Harry Kane plays a part in all three of Tottenham’s goals in a home stroll against Bournemouth. Marcus Rashford earns United a derby win at the Etihad, Sadio Mane climbs off the bench to fire Southampton to victory against Liverpool, whilst Jermain Defoe and Aleksandar Mitrovic grab a goal apiece as the Tyne-Wear derby ends all square.

Kane runs riot against the Cherries

Tottenham Hotspur kept the pressure on league leaders Leicester City with a professional 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

Harry Kane maintained his sublime form with a brace and an assist, bringing his tally to five goals across the previous three Gameweeks. A tough pair of fixtures (liv, MUN) now awaits the Lilywhites, yet Kane will doubtless remain a prime captaincy candidate, considering that he’s flourished against the more illustrious sides this term. Moreover, the fact he’s chalked up seven double-figure hauls may well deter many pre-Gameweek 34 wildcarders from shipping out the league’s top scorer.

Dele Alli kept his points ticking over with his fourth assist in three starts, while Christian Eriksen proved a tasty differential with his second goal in six outings. On that note, no midfielder mustered more shots on target (10) than Eriksen in their previous six appearances, underlining the Denmark international’s potency in the final third.

Owing to his second assist in four starts, Kyle Walker was the pick of the Spurs defenders as they registered their second straight clean sheet. In light of the fact that the north Londoners are now fighting on one front, it’s likely that Mauricio Pochettino will stick with their first-choice full-backs, ensuring that Walker and Danny Rose are less prone to rotation.

Bournemouth form falters

The Cherries succumbed to their first defeat in five match-ups after failing to match Spurs’ intensity at White Hart Lane.

The south-coast club were comprehensively outclassed in the capital and barely posed a threat while in possession, managing a paltry two attempts and zero shots on target. Although Bournemouth’s lacklustre display can certainly be written off as an aberration rather than a trend, their perilous run-in – which includes meetings with Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Man United – diminishes their Fantasy prospects.

Mitrovic earns Magpies a draw

Newcastle United salvaged a point in the Tyne-Wear derby but remain rooted in the bottom three after extending their winless streak to five matches.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his second goal in six starts to bring the hosts level seven minutes from time. The Serbian forward didn’t last the distance, however, as he was chaperoned off the pitch because of a head injury.

Georginio Wijnaldum scooped the assist and three bonus points, reaffirming his preference for home outings – all of the Dutchman’s nine goals and all but two of his five assists have arrived at St James’ Park.

Although Wijnaldum harbours decent differential potential ahead of the Magpies’ double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI), prospective investors will be concerned that Rafa Benitez deployed him alongside Jonjo Shelvey in the double pivot against Sunderland, forcing him to launch his penetrative runs from a deeper-lying position.

Jack Colback toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after receiving his tenth yellow of the season. Consequently, the former Black Cats midfielder will sit out Newcastle’s next two league ties (nor, sou), leaving the Toon desperately short at left-back. The Magpies have further worries in defence after Daryl Janmaat withdrew from Holland duties with a knee injury sustained against Sunderland.

Defoe strikes again

Sunderland’s inability to close out a match was once again brought to the fore as they conceded for the 16th successive outing.

Reinstated in the wake of his goalscoring cameo against Southampton, Jermain Defoe (5.1) fired the visitors into the lead just before the break with his twelfth strike of the season. With back-to-back home clashes (WBA, LEI) and a trip to Norwich next on the Black Cats’ schedule, there’s certainly scope for the pint-sized poacher to deliver returns on a shoestring budget.

On the injury front, Younes Kaboul was withdrawn at the 73-minute mark due to a calf complaint, rendering him a doubt for West Bromwich Albion’s visit.

Mane double wins it for Saints

Southampton rallied from two goals down to secure a stunning 3-2 home victory over Liverpool.

Despite not entering the fray until the second period, Sadio Mane had an eventful afternoon: the Senegal international missed from the penalty spot shortly after the break, before making amends with a well-taken brace. Looking beyond Southampton’s trip to Leicester next Gameweek, their match-ups against a trio of leaky defences (NEW, eve, avl) could re-establish Mane (7.3) in the mid-priced bracket.

Handed another start up front in a 4-2-3-1 set-up, Graziano Pelle netted his third goal (Shane Long assist) in two outings and turned provider for both of Mane’s strikes. The Italian frontman’s resurgence is laudable, yet the form of Harry Kane and the clamour for forwards with upcoming double Gameweeks (Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero, etc.) limits his appeal on the Fantasy market.

Klopp’s men capitulate

Liverpool’s three-match winning spell came to an end in a farcical fashion at St Mary’s Stadium.

In the absence of Roberto Firmino – whose hamstring problem is set to be assessed over the international break – Jurgen Klopp fielded Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as the strike pairing in a 4-4-2 set-up. The latter teed up the former for the Reds’ second goal, meaning that Sturridge has scored in his last two league outings. Nonetheless, his pockmarked injury record and rotation risk during the Reds’ double Gameweek 34 (bou, eve) persist as salient shortcomings.

Philippe Coutinho found the back of the net for the third time in five starts across all competitions, while Adam Lallana’s assist marked the fourth time in six appearances that he’s produced attacking returns (three goals and a trio of assists). Given the uncertainty surrounding the length of Firmino’s layoff, the form of the above-mentioned duo will be under greater scrutiny ahead of their first of two doubles.

Having entered the referee’s notebook in the first half, Dejan Lovren was hooked during the interval, with Martin Skrtel earning his first pitch time since 20 December. The Slovakian centre-back committed the foul that led to Saints’ penalty and generally endured a torrid 45 minutes, casting doubt over his capacity to regain a regular starting berth.

Rashford the United hero

Manchester United rebounded from their Europa League exit with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad.

Marcus Rashford was the hero of the piece, bagging his third goal (Juan Mata assist) in four league starts. Pitched at 4.5, the 18-year-old forward could be a handy facilitator for Man United’s double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY). However, with Wayne Rooney closing in on a return to action after the internationals, Rashford’s minutes still look at risk.

The Red Devils’ second clean sheet in three outings shines a spotlight on a defence that charts top for shut-outs (14) this term. Chris Smalling (6.5) and David De Gea act as safe routes into their rearguard, while Marcos Rojo (5.0) – who’s carded four consecutive starts – is gaining traction as a viable selection.

City stutter again

Man City’s title hopes are in tatters following their fourth defeat in six outings.

Despite mustering five attempts and four shots on target, Sergio Aguero produced his fourth blank in five appearances. Although his 34% ownership will fancy the Argentine’s chances of getting back on track at Bournemouth after the international break, it’s worth noting that the Sky Blues – who chart joint-fourth-bottom for away goals (13) – face three road trips in their next quartet of match-ups (bou, WBA, che, new).

Raheem Sterling (groin) and Joe Hart (calf) suffered injuries either side of the half and are likely to be ruled out for “three to four weeks”, according to Manuel Pellegrini. Allied with Vincent Kompany’s fresh setback, Hart’s likely absence decreases our faith in a defence that recorded successive clean sheets prior to the Manchester derby.

Kun is still interesting for me, but the issue is with Silva and YYT, which is not feeding him in the right position. Both were crap, until Kun was forced to come get the ball from outside the box.

Hugely tempted by a GW32 wildcard now!

    + Locks in value
+ Can keep on top of price rises
    + Team needs a revamp I think
    + Can still plan for 34: roll GW33, 1 ft for 34, 2fts for 35
+ Can account for injuries in internationals
+ Can keep Daniels for the Villa fixture

    - Lose Ivanovic / Chelsea cover for Villa - no need for any of these players in a wildcard team
    - Does it smash me up for the next round of fixtures? Only players I'm reticent to get rid of are Vardy and Fuchs. Keeping Mahrez and Kane in addition to 13 DGWers.
    - Any big injuries between 32-33 means I'm in trouble
    - As above, flexibility lost.

Beginning to think about it more and more, especially after reading Trigger's blog and also seeing Ryan's community post.

What do you all think? Why hold for 33?

wait and see what shape your team is in after internationals, but you make some good points. You could double up on Chelsea this week and WC in 33 which might be more profitable

For sure, will wait for after internationals. It's just losing Ivanovic I'd be a bit annoyed about - I'd have him, and I'd probably also want to hold on to Daniels for GW33, too.

I've just done a prototype team and I'm already pushing 0bank (@0.4 at the moment) with the players I'd want:

        DDG / Robles
        Bellerin Ake Rojo Daniels PvA
        Coutinho Mahrez Ozil Payet Fletcher
        Lukaku Kun Kane

I'm tempted by this also, if you use the WC now and any players get injured you can still change them because the WC is active. Also you can try to predict who will rise by 0.2m by the next gameweek then sell them for a profit if it isn't a player you want

I doubt we'll see much double rising because of the fact that it's international breaks - the key points of price sensitivity are:

        Friday night pre GW
        Saturday morning pre GW
Saturday night post first set of fixtures (rage transfers; points chasers (or both!))
Sunday evening post second set of fixtures (as above, especially if GW is over)
Monday evening, post MNF (as Sunday evening)
        Big injury

So I don't see much volatility in the transfer market until the start of the next GW

Definitely considering it more and more now

          Kane

Yeah I know, I did mention "Big injury" as a negative factor. Very random though what to expect in that regard.

That plus the upcoming cup / euro fixtures for some of the dgw protagonists (Liverpool, City, United, West Ham plus CPL and Eve fixture to be rescheduled) are the two things which remain holding me back from activation...

You're right in all these points, except there won't be that many price rises, like in every intl. week. Basically, I will be going with the crowd for WC in 33, simply because there are a lot of uncertainties now, a couple of injuries in 32 and your WC team is fecked.

Yeah maybe you're the voice of reason here - just feeling like my team needs a spruce up (especially my defence) and I'm getting close to the limit of being able to afford what I want for my DGW team

Will keep an eye on it - I already said above that I think the key points of market volatility are over for the moment, so barring any big injuries to my current team I am still 65% at WC33, 35% WC32

I think there will be more price rises than the other international breaks due to those wildcarding in gw36 maximising their dgw players for gw34. Players such as firmino (if injury ok), payet, bellerin, de gea, rashford, lukaku will all be in demand imo.
By w/c in gw32 you also have another transfer to replace any injured players.

Slight misunderstanding between us. My post says "those w/c in gw36" will be transfering high demand players for gw34. They are not under a wildcard they will be just normal transfers so may cause price rises. Appreciate the false positives point will proceed with a little caution.

            Good luck with your planning.

The other big negative for me, and the main reason I won't WC this week, is that it telegraphs my planning to my ML rivals.

Some may not see the DGW coming. Some may have not contemplated the wholesale changes we'll make. Some may not have realised if they WC into GW34 they won't be able to use a chip.

WCing in GW32 allows them to follow suit in GW33 and potentially kill some of my advantage.

        Ah yes I see!
This doesn't quite apply to me because my ML leader already played his WC for no reason. So it doesn't matter to me.

My case is slightly different as I'm happy for them to follow as I'm protecting leads in all 3 of my ML's. 60 points in one 100 in another and over 200 in the other. Also all 3 of the second placed players have used most of their chips. My main priority is Overall rank though I do appreciate the point you make that "rivals ignorance " of the dgw situation in both 34 and 37 could play into your hands.

        Good luck with your planning.

I've seen people on here talking about Sanchez looking better and better recently, possibly on the verge of one of his explosions. The stats say otherwise (zero shots on goal against Everton, for example).

I'm well aware that stats don't tell the whole story but they're rarely at total odds with the real world eye test. What are people seeing that the stats aren't showing?

Well, exactly, that's what I reckoned. But the people saying these things are generally good players who don't fall into that kind of trap. Smurf, for example.

Well his form HAS improved a little in terms of returns.. but he's still nowhere near worth the premium you have to pay for him at the moment. no way he's worth more than Kane for example. Sanchez hasn't been accurate this season.

It's a punt, nothing more in it, could be a good punt as he's a good player and you'd have to assume Arsenal will secure 3rd spot through SOMEone.. but I won't be taking the punt as he's too expensive and I've seen him in much too deep/wide positions recently.

KdB tempts me more. Also a factor is I prefer Ozil as "Arsenal-cover" over Yaya "City-cover".

I'm not a big stats fan but he has had some kind of attacking returns the last few weeks and he just looked more like his old self, taking people on, taking up dangerous positions, in and around all their best play. He only needs 1 or 2 chances to score really well.

I kind of wish I was more set for the DGW in 34 without needing a wildcard. I haven't seen many teams I like so far.

    Anyone in a similar position?

I'm more concerned that my TC chip will flop horribly in whatever gameweek I decide to use it in (V. Likely GW37) As I was tempted by using it on Aguero and Kane v Villa and feel I've missed my best chances with it

Absolutely. There's a lot of filler, not much killer.

Imo there's not sufficient quality to dismantle your team, bearing in mind the consequences for 33 and 35.

I'll be targeting 37, but fair play to people if it works for them. I'll be much happier putting in average players and playing the numbers then, when I know they won't be stinking the place out for long.

I only own Silva, Aguero, Hennessey and Sissoko for the double so I don't have much choice. I even have the wrong Newcastle mid probably 🙂

Yeah, probably. Couldn't believe the threat he provided from LB-man that guy is lungs on legs! I'm hoping Rafa will have twigged that Wij needs to be released and have licence by 34.

Honestly, I'm probably just going with 8. I will back the likes of Mahrez, Fuchs, and Kane with no worries at all.

My concern with DGW37 is that again, there isn't much obvious quality to shoot for, plus you have the added concern of late season rotation etc...

I don't put much stock in late season rotation. It's only ever a factor with teams that have nothing to play for and I wouldn't be interested in their players.

But looking at the fixtures, who does that realistically leave you with wanting in your team for DGW 37?

It looks like a real damp squib to me.

I really like some of the options. Neither is a perfect world, but I'm so much happier to dismantle my team at that point.

With WHM, MUN, EVE blanks in 35 you can't really commit to them can you?

I'm confident I will have pretty much every good option and no rubbish in my team.

I'm hanging on to my wild card for GW36 if I possibly can for the exact reason you highlight, but crossing fingers for no international injuries as I think even 1 DGW injury to my team could see me practically forced to WC. But not loving the fixtures on offer in 34 and think Sanchez could make a great TC that week. And TC could be worth a lot of points if we can get it right/get lucky.

Hey Andy - yeah I just made the point above about GW32 wildcarding and the kind of team you'll create if you do 33

I'm at here atm with my piffling sale value (Daniels in assuming I do a GW32 and want to keep him for 33 vs. Villa):
      DDG / Robles
      Bellerin Ake Rojo Daniels PvA
      Coutinho Mahrez Ozil Payet Fletcher
      Lukaku Kun Kane
      0.4itb - Daniels out for a DGWer in 34 (e.g. Janmaat)

Just don't like it at all! Seems so weak!

If I WC in 33 for DGW 34 then I will be seriously considering going without Aguero. It is the only way I can put together a squad anywhere near as strong as I would want it to be for the BB chip.

I reckon Welbeck is close to being nailed at the moment, so I would gamble on him. Then maybe Martial and keep Kane?

I see the issue though, pickings are slim. I don't think either DGW is a blockbuster to be honest, it is difficult to know for sure how to go about them.

    DDG (Elliott)
    Bellerin Koscielny Rojo (Alderweireld Simpson)
    Coutinho Payet Sanchez Mahrez Alli

Mahrez worth holding or should I get Barkley? Alli worth holding or should I get Lingard?

I find it impossible to find a WC team that doesn't result in a 541 in GW35

    Most will want

    Payet
    Lukaku

All the cheap enablers like Lanzini and Lingard also have a blank and can't be traded out for anyone useful from Chelsea/Sunderland because they are too cheap.

But if you Bench Boost in 34, you can revert from Lanzini to a cheap fodder mid like Josh King for GW35 and bench him for the final three weeks when you will have to bench an attacker anyways. At least that's my plan.

Ideally you want to spend every transfer on DGWers for 37. Thus resulting in just Chelsea and Sunderland options for GW35

Yeah, but as I said, having eight attackers with DGW in GW37 won't help you when you have to bench one anyways.

If you have three Liverpool players and a full bench of DGWers (say Smalling, Payet and Lukaku along with a DGW GK) then you're already at seven. If you have 2FT for GW35 then you'll get to 10+Mahrez for example.

I'd only have 7DGWers in GW35 so I'd need all 4 transfers just to get to 11. I don't think I'd end up with 8DGW attackers. Although in saying that I do have an AOA chip so if I TC Lukaku in GW36 (if he has a DGW) then 8DGW attackers could be a real goer in GW37

I think trying to maximise a full compliment of DGWers and GW35 players can still be done effectively if you can get the right players. Almost impossible to work out but I think it can be done provided there is a willingness to take risks on players not entirely nailed on.

Think it's unfeasible to remove him, Ryan. Such a productive fpl asset and will keep scoring til the end.

Massive exposure to non wcers is the clincher for me.

Started my wildcard team last night (always intended gw32 w/c to take advantage of kind fixtures for several dgw34 teams in gw32). Intend to build it up slowly over the international break and hopefully take advantages of early price rises for "in demand" dgw players. Already brought in Bellerin and Payet (both rose in price last night and are likely for at least another couple of rises in the break).

I will then hit the wildcard button and negate my "points cost of transfers" after the international break.
This also gives me an additional transfer between gw32 and gw34 to account for any injuries.
I am looking at a wildcard team of 13 dgwers"and BB" and keeping mahrez and kane and probably gambling on no aguero due to both fixtures being away.

Is their any obvious fault to this plan, that I have overlooked, that anyone out there in the community can make me aware of.

Thanks in anticipation of any replies.

WC next week, so 2FTs to use up to improve defence for this week only. Who should I get in for Kompany + Williams for this week only?

    Currently thinking Bellerin & PVA

PVA seems a decent punt for a week, whilst Bellerin is raking in the points at the minute.

Any more news on his injury? I have Hennessey as my "back-up". If there is a decent chance that Hart will return in time for the DGW, I might just hold on to him. If not, I guess I'd have to go Mignolet or Elliot, depending on my budget.

think it will just be a case of wait and see, at the end of the int. break if Pellegrini says he's fit then can save a precious FT, i do think Pelle will give Willy some games tbh anyway. giggity

Agree. FTs are invaluable if you're trying to hold on to your WC for GW36. Was going for 10 DGW players for -4. I guess I could always accept 9. I do feel that I am one more injury away from a WC in GW33 though...

How about this team for the DGWs.
WC already used. So gotta make preparations starting this week.

    DeGea / Elliot
    Cresswell Moreno Bellerin Koscielny Clyne
    Özil Payet Antonio Lennon Coutinho
    Rashford Aguero Lukaku

    Please help.

De Gea, Cresswell, Payet, Antonio, Lennon, Rashford and Lukaku all don't have a game in wk35 (unless the game against palace is rescheduled to then). So you'd be leaving yourself short there.

How close are you to getting this team together? If Everton DO play in gwk 35, then you're set. I'd suggest that you start bringing in Liverpool players now, and wait and see what happens with Everton.

I already have Elliot Cresswell Bellerin Koscielny Clyne Özil Antonio Lukaku Aguero.
            This week's transfers done.
So i have 2 more weeks to get the team ready. Will have to take hits.

I dont have DeGea Moreno Payet Lennon Coutinho Rashford

How do I go about it then?

Top goalscoring forwards in the last 4 gameweeks:

    Kane - 5
    Pelle - 3
Aguero, Defoe, Lukaku, Rondon, Wickham - 2

We're going to have to keep him for the double gameweek aren't we? He's scoring twice as many goals as any other forward...

          Me neither

I'm going to reach for the familiar comfort blanket of Lukaku -Kun - Kane I think for the rest of the season. Can't see past that front 3, barring injuries, as cumulatively scoring the most coming up (Lukaku has 2xdgws) whilst covering any exposure (Kane and Aguero highly owned)

Currently on Kun - Lukaku - Kane but not 100% about it..

              Also considering:
              Welbeck (rotation, position),
              Sturridge (rotation, injury),
Vardy (fixtures, explosiveness, want 2 LEI defenders),
              Martial (position, explosiveness)

              Not many options though.. 😐

Defoe / Sakho could be decent punts too but not going down the cheap route as I'd be locked into it.

Really? I'm not that enamoured with Vardy to be honest. The fixtures are decent but his form isn't. If I were to keep a Leicester player it'd be Mahrez, no doubt.

    Lloris // HENNESSEY
BELLERIN // Van Dijk // Fuchs // Simpson // Cameron
    OZIL // TOWNSEND // Willian // Siggy // Mahrez
    AGUERO // LUKAKU // Kane

    Plan:

GW32: Kane + Cameron --> Welbeck or Martial + Reid or United Defender(-4)

    GW33: Willian + Siggy --> Coutinho + Payet (-4)

    Giving Me:

    HENNESSEY
BELLERIN // DGW DEFENDER // Van Dijk
    OZIL // TOWNSEND // COUTINHO // PAYET
    AGUERO // LUKAKU // WELBECK
    Bench: Lloris, Mahrez, Fuchs, Simpson
