Phil Jagielka and Ross Barkley are both forced off injured in the first of Everton’s double Gameweek 33 fixtures. David Silva is passed fit for City’s clash with PSG tomorrow, Vincent Kompany edges nearer a return, whilst Mauricio Pochettino plays down fears of an injury to Harry Kane.

Bournemouth
Callum Wilson made his first appearance since Gameweek 7 last weekend after emerging from the bench in the 2-1 win over Villa. Cherries boss Eddie Howe is keen to ease the frontman back into action over the run-in:

“It was precious for him and for us even though it was only a short period. He’s been the model professional and has worked really hard. It’s small steps for him and we’re not going to plant him in straight away. We need to build him up, but he’s looked good in training and has been a great goalscorer for us last season and the start of this.”

Everton
Roberto Martinez admitted that Phil Jagielka is unlikely to be passed fit for a trip to Crystal Palace in midweek after suffering a hamstring issue against Watford:

“It was a real negative when Phil felt his hamstring towards the end. He will be assessed over the next 24 hours but it doesn’t look good. Phil doesn’t get injured that often so when he asks to come off then that is a worry. He was holding his left hamstring and we will assess it overnight. It is too early to tell [whether he will miss the semi-final]. We have a period of five games in two weeks but he is a serious doubt for Wednesday and Crystal Palace.”

Ross Barkley is also a minor doubt for that match-up after he picked up a minor knee problem at Vicarage Road.

Considering the popularity of Barkley (190,000 new owners) and Jagielka (23,000 new owners) before the Toffees’ successive double Gameweeks, many Fantasy managers will be desperate for the duo to make a swift recovery. Although loading up on Everton coverage has so far proven to be an unprofitable tactic, they are next pitted against an Eagles outfit that conceded the joint-fourth-most goals (10) in their previous six outings. Moreover, only three teams have mustered fewer home goals (17) than Palace this season, which bodes well for Everton’s prospects at both ends of the pitch.

Man City
In his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with PSG, Manuel Pellegrini conceded that, despite returning to training, Vincent Kompany will remain on the sidelines, whilst Nicolas Otamendi has shrugged off a knock picked up last weekend:

“Vincent Kompany is not 100 per cent, it will not be possible for him. Otamendi twisted his ankle in the last game (against West Brom), he will be okay to play”.

David Silva is available to face the Ligue 1 outfit after recovering from his ongoing ankle complaint, whilst Sergio Aguero is also fully fit. Pellegrini already clarified on Saturday night that the Argentine was merely removed as a precaution in the final moments of City’s win over West Brom:

“Kun had just a kick – it’s not a problem for Tuesday”

With Kompany back in training, then, those eyeing up Eliaquim Mangala for City’s double Gameweek 34 may need to reassess their options – should the Belgian prove his fitness in time for the weekend’s trip to Chelsea, it looks odds-on that he’ll make a return to the starting XI. Silva’s return to the fold merely adds to Pellegrini’s options in the final third. As we saw against the Baggies, though, for as long as City remain in Europe, Pellegrini’s team sheets look difficult to second-guess and it may well be that a Champions League exit will be advantageous to Fantasy managers and result in far less rest and rotation on a domestic level.

Man United
Louis van Gaal confirmed that Timothy Fosu-Mensah was subbed off at the 68-minute mark at White Hart Lane because of an injury:

“Yeah, he did his job very well but he is injured and he has to go out and that’s a pity for the team. But it was a very difficult selection for him because I could also have chosen Matteo Darmian and I cannot think that a consequence of Timothy’s injury is a 3-0 defeat, I don’t believe in that.”

If Fosu-Mensah is ruled out for the Red Devils’ double Gameweek (AVL & CRY), Matteo Darmian’s 17,000 new backers will feel more confident in the Italian full-back’s chances of reclaiming a starting berth. That being said, the abysmal nature of Darmian’s cameo against Spurs brings Antonio Valencia into the frame as a possible replacement.

Newcastle
Rafa Benitez said that Daryl Janmaat and Steven Taylor are set to be assessed after both men left the field at St Mary’s Stadium with knocks:

“I don’t know. We will see. We have had a lot of them (injuries). We have to see how they are, and after start counting players for the next one. He [Steven Taylor] was a little stiff. So I think it was a big risk to keep a player with problems on the pitch, especially with the problems we have in defence, so that is why we took Steven off.”

According to the local press, Janmaat is also nursing two broken fingers after he punched the dressing room wall at half-time at St Mary’s.

Norwich
Alex Neil explained that Timm Klose – who was stretchered off with a knee complaint against Palace – will undergo further tests to determine the length of his layoff:

“We need to analyse it over the next day or so and that should give us a good reflection, but it is a blow for us and it was a blow during the game.”

Southampton
Ronald Koeman shed light on Shane Long’s substitution against Newcastle, describing how the Irish marksman suffered from dizziness following a collision with Magpies shot-stopper Karl Darlow:

“He’s ok, he was a little bit dizzy after what happened in the first half and that was the reason that I changed Shane in the second half”

Meanwhile, Charlie Austin was an unused sub after he picked up a minor knee issue.

Stoke
After being named in the first XI in the previous two Gameweeks, Joselu dropped to the bench for Stoke’s trip to Anfield as Mark Hughes opted to hand Peter Crouch a rare start. Although the former was afforded 20 minute as a second-half sub, the Potters boss confirmed he was unable to start the match due to illness.

Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino played down any injury fears over Harry Kane after the forward was subbed off late on againt United yesterday. Speaking to the press after the 3-0 win, the Argentine revealed:

“He is okay. He just had a kick and maybe a dead leg but he is okay”

Watford
Etienne Capoue was withdrawn eight minutes from time against Everton due to a knock.

West Brom
Tony Pulis said that Salomon Rondon experienced a back injury in the first half against Man City and will be assessed today:

“I’m not sure which centre-half pulled him back, but he ripped his back. He couldn’t move in the end. He’s being manipulated now and we’ll see what he’s like on Monday.”

West Ham
Uncertainty surrounds the omission of Diafra Sakho from West Ham’s starting line-up against Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic cited a “minor injury” as the reason behind the Senegal international’s absence, though according to reports elsewhere, the striker could face disciplinary action for a purported display of dissent. If true, this surely strengthens Andy Carroll’s chances of retaining the lone-striker berth in light of his quick-fire hat-trick on Saturday, making him an intriguing differential for the Hammers’ double Gameweek 34 (lei & WAT).

One of the worst series I've ever seen

Terrible script, laughable special effects, badly drawn characters.

It's basically soft porn for nerds

You me and Doolitle at least 🙂

One of the best plots ever. Very fast paced and action packed, unlike Breaking Bad, which put me to sleep at times.

Horrible gameweek so far. 33 points, only Lukaku(c) and Coleman to come. down from 3.2k to 8.1k 🙁

Hopefully GW34 isn't a massive let down after all this..it is after all what we WCed for and GW33 was just a storm to weather..

How many games do you think these will get in the DGW34 (my thoughts in parentheses)?

    Gabriel (1 game, hoping 2)
    Lovren (1 game, hoping 2)
    Coutinho (1 game + sub)
Firmino (2 games, subbed off in one)

Hehe, you are not the only one hoping for that!

Even if they do crash out, will all of them get two games? Probably Lovren would, but not 100% when it comes to Coutinho and Firmino.

I'll be interested to see how Silva does tomorrow, otherwise I'll probably transfer him out for a hit.

I'm not a fan of hits though - Williams to Jags didn't go well!

      Good article.

I am not a gambler, and earlier this season I realised that I go through a pattern each week, depending on my weekend in FPL. And if I feel disappointed, destitute, lost and alone on a Monday or Tuesday, it doesn't matter... come Friday, I've almost forgotten about it, I have started over, I am ready, and it's all about how I do on the weekend, not last week.

You're absolutely right, and I hope that for most people, the unpredictability is the buzz, and unlike gambling, without having to risk our wages on it, cos one good week makes it all ok.

We were just all blinded by the chips, next year, we'll wildcard 4-5 weeks before a dgw, so that we have a great week, plus 4 transfers to build before 😉

Plus ML's with best gameweek and best monthly scores keep prizes within grasp.

Losing my nerve over going Payetless for GW34BB.

    Robles, Darlow
    Sakho, Gabriel, Delaney, Smalling, Simpson
Firmino, Özil, De Bruyne, Sánchez, Bolasie
    Agüero, Lukaku, Martial

I had been planning a), but how about b) for a hit?

    a) Bolasie > Lanzini
    b) Bolasie + KDB > Payet + Coutinho

Evening everyone. Wildcarded in 32 so have 2 ft this week. There are 3 players I want to potentially get out my team, these being:

    Dann, Bolasie, Rashford.
Does Dann to Smalling look good? This would leave me with 1.1itb.

Who would be a good option to replace Bolasie with for a max of 7.1?
    Thanks

I have seen some mad stuff this season

    Random Full back substitutions
    Ashley Young at right back
Selling Javier Hernandez (although he'd be useless in this team, Hernandez requires something call chance creation, whatever that is)
Nick Powell on for Juan Mata when chasing a game in Wolfsburg
Juan Mata at RM with Lingard at CM
    Marouane Fellaini
but Ashley Young up front with Martial at LW may be the most bonkers yet

As a bloke i like LVG but his penchant for playing players out of position is getting out of control.
Lots of managers do it - makes em look clever (no i know it doesn't quite the opposite) - but we can have 5-6 players in the wrong position at any one time.

My thoughts on Moyes have been well documented.

I feel he was a decent, honest, hardworking man who gave his utmost to succeed but ultimately found himself in a job that turned out to be bigger than he expected.

I do not think he would have succeeded and would not take him back, but I believe that he still has much to offer and hopefully Everton's struggles this season have put an end to the revisionist rewriting of Moyes' Everton tenure int something bad, which is definitely was not

Time will tell but i think he is going to be pigeonholed as a manager like allardyce or pulis - okay if you want to get a safe midtable job done but no more than that.
He's been linked with villa swansea and newcastle which says it all.
West Ham got bilic and he shows what CAN be done with an attacking manager

If he hadn't gone to Spain he'd be linked with bigger jobs. Two fails in a row doesn't look good. If he had me hey to spend he could get the Newcastles of this world into the top 4 within 3 years IMO.

Nor do I - though the fact he wanted Fellaini in the first place isn't exactly a positive.
Its a case of what do fans want - moyes (imo) will never offer up the type of football martinez for instance will, but at the same time he should be a safe pair of hands. I just don't think he'll get another 'top' (forgive the phrase) job again.

There aren't many Evertonians that thought his tenure was bad. It's just it became apparent very early on that even though he was a very good manager his style of football was too one dimensional and quite frankly a tad boring. This is why I knew he would fail at Utd as the fans demand attacking football. The criticism he received and the idea the club was too big for him is unfair to say the least

    Here's my team:

    DDG/ Robles
    Fuchs / Sakho / Bellerin / Daniels / PvA
    Payet / Ozil / KdB / Bolasie / Mahrez
    Kun / Lukaku / Mitrovic
    2.5 ITB

So I was all set to go:

    Daniels > Gabriel &
    Bolasie > Firmino

But not so sure anymore after this GW. Any suggestions?

No I still hope for top 20k this season given all the players there or thereabouts having used all their chips. And I had low expectations to start with.

Call me a foolish optimist but time will surely tell. Truth is I was basing my entire season strategy on DGW34 so the utter despair has probably become denial!

Fair enough. Normally a WC is an instant green arrow but perhaps the chips rule has changed all that and luck is needed the week before bench boost use.

Experienced ones among us have done what we assumed was the sensible thing. If FPL keep the chips situation the same next season it will be interesting to see how people play it differently. Unless of course we all come up smiling next Thursday night.

Might be more interesting if it doesn't work in fact - to see what alternative strategies people can come up with for the chips.

BB in 34 with the following team:

          DDG Robles
          Smalling Bellerin Sakho Gabriel Simpson
          Sanchez Barkley Payet Lanzini Coutinho
          Aguero Lukaku Mitrovic

Just wildcarded and now contemplating a -4 to get Iwobi + Otamendi or Milner + Monreal for Barkley + Gabriel for 34

    Silly question perhaps

Is penalty area touches any touch where a penalty can be given, i.e. inside the box?

Almost, I guess it's when you're touching a ball that's inside the box.
You can get a pen even if the ball is outside the box

He has a good record against bottom half sides and would have had a 16 point haul against West Ham if he scored the penalty

Gambling when chasing a ML is all part of the game. Don't judge me. Don't judge meeeeee.
I went a step further and put it on Bolasie.
      And anyway only halfway there

Chances, we don't know how the likes of Wham, Chelsea and United will be playing by GW37 so it was just as worthy as Kane was this week.

    I have 2ft. This week:
    1. Bolasie to Lanzini
    2. Dann to 5.3 who plays in 35? (already have Sahko)

    Gameweek 35 ft:
    1.Rashford to Pelle (for Villa)

This results in no hits and means I can field 11 in 35. Does this sound good? Who is the best defender at 5.3 with a gameweek 35 fixture ?

    Thanks everyone
