Scout Picks

Less than 24 hours after Gameweek 34 came to its conclusion, we roll out our Scout Picks for the weekend’s seven fixtures. Man City, Leicester and Southampton supply us with a couple of players apiece, whilst we call upon a solitary Gunner and triple up on title-chasing Tottenham ahead of West Brom’s visit to the Lane.

Man City’s home clash against an out-of-sorts Stoke looks conducive to their clean sheet potential in Saturday’s early kick-off. With question marks over the make-up of Manuel Pellegrini’s back-four ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, though, we’re opting for Joe Hart’s security of starts as a route into a defence that’s been breached just three times in the last seven.

Christian Fuchs comes in for Leicester’s King Power head-to-head with Swansea. The Foxes racked up fifth straight shut-outs prior to last week’s draw against West Ham and will be looking to grind out another three points in their bid for the title on Sunday, whilst the Austrian’s four assists and 21 bonus points strengthen his appeal.

Virgil van Dijk offers a decent chance for points at both ends of the pitch this weekend. The centre-half, who has netted three times already this season, travels to a relegated Villa outfit with a single strike in their last six league matches.

Tottenham’s home clash with West Brom affords Toby Alderweireld the chance to consolidate his spot at the top of the FPL defender standings. With four goals and three assists to his name, the Belgian will be confident of a fifth clean sheet in six against a Baggies side that has scored just once in their previous five.

We’re backing Riyad Mahrez to end his three-match drought in the absence of Jamie Vardy this weekend. The Algerian racked up 21 points against weekend visitors Swansea at The Liberty back in Gameweek 15 and faces a defence that’s mustered a single clean sheet on the road all season.

Dele Alli returns to the Scout Picks on the back of three goals in his last two appearances. After failing to find the net in eight matches, the Spurs youngster seems to have found a second wind and looks back to his swashbuckling best at home to a Baggies defence that’s conceded twice in three of their last four away fixtures.

Alexis Sanchez is nailed-on for Arsenal’s trip to Sunderland. The Chilean has belatedly found his best form of the campaign, with a brace against West Brom taking his tally to six goals and two assists in six appearances ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

With Sanchez on board and two big-hitters up front, we turn to Bournemouth’s budget midfielder Joshua King as our final midfielder. Plying his trade up front in recent matches, the Norwegian has scored in four of his last six matches and hosts a Chelsea defence with a single clean sheet – against Villa – in their last nine.

Southampton’s trip to Villa also brings Graziano Pelle into our plans. With four goals and three assists in his last five outings, he looks poised to heap further misery on the midlands outfit this weekend.

Harry Kane comes in for Tottenham’s home clash with West Brom. After bagging a third brace in five appearances during Monday’s win at Stoke, his relentless run of form looks poised to put the Baggies to the sword on Monday evening.

A home encounter with Stoke earns Sergio Aguero the final place in our XI. Another player who seems to have stepped up a gear in recent matches, the Argentine’s six goals in the last four fixtures have earned him top billing in this week’s Captain Poll as he welcomes a defence that has conceded four times in their last two fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet at Bournemouth last week is the main reason we’ve been reluctant to promote Liverpool’s players in our starting line-up for the plum home clash against Newcastle. Dejan Lovren is our bench-warming defender, though, as the Reds look to build on the midweek 4-0 derby win over Everton.

Roberto Firmino was nearer to making our first XI but had to be sacrificed in order to acquire Sanchez, Kane and Aguero. With Divock Origi sidelined, the Brazilian’s chances of starting against Newcastle – either in a central support role or as a “false nine” – seem more likely. Five double-figure hauls in his last 11 sums up his explosive potential against a defence without a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 12.

Sunderland’ home clash with Arsenal brings Jermain Defoe into consideration. After bagging his thirteenth of the season last weekend, he faces a Gunners backline that’s been breached at least twice in three of their last four on the road.

The Community Champions

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

In addition to a shot at the £100 Amazon prize, FantasyBet are offering a chance for further prizes to Community Champions that are eligible to play their games. More details can be found here.

Red Devil leads the way after beating the Picks by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

The Scout Picks beat Gameweek 34’s Community Champion Larry Legend by 133 points to 126.

The Gameweek 35 Community Champion is Mark-O Pirlo, who has selected the following team: Cech, Alderweireld, Fuchs, Bertrand, Alli, Sanchez, Mane, King, Kane, Aguero, Long.

    My tuppence worth on Sturridge.

When Origi was fit, he was first choice for their primary competition - the Europa. Sturridge was second choice. Therefore, Klopp would've planned for them to rotate pretty perfectly as below....

    Dortmund - 1st
    Stoke - 2nd
    Dortmund - 1st
    Bournemouth - 2nd
    Everton - 1st
    ---------------------
    Newcastle - 2nd
    Villareal - 1st
    Swansea - 2nd
    Villareal - 1st
    Watford - 2nd
    Chelsea - 1st
    West Brom - 2nd
    Europa Final - 1st

BUT... When Origi got injured, Sturridge becomes the "1st" player. And Firmino becomes the "2nd" if you ask me.

When Origi got injured, obviously Sturridge came off. For me, it's not coincidence Firmino then came off about 10 minutes later, ready to be fresh for the weekend.

If you ask me, Sturridge WON'T start either of the next two. 🙁

That's the dilemma. He needs him fit but also sharp. Having him coming from the bench Last game and this weekend definitely will impact his sharpness in the UEFA. Likewise we are bare bones with strikers so maybe klopp play's firmino up top solo

Already taken a 4 point hit to get me this.

    Darlow / DDG
    Gabriel / Bells / Simpson / Sakho / Delaney
    Sanchez / Ali / Coutinho / Payet / Lennon.
    Kun / Kane / Sturridge

11 starters. 3-4 dodgy starters (Gabriel, coutinho, Sturridge, Kun)

    Worth another 4 point hit?

    A. Leave it
    B. Delaney to PVA
    C. Countinho to mane

What would you do with this:

    Cech
    Targett Fuchs Alderweireld Dawson
    Sánchez Firmino Mahrez Özil
    Kane Agüero

    Subs: Hennessey Lingard Fosu-Mensah Lukaku
    1FT 0.3m

Big doubt over Targett so I'm thinking: Lukaku + Lingard to?

    A) Pelle + King/Loftus-Cheek
    B) Ulloa + Mane/8.2

Both those would be for a hit.

Or I could just do Luk -> Pelle / Ulloa for free

    Lanzini + Mitrovic > Alli + Defoe (-8).
Worth it? Gives me 12 players but I expect one of them to miss out.

After a week of deliberation i decided to stick with Sturridge as he offers me a great differential in my mini leagues. Took a -8 (gulp) for the first time in about 3 seasons.

Coutinho, Mitrovic & Payet OUT, Milner, Kane (c) & Alli IN (-8).

Just thinking about how good Spurs were against Stoke and how poor WBA were last night convinced me to pull the trigger.

Team reasonably set up although a De Bruyne / Gabriel no show will leave me with under 11.

    Good luck all! Pub time!

Just finished the scoutcast, what an exercise in positive thinking that was! Triple cap was clearly the better option and they now have decimated their teams for 35, taking multiple hits to field an 11 and get Spurs back. Andy is like "yeah I'd do it again in a flash" and then recommends getting a villa player in... Duuuuuuuuuurrrrr

    1. Colonel Shoe 肝池
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

dont think it was clearly the better option.......eg the highest score of the week was a bb
some ppl who neither had bb or tc did very well by holding spurs assets

      1. ChristoBisto
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Just don't think WC to get DGW players in was a good idea when it scraps your team and means they're now all taking multiple hits. I'm not taking hits, feel like I'm set up better now

        1. Colonel Shoe 肝池
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

yes but ppl who did got typically very high scores, so a hit is not that bad...ie youve earned it

I didn't WC or bench boost and got 170 is that a high score. Take your hits off last week's score I guess

Because Sanchez got me 75 points. Bench boosts didn't get 25 points plus I've got Toby a, Alli, Kane who ppl are desperate for now

Because it helped me with the correct Kane or Aguero captain choice in GW30 (most recent result is at the top):
            ------------------
            Spurs last 4 at home vs WBA (W1 D2 L1, F3 A3)
            0-1
            1-1
            1-1
            1-0

            Spurs last 4 at home (W3 D1 L0, F10 A3)*
            3-0
            3-0 (Kane 2)
            2-2 (Kane 1)
            2-1

            WBA last 4 away (W0 D2 L2, F3 A6)*
            0-2
            1-2
            0-0
            2-2
            ------------------
            City last 4 at home vs Stoke (W3 D0 L1, F7 A1)*
            0-1
            1-0
            3-0 (Aguero 1)
            3-0 (Aguero 2)

            City last 4 at home (W2 D0 L2, F7 A4)
            2-1 (Aguero 1)
            0-1
            4-0 (Aguero 2)
            1-2

            Stoke last 4 away (W2 D1 L1, F7 A7)
            1-4
            2-1
            1-1
            3-1
            ------------------
            CONCLUSION

I thought your conclusion would be captain Aguero!

Hmmm....of the 3 variables i looked at, Spurs are better than City in 2 of them. i.e. Spurs better home form in last 4, and WBA worse away form in last 4.

Is it madness to consider Costa instead of Defoe?

how does Delaney, Coutinho & Martial ---> Rose, Alli & Kane for -8 sound?

            would give me:
            Darlow
            Rose Gabriel Bellerin Sakho
            Alli Sanchez KDB
            Aguero Kane Mitrovic
            (Robles Smalling Payet Lanzini)

Do you prefer (1 transfer only):

            A) Lingard to Townsend
            B) Rojo to Alderweireld

            Thanks!

Start Kosc or Sakho? Already playing Bellerin.

            No, still not conviced...

10 players starting this GW but no Kane and extremely uneasy about my Liverpool trio (Mignolet, Stu and Milner).

            Got 0.6 ITB.

            Mignolet
            Simpson, Morgan, Bellerin
            Ozil, Sanchez, Milner, Alli
Stu, Aguero (C - unless i get Kane)

            Bench: Adrian, Fosu, Smalling, Carroll

            Thinking:
            A) Stu>Kane
            B) Ozil, Carroll > Iwobi, Kane -4
            C) Aguero, Milner > Kane, Eriksen -4 (crazy, but not that sure aguero will start and think Spurs will cruise on Monday)

            Other suggestions?

            Thanks, really appreciate the feedback!

            0.1m short of Cout + Martial -> Alli + Kane (-4)

Is it worth doing Payet + Martial -> Alli + Kane (-4) instead?

            -4 for fosu > rose?

            current back line is:

            Huth, Bellerin, Moreno

Have Daniels on bench but also have sturridge and no other subs?
