There’s plenty for us to ponder this Monday evening as we assess the lessons learned over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane have the form to punish any potential sellers with one eye on the double Gameweeks, City’s malaise shows no signs of ending, Everton’s lack of consistency is a real concern, whilst Arsenal’s young wide man may have played his way into wildcard consideration.

Selling Mahrez could prove costly….
It’s 16 goals and 11 assists for the season now for Leicester’s wide man after he bagged the weekend winner at Palace. Although many are looking to bring in 15 players with a pair of fixtures in time for double Gameweek 24, can we really risk selling a player that’s averaged 7.2 points per game so far? With a trip to Sunderland in Gameweek 33 and home clash against Swansea in Gameweek 35 – at a time where six sides are without a fixture – Mahrez’ current form may well retain his place in our wildcard teams as the Foxes look to cement their spot at the summit.

…and Kane looks undroppable….
The Tottenham frontman is also stepping up his output as Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain in the race for the crown. Kane’s two goals and assist against Bournemouth helped him to a 16-point haul and, allied with a double at Villa, served up back-to-back double-figure returns for the first time this term. Granted, the fixtures are hardly straightforward (liv, MUN, sto, WBA, che) but Kane’s red-hot streak is clearly making many think twice over parting company.

Everton’s inconsistency remains an issue….
With nine matches still to play in the final seven Gameweeks, Everton’s home clash against Arsenal afforded us an early opportunity to scout their main men ahead of the double Gameweeks. The Toffees failed to convince, though – a 2-0 Goodison loss was the second time in three they’ve been unable to score in front of their own fans, whilst Roberto Martinez’ men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last four. Whilst Romelu Lukaku remains a key target for most, his team-mates are struggling to show they are worthy of our consideration.

Iwobi’s on the radar….
Handed a start against Barcelona in midweek, the youngster kept his place as Arsene Wenger’s side made their way to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win to strengthen his claim for a run of first-team outings from this point onwards. Priced at just 4.5 and listed as a midfielder, the teenager is bound to spark a bandwagon if he can hold off the challenge of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for double Gameweek 34.

The Hammers lone striker role remains up for grabs….
Rewarded for his goal and assist off the bench at Everton with a first start since Gameweek 14, Diafra Sakho was unable to take his chance in West Ham’s stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Just one minute after replacing the Senegal striker, Andy Carroll was amongst the goals as Slaven Bilic’s “Plan B” immediately reaped reward against the champions. Although the Hammers’ assets will surely play a part in our wildcards as a result of their pair of doubles, the competition for minutes up front looks set to steer our attentions away from their strikers.

The Canaries are building momentum….
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for Alex Neil’s men, with a 1-0 win at West Brom helping them clamber two points clear of the drop zone. Norwich’s triumph over Tony Pulis’ men came without the likes of Nathan Redmond and Steven Naismith, with a 4-4-2 set-up proving decisive at the Hawthorns. With three vital fixtures to follow (NEW, cpl, SUN) and a double in Gameweek 35 (MUN, WAT), the Carrow Road club may yet prove an unlikely source of Fantasy returns as they look to save their top-flight status.

Mitrovic could be Rafa’s main man….
The Serbian has now started both matches since the appointment of Rafa Benitez and fired a precious equaliser at home to Sunderland to salvage a derby draw. Analysing the numbers, Mitrovic clearly looks key to their survival bid – he sits second amongst forwards for touches in the box and joint-top for efforts in the opposition box in the last two Gameweeks. Having also found the net against the likes of United, City and Spurs, the 6.2-priced striker may well prove a canny differential for those willing to gamble with their three-man frontlines.

The Saints still have plenty to play for….
A stunning 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool took the St Mary’s side to just four points off fourth spot yesterday. Granted, their lack of a double Gameweeks will ensure than few, if any, will be tempted by weekend scorers Graziano Pelle (three goals and two assists in two Gameweeks) or Sadio Mane but with their dreams of Champions League football still very much alive, the Saints clearly have the form to play a part in the run-in. Those holding Leicester defenders will be hoping the Foxes can curtail Koeman’s charges as they head to the King Power next time out.

Our Liverpool options are on the up….
With Roberto Firmino sidelined through a hamstring injury, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge served a timely reminder of their capabilities by bagging a goal apiece at Southampton. Although Firmino remains the standout option for many ahead of Liverpool’s two doubles, yesterday’s teamsheet – where Coutinho and Sturridge started for the second time in three days – also suggests that rotation may not be quite as rife as we anticipated over the run-in. With Adam Lallana now sitting on three goals and as many assists in his last six league outings, the case for looking beyond Firmino is gathering pace.

Pep’s arrival can’t come soon enough for City….
A 1-0 home reverse to United means that the Etihad side have won just three of 11 matches in all competitions since confirming the Spaniard’s summer arrival. In terms of league outings, City have played seven times and scored more than a single goal on one occasion over that period – a 4-0 thrashing of basement-dwellers Villa in Gameweek 29. With Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling adding to Manuel Pellegrini’s injury concerns, City’s worrying lack of form may well see many opt against loading up on their main men ahead of the double.

United’s defence may be the way to go….
Whilst Marcus Rashford hogged the headlines with a derby winner over City, United’s lack of impact in the final third – two goals in the last three Gameweeks – allied with the imminent return of Wayne Rooney, dents the youngster’s Fantasy prospects. Instead, yesterday’s 1-0 win earned the Red Devils a fourteenth clean sheet of the season and strengthened the case for considering their defenders in our wildcard plans. With back-to-back home clashes against Villa and Palace in Gameweek 34, the appeal of Chris Smalling and David de Gea is gaining momentum after another resilient rearguard display.

First attempt at WC 33 for DGW34, how's it look?
    DDG Migs
    Darmian Funes-Mori Cresswell Clichy Gabriel
    Lallana Firmino Sánchez Antonio Özil
    Rashford Agüero Lukaku

What Man U do over the next 2 weeks will change things, CBJ starting would make it much easier

Too much cash in goal imo, but looks great. Maybe downgrade a goalie and get Coutinho for Lallana

Looks good. I'm up in the air regarding the Man U players to get in as well but Rashford and Lingard are great enablers with their price.
Will Gabriel and CLichy play both games is the question though?

Rumour has it that Guardiola has a stipulation in his contract that he only takes over a Champions league team i.e. City, cant happen right?

Surely they don't go through all the trouble of announcing him mid season with the possibility that he doesn't even come.

      Then what do they do

I don't think it's true or as Andy says, they'd just not announce it yet.

Let's be honest. If they don't qualify for the CL he'll just get twice as much money to spend with no CL games to worry him so title in first season and time to perfect his team to assult the CL the following season.

      Win win

It's a bad move for him going to City.

      They need so much work.

Almost every Manchester City fan would agree that their current squad is a mess and needs major rebuilding. They probably need 5 or 6 new signings tbh, to replace the fast declining players or at least give them strong competition.

It's the ages of a lot of the senior players that's the problem. So many of them are the wrong side of 30 now, and declining at an alarming rate.

            Sagna - 33 years old
            Zabaleta - 31 years old
            Clichy - 30 years old
            Kolarov - 30 years old
            Demichelis - 35 years old
            Navas - 30 years old
            Fernandinho - 30 years old
            Yaya - 32 years old
            Silva - 30 years old

Yaya and Kolarov will be heading for the exit door imo, as well as a few others. There's even rumours today that Mangala could leave...

They're in a mess. Like United they've managed to waste shed loads of money recently.

City fan here. Our team is in shambles. I read today that only Aston Villa runs less per game. It's a bunch of overpaid, lazy, mercenaries. That's been shot at us a couple of times, but this season, I agree with the haters. There is no excuse for the laziness in this team. Sterling and Navas may have been poor, but they put in a lot more for this team than stars like Aguero, Yaya, and Silva. There are too many passengers in this team. Other teams walk through our team.

If Guardiola decides not to come, you'd better believe we'd begin a United downfall.

As my train wreck season comes to it's ungainly conclusion, I'm simply going all-out differential on my currently active WC.
I will stick to the brilliant stuff posted on here regarding maximising DGWers in 34 and 37 and having enough 35ers too.
However I'm dumping Kane, Alli, Mahrez .. the lot.
I'm going Aguero-less too due to horrific TV/ SV.

Sturridge, Sanchez/ Ozil double-up, Deeney, Mitrovic, Janmaat, Mata, Klose from Norwich, Lanzini, Barkley...

All these type of guys will be in there.

I'm 700k, so why not. The vague plan is to then win the Euro's FF and also FPL next year.

You've not had a train wreck season. FPL is about enjoying chucking your slipper at the telly when Aguero (c) fails or Firmino gets injured as well as the wins. It's only a game.

I've had a crap FPL season but a stormer for UFPL...I haven't done anything different in either game...same players , same thoughts.

At 700k, the current FFS template is pretty much guaranteed to get you significant rises in OR. As such, I don't really see the need for differentials. Unless you're chasing an ML rival with a template team of course.

Doing better than me this season rca. For me the key differential for the dbls is dropping kun and dropping all single gw players. I think a lot of those ahead of us will be more sensible and keep kun and a few single gw players so we just need our punt to work out and lei and spurs to keep quiet.

I also think capt is going to be key with a possible maverick pick like sanchez or Welbeck maybe paying dividends.

Hmm I like some of those punts but really don't like the mitrovic pick. Your rank isn't the best but still doesn't mean you should be getting players just to be different, go for who you think will score best or has potential to. If you genuinely think Mitrovic is one of the best 3 fwds for the dgw then go for it.

Current results “prediction” for each match next GW (based on each team’s number of team goals spread market mid-point).

    Villa 0.75 Chelsea 1.8
    Arsenal 2.25 Watford 0.75
    Bournemouth 1.1 Man C 1.6
    Norwich 1.4 Newcastle 1.05
    Stoke 1.3 Swansea 0.95
    Sunderland 1.35 West Brom 0.9
    West Ham 1.55 Palace 1.05
    Liverpool 1.3 Spurs 1.25
    Leicester 1.35 Southampton 1
    Man U 1.45 Everton 1

For example, if Villa v Chelsea was played at the same time in parallel universes, say, 100 times, the spread-betting website reckons that Villa would score 75 goals (i.e. a 0.75 average) and Chelsea 180 (i.e. a 1.8 average).

Sitting 58 pts behind in espn. Going to go hard or go down in flames. There is nothing for 2nd place.

If you had only 14 transfers between now and end of yr. How would you think to allocate them?
And I plan to hold until just before gw34 unless one looks enticing sooner.

    2-3 Pool players cuz 2 dgw's
~4 total ManU and/or WHM. But still would need to cover blanks and may have 1 or 2 TF to use at best.
3 Arsenal w/1 dgw and decent last few
    Add Barkley for 2nd Everton

Have Kane, Lukaku, Aguero, Mahrez, and Fuchs now, so can keep as solid sgw'rs or not have to use FT
If form continues, I think Kun to Rashford could be a good differential.

    Hey DGW planners

Here's a simple template where you can fill in the player and team you have in mind, and it will auto fill in the fixtures they have. I found it quite useful to see which combination of DGW34 players give me enough 9+ players in GW35.

    Elliot, Hennessey
    Bellerin, Kosc, Smalling, Otamendi, WILLIAMS
    MAHREZ, Ozil, Firmino, Payet, ALLI
    Lukaku, Aguero, VARDY

    BB 11DGW, 4SGW

Can i get away with it?

PS. started to notice loads who were excited at the prospect of 15 DGW players in 34, now going off that looking at the drafts they've come up with and not being too keen. So can i get away with 11DGWers and 4 good SGWers?

Just worried about having players i don't fancy after that week, and i think the points can be made up by keeping Leic/Spurs players for their future fixtures. It would mean i can get the ideal 11 for 37 too, so another way to catch up on missed DGW points in 34, whereas others will be just getting 11 out, having followed some plan, but not necessarily the ideal 11 they'd want if that makes sense

Yep, I know where you're coming from. I haven't picked a team in earnest yet... I haven't had the time if truth be know, otherwise I might have WC'ed this week ... but it would've been nice to see Kane and Alli return blanks last week to make it easier to move them on.

As you say, getting the right balance will be key.

Im hearing yas big time. I could have fielded 9 DGW for 34 but kompany got injured and I ended up using my 2 transfers to get non DGWs, I made up my mind a bit early, now I am having second thoughts and I could only field 6 DGWs but in the plus side I would have all the Big shots in my starting 11 and not bothering with BB or WC until 37. Decisions. On the plus side the 2 transfers I used have worked Willams made me 8 points better off, and Siggy gained a few too.

It wasn't so long ago that when people were all deciding which of Vahrez to captain, it was always Vardy as he was on pens. Now he's seen as some dud(not saying you think that, just in comparison to Mahrez) because he's been quiet lately compared to Mahrez
Williams always gets bonus when Swansea keep a clean sheet, so i'm hoping 8/9 points will better a DGW defender from the likes of WBA/Watford/WHU

Evening. Working on a follow up to a captaincy article I did back in Novemeber -- I know Arsenal and United have the best fixtures, but as far as form goes in 2016, a West Ham and Liverpool double up in midfield would actually get you the most productive players and allow you to easily afford your dream lineup elsewhere.

DGWers (34 or 37), Most matches with returns since gw21
    Firmino, Antonio 6
Payet, Milner, Aguero, Defoe, Rondon, Costa 5

Would be painful to only be able to fit in Ozil OR Sanchez OR Mahrez, but it could pay off big.

He'll always be a good pick but there's been a difference this season (and probably next season). The difference is we could have managed quite nicely without him this season....We've been a bit slow on the uptake with that fact.

I know the urge will be to say all of them, but which Chelsea player is likely to repay a 4pt hit?

I'm thinking even Ivanovic or Cahill (used to be a Villian) could repay the hit, as well as the usual midfielders.

    Defence for this week is:

    Fabianski (Elliot)
    Bellerin Simpson Wollscheid (VVD Toby)

    1FT, 1.7m ITB. Which move?

    (A) Fabianski to Cech
    (B) Fabianski to Courois
    (C) VVD to Koscielny
    (D) VVD to Ivanovic

No BB left so doing WC in GW35 after taking a -12 hit to get 11 DGW players for GW34.

Wow, I didn't realize that he is so cheap. But unfortunately, it will take a serious injury to Koscielny or Mertesacker for Gabriel to be nailed-on. You also have to consider not just gw34, but gw33 and gw35 as well. I can't see him playing more than 2 out of the four.

Eager to know how long Hart is out for. Caballero's price could really make the dgw team that we all want possible.
On a different note, has anyone considered Mangala? I see a lot of teams with Otamendi, but Mangala is a full 1.2 cheaper. Does anyone really think that Demichelis will see another game after Sunday's debacle?

Yeah, but every draft I put together either has no gk for gw35 (ddg, adrian, etc), a terrible fixture (Elliot), or are too expensive (Cech and Hart). I'd hate to use a transfer on a keeper for gw35.

Yeah Mangala is defo 3rd choice and will play for as long as Kompany is out imo. Pellegrini didn't give timescales but think a few weeks for both including this break judging by his words

I'm only trusting the backline for one game, against the weakest team in the league with virtually nothing to play for. If I needed a long-term keeper, I wouldn't have made this move

Chatting to one of my staff earlier who is an avid NFL fantasy player. He is in a dynasty league. This basically means when a new season starts he has to keep at least 50% of the players from the previous season.

Plus added to the fact they only can swap with other players in the same league and not have transfers makes it quite interesting. Would be fun to play FPL like that I think. Long term planning.

I would love to play a dynasty league but it'd need 16-20 close people and monthly line up picking (maybe with autosubs) to keep the long term planning going without it just going to the line-up checking junkie in the group.

On an individual level it's not too bad as you can get systems to email you when its your pick and you can log in, pick your player and disappear for a day or so. Or you can submit a preference list and the system takes your highest available player when its your turn and you can edit the lists order at any point. Another thing you can to do to churn through picks is have arranged happy hours where you're all logged in on a Saturday or Sunday morning and just rattle through a hundred picks or so.
