Chris Brunt is one of those players that, more often than not, tends to frustrate as a Fantasy option. By the season end, he’s usually racked up a respectable tally (121 and 130pts in his two Premier League campaigns to date) but the Irishman has a habit of returning points when perhaps least expected.

The start of the season sums him up. The opening game saw Brunt pick up 7 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points against Man United before going on to return a total of 6 points over his next four gameweeks, despite showdowns with the likes of Swansea and Norwich. It’s almost as if he demands a place in your starting XI week-in, week-out “just in caseâ€, with the notion of form and fixtures typically thrown out the window.

There’s little doubt he has the potential. After eleven gameweeks, the West Brom man sits on 44 points, the same number as Mikel Arteta and Yaya Toure, more than Aaron Ramsey and Ramires, and just a single point behind Samir Nasri. At 5.8, he’s lower in cost than any of the aforementioned midfielders and clearly returns strong value for a mid-priced option- it’s perhaps a test of patience as to whether you can keep the faith when the scoring inevitably dries up.

Using our ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, we analyse his performances so far and, comparing them to last term, look to see just how he’s doing this time round for Roy Hodgson’s Baggies:

Right folks. I need to bring in a striker and a mid for this GW.

[x] If I opt for Bendy, I can put Drenthe or Walters
[x] With Hoilett, I can choose between Drenthe, Wallters and Ramsey
[x] Or with the Yak, I can have Dren, Rams, Walters or Lennon.

    What say guys ?

Yak is a no no so that rules out 3x.
Bendy rules out 1x. 2x doesn't appeal either. It's so hard to provide advice when you don't agree with the options. ðŸ™

Brunt on Pens but may be missing the strikers to assist. Drenthe somewhat unproven, on some setpiece's but Everton not setting the world on fire.

Most will say Drenthe, I'd say Brunt.... just! Was looking to upgrade moses in a week or 2 to Brunt, by that time hopefully some strikers back.

No. It'll take lot of time. He still has to come back from international matches. Then he can request for a personal hearing sometime next week. Then there will be lot of deliberation. Only then it'll take effect. Around 4-5 weeks I'd say.

No, of course not. That is highly inappropriate whether you know the player on whatever the basis.

Not you but I think it's just a little dangerous to be accusing someone of such a serious charge when the facts and evidence are not known.

Yeah, I know. It would've been much helpful for you to comment if I had posted my full team. Here it is.

            Vorm, Ruddy

            Shax, Evans, Enriq, Kompany, Brown

VDV, Silva, Larsson ( Suspended this week), BJ ( Doubtful) and Ferguson - never plays.

            Rooney, RVP and Adeb

I ended up with only 9 playing last GW, no way to beef up my team other than selling Adeb to either of Bendy or Hoilett. if I'm getting Bendy, it's Ekotto who will join up in for Evans. If Hoilett, Walters will come in for Ferguson.

How you rate them for long term?

You see this is why it's so hard for me on here some times. You have three expensive defenders in your team which I would never invest in in a month of Sundays.

If you get rid of Bad K and ShawX you spend a little more in midpark. I don't see the point in Ferguson who is just burning 4 million in your team. Try to look for the cheapest way into a defence so that you have more money to spend in the higher scoring areas of FPL i.e. Midfield and Forwards.

I'd downgrade Ade for Studge and see if you can upgrade Larsson. Your other two mids can come from Dyer, Milkman and if you have the faith, Eagles.

And I know they're kinda averge players, but it's actually average players from average teams who make the difference. Mostly, everyone have got Silva, Vaart and RVP in there teams, so it's those names that set everyone of us apart, otherwise we would end up having the same overall points wouldn't we?

That is true but you need to pick what you think is the best team out there regardless of ownership %s. I think only a fifth of all players have RVP so he's still relatively unowned by the vast majority.

Go hard out now and worry about diffs later in the season.

Westwood seems a good value for a couple of weeks, but it will be a pain to transfer him out when his cohorts recover unless you still have a WC or you plan to do it in Jan.

I'm afraid to go with Rodwell because I would be settling on him instead of just dropping Suarez for the likes of Bendtner/Morison/Graham and waiting til next week to upgrade Bannan. I only have .4 in the bank and would rather not drop Walters, VDV, or Silva. (Dyer is my other).

Yeh if Westwood comes in he'll more then likely go during the Jan Wildy. Unfortunately i've played my first.

I see your dilemma, however the points are coming up front thick and fast, i'm not a fan of the budget option bar probably Studge. Maybe downgrade Suarez to Studge to upgrade Bannan next week.

I can't understand all this sudden interest in Assou-Ekotto. Spurs hardly ever keep clean sheets, even at home, and he's managed only two assists so far for a fairly attacking side.

On the other hand, young Formica is very tempting, particularly as Wig vs Bla could be a cricket score.

he's the cheapest regularly starting defender form the top 6(if u exclude newcastle)
he's got fixtures that can actually give tottenham a few cleanies.
and he poses a little threat going forward too. not as much as walker but he's well capable of coming up with those odd assists every now and then

Hey Jafa, how may I copy your team this week?

I feel like either Bendy or Drenthe will have a big week this week, and I'll fail because I have neither.

I just want to hold onto Studge for two more weeks and Moses for one more.

Anyway, Tierney out for Brown this week for me, you?

I really want Drenthe this week as I feel he will do something too, but I have no space for him. Every single one of my similar priced mids have decent fixtures for the next few games. Walters, Sessegnon. Then I also have Nani & VDV, who are obviously staying put.

Ha, I see you have Moses and ShawX. If you want the same team as me, I'm currently looking at the dullest trade I can think of: MaCauley for Tierney.

lol I want McAuley too! As soon as I am done with Shawx in two weeks, mcauley is the replacement. Which, since I am getting rid of tierney for brown this week.....means that we will have the same defenders. If I only I could get in the damn milkman.

I do have two frees, but Im going to save one so I can jump on either the bendy bus of the Dretheybus next week. Or, if the worst should happen, take Rooney out behind the shed and cash in.

I've been debating this all week. Currently have Vorm & Ruddy, so the option is there to just play Vorm every week (also missed out on some of the Vominator's heroics) or alternatively use my trade to get Westwood for Ruddy and probably still miss out on the heroics. Just not sure...

Thats a lot of cash spent in the DF.

With Cleanies at a premiuim this season (plus a lot of those cleanies going to the 'weaker' teams) are you sure you want to adopt that strategy?

You could downgrade Komp (fixtures) & Baines (way too overpriced/emergence of Drenthe) and upgrade Ade to Rooney/Aguero or Bale to Nani/VDV

I wanted everton def coverage due to good fixtures and I thought Baines might be a good differential

Too many uncertainties this week with VDV (injury), Rooney (position) and Aguero (injury, fixture)

I might downgrade Baines to Jagielka and upgrade Bale to VDV

reason I ask is this: if i were to go vorm every week i could drop al habsi for the cheapest keeper in the game giving me the funds to finally dump moses for rodwell.

the other way to raise the funds is to drop sinclair for pilkington and then do moses for rodwell.

I assume your playing BK/Enigue ever week and rotating the others. Get a 4mill def and use the spare cash to upgrade elsewhere.

ChopaToni(4.8m) has a double in gw 20 coming up and nice fixtures. For 4m you can get Mcauley.

You don't HAVE to spend 5.3m on the 5th def. I have 3x4m in defence!

sure he blocked with a handball. But he was rightfully punished.
He got sent off and a penalty was awarded to Ghana. Its not his fault Gyan missed wasn't it.

ah, we can talk about this all day but the fact is, it was a guaranteed goal for Ghana.

          100% sure.

straight in the back of the net, no way of stopping it fairly.

          then Luis happened.

Nani Silva Ramsey Mata (Ferguson :/)
    RVP Ada Agbon

I brought De Gea in about 2 weeks ago as there wasn't any certainty with regards to United's defence (not for a cheaper price anyway) and I wanted a slice of the pie. I'm rather adamant that I'd like to keep him for the next few weeks, but should you guys have any suggestions for him, or anyone else I'd be happy to listen and give it a thought.

Vorm is better value than De Gaea and doesn't get 'rested'.

I think you're better off downgrading him to Vorm and upgrade N Taylor to P Jones instead. I'd personally feel more comfortable with that defence than the one you have at the moment.

I'd also look at someone like Drenthe, Pilkington or Sess instead of Ramsey who, FPL wise, really doesn't look worth the £6.7m people are paying for him.

Ferguson is on your bench every week anyway but may be worth changing him to someone like Joe Allen if/when you have the cash.

Don't you read the league stories that Mr. Tatum spends hours constructing?

Look back at them and you'll see that it's an FPL league for us 'Geniuses'. Called 'Committed to Excellence', the Raiders motto.

I'm doing so shockingly badly in NFL fantasy that I've kind of lost all interest.

I change my team every week but that's about it.

Really, who knew that Chris Johnson, Philip Rivers and Reggie Wayne would all suck this season?

Rivers is the most strange, Don't understand it. Wayne without Manning and Johnson being found out/been paid are both unsurprising to me.

Why do people want Everton defensive cover for? Its not like they keep a lot of cleanies.

Not sure why people are piling on Spurs defenders now either. They're another frustrating defence that seems to concede no matter who they play or whether they win or not.

I know DGW20 and all that but, still, I think the attacking players of those teams appear to be better value than their defenders.

    That's just my observations, anyway.

    Carry on.

ChopaToni isn't going to get a CS, assist or boners. No way, no how. Everton will lose heavily to Spurs and draw 1-1 with Bolton in the other game. That's what my crystal ball says, anyway 😯

first of everton are a very good balanced team with very good defence. they played all the big teams and are yet to conceed big in a game. and since their back and midfield lines are still the same as last year, people expect their returs to be the same.

in the spurs camp things are different however. people are not piling up the defenders, they are buying Karl Wlaker who spends half the game in the opposition half. the other option BAE is less appealing on the attack front but still doing ok when it comes to assists.

        I reiterate what I said.

Neither keep clean sheets very often and the reality is that VdV, Bale and Adebayor pretty much have the monopoly on Spurs attacking points.

Everton may not lose big to teams but the fact is they lose a lot of games and they concede in most of the ones they play.

Not for me, thanks, Big Oak.

I think the Spurs defensive options most of us are considering are Kyle Walker and BAE, who both have attacking point potential.
I agree on Everton defence, but there is still a lot of love for Baines around ( I still think FPL overpriced him this year). despite Drenthe taking some of the set piece duties.

@ Katie, frustratingly, I need .1 to afford Formica.

Nomar, the irony is it's Vorm (who I bought for 4.0) that I traded for De Gea, if I had to buy him back now I'd lose money as well as the accompanying feeling of being a supreme twat. Thus I've been holding on to De Gea in a feeble attempt to vindicate a knee-jerk transfer. How sure are we that P Jones will start though? At the time, my reasoning for getting De Gea was that United let a lot of shots through, allowing him to make a lot of saves, that accompanied by the favourable run of fixtures made me go for it. Is this nullified by the fact that he seems to be a rotation risk now?

I think if Ramsey does nothing this weekend again, I'll ship him out for Drenthe.

Sporting, I would have loved to do that, but I'm sitting at -4 already, because of my previous hard-headed insistence not to jump on the RVP train. I'm non-conformist like that.

You wouldn't lose money. Quite the opposite, although you would be paying more for Vorm than you had originally, you'd have a little bit extra in the bank for transfer dealings e.g. Formica.

Follow the Bill Belichick rule, eh Katie.

For you information, Belichick's rule is this: If you make a mistake with a player then its better to get rid as quickly as possible rather than stubbornly hang on to him just because you don't want to be seen admitting you made a mistake.

Think about that for a minute, SavageCabbage.

I am looking to get rid of Bos before his price drops. My current defence is Bos, Richards, Enrique, S Taylor and Brown. I have 1.1M in the bank. I am considering Jones, Olsson, Choppa Toni, Jagielka, Wilkinson, McAuley and the Verminator. To make it easier and quicker to reply, who should I get out of:

    1.Jones
    2. Olsson
    3. Choppa Toni
    4. Jagielka
    5. Wilkinson
    6. McAuley
    7. Verminator

To be honest I think that Jones and Vermaelen are the best BUT if I get a cheap defender like Wilkinson, Olsson or McAuley they may only score slightly less than Jones and Vermaelen and I'll have money in the bank to help towards upgrading players at a later date eg Ade to Rooney............
