Chris Brunt is one of those players that, more often than not, tends to frustrate as a Fantasy option. By the season end, he’s usually racked up a respectable tally (121 and 130pts in his two Premier League campaigns to date) but the Irishman has a habit of returning points when perhaps least expected.

The start of the season sums him up. The opening game saw Brunt pick up 7 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points against Man United before going on to return a total of 6 points over his next four gameweeks, despite showdowns with the likes of Swansea and Norwich. It’s almost as if he demands a place in your starting XI week-in, week-out “just in case”, with the notion of form and fixtures typically thrown out the window.

There’s little doubt he has the potential. After eleven gameweeks, the West Brom man sits on 44 points, the same number as Mikel Arteta and Yaya Toure, more than Aaron Ramsey and Ramires, and just a single point behind Samir Nasri. At 5.8, he’s lower in cost than any of the aforementioned midfielders and clearly returns strong value for a mid-priced option- it’s perhaps a test of patience as to whether you can keep the faith when the scoring inevitably dries up.

Using our ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, we analyse his performances so far and, comparing them to last term, look to see just how he’s doing this time round for Roy Hodgson’s Baggies:

You reckon' Suarez or Rooney will drop tonight?

Have 2,5 m in bank which gets me Rooney for Suarez and 0m in bank.

                  What is your defence like?
I don't see Sturridge doing anything this week, and have only seen Drenthe play once so I can't judge him but I am guessing he could outscore him by 4, but it depends who you have to play without Evans.

I'm on wc and can't decide between Aguero and Rooney.
I'll have good squad and if everything goes as planned (no injuries), I don't even need transfers before gw16.
But I'm not totally stupid, so I'm aware that in real life, it never works that way.

So, would you take rooney in now or aguero for next three gw's, then change for rooney?
Worry is that rooney is certain for 90 mins, aguero only for 60 mins.
I'll have money in the bank, so change would be made by one transfer.
Even tempted to ping pong with them for gw's 12-15, but that'll never work....

    Cheers!

Even though Rooney hasn't done much of late due to position change I think he's the better option.

Better run of fixture, should be playing up front more with the return of some other midfeild options, United have missed him up front cause everything goes through him.

Anyway, morning everyone, I'm struggling with my transfer this week:

    MaCauley Wilkinson ShawX

the beauty of Drenthe is that he doesn't have to start to get pts. He will at least get 30 mins or so and with his speed among a tired opposition that could be a pts explosion. The thing that impresses me about Drenthe is that he was unwanted there and feels he has a pt to proove. He is also playing for a long term contract and wants his shop window to be lovely and shiny this season. Attitude counts for a lot and he is top of my wish list atm.

I'm looking into doing Mertesacker->Jags this week. But I've already been hurt by having an Everton defender this season (had Baines for the first 6 weeks) and I'm not too sure about them, even though their fixtures are tempting. But I can also afford Mertesacker->Jones. Any opinions on either trade?

im going for EVE defender this week, and it`d go for the cheapest one, Hibbert. also i think that the Jag could be a great deal (i dont have money for him) rather then jones, couse even with Smalling injured, i dont see Jones as nailed on starter! If i am going for UTD defender it would be Vidic or no one!

    Vorm, Krul
    Enrique, Ward, Rangel, ShawX, McAuley
    Silver, VDV, Ramsey, Drenthe, Eagles
RVP, Bendy, Aguero(swap for Rooney GW15)

I have a slightly new strategy where I want the most attacking defenders on a budget as Im not particularly concerned with Clean sheets at the moment. If anyone can think of a more attacking player than McAuley at a similar price let me know.

McAuley and ShawX > BAE and Wilkinson is always possible if you want more attacking defenders. But in saying that I think the two you have are better choices as Spurs don't do cleanies (although..who does?)

Because Stoke are very prone to getting thrashed after Europa league games. Plus if they concede a goal, they concedes 2 or more 50% of the time. At least Sunderland haven't conceded no more than 2 goals in any game this season

I guess you save a little bit of money but I'd rather have ShawX over Brown. Having said that I myself will be getting Brown next week - But thats because I have Ritchie to Delete from my squad.

Wilko for Delete you mean? I have ShawX so don't want to double up on Stoke.

I also have this nagging doubt concerning Wilkinson, Higgo back now plus I read Pulis is sniffing around Ridgewell too, so I don’t think he is entirely happy with his wing backs.

Ha! I’m sorry Damo! It is merely my opinion, others would say different. If you are just doing a straight swap then go for it, Wilko is much more likely to play than de Laet and de Laet will lose .1 probably before the deadline or early next week. It works for you if you don’t have any other Stoke defenders too.

Does anyone else struggle to take the same advice they give to others?

It's so easy to tell someone else not to take a hit to take Suarez out for Bendtner/Adebayor but it's just soo tempting. I need that deadline.

Yeah, I'm better this season than last. Maybe I just make a defensive transfer:

Enrique, Ward & Saylor all have pretty tough fixtures for the next couple.

Suarez is a frustrating player to own atm. I would never advise a -4 hit unless it was for injury or suspension in order to get 11 players on the pitch. Personally I am not tempted by starting a GW -4 behind if it can be avoided

Hello everyone, thank the lord the international break is almost OVER!

Think I might save my transfer and go with the following:

    Vorm

    Kompany, Richards, Shawcross

    VDV, Silva, Nani, Murphy

    RVP, Sturridge, Graham

    subs: Enrique, Tiote, Simpson

I am concerned that Nani may be rested but as he is my only Man U cover I don't think losing him is a smart play with Man U's fixtures coming up.
Any one care to offer an opinion on that team?
Good luck to those in the qualifying for the Paddy Power Cup!

I'm a little bit worried about that as well but after his goal in midweek for Portugal his confidence should be high and SAF will probably play him wide, hernandez through the middle and Rooney may well be deeper again to continue the theme of keeping away games Clean sheets. At least this is what I'm hoping so Nani plays!!

I'm looking at the watchlist and thinking

"Would I really have Formica, Rodwell, Allen and Pilkington over Jamie O'Hara?"

I know he has a mixed bag of fixtures but we've all learnt not to trust the fixtures too much in this game.

He's been threatening all season and has just started to hit FPL form. Granted I'd rate the rest of the people on the watchlist above him in his price range more.

    Anyone agree? Disagree?

Yeah but there's no guarantee he's going to play behind the striker again is there? Fletcher is back. A deep lying O'Hara is influential, yes, but scores F all fantasy wise.

Replacing a 4.5M defender, and planning to get in Rooney/Aguero in nearest future, so really tempted by the budget options (Wilkinson/McAuley) though im not convinced about WBA defence and the rotation risk of Wilko.

My other option is going up abit in the price range and get BAE/ShawX. Have Begovic as Stoke defensive cover.
