Harry Kane plays a part in all three of Tottenham’s goals in a home stroll against Bournemouth. Marcus Rashford earns United a derby win at the Etihad, Sadio Mane climbs off the bench to fire Southampton to victory against Liverpool, whilst Jermain Defoe and Aleksandar Mitrovic grab a goal apiece as the Tyne-Wear derby ends all square.

Kane runs riot against the Cherries

Tottenham Hotspur kept the pressure on league leaders Leicester City with a professional 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

Harry Kane maintained his sublime form with a brace and an assist, bringing his tally to five goals across the previous three Gameweeks. A tough pair of fixtures (liv, MUN) now awaits the Lilywhites, yet Kane will doubtless remain a prime captaincy candidate, considering that he’s flourished against the more illustrious sides this term. Moreover, the fact he’s chalked up seven double-figure hauls may well deter many pre-Gameweek 34 wildcarders from shipping out the league’s top scorer.

Dele Alli kept his points ticking over with his fourth assist in three starts, while Christian Eriksen proved a tasty differential with his second goal in six outings. On that note, no midfielder mustered more shots on target (10) than Eriksen in their previous six appearances, underlining the Denmark international’s potency in the final third.

Owing to his second assist in four starts, Kyle Walker was the pick of the Spurs defenders as they registered their second straight clean sheet. In light of the fact that the north Londoners are now fighting on one front, it’s likely that Mauricio Pochettino will stick with their first-choice full-backs, ensuring that Walker and Danny Rose are less prone to rotation.

Bournemouth form falters

The Cherries succumbed to their first defeat in five match-ups after failing to match Spurs’ intensity at White Hart Lane.

The south-coast club were comprehensively outclassed in the capital and barely posed a threat while in possession, managing a paltry two attempts and zero shots on target. Although Bournemouth’s lacklustre display can certainly be written off as an aberration rather than a trend, their perilous run-in – which includes meetings with Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Man United – diminishes their Fantasy prospects.

Mitrovic earns Magpies a draw

Newcastle United salvaged a point in the Tyne-Wear derby but remain rooted in the bottom three after extending their winless streak to five matches.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his second goal in six starts to bring the hosts level seven minutes from time. The Serbian forward didn’t last the distance, however, as he was chaperoned off the pitch because of a head injury.

Georginio Wijnaldum scooped the assist and three bonus points, reaffirming his preference for home outings – all of the Dutchman’s nine goals and all but two of his five assists have arrived at St James’ Park.

Although Wijnaldum harbours decent differential potential ahead of the Magpies’ double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI), prospective investors will be concerned that Rafa Benitez deployed him alongside Jonjo Shelvey in the double pivot against Sunderland, forcing him to launch his penetrative runs from a deeper-lying position.

Jack Colback toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after receiving his tenth yellow of the season. Consequently, the former Black Cats midfielder will sit out Newcastle’s next two league ties (nor, sou), leaving the Toon desperately short at left-back. The Magpies have further worries in defence after Daryl Janmaat withdrew from Holland duties with a knee injury sustained against Sunderland.

Defoe strikes again

Sunderland’s inability to close out a match was once again brought to the fore as they conceded for the 16th successive outing.

Reinstated in the wake of his goalscoring cameo against Southampton, Jermain Defoe (5.1) fired the visitors into the lead just before the break with his twelfth strike of the season. With back-to-back home clashes (WBA, LEI) and a trip to Norwich next on the Black Cats’ schedule, there’s certainly scope for the pint-sized poacher to deliver returns on a shoestring budget.

On the injury front, Younes Kaboul was withdrawn at the 73-minute mark due to a calf complaint, rendering him a doubt for West Bromwich Albion’s visit.

Mane double wins it for Saints

Southampton rallied from two goals down to secure a stunning 3-2 home victory over Liverpool.

Despite not entering the fray until the second period, Sadio Mane had an eventful afternoon: the Senegal international missed from the penalty spot shortly after the break, before making amends with a well-taken brace. Looking beyond Southampton’s trip to Leicester next Gameweek, their match-ups against a trio of leaky defences (NEW, eve, avl) could re-establish Mane (7.3) in the mid-priced bracket.

Handed another start up front in a 4-2-3-1 set-up, Graziano Pelle netted his third goal (Shane Long assist) in two outings and turned provider for both of Mane’s strikes. The Italian frontman’s resurgence is laudable, yet the form of Harry Kane and the clamour for forwards with upcoming double Gameweeks (Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero, etc.) limits his appeal on the Fantasy market.

Klopp’s men capitulate

Liverpool’s three-match winning spell came to an end in a farcical fashion at St Mary’s Stadium.

In the absence of Roberto Firmino – whose hamstring problem is set to be assessed over the international break – Jurgen Klopp fielded Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as the strike pairing in a 4-4-2 set-up. The latter teed up the former for the Reds’ second goal, meaning that Sturridge has scored in his last two league outings. Nonetheless, his pockmarked injury record and rotation risk during the Reds’ double Gameweek 34 (bou, eve) persist as salient shortcomings.

Philippe Coutinho found the back of the net for the third time in five starts across all competitions, while Adam Lallana’s assist marked the fourth time in six appearances that he’s produced attacking returns (three goals and a trio of assists). Given the uncertainty surrounding the length of Firmino’s layoff, the form of the above-mentioned duo will be under greater scrutiny ahead of their first of two doubles.

Having entered the referee’s notebook in the first half, Dejan Lovren was hooked during the interval, with Martin Skrtel earning his first pitch time since 20 December. The Slovakian centre-back committed the foul that led to Saints’ penalty and generally endured a torrid 45 minutes, casting doubt over his capacity to regain a regular starting berth.

Rashford the United hero

Manchester United rebounded from their Europa League exit with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad.

Marcus Rashford was the hero of the piece, bagging his third goal (Juan Mata assist) in four league starts. Pitched at 4.5, the 18-year-old forward could be a handy facilitator for Man United’s double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY). However, with Wayne Rooney closing in on a return to action after the internationals, Rashford’s minutes still look at risk.

The Red Devils’ second clean sheet in three outings shines a spotlight on a defence that charts top for shut-outs (14) this term. Chris Smalling (6.5) and David De Gea act as safe routes into their rearguard, while Marcos Rojo (5.0) – who’s carded four consecutive starts – is gaining traction as a viable selection.

City stutter again

Man City’s title hopes are in tatters following their fourth defeat in six outings.

Despite mustering five attempts and four shots on target, Sergio Aguero produced his fourth blank in five appearances. Although his 34% ownership will fancy the Argentine’s chances of getting back on track at Bournemouth after the international break, it’s worth noting that the Sky Blues – who chart joint-fourth-bottom for away goals (13) – face three road trips in their next quartet of match-ups (bou, WBA, che, new).

Raheem Sterling (groin) and Joe Hart (calf) suffered injuries either side of the half and are likely to be ruled out for “three to four weeks”, according to Manuel Pellegrini. Allied with Vincent Kompany’s fresh setback, Hart’s likely absence decreases our faith in a defence that recorded successive clean sheets prior to the Manchester derby.

What's the situation with Rooney? I've heard talk he was supposed to be back after the break but can't find anything on it. Is he no a potential massive spanner in the works if you fancy a Utd forward?

Yup - once fit he's straight back in. Rashford to miss out.

I think his season is done anyways. Would be safe to say even if he comes back that it will be Lingard who takes the axe and rashford stays up front.

Not convinced that will happen - Rashford to miss out.

It's not like LvG suddenly decided to give Rashford a run out - was out of necessity.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Rough with the Smooth - Gameweek 31

How was your gameweek? Lots of chuffed Kane captainers I imagine. What about Aguero captainers? Anyone own Fabregas? And what transfers paid off or failed for you?

Rough - decided on Friday night to double up on the Swansea defence and had to make a 50/50 call on who to bring in - Neil Taylor or Fernandez. Checked their respective histories and saw that Taylor had only missed one game all season whilst Fernandez had missed 5 so I went for Taylor on that basis. Taylor missed the game bringing Bertrand's 1 point off my bench while Fernandez pulled a 15 pointer. Those extra 14 points would have got me up to the magical 100 point gameweek.

Also benched Bellerin's haul (again!) and Alli's assist.

(By the way, I realise this reads as a massive whinge when I got 86 points but I don't care!)

Captaining Kane papered over the cracks 🙂

Always double-check that you have pressed Confirm, and that your starting eleven, subs, captain and vice-captain are still the same as you intended them to be.

Smooth - 88 points, 10th green in a row, up from 75k to 51k, 40 points clear in ML now.

      - Kane captainer... Thanks to a change 15 mins before the deadline, having been on Siggy all week.
      - Another great defensive transfer after being Kompany in for 9 last week, replaced him with Williams for 8
      - Great defensive tally: Fuchs 9, Williams 8, Toby 6, despite benching Bellerin
      - All but one ML rival did NOT captain Kane

Sunday was a UFPL rollercoaster. 8th in March going in, figured most above me would captain Kane so I needed a diff to claw back 16 points. Captained Defoe, then realised that nobody above me actually went for Kane, most stuck on Mahrez. Spent the next two hours begging Kane not to score again, as it would've meant the decision cost me. In the end I came joint 30th, 11 points off the lead. Kane (c) would've only gained 9 - the only way I could've won it would be that plus benching Aguero for Defoe. Oh well.

And in FPL I captained Aguero and I have no idea why. I might even bench him next week.

Rough - brought in Lukaku for Vardy and gave him the armband over Kane. The 2FT I had made me feel compelled to make a transfer especially with DGW34 coming up. I would have been 14 points better off but still a green arrow believe it or not!

Hart injury and late Watford goal killed my Wolly CS, but can't complain, Kane captain, 80pts and 300pts over 4 games in March. Don't think I've ever averaged 75pts per GW over a month.

Rough: I had 3 50/50 dilemmas before the deadline - whether to captain Kane or Siggy, whether to play Bellerin, and whether to bench Alli or Arnie. You can guess that I got the first two wrong and those cost me 33 points total. That would have given me a score over 110 points and a spot near the top 10k.
The smooth the rest of my guys picked it up and still managed a small green arrow, with my dullard transfer Ashley W banking me some points.

Rougher than waking up the next morning next to a woman from hull.

Smooth - didn't change any captain or defenders in the last minute (did Kane to Kun (C) last week), so had Kane (C) and Bellerin 12, Toby 6 and Simpson in defence.
Rough - ditched Vardy for Rondon instead of getting Siggy. Could have been worse though. 81 points this week and inside top 300k for the first time this season.

My worst GW of the season.

      Captained Aguero over Kane (-14)
      Benched Alli for Arnautovic (-3)
Took out Vardy for Lukaku (-3)

Cost me 20 points. I always knew this was going to be either a rough or smooth week. I banked on Bournemouth putting up a fight and it wasn't too be. Lost 20 points on my cash ML leader and now have an entire ITL break to dwell on my mistakes...

Rough: benched Bellerin, again. Went for Butland instead of Ruddy.

Switching between Ozil and Sanchez is still killing me, my ML rival closed the gap with Fuchs, Walker and Sanchez to just 14 poinsts. Bad double gameweeks and I could lose mini lague I'm leading almost entire season. Those 23 and 19 poinst benched in gws 29 and 31 respectively could cost me dearly.

Had two transfers, one was Arnautovic for Firmino, to catch the price rise, and we saw how that went out.

Smooth: 85 points, green arrow, 6522 rank overall, but it seems that in this game, things going bad, hurts a lot more than joy you have if things are going good.

Surely rough with the smooth is to show people who made bad/good decisions that led to an overall terrible/fantastic gameweek. Much more interesting than people who made some bad and some good decisions (pretty much everyone) leading to a decent gameweek. The same person with smooth and rough isn't as interesting

        Smooth:

Silva and Vardy > Sanchez Lukaku, small smooth but 1 net point profit and 2 high quality doublers in for 34 already (using WC in 36)

        Rough:

Benched Mahrez and Bellerin and captained Kun

        I only made two changes
        Vardy to Rondon(-4 points)
        Kane(c) to Siggy(c)(-11 points)

That could have put me just inside the top 50k

        Benched Bellerin for VVD (-11)
        Benched Alli for Silva (-4)
        Transferred Vardy to Lukaku (-4)

        Total score 63, could have been 93 - down 10k to 26k

Can everyone stop blubbering over benching Bellerin. Arsenal had just been taught a footballing lesson (again) by Barcelona and had 2 days to recover before making a trip to Goodison Park. Everton on the other hand, had just impressed in destroying Chelsea in the FA Cup thanks to the beastly Lukaku. If Bellerin wasn't the last sub on your bench, then I'd worry about you not knowing what you're doing.

Anyone stating Bellerin as a rough should just go and do one.

P.S. This rant has nothing to do with me changing my captain from Kane to Siggurdson. A move which I admit, I was trying to be too clever with.

I did Silva ---> Sanchez this GW just gone and it paid off. I would do that move.

Alternatively now could be a good time to move Eriksen for him, next 3 don't look easy, providing you can use the other FT to raise the funds to facilitate it.

      Hi all

What to do with these guys for GW33?

1ft, 2.5itb. Wildcarding after so would like a punt!

      Butland / fodder
Daniels Fuchs Ivan / Dann Saylor
Mahrez Payet (c) Siggy Eriksen / Shaqiri
      Kun Kane Vardy

Thinking I should remove one of Siggy, Eriksen and Shaqiri... what do you guys reckon?

I am unsure whether to bring in a Chelsea Midfielder or Forward. Should I play it safe and bring in Courtois (if you consider a Chelsea defence safe)? Going to wildcard in 33 anyway.

      Henny, Butland
      Bellerin, Huth, Williams, Dawson, Cresswell
      Alli, Ozil, Payet, Sigurdsson, Mahrez
      Aguero, Kane, Vardy

True, but I'd prefer Ruddy over Courtois personally.. Norwich have more fight in them.

Villa could always nick a goal, they haven't looked AS bad in the last 2 weeks offensively, albeit being crap defensively.

Replacements, i was gunna get lloris but ive already got 3 spurs players.

Thinking mignolet or forster. Leaning towards migs, hes got 2 DGW and hes playing in gw35. Saves hella cash too

No hit for a GK, unless you go for a DGW keeper, so you are effectively taking the hit on credit.

I am... Currently playing with the WC team and am looking something along these lines.

              Gomes / Elliot
              Reid / Monreal / Rojo / Huth / 3.1!!!!! (need to get 1mil somewhere)
              Sanchez/ Firmino (Coutinho?) / Ozil / Mahrez / Payet
              Agu / Studge / Kaku

I can ship Studge for Welbeck, lose Monreal for Smalling, ship Rojo to someone else and fill the last spot with a random defender...

Hmm... Mahrez as 5th mid? I think Sanchez is the problem in there but that's just me. You don't seem to have any enabler in your front 8.. I'll personally have one of Lanzini / Antonio / Alli.

Currently trying to decide between Kane / Studge myself.

Is there a slight chance Monreal will be rested for Gibbs in one of the DGW fixtures? He should start all the rest..

I really like Welbeck as an option but he might not be totally nailed up front, risky choice but I applaud anyone that goes for him.

Not sure why i would need an enabler when my TV is very high. I think it doesnt make sense for me to get one. Mahrez is the "Enabler" since i owned him from the start.

Monreal is nailed on i believe, dont think Gibbs will oust him, but who knows. I do think i need 1 defender from ARS. That means losing Wellbeck and keeping Kane.

Sanchez might be an issue, but i do believe he will pick up pace until GW 34 bar no injuries in the international stuff. Might be the best C option that GW as well.

But your TV isn't high enough if you can only afford a 3.1m defender 😛 I'd try squeeze Simpson/Martin in there for that 5th defender.

Maybe Payet -> Antonio / Lanzini and upgrade Monreal (will start nearly every game but the DGW is the important one and he's a slight risk for that I'd say, Koscielny more goal threat too).. But Payet was one of the first names on my WC sheet..

Can I tempt you with a KdB instead of a Sanchez?

You absolutely can, if he is FIT for the DGW. It really depends on Sanchez as well. Well i kinda went overboard with players. Could reduce somewhere, like Sanchez. I think 3x Ars is the way to go and 2x LIV at best. Keeping 3 SGW i believe as well.

                        Bellerin - Koscielny - Fuchs - Simspon - Reid

The deliberation over GW 33 or 36 WC is agonising.

I was leaning towards 36 personally as I'm not liking the mess after the earlier option, but I'm worried about the rotation etc.. so late in the season.

Also, I like Arsenal or United as TC options in GW34, rather than BB.

Might be naive but I don't see rotation as a huge problem in 36 if you pick key players who have something to play for. If you triple up on Liverpool and Everton then yes, rotation will come back to bite you.

50 point off ML leader... I'll do well to catch him, as he is pretty clued up too.

Still time, although it is VERY close to punt season if you want to claw it back.

I'll be punting after GW35 to be honest. (used my BB chip so kinda forces my hand)

If you've used your BB you need to punt from 34 in my opinion. 50 isn't a huge amount but you say he's clued up so he will presumably be lining up the DGWs (maybe even with his BB?) so you've got to do something fairly rapidly.

      Defence is:

      Fabianski Elliot
      Toby Simpson Wollscheid (Kompany VVD)

2FT, WC in 33. Which transfers?

      (A) Fabianski and Kompany to Cech and Bellerin
      (B) Fabianski and Kompany to Courtois and Bellerin
      (C) Kompany and VVD to Bellerin and Koscielny
      (D) Kompany and VVD to Bellerin and Ivan

Best nailed on Norwich striker? Looking for the dribs and drabs in a draft league for gwk 32 and 37 when they might be fighting for survival.

        Either Bamford or Naismith.

I'd prefer one of their defenders though myself.

rather Mitrovic if you want a relegation battler as there's no real nailed on Norwich forward that I can see

Mbokani it looks like. Still a rotation risk though.

Too risky before Intl. break.. and the fixtures of GW32 can get you all wrong.

Oh yeah sorry don't know why I thought it was GW 33 , also if I Wildcard in 33 won't my team be a bit messed up for that week ?

But couldn't you wildcard now take advantage of everyone you think that will rise in price by .2 if you get injuries your wildcard can still be used at the end of the week

Seen quite a lot of wildcard drafts containing west brom defenders.

With one of their dgw fixtures against arsenal away is there really much sense in this?

Just Dawson for his attacking prowess.
And who knows, Pulis knows how to park the bus against top teams.. And ARS are not good at breaking parked bus, they'll only play horizontal passes around the box.

I'd avoid West Brom like the plague to be honest, I think a clean sheet against Watford is the best anyone can hope for between now and the end of the season.

      NO BB Chip - So I'm just putting this out there;

I'm happy to go with 9 DGWers (+ Mahrez & Kane). And a bench that will help me in GW35.

Then have a couple of PUNT Weeks, before playing my WC for DGW37.

      nice plan?

Sounds good. Are you going to use TC in 34? Makes sense I guess as that then means you can WC in 37 rather than 36.

TC is pencilled in for GW34 yes, other option is WC a week earlier. Still not 100% though.

More difficult problem trying to get Alexis back in my team 🙂

Tough defence decision for next GW.

Playing Fuchs, Williams and Koscielny whilst benching Toby and Targett makes sense, right?

Play Toby.. Can easily nick one over Mignolet!
