. So if you have held on through the bad fixtures now would be smart to hold on and reap the points of the nice run of fixtures up to 10 gameweeks or smhtng. He will move upfront in the next game probably too.

I have moves to make before shipping him out, but for GW13 I may ship him out for Rooney.

I'm keeping as I've done my tranny's for this week. He can score against anyone but, like Aguero, has been disappointing. Probably be rested this week which is even more gutting but I'm still happy to have him in my team as L'pool have no Euro exposure.

Right, my midfield is in absolute tatters. Last week my entire midfield managed only 17 minutes of football. Partly my fault for getting Cleverley in too early.

Nasri, Cleverley, Derry, M Petrov, Sinclair.

I have 4.8 in the bank. Thinking I simply must get rid of Nasri and Petrov. Maybe Drenthe and Silva in?

Nasri brilliant but hardly plays, rather use Silva. Cleverley's a good player but will he stay injury free? If he does he's good value. Havent seen much of Drenthe but I believe he is a booking waiting to happen. Have you thought about Cahill, surely he must start scoring soon?

Blood is thicker than water, but maple syrup is thicker than blood.

Does that mean pancakes are more important than family?

Pancakes are far too good to spoil with maple syrup. Simple lemon juice is what one requires ... 🙂
