We pop out to the Weekly Shop for our final Wednesday article, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As per usual, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Given that Crystal Palace have lost their last five consecutive home matches, conceding 12 goals in the process, they face a tough task to halt Leicester City’s charge for the title as the league leaders visit Selhurst Park this weekend. Against Newcastle, Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $4,000) kept a third clean sheet in four league outings, while investment in the usual outfield assets also looks set to continue returning points.

Craig Dawson (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) is expected to be fit for West Brom’s encounter with Norwich City as he looks to add to his three-goal haul this season. If the right-back misses out, though, Jonas Olsson (FantasyBet 4m, Draftkings $2,200) or Gareth McCauley (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $2,100) could be worth considering. Alex Neil’s side are struggling for goals, having failed to net in five of their last seven matches, so clean sheet points look on the cards for the Baggies’ rearguard.

Swansea may have fallen to defeat to in-form Bournemouth but Francesco Guidolin has overseen a revival in the Welsh side’s fortunes of late, picking up back-to-back wins prior to the encounter at Dean Court. A home tie with basement-dwellers Aston Villa is a promising opportunity for the Swans to distance themselves from a relegation scrap and they offer us strong options at either end of the pitch. Ashley Williams (FantasyBet 4.5m) has been the stand-out defender, picking up 20 points from seven clean sheets, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson (FantasyBet 7m) has been the main goal threat, scoring seven times in 11 appearances since the turn of the year.

Harry Kane’s (FantasyBet 9.5m) season appears to be on an upward trajectory as Spurs head into the run-in with a chance of silverware. The forward’s double against Aston Villa leaves him one strike short of the 20-goal mark ahead of a home clash with a Bournemouth outfit that’s kept only three clean sheets on their travels. Encouragingly, Kane has produced double the number of shots on target than Sergio Aguero (12 to six) over their respective last four matches.

Poundstretchers

Watford’s win over Arsenal in the FA cup could kick-start their league form after a recent run of inconsistent displays. Considering that eight of the Hornets’ ten shut-outs this campaign have arrived at Vicarage Road, Heurelho Gomes (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,800) and his backline clearly prefer home comforts, and the visit of a Stoke side that have blanked in half of their last eight away ties bodes well for the Brazilian shot-stopper.

Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m) makes another appearance in the bargain picks – the defender helped Spurs to a first clean sheet in five at Villa Park and remains a budget route into the meanest defence in the division. Eric Lamela (FantasyBet 6.5m) may not have the allure of more obvious picks such as Dele Alli (FantasyBet 5m) and Christian Eriksen (FantasyBet 8.5m) but the Argentine is quietly having a productive season with three goals and five assists tallied so far. Over the last six, he’s recorded far more shots in the box (12) than Eriksen (five) and Alli three), despite registering less pitch time ahead of the home clash against Bournemouth.

Rafa Benitez’s appointment should make the Tyne-Wear Derby an even more compelling clash, with both clubs’ top-flight status hanging in the balance. Jermain Defoe (FantasyBet 5m) picked up an eleventh goal of the term to secure a valuable point for the Black Cats at Southampton – the veteran forward has scored five of Sunderland’s last seven away goals and appears the most likely to dent Newcastle’s hopes. Wahbi Khazri (FantasyBet 6m) also continues to impress – a total of 39 crosses, 14 chances created and 11 attempts on goal over six appearances suggests further points are incoming if he can shrug off a knock.

We now turn to a pair of assets from a West Brom attack that has been surprisingly prolific of late. Midfielder Craig Gardner (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) has scored twice and served up an assist over the last three, while forward Salomon Rondon (FantasyBet 6.5m, Draftkings $4,200) has recorded four goals and an assist in five starts for the Baggies. Both could prove good value with opponents Norwich yet to keep a shut-out in 15 away ties.

Diego Costa’s two-match suspension brings Bertrand Traore (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $3,300) into our thinking once again. The youngster was on the bench for the weekend defeat to Everton but having scored four goals and picked up an assist over five outings in the league and FA Cup for the Blues, he could be poised to lead the line as West Ham visit Stamford Bridge.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    How's this looking for GW34 15 player Bench Boost team guy's ?

    Gomez, Elliot
    Ottamendi, Coleman, Bellerin, Moreno, Rojo
    Ozil, Payet, Firmino, Yaya, Can
    Kun, Lukaku, Rondon

Injuries permitting i'd be able to field a full 11 in GW35 and 11 DGW'ers in GW37, without taking hits.

    GW37 team

    Gomez
    Coleman, Moreno, Cresswell, Azpi
    Payet, Firmino, Barkley, Can
    Lukaku, Iggy

    Elliot Bellerin, Ozil, Kun

Looks a good plan, but would you really want to play Can over Kun? Even though he has the 2 games, can't see him outscoring Kun - home to Arsenal could be a field day

    @Mr. Pink..Your current team

    Hart** Hennessey
    Toby Simpson Bellerin** VVD Azpi
    Siggy Mahrez YYT** Alli Ozil**
    Aguero** Kane Vardy

Toby downgrade to Rojo. Azpi -> Cheapie. Siggy -> Sanchez. Mahrez -> Antonio. Vardy -> Martial.

Hold Kane/Vardy. Get Mahrez back in 35.

Would leave me with Cheapie, Sanchez, Antonio, Kane vs Kos, Payet, Firmino, Lukaku in my current plan.

      Thanks for the input though.

Any thoughts on this WC-team for GW33?

    Cech - Robles
    Bellerín - Clyne - Otamendi - Rojo - Janmaat
    Firmino - Payet - Antonio - Milner - Özil
    Agüero - Lukaku - Martial

    ITB: 0.8m

Would have 5 outfield-players not playing in GW35, but would also have two FTs. Anything you would consider doing differently? The only problem I see is how I am going to change my outfield players in GW35 as it is only Sunderland, Chelsea and Liverpool playing that have a DGW in GW37 (and I would already have three players from Liverpool). Who should I then replace in GW35 for Chelsea-/Sunderland-players with the funds I have available?

That's a great team. I might be looking at a bit of Alexis myself. I don't really know if City are worth getting defensively if not for Kompany's presence. But that's a pretty nice team.

I have been tinkering with it so much now that I am starting to feel like Ranieri...

Probably have some more work to do, but yeah both Sánchez and KdB could be real differentials in DGW34. I am not sure I have the funds for them though. Also keen on either two defenders from Arsenal or United considering their fixtures.

Agree on City defenders not being the best without Kompany, but hopefully he is back around GW34. It is hard to combine a good team in GW34 and GW35, and at the same time having GW37 in mind.

Take Rojo out. CBJ and Young are back.

Front 8 look great. Defence is open to a lot of options, that's probably the key area to get right

      1. Hobolicious
        • 10 Years

Hmm, I really want a United-defender for those two fixtures. Who else than DDG and Smalling would likely play both games?

          9 years, 8 months ago

Unfortunately, only those 2 (and Blind - but he's a mid in FPL)

I'd look at Smalling over Otamendi and Dawson in for Rojo

            9 years, 8 months ago

What about Cech --> Hart, Otamendi --> Rojo and Rojo --> Monreal leaving me with:

            Hart - Robles
            Bellerín - Monreal - Smalling - Clyne - Janmaat(/Dawson)

I wouldn't be happy with Monreal when Kosc is only 0.3 more. Also, don;t think City defence is that important.

Robles/Elliot as your keeper combo and your're laughing with plenty cash for your defence.

                9 years, 8 months ago

That would leave me with Elliot versus my two Liverpool attackers in GW35, but I do see your point. I will have to think about it.

Yeah, I also have that same issue. Don't forget about save point potential!

Sometimes just have to live with knowing you can't get that perfect week due to attack v defence in your team!

Really makes life easier for you, and lets future cash be used for important transfers outfield! Don't want it wasted in Hart when GW37 comes around

    a) Daniels > Dawson
    b) Ozil/Alli > Firminio

    e) Vardy > Lukaku

I don't think that the people actually realize that bench boost actually is about:
    5th mid
    4th and 5th defenders
    2nd keeper

If you put it in this perspective it's not that attractive ..

More and more inclined to play TC in GW 34 and BB in GW 37

The fixtures in 34 are better for defenders. Hence if you're getting 3 extra defensive players and only one extra mid, 34 looks better to me

Yep double Arsenal, Man U, WBA def with attacking threat - Dawson, City def and that could be lots of points.

Plus in dgwks defenders and goalies from poor teams often score well - especially those with attacking threat and in goalies case lots of saves to make. Even Elliot could do well in DGWK 34.

          • 11 Years

Yeah Elliot actually looks so good for it. Even the City game could bring a haul.

Not sure on double Arsenal, I'd prefer double Liverpool tbh, check out last 6 stats. Skrtel back could be huge

What about this team for WC in 33 in view of DGW 34. The team will have 7 players for DGW 37 and more importantly 9 players for Blank 35.

    DDG, Elliot
    Bellerin, Ogbonna, McAuley, Sakho, Rojo
    Sanchez, Ozil, Firmino, Antonio, Mahrez
    Lukaku, Kun, Martial

Rojo is risky but United has injury problems. Would rather have him than a Watford defender who probably won't keep a CS. Sakho is nailed imo even if Skrtel is back playing.

Please help!! Thanks a lot guys.

Toby - Simpson - Williams (Kompany*) (Cook)
Sanchez - Mahrez - Alli - Payet (Arnie)
    Kun - Vardy - Kane(C)

    2ft - 0.9ITB

Where to use one ft? And start Butland or Elliot?

Rumour that United going 3 at the back today. Might just have to go Smalling on the WC to play it safe.

Oh, i kinda like that they are trying the all out tactic. Kinda needed.

Don't know if it means they're going all out. Effectively 5 defenders to not concede.

I do hope they play with 3 at the back with two more attacking minded players. They are chasing.

3 at the back for United is a good thing for FPL really. Pretty much makes Rojo a starter

Should I bring in Siggy or Lukaku this week (for Lingard/Vardy). I'm chasing a lead, my rival has Siggy but not Lukaku.

    1. Eriksen > Siggy and bench Arnie

    2. Play Eriksen or Arnie and save FT

Silly question but it's impossible to have 2 ft the week after you play ur wildcard right?

      Yea.they don't rollover.

Yup. If you WC for GW33 you can only have 1 FT for gw 34

cool cheers, so ideally when you wildcard for 33, you should plan to also field 11 for 35 so u can roll a transfer?

Nah, basically you will WC for Gw 33 , so you would save a FT GOING INTO the DGW and have 2ft for gw 35.

            lol sorry yeah, that's what i mean't.

WC in 33 to get 15 DGW for 34, and then save ft and have 2 in 35 to sort the blanks?

Yea, exactly. Bar any injuries. I am pretty sure i will be keeping a few SGW players for those games, dont see the value of 15 DGW that include the "perfect " strategy that people say. I will go for 12 DGW players i think and 3 SGW ones or along those lines.

Yeah that makes sense, will have to think about doing that too. Atleast for now we can just punt, although not too recklessly by selling high valued players we wanna buy for 33-37

I might as well do that, but if Christina is reading i am going with Afobe up front for next two and Boruc in goal.

But, i think thats the best value and then you can slowly offload players that you dont want for last three, like Toby or whatever.

GW34...if you were to double on ONE defence -

Would it be United or Arsenal?

      United no doubt

Both are at home to Crystal Palace so cancel that game out, that leaves:

      Man Utd v Aston Villa
      Arsenal v West Brom

Considering United have one of the best home defences this season, and West Brom have been attacking lately, it has to be United for me
