After assessing our favoured options in Defence over the next four-to-six rounds of fixtures, we now turn our attentions to the centre of the park. There’s no surprise to see the double Gameweek teams dominate, though the likes of Arsenal, West Ham, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle and Everton have more than one protagonist vying for our consideration.

Despite blanking in his last three matches, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil remains at the summit due to the Gunners very favourable upcoming schedule (WAT, whm, CPL & WBA, sun, NOR). The German recovered from an ankle knock to play against England last night and appears, along with Alexis Sanchez, to be less prone to rotation during the run-in. The former Real Madrid playmaker is available at 9.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), and should provide a steady stream of attacking points over the next month or so, perhaps offering a more reliable option than Sanchez at a cheaper price. The latter, meanwhile, is slowly returning to form over the past few weeks having registered a goal and two assists over the last three Gameweeks. The 10.8-valued midfielder still looks somewhat short of his best form and has been nowhere near as consistent as Ozil but his explosive potential is summed by a haul of 46 points in three matches between Gameweeks 7 and 9.

Philippe Coutinho climbs all the way to second spot this week by virtue of Liverpool’s hugely favourable run of fixtures over the next six Gameweeks (TOT, STO, bou & EVE, NEW, swa, WAT & CHE). The Brazilian has scored once and registered three assists in his last two starts in the league, and looks nicely priced at 8.1 in FPL. Should Roberto Firmino recover from a hamstring injury, though, the former Hoffenheim attacker – who has four double-figure hauls to his name over his last eight appearances – is likely to be the stronger option for us to consider from the Reds’ midfield, though a double up on the duo looks potentially prosperous for the run-in.

It’s a similar story when assessing Man City midfielders, with Yaya Toure currently our pick ahead of DGW34 (che & new), with pretty favourable home clashes against West Brom and Stoke either side of the double. Priced at 8.5, though, the Ivorian has blanked in seven of his last eight league appearances and pulled out of Ivory Coast duties due to a recurrence of his heel injury. Should Kevin de Bruyne (10.2) prove his fitness in time, the Belgian – who has averaged 5.5 points per appearances this season – could well be worth that extra outlay.

Ross Barkley is one of the main climbers this time around due to Everton’s trio of upcoming double Gameweeks. The 7.1-priced playmaker has struggled for form, though, and produced points in only two of his last 12 league outings but his security of starts is key ahead of an enticing run from Gameweek 33 onwards (wat & cpl, SOT & liv, blank, BOU, lei & sun). Aaron Lennon offers an alternative to Barkley at just 5.6 in FPL. The winger has scored four goals and bagged an assist over his last six matches, and while he might be slightly more at risk to rotation with Roberto Martinez having several options in the wide positions, the 1.5 saving between the two players may make many FPL bosses seriously consider the former Tottenham midfielder as an enabler.

Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum returned to form with an assist and full bonus points in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland, and therefore moves up several places on our ladder ahead of a generally favourable run of matches (nor, sot, SWA & MCI, liv, CPL, avl), including that double in Gameweek 34. Priced at 6.8 in FPL, the Dutch international looks great value given he’s racked up nine goals and five assists so far this season, although it’s worth noting he did start the Tyne-Wear derby in a deeper central midfield role alongside Jonjo Shelvey. Team-mate Andros Townsend (5.8) is a little lower down but could be worth a flutter – he created seven chances in Rafa Benitez’ two matches in charge and netted in the recent loss at Chelsea.

West Ham’s Dimitri Payet looks certain to be a popular choice for many of our five-man midfields given the Hammers face two doubles (lei & WAT, SWA & MUN) before the end of the season. Slaven Bilic’s side do face a blank in Gameweek 35, but with 14 total goal attempts (five from inside the box) and 17 chances created (joint-second among midfielders) over the last four matches, the former Marseille man looks well worth his 8.3 price tag in FPL. Michail Antonio is a cheaper alternative at just 5.4. The former Nottingham Forest winger has scored six goals and provided five assists over his last 13 league appearances, and his home displays, in particular, ensure he earns the nods ahead of team-mate Manuel Lanzini (4.9) as our budget Hammers’ midfielder. Antonio has racked up double-figures in four of his last six at Upton Park and plays in front of his own fans in each of the next three Gameweeks (CPL, ARS, lei & WAT) and also faces a pair of home clashes in double Gameweek 37.

Palace’s Yannick Bolasie is boosted by back-to-back doubles in Gameweek 33 (NOR & EVE) and Gameweek 34 (ars & mun). Despite missing nine matches due to injury, the DR Congo international has equalled last year’s four-goal haul and looks the man most likely to pick up the points from Alan Pardew’s midfield.

Elsewhere, the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Gylfi Sigurdsson all fall in this week’s refresh despite their impressive recent showings. The lack of a double Gameweek is the obvious reason here, as we look to take advantage of the schedule, though Mahrez remains relatively high in our estimations – having already racked up 11 double-figure hauls, the Leicester wide man has shown time and again he could well outscore those players with a pair of fixtures.

WC 36 here. Think I'm about settled on this plan, but changes in form may alter things

    GW33 - Butland->Robles
GW34->Daniels->Smalling. MAYBE Dann->Reid, but not likely

DGW34 (TC on Sanchez or Ozil)

    Robles
    Bellerin, Smalling, Dann
    Sanchez, Ozil, Payet, Mahrez
    Kun, Kane, Lukaku

    Elliot, Ali, Simpson, WIlliams

    GW35 - Lukaku+Dann->Pelle+VVD
    GW36 - Wildcard
    DGW37 BB
GW38 - 2 FT to punt on ARS or other players.

I like the Pelle and VVD move against Aston Villa..... was looking at that myself but I'll WC earlier so don't want to lose out on later doublers.

GW 35 move can be golden. Obvious transfers really to get em if you WC 36.

Just make sure you stillcan afford Lukaku

Hi guys, I'd really appreciate some feedback on my GW33 WC ideas.
(Currently I'm ranked 18k, fell from 10k after Captaining siggy and not Kane... damn move to left).

General idea, is WC 33 for the following team,

    Cech (DDG)
    Coleman, Sakho, Bellerin (Smalling, Janmaat)
    Barkley, Mahrez, Firmino, Ozil (Payet)
    Lukaku (C), Kane, Mitrovic

    GW 34BB,

GW 35: Move Barkley + Coleman out on FT for Azpilcueta + Willian
    GW 36: Mitrovic for Sakho/Igalo/Defoe
GW 37: Doing something like Kane to Costa or Mahrez to Lingard etc.... still far away so no rush for this decision.

Not going to lie.... transfering Aguero to Mitrovic hurts a bit... but following on some comments and watching the odd highlight I like the idea because (A) it allows me to have a solid defense with good keepers for all the remaining GW except probably 33 and (B) Newcastle seem to have a bit of fire under them with Rafa there so I'll have a striker with lots to play for (survival, repaying the faith etc etc)

Think i'm on the right track here?

BIG risk to go with Kun as you say. And not thrilled with Coleman tbh. But otherwise, looks solid.

About Coleman.. I know. Although I think they will be able to keep a CS or 2 in GW 33/34.
I didn't want to go with Robles though because it wouldn't give me a keeper option in 35 and Im not convinced by any of the Palace defenders for those 2 GWs, plus coleman always has a bit of of an attacking threat (even though its diminished this season)

Sound logic. I only have Dann since I've owned him since GW9. Happy to get Robles for back to back doubles, and can start Elliot against a knackered (I hope) Liverpool team ion 35.,

No Kun no party haha. But your argument seems justified so there you go

I would play Payet ahead of Ozil

        9 years, 8 months ago

I'm playing Ozil because I've got cech and bellerin in defence... seems a bit counterproductive to play Payet and Arsenal defence....... might be hoping for a long shot that arsenal can keep a clean sheet... my other option is to play DDG against spurs (risky). I could play Janmaat that week also if he is fit.....

2 weeks of tinkering can make my head explode 🙂

I disagree with the logic. I play the players that i think will get the most points, not what I feel about - even if Im watching it.

Yeah it would only be counterproductive if you have a working crystal ball. The game, and life, would be a bit boring if that was the case

My wording could have been better.
When i said counterproductive I meant that by playing payet I assume that he is going to get some points... which equates to Cech and Bellerin losing clean sheets, thus the ozil over Payet thing.

But yes, you guys got me thinking. I might opt for playing Payet over Mitrovich for 33, maybe subbing Bellerin for Janmaat (depending on how Newcastles defense look vs Bellerins going forward)... and then accept that I will probably only get a save point or so from Cech.

That Arsenal vs West Ham should be pretty good to watch and might have a few goals in it.....

(ok, I really just want to make myself feel better now, I don't want to play DDG against Spurs...)

    DDG Elliot
    Bellerin Cresswell Jagielka Sakho Simpson
    Sanchez Mahrez Coutinho Payet Bolasie
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    0.3 itb as things stand.

Looking at something like this for a GW33 wildcard. The plan then would be to TC on Sanchez in 34. In 35 I'd get rid of Bolasie and Aguero for 2 DGWers.

Sorry for the repost, didn't get any reply...

WC active, what do you think about it, and about the plan for the following weeks?

    Elliot l Robles
    Bellerin l Gabriel l Rojo l Dann l Sakho
    Sanchez l Marhez l Payet l Barkley l Bolasie
    Mitrovic l Aguero l Lukaku

    3.1ITB

    Plan:
    GW33: Save FT, Lukaku TC
GW34: Bolasie --> Coutinho, save 2nd FT, BB
    GW35: Dann + Barkley --> PVA + Lallana / Chelsea mid
    GW36: save FT
GW37: bring 2 more DGW players

    Cheers!

Hey guys, does anyone else think TC34, WC36, and BB37 is still the way to go?

    - Have 8-9 DGW players with free transfers or 4 pt hit from now until gw34
    - Keep Spurs and Leicester players who also have good fixtures from now until GW36
    - TC Sanchez or Ozil in 34 for two easy fixtures

    - WC in GW36 and load up on DGW37 players, can take out Spurs and Leicester players and even Aguero without worry to get them back
    - BB in gw37

I think this is the biggest downfall to WC36 BB37 honestly. Having 3 arsenal players from here on out will be a HUGE advantage. All these people doing WC36 are passing up on Arsenal at home to Norwich AND Aston Villa. That's madness. And anyone who does keep them surely won't be happy to BB with 2/3 players away to Man City.

For WC36 you can also keep 2-3 Arsenal players just like many would still keep a few players from Spurs, Leicester in WC33.

I don't know. It depends on your team at the end of the day.

But can you actually pick a solid 15 man team for DGW in GW 37?

GW34 have better teams such as Arsenal and City, and solid SGW side such at Tott and Lei who can fill in and play on blank GW 35.

With Lei and Tott having meh fixture on GW37, you're only relying on the DGW teams. West Ham + Liverpool + Lukaku + maybe Costa and I'm out of picks tbh

    Ozil Sanchez Firmino Mahrez Alli
    Kane Vardy Aguero

Well you have 5 DGW players and 4 FTs from now til DGW 34 and Mahrez Kane too so I think you can survive GW WC 36 as long as you can pick a solid 15 DGW players then. (I can't personally)

Robles should be good since he has DGW on 33 & 34
Need MU cover so Toby to someone?
I'd be happy to play Fuchs on the remainder fixtures
I'd want some Payet in there too.

Hey, sorry I missed your post last night, with your squad you can absolutely WC in 36. 9 + Kane + Mahrez could serve you well in gw34. Toby is an obvious target for releasing funds for me.

I think you would be a lot better off WC33, BB34, TC37. It's a really solid team but doesn't take advantage of the DGWs enough for me. You do have 4 transfers to use before GW34 tho so if you're dead-set on that then good luck. Everyone you mentioned would be good to bring in.

      • 12 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

Butland's injury hamstrings you a bit so you need to look at one keeper to cover all 4 gameweeks so I'd look at getting Mignolet there, then I'd add Lukaku and Bolasie in 33 and do whatever floats your boat in 34 & 35.

Can I get some inputs on this?

    Robles Elliot
    Bellerin Gabriel Rojo Fuchs Sakho
    Ozil Payet Coutinho Mahrez Bolasie
    Kun Kane Lukaku

Few of my thoughts (feel free to skip this)

•) Yes, Gabriel and Rojo are risks. They are nailed on first choice though. Rotations bound to happen with any team with large squad.
Even if they play just 1 game, they're still better than any SGW/DGW player at that price point. So at that price, I'll take the risk

•) Picking Elliot Bellerin over Cech Simpson means higher ceiling for Bellerin should outscore Simpson's CS potential over Newcastle.

•) Coutinho over Firmino over how both players perform with Sturridge in the side. Firmino's return dent when he's not playing his false 9 position

•) Keeping Kane for the next 2 and switch to Sturridge (or maybe keeping). Guy is on fire and allow me to monitor Sturridge's minutes.

•) Bolasie seems like a long punt, but with decent underlying stats and favourable fixture. Will swap to Antonio or Wijnaldum on GW 34. I'm 60 points behind ML leader so I'm desperate

But his 1 goal in 1-0s are worth 12 pointers 😉

Other consideration is having Barkley and then switch to Alli and then back to Barkley which effectively costs (-4)

        So,

        a) Mahrez (SOU sun SWA WHM)

Cheers Ryan, will be considering it. Just Fuchs to Janmaat and it's pretty much the 15 man team DGW.

Mahrez and Fuchs are safe. I don't think Mahrez will score as much with the focus on clean sheets. He will get dragged off early too

Yeah considered that too, I'm just stuck on Kane right now.

Also double attack on Sanchez Ozil but means downgrading Bellerin Coutinho -> Simpson Lallana, which I'm also not too keen.

Yep fair enough. I'm removing Kane because I'm getting desperate to get to a respectable rank and time is running out. Not confident though. Pretty sure I'll hold mahrez and Fuchs or simpson

I considered getting Sturridge for the next 2 instead rather than switching on GW 34. But worry about his minutes.

This might be a better team and plan than my previous one.

    Robles Elliot
    Bellerin Cresswell Sakho Aké Simpson
    Sanchez Mahrez Payet Coutinho Bolasie
    Aguero Kane Lukaku

    0.0 itb with that squad.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

Potentially downgrade Aguero so that you can upgrade a keeper or Ake (I'm waiting till GW36 for him) and Bolasie after GW33.

Thanks for the input. That squad is missing 1 big thing as well - no United coverage. DDG in for Robles and make changes elsewhere. Am keen on keeping Kun until GW35. Can't see a way of keeping Cresswell in as well if I'm to get De Gea.

    Butland

    Toby Bellerin Huth

    Mahrez Ozil Alli Payet

    Aguero Kane Vardy

    Hen Firmino Moreno Browning

need to sell Butland, any recommendations considering upcoming DGW.

I'd be intrigued to hear people's thoughts on this plan..

    GW33 WC to:

    Robles Courtois
    Clyne Clichy Huth Bellerín Janmaat
    Barkley Payet Firmino Coutinho Özil
    Lukaku Welbeck Kane

GW34 - TC Chip, Carry the FT
    GW35 - 11 players, Carry the FT
    GW36 - Clichy & Huth > Rojo & Cresswell
GW37 - Welbeck > Martial, 12 DGW Players, BB Chip
    GW38 - AOA Chip

Obviously this all depends on injuries and rotation.

    1. GreatCarragherReef
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

It isnt really using the BB chip though. Youll have 1 extra dgw player than normal...
Also, who are you gonna bench gw34?

I understand that, but don't really want to get rid of my non DGW players. Might do Welbeck > Sakho as well, but we'll see.

I'll be benching Courtois Kane Huth & Janmaat.
