When you conjure up a list of goalscoring midfield options in the current Everton set-up, Jack Rodwell hardly springs to mind. Tim Cahill, Leon Osman, even on-loan Royston Drenthe has staked a claim for Fantasy consideration ahead of the precocious youngster. Goals have hardly been synonymous with his name- prior to this season, the twenty-year old had four campaigns under his belt for David Moyes’ side and found the net just twice in seventy-one league games.

The departure of Mikel Arteta on the final day of the August transfer window, however, while depriving the Toffees of a top-class playmaker, could well be the making of Rodwell. That’s according to Moyes himself, who feels the youngster has stepped up in responsibility in light of the Spaniard’s departure:

I think Jack’s feeling as if he might have to be one of the main men since Mikel left. Before, he was always just ‘the boy’. He has to take on that mantle and he’s just beginning to look as though he might be able to carry it. He’s got the ability to score with both feet and he’s a good striker of the ball. I think he’s beginning to believe a wee bit more. He’s beginning to understand a bit more about what is expected, as well. So, all round, there are good signs for Jack.

As the season unfolds, Rodwell is beginning to back up Moyes’ faith and his performances have hinted at attacking potential. Settling in alongside Marouane Fellaini in the heart of the Toffees midfield, he has been afforded a license to push on and has subsequently doubled his career goals for Everton in the past three gameweeks, with goals away to Fulham and Newcastle. Factor in an assist and 4 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points and he’s returned 22 points, an average of 7.3 ppg between gameweeks 9 and 11.

We break down his performances over the past four gameweeks and using our own ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, analyse his overall improvement.

I'd be concerned about whether or not Dzeko will be rested after playing 180 minutes for Bosnia and with the prospects of playing Napoli on Tuesday. I had thought of trading out Aguero for him but that possibility has me a bit spooked.

So perhaps go Rooney and Drenthe (who seems to be a hot bandwagon choice here at the moment).

Going into this new season of FPL I was thinking using my wildcard towrards the end...somewhere around the last 5 GWs. Now I have a problem as I need to get rid of about 7 players: Given, Bos, De Laet, Metrov, Suarez. Maybe even Sturridge. Do you think I should use my WC now or just do the transfers that I really need? Some help would be apreciated, thanks!

depends how badly your team does and yuour position in your league. if u are far from the top wild card if not hang in there with 2 transfers. i would leave suarez and sturridge so thats only 4 players to change!

I'm top of my league and have WC'd this GW. Like you I was just completely uninspired with my team. The risk of course is that it could backfire and I won't have this benefit towrds the end of the season, but evryone else in my league except 1 has used their WC already so I'm hoping it's a chance to pull away with a team that (on paper) looks fairly solid for the next month or so, we'll see anyway. Don't think your team is all that bad, but depends how much patience you have with the shiny golden WC button 😉

I've been planning the exact same thing as well. Keep the WC to use at the end when it can give you the most leverage (or when there are significant DGWs). Looking at your team, though, I wouldn't go as far as blowing it up. Perhaps take a 4 or 8 point hit and rectify what you think are the most crucial immediate problems? With VDV, Silva, Mata, VP, and a pretty good back line you've got most of what people want right now...

There are pros and cons each way you look at it.

I used my WC during the first international break last season and this...so far, i stand by this as a good time to use it unless you are fortunate to have dropped on the form players for that time.

One way to look at it is how many more points could you accrue by using it now as opposed to waiting. De laet, Bos and petov are your deadwood...an 8pt hit might be better if you can make the desired changes.

Alternatively, your rank shows a steady decline over the past 4GWs, therefore, maybe now is the time. Theres little value to be made using WC's after the first international break imo, the game is all about form now and maximising the value you have.

Am I supporting racism by having Suarez in my team? Or does Liverpool support racism if he plays? If he's found guilty that is. Not sure how I feel about supporting racism. Or Liverpool. Or Uruguay. Well I'll certainly never support Liverpool.

He hasn't been found guilty yet. If he is found guilty and receives a ban then Liverpool will have no option but to leave him out for the duration of the ban. After that he will be free to return, like Rooney was after his misdemeanours last season.
I don't believe that what Suarez apparently said was intended to be racist anyway. He comes from a different culture in which he claims that the term he used means "little black fella" and is used as a term of affection, and he also claims that Evra's United colleagues use the same term when talking to him and were surprised that he made such a fuss about it.
If what Suarez said was considered to be racist then it was a very mild form of racism compared with the sort of racism that led to the murder of Stephen Lawrence. And why is it considered worse than other forms of insult? (Such as Scotsmen insulting each other's religion or referring to the English as b***** Sassenachs and supporting anyone but England - or Gary Neville saying he hates Scousers - or non-Spurs supporters referring to the Spurs as 'Yids' - or players who accuse others of being queer or suggesting that their wives or girlfriends are whores or hoping that their children die of leukaemia - or even making false accusations against other players after failing to get them sent off). I'm not saying that racism isn't bad, but there are different degrees of racism, and many other things are equally bad.

Suarez obviously meant harm. He lived in Holland before moving to England almost a year ago, I'm sure he's adapted to the culture and realised words like that aren't acceptable. It's also about the context it was said in. If Suarez said that to a black man on the streets of Liverpool, how do you think it would go down? Would the man care it was acceptable in Spain? I think not.
No it wasn't a severe form of racism, but it's still racist. Saying it just once, twice or ten times doesn't make a difference. it's the intent to cause harm.

Not quite sure what to do with this mess. Don't want to WC and pondering the possibility of taking up to an 8 point hit to rectify some of the biggest problems (although you'll see that there are more problems than 8 points can even fix):

    Vorm Schwarzer
    STaylor Gabbidon Warnock Richards Woodgate
    Bannan Mata VDV Ramsey Moses
    Sturridge RVP Aguero

.1 in the bank and 1 FT

Like I said, too many problems. Any reasonable fixes that will only cost me 8 points? Thanks in advance.

I went Lamps last gameweek and had a few nervous moments as Arsenal started to rack up goals but in the end they both got the same points, Im trying to make up some ground on guys in my league and they will both give it to RVP, should i go the same or try the differential. Vorm (Given)
    Lescott Wilkinson Evans (Gabbidon Simpson)
    Silva Ramsey Moses Sess (Sinclair)
    Rooney RVP(c) Suarez bank:1.8; 2 freebies

Did Ramsey feature in any internationals last week? Do we reckon that he's save to start?

    A. Ramsey>Bale
    or
    B. Evans>BAE (do we reckon that Evans will get a start in the next couple of weeks)
    or
    C. Downgrade Given to Krul (I play Vorm the next 3 weeks anyway)

I have no TOT cover and originally wanted to get VdV in this week. Given that he's not sure to start I prefer to keep Suarez instead...

not worth wasting a transfer on Krul if you're gonna play Vorm anyway, just wait until wk 16 and bring him in then, Evans to Jones for one option, gives you United defensive coverage with a guy more likely to play. Then keep your other free for next week.
