Harry Kane plays a part in all three of Tottenham’s goals in a home stroll against Bournemouth. Marcus Rashford earns United a derby win at the Etihad, Sadio Mane climbs off the bench to fire Southampton to victory against Liverpool, whilst Jermain Defoe and Aleksandar Mitrovic grab a goal apiece as the Tyne-Wear derby ends all square.

Kane runs riot against the Cherries

Tottenham Hotspur kept the pressure on league leaders Leicester City with a professional 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

Harry Kane maintained his sublime form with a brace and an assist, bringing his tally to five goals across the previous three Gameweeks. A tough pair of fixtures (liv, MUN) now awaits the Lilywhites, yet Kane will doubtless remain a prime captaincy candidate, considering that he’s flourished against the more illustrious sides this term. Moreover, the fact he’s chalked up seven double-figure hauls may well deter many pre-Gameweek 34 wildcarders from shipping out the league’s top scorer.

Dele Alli kept his points ticking over with his fourth assist in three starts, while Christian Eriksen proved a tasty differential with his second goal in six outings. On that note, no midfielder mustered more shots on target (10) than Eriksen in their previous six appearances, underlining the Denmark international’s potency in the final third.

Owing to his second assist in four starts, Kyle Walker was the pick of the Spurs defenders as they registered their second straight clean sheet. In light of the fact that the north Londoners are now fighting on one front, it’s likely that Mauricio Pochettino will stick with their first-choice full-backs, ensuring that Walker and Danny Rose are less prone to rotation.

Bournemouth form falters

The Cherries succumbed to their first defeat in five match-ups after failing to match Spurs’ intensity at White Hart Lane.

The south-coast club were comprehensively outclassed in the capital and barely posed a threat while in possession, managing a paltry two attempts and zero shots on target. Although Bournemouth’s lacklustre display can certainly be written off as an aberration rather than a trend, their perilous run-in – which includes meetings with Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Man United – diminishes their Fantasy prospects.

Mitrovic earns Magpies a draw

Newcastle United salvaged a point in the Tyne-Wear derby but remain rooted in the bottom three after extending their winless streak to five matches.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his second goal in six starts to bring the hosts level seven minutes from time. The Serbian forward didn’t last the distance, however, as he was chaperoned off the pitch because of a head injury.

Georginio Wijnaldum scooped the assist and three bonus points, reaffirming his preference for home outings – all of the Dutchman’s nine goals and all but two of his five assists have arrived at St James’ Park.

Although Wijnaldum harbours decent differential potential ahead of the Magpies’ double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI), prospective investors will be concerned that Rafa Benitez deployed him alongside Jonjo Shelvey in the double pivot against Sunderland, forcing him to launch his penetrative runs from a deeper-lying position.

Jack Colback toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after receiving his tenth yellow of the season. Consequently, the former Black Cats midfielder will sit out Newcastle’s next two league ties (nor, sou), leaving the Toon desperately short at left-back. The Magpies have further worries in defence after Daryl Janmaat withdrew from Holland duties with a knee injury sustained against Sunderland.

Defoe strikes again

Sunderland’s inability to close out a match was once again brought to the fore as they conceded for the 16th successive outing.

Reinstated in the wake of his goalscoring cameo against Southampton, Jermain Defoe (5.1) fired the visitors into the lead just before the break with his twelfth strike of the season. With back-to-back home clashes (WBA, LEI) and a trip to Norwich next on the Black Cats’ schedule, there’s certainly scope for the pint-sized poacher to deliver returns on a shoestring budget.

On the injury front, Younes Kaboul was withdrawn at the 73-minute mark due to a calf complaint, rendering him a doubt for West Bromwich Albion’s visit.

Mane double wins it for Saints

Southampton rallied from two goals down to secure a stunning 3-2 home victory over Liverpool.

Despite not entering the fray until the second period, Sadio Mane had an eventful afternoon: the Senegal international missed from the penalty spot shortly after the break, before making amends with a well-taken brace. Looking beyond Southampton’s trip to Leicester next Gameweek, their match-ups against a trio of leaky defences (NEW, eve, avl) could re-establish Mane (7.3) in the mid-priced bracket.

Handed another start up front in a 4-2-3-1 set-up, Graziano Pelle netted his third goal (Shane Long assist) in two outings and turned provider for both of Mane’s strikes. The Italian frontman’s resurgence is laudable, yet the form of Harry Kane and the clamour for forwards with upcoming double Gameweeks (Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero, etc.) limits his appeal on the Fantasy market.

Klopp’s men capitulate

Liverpool’s three-match winning spell came to an end in a farcical fashion at St Mary’s Stadium.

In the absence of Roberto Firmino – whose hamstring problem is set to be assessed over the international break – Jurgen Klopp fielded Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as the strike pairing in a 4-4-2 set-up. The latter teed up the former for the Reds’ second goal, meaning that Sturridge has scored in his last two league outings. Nonetheless, his pockmarked injury record and rotation risk during the Reds’ double Gameweek 34 (bou, eve) persist as salient shortcomings.

Philippe Coutinho found the back of the net for the third time in five starts across all competitions, while Adam Lallana’s assist marked the fourth time in six appearances that he’s produced attacking returns (three goals and a trio of assists). Given the uncertainty surrounding the length of Firmino’s layoff, the form of the above-mentioned duo will be under greater scrutiny ahead of their first of two doubles.

Having entered the referee’s notebook in the first half, Dejan Lovren was hooked during the interval, with Martin Skrtel earning his first pitch time since 20 December. The Slovakian centre-back committed the foul that led to Saints’ penalty and generally endured a torrid 45 minutes, casting doubt over his capacity to regain a regular starting berth.

Rashford the United hero

Manchester United rebounded from their Europa League exit with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad.

Marcus Rashford was the hero of the piece, bagging his third goal (Juan Mata assist) in four league starts. Pitched at 4.5, the 18-year-old forward could be a handy facilitator for Man United’s double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY). However, with Wayne Rooney closing in on a return to action after the internationals, Rashford’s minutes still look at risk.

The Red Devils’ second clean sheet in three outings shines a spotlight on a defence that charts top for shut-outs (14) this term. Chris Smalling (6.5) and David De Gea act as safe routes into their rearguard, while Marcos Rojo (5.0) – who’s carded four consecutive starts – is gaining traction as a viable selection.

City stutter again

Man City’s title hopes are in tatters following their fourth defeat in six outings.

Despite mustering five attempts and four shots on target, Sergio Aguero produced his fourth blank in five appearances. Although his 34% ownership will fancy the Argentine’s chances of getting back on track at Bournemouth after the international break, it’s worth noting that the Sky Blues – who chart joint-fourth-bottom for away goals (13) – face three road trips in their next quartet of match-ups (bou, WBA, che, new).

Raheem Sterling (groin) and Joe Hart (calf) suffered injuries either side of the half and are likely to be ruled out for “three to four weeks”, according to Manuel Pellegrini. Allied with Vincent Kompany’s fresh setback, Hart’s likely absence decreases our faith in a defence that recorded successive clean sheets prior to the Manchester derby.

So. Anyone who's WCing 32 or 33 for BB in 34, who's considering keeping single GWers like Kane, Alli and Mahrez (even Simpson)?

I can't see anyone in Mahrez's price bracket who's likely to outscore him in two games to his one, aside from *maybe* Lallana...

I've got Lukaku and Aguero, so the only option in my head to swap Kane out for is Sturridge, but there's the injury risk (breaking news, I know...)

And I could get Lingard in for Alli, but am I the only one with a niggling feeling that Alli is still likely to outscore anyone else, even DGWers, in his price bracket in a single week..?

Personally I won't be, because of the blank/team's out of form/not the easiest DGW fixtures. Sturridge is the gamble, yes, but good games after + the second double...

I know what you mean, I just favour the fixtures in GW34, and think there's more to play for than in the penultimate game... if things were wrapped up title-wise/top 4, you're going to get a lot of rotation/blooding youngsters, a la the likes of James Wilson in the few games Giggs had in charge after Moyes left. Hiddink's already threatened it, too, and I wouldn't surprised to see Pellegrini making wholesale changes in Prem games if they progress past PSG in the Champions Leage (clearly his target now)

I'm also considering keeping Mahrez and Kane. Not sure about the rest. This is my current. Hints appreciated

      Gomes/Hart
      Sagna/Otamendi/Alderweireld/Bellerin/Cresswell
      Mahrez/ Ritchie/Ozil/Firmino/Sigurdsson
      Ighalo/Vardy/Kane

I currently have 2.9 in cash.

My thing ford GW32 would be selling selling Cresswell and buying Rojo or Koscienly, selling Ritchie and buying either Coutinho (I just don't have the cash for Payet) or selling Ighalo and buying Rashford. Any combination you consider worthy?

I wouldn't blame you. My only thought is that even if it costs you -4 to bring, say, Fuchs back in the following week, you could've made more than that up in the DGW.

If it's a LIV defender you get in for a points hit, that -4 pays for itself over the two DGWs even if they don't keep a clean sheet in any of the 4 games.

There is an argument for that, IF you think your DGW defender from West Brom or Newcastle will outscore Fuchs. I'm not sure he will.

I have a team that is entered in a Liverpool Supporters Club cash league, and I'm not permitted to own Everton or Man Utd players, and this obviously limits my my options.

I'm wildcarding now and have been asking this question the last few days. I've now decided to keep Aguero, Kane and Mahrez. Can't see who will outscore them until the end. Aguero is the only one I could be tempted into dropping, but I can see them bouncing back from this slump.

They will get a rocket up their behinds if it looks like they will miss out on CL. The replacements are either too unreliable or just not good enough, not to mention from out of form teams, some of whom may have nothing to play for in a few weeks.

I think for me, what it comes down to is this: will I be unable to bring the SGW back in because I've cashed in 50% of the profit I've made on them? Mahrez is maybe the only person who I'd be dropping and unable to afford to bring them back in at the expense of a benchfiller - I'd have to rejig my first 11, probably at the cost of points hits.

Good point, I have had Mahrez since the start (Leicester fan) so I can't afford to drop him but the others i'd lose 0.3-0.5m maybe. I don't have bench boost left so I only have to have space for 11 DGW players, which I see as an advantage. I have a good TV and they only thing I can't afford is a Liverpool attacking mid. If Aguero got injured over the interational break it would make things much easier.

Currently looking like this, but plenty of room to change:
Schemeichel, DDG; Bellerin, Clyne, Jagielka, Reid, Simpson; Sanchez, Ozil, Payet, Mahrez, Lingard; Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

Ditching Mahrez for Navas is perhaps an indication that double Gameweek fever has reached new, unchartered levels. 😉

Haha, fair point. I'm more likely to go one extreme or the other if I ditch him: free up enough cash to upgrade him to, say, Coutinho, or downgrade to the likes of Lingard to free up cash for my defence

Coutinho is worth it due to the simple maths of he's playing two more games - well in theory.

Ditching Mahrez is going to be a tough choice. I'm still undecided.

Kane, Fuchs and Mahrez are the only single gameweekers I'm considering saving.

      Mahrez for sure

Yeah he's a cash enabler, but so is, for instance, Gabriel @ 4.3m... The way I'm looking at it is that after BB in 34 and the blanks in 35, I'll still have to bench players GW36 onwards... so cash enablers with DGW34 is the path I'll likely take at the expense of SGWers (ie transfer Simpson & Adam Smith out for Gabriel and possibly Lascelles or Olsen, knowing that I'd hopefully never need to call on the latter for the rest of the season)

Why are you discussing it in terms of straight swaps dependant on price. If you swap out Kane (who I might* keep) you will have lots of extra cash to upgrade Alli or Mahrez. It's a WC, you can tinker with the whole structure.

More to the point, I was definitely thinking of keeping Simpson since I'm certain he will outscore almost all of the double gameweekers in the long-run, plus he's cheaper than them all.

Mahrez and Kane have chances of staying but it depends on who else is available.

Alli is almost definitely being upgraded to someone like Milner/Lallana.

Kane and mahrez and I think I'll bring in Simpson as well.

Seen a few people saying there is no cheap option in the dgw to replace Alli with. What about lanzini? 4.9? I've drafted a team with him Payet and martial and I can still field 343 in gw35 with 2 fts. Fancy lanzini as a big differential with most going only Payet.

Lanzini's a good shout, Lingard's a cash enabler, I'm monitoring Iwobi's mins, I'd even consider WBA's Gardner... I think there's plenty of options, especially if you bear in mind that they'll likely be benchwarmers for the remaining weeks 🙂

I think I've almost made up my mind to go without Kane. If his GW33 and 34 performances prove him to be essential, and the right circumstances ensue, I could bring him back for Aguero anytime from 35 onwards (for a 0.4 loss as it currently stands). But otherwise, I think I'm going to take my chances with Lukaku (who will have an additional 3 games over Kane in the run in - rotation notwithstanding) and a cheaper option - the likes of Rashford, Deeney, Ighalo, Rondon, Mitrovic etc.

I just feel as though I will get the most value out of my team for the final few weeks if I take some extra money out of Kane and move it into maximising the quality of 3 or so of my DGW options (e.g. Smalling over Rojo, Coutinho over Milner etc.)

As for Mahrez, he is the most likely to stay, I still haven't made up my mind on him yet.

And a leceister defender (e.g. Simpson, or Fuchs whom I currently own) is also a possibility, though more as a decent cost-saving option than anything.

Especially with the bonus potential the likes of Smalling/Darmian, Coutinho etc have - could more than make up any -4 hit to get Kane back in!

It's a good point about Aguero and Kane. Man City's fixtures from 35 on are distinctly less than essential, so it's an easy swap. Unless Aguero explodes in the double!

      as I'm BB in 37
I'm keeping Fuchs Mahrez Kane and Alli
If I was BBing I would keep Kane Mahrez and maybe Alli

With this team, what would your choice of WC (TC and BB available) be?

    Butland - McCarthy
    Alderweireld - Fuchs - Williams - PvA - Moreno
    Ozil - Silva - Siggy - Mahrez - Alli
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

This is the thing: I don't like a lot of players in my team, and do not see the benefit of wildcarding in 33 over 32. These are my main issues:
    * GK's not good enough.
    * Spurs have some tough games coming up, so I don't mind getting rid of Toby. Williams same thing, but he has been terrific the last couple of weeks.
    * Silva presents poor value. He is too expensive, out of form and he wrecks my team structure. Siggy was a WC punt, did come of somewhat but I don't like the thought of keeping him (also with Butland, if that makes sense)
    * There are lots of players getting in the right form, but they are not in my team. I'm lookings at you Sanchez, Coutinho, Payet (vs Palace this week).
    * My transfers last week were poor to be frank, and I feel like rectifying them straight away. (Kompany and Antonio -> PVA+Siggy)

Care to reply, I appreciate it!

      1. Daaf

I don't see why not. Mahrez and Kane are likely to be still in my team yes. I also like Fuchs, he has earned a lot of points and bonus points for me and Leicester's fixtures are a delight until GW36 (Man, Everton and Chelsea, two of them away).

I even feel that Vardy is worthy of consideration, he outperformed Aguero over the last six weeks (26 vs 25). Aguero did get the biggest haul vs Villa with 11, and he was most people's captain that day I'm sure. My point is, Vardy has been doing allright so maybe shipping Mahrez instead of Vardy is the way to go. I don't know yet. Vardy is also on penalties, so aside from the extra points a midfielder can get for CS and goals I don't really see the benefits of Mahrez over Vardy at the moment.

Alli is another I intend to keep, he is so cheap, seems unfazed by the whole thing and is a joy to watch. And over last ten weeks, he is better than Ozil for example.

So yes. Are you keeping SGW players?

I think that needs a WC this gameweek or the next. If you draft a possible team already this week and it looks better than your current one, then go for it.

Thanks lads, I appreciate it and agree with you. In hindsight I should have spent my last two transfers better, but I had one foot in the WC GW 33 door so to speak, that didn't help. That also means I am likely shipping PVA, even if I just brought him in. I feel he will get chances to score the next couple of weeks but I will have to see if I have room for him. Sunderland are also in a tight spot because of yesterday's draw, so losing him will not be the end of the world (and otherwise I'm sorry 😉 )

I do not agree with others about Kane. Think you can get better value from cheaper dgw strikers in that 4 to 5 gameweek period. Use that money to upgrade the rest of your team. Get in Smalling instead of Rojo, Kos instead of Monreal maybe.

If you changed Fuchs to Simpson you might have the cash you need to have Sanchez and Martial. I think Martial is only a must-have alternative for the much more affordable (and recently scoring) Rashford if the feeling as we get closer to gw33 is Rashford's spot is uncertain.

My imagined gw33 wc team would be pretty similar. However, as Zophar says, Rashford is the critical choice. Clearly, if nailed on, a tremendous win-win given his schedule and price. If not, we should consider Martial. I might also consider 1 Arsenal mid and Welbeck instead of Lukaku and include a second Liverpool mid (Coutinho).

I have Kane too, I was thinking Eriksen to Payet, but Silva has no form.

Current team; (w/ 4 FTs available until the double) £3.1m itb /
    - I've 6 DGWers (2 of which are GKs so ultimately 5)...
    - No BB Chip
    - WC available but not using it til 36/37

    --------------------------
    Elliot - Henn
    Bellerin - VVD - Simpson - Dier - Daniels
    Ozil - Firmino - Mahrez - Alli - Siggy
    Kun - Kane - Vardy
    ----------------------------

I'll happily start both Kane & Mahrez alongside 9DGWers.

    ---------------------------------

Pretty set on these two transfers
    Siggy > Alexis
    Vardy > Lukaku
    ------------------------

But it leaves this...£8.2m to fill 2 DEF slots.
    Dier >
    Daniels >
    --------------

Potentials are Ake / Evans and a def fodder (£3.8m)

I want to keep VVD for GW35 and don't want to dismantle my team. Basically i am stuck!

    HELLLLP!!

Don't get Lukaku then until your WC in 36, fixtures aren't great until then and blanks in 35

I would do Siggy to Payet instead of Sanchez for the extra funds - not having Sanchez is a risk, but you can't have everybody.

    Forster
    Bellerin - Alderweireld - Fuchs
    Mahrez - Alli - Firmino - Payet
    Lukaku - Kane - Aguero
Subs: Hennessey, Arnautovic, Cresswell and Daniels.

    1FT
    Bank: 2.6.

    --
Do you have ideas how to get up? Arnautovic and Cresswell offer good, and if I want it on the bench? Or what do you think? I know it is still too early, however, you have any suggestions?
Captain choice I am also very uncertain ..

Any weaknesses in my team here?

    DDG Elliot
    Bellerin Rojo Sahko/Reid Fuchs Simpson
    Sanchez Ozil Payet Firmino/coutinho Mahrez
    Aguero Sturridge Deeney

    11 for 35 without transfers.
Will swap fuchs for dgw after 35.
    Aguero -> lukaku in gw36

Not interested in 15 dgws. Loooing for a team over the next 7 weeks

      Strurridge - fittness

If Kane blanks next gw will you still keep him for dgw?? (I am thinking most wont)... so next gw will be crucial to see if kane is a differential or not...

On Saturday after Mahrez scored I deleted all my WC drafts that didn't include him. Yesterday when Kane scored his second I deleted all drafts that didn't include him. 😀 So yes, I might change my mind again if he fails against a tougher team (at least on paper). 35 I guess is one of the main reasons why keeping Kane would be beneficial.

Couldn't resist wildcarding. How is it looking?

    De Gea/ Mignolet

    Gabriel Smalling Sagna Bellerin Sakho

    Antonio Payet Firmino Sanchez Mahrez

    Aguero Lukaku Deeney

DGW 34 players: 14 (Mahrez is the only SGW player)
    GW35 players : 9 (2 FT to make it 11 on GW35)

Gw34 and gw35 team, wildcarding in gw36, how's she looking?

      --------------Hennessey
      -----Smalling Bellerin Evans
      Sanchez(TC) Ozil Payet Mahrez
      ------Aguero Lukaku Martial
      ---------------------------------------------
      Schmeichel Alli Toby Daniels

With cash itb for Lukaku to Kane in 35

I can get 8 outfield dgwers plus gk, Kane and mahrez for dgw34

this now makes more sense than the gw33 WC, which I was set on. Surely if you're keeping 2 or 3 sgwers you might as well wait til gw36 to WC?

Could really use some help deciding who to bench:

      Schmeichel, Hennesey
      Sagna, Bellerin, Huth, Alderweireld, Wollscheid
      Özil, Alli, Mahrez, Lanzini, Payet
      Welbeck, Kane, Aguero
