The draw for the first round of the Paddy Power Cup has been made and qualifiers can click on this link to find out exactly who they’ll be pitting their wits against. Let’s see if graqfreak can take the scalp of none other than Scout overlord Mark this coming Gameweek.

The deadline for transfers for Round 1 is, of course, this Saturday at 11.30, with the announcement of the results to follow a day or two after the end of the Gameweek.

Here’s a reminder of what’s on offer…

The Prizes

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 and over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

If you’re going to bet with Paddy Power, always gamble responsibly.

    a) Aguero, Sessegnon & Pilkington vs b) Sturridge, Mata & Drenthe - for this week only ... that's what my cup tie will come down to.

    Which you would choose?

Got this team after doing De Laet—>Brown early this week. Do I bench Dyer or Drenthe?

    Vorm (Given)
    Kompany, Brown, BAE (Simpson, Enrique)
    Silva, VDV(v), Walters, Drenthe (Dyer)
    Rooney, RVP(c), Sturridge

0.3 left, and I feel like making another change. So any of these worth a hit, if not then which would you do next week?

    A – Given–>Ruddy
    B – Kompany–>Richards or Jones
    C – Rooney—>Hernandez/Aguero/Ade

    Cheers

Depends, if Rooney doesnt play this week then i would defo look at changing him, but then if he does play and he doesnt get you any points I think it is worth looking into changing him when you can buddy.

Seems sound enough. Can do Rooney+Sturridge--->Hernandez and Ade (with 0.2 spare) for a -4 next week or spread it over 2 weeks. Had intended to get Ba for Sturridge.

Like Rooney, if you're paying 12m in the hope a pen might save him then it may have come to the point of selling him. Soon, obviously.

His last 5 goals have all come from open play. An excellent option for this week, but I'm not sure over the next few with the fixtures and four yellows.

Thinking of wildcarding will need to wildcard by Dec 9th anyway as away until Jan 4th

    De Laet > Baines
    Ramsey > Drenthe
    Murphy > Bale
    Suarez > Adebayor
    Agbonlahor > Yakubu

Leaves me 0.1 in the bank
    Keeping: Westwood, Vorm
    Orr, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    VDV, Dyer, Silva
    RVP

I wouldn't wildcard that (plus you don't have to use it before Jan).

I do like the Ag to Yak transfer though - looking at that one myself.

Eh forget it.. will downgrade Richards to Brown and upgrade Allen to Sinclair/Sessegnon.. leaves 0.4 for Sturridge to Ba later on
    Team would be
    Vorm Ruddy
    Baines Jones Enrique Brown Simpson
    Vdv Silva Walters Sinclair Pilkington
    Rvp Adebayor Sturridge

Feel bad as this way i used my wildcard for just
Nani, Suarez, Ramsey, Moses, Kompany, Wilkinson
    OUT
Walters, Adebayor, Sinclair, Pilkington, Jones, Baines
    IN
anyway.. what do ppl think of it?
or is Sinclair to Allen and Brown to Richards better?

Just a bit too much money in defence for my liking but then, if you click my link you'll see im not a fan of an expensive defender, generally.

I'd be tempted to use the £0.4m to get sorenson/westwood instead of Ruddy incidentally ... but you've probably thought about that already.

Thing is i consider only Rvp, Ade, Vdv, Silva consistent.. lost faith in midprice mids for a while now.. with that team i get Richards, Jones, Baines and Enrique who all seem destined for 150+.. also if they get benched in real life they'll rarely ever come on for 1 minute cameos like attackers could.. also i'm playin vorm till jan so dont need a back up.. Pilkington and Allen seem able subs and i can rotate with walters and my midprice striker is Sturridge and soon Ba.. so i can play him every week till Jan..

You sometimes need to take a gamble in cup comps so lets say 95% of players left in cup comp have RVP as capt. Surely it's time to take a gamble rather than relying on the resy of your team to outdo the rest of your opponents team. Just a thought (i'll prob capt RVP lol)....

ok I have 2 options this week. which is best

    a) Sess and Graham (taking Allen out)

    b) Sess and Helgs/Morison (taking Tiote out)

Either striker will be for Aguero, may seem odd but I need serious cash to address a couple of weak points in my team, going down that low frees up much money, just a question of which outcome offers best points return.

My PP Cup opponent looks a tough nut to crack. Our differentials are:

    Me: Westwood,Brown, Wilko,Vermaelen, Ramsey, Adebayor
Him: Vorm, Jones, Enrique, Kompany, Sessegnon, Agbonlahor

He has 2 freebies too, so I imagine Bongy will get upgraded, and perhaps Kompany too. Going to be tough. Any chance pour moi?

Also, my transfer plan has changed again...haha. Got to do it tonight as too many players due to fall in price. Original plan was Dunne/Woody -> Verm/Naylor, however Moses more likely to fall than Woody this week, and I would probably bench Naylor this week, so now looking at Moses -> Reo-Coker/Tiote instead. Thoughts?

I know there are mixed feelings about keeping Rooney but I feel I'm losing out if I keep holding on in case. Got 2 FTs and 0.5m in bank. Team is linked.

To be honest Ade, Helguson (and Sturridge) are on my radar as Suarez repalacements this week.

Team news will dictate things - don't reckon Fergie will give too much away on Rooney (sounds like he won't make it). Helguson; Warnock seemed pessimistic on his chances of starting.

Rooney > Ade....Bolton at home next week could be 3 or 4 for Spurs.

If he does get rested (which I doubt), he’ll only come on if Arsenal need goals, and will probably score them. If Arsenal are 3-0 up on 60 minutes, there’s no chance he’ll come on so your vc can take over. Unlikely he’ll just get 10 minutes at the end.

In what sense does Ramsey have the footballing ability to rival Heskey? By all reports he's been playing well, just not getting FPL points.

But still a better bet than say Walcott (who suddenly seems popular) imo. It's 2 goals + 3 assists (Walcott) versus 1 goal + 4 assists (Ramsey) so far this season, and Walcott comes at a much higher price.

Ramsey has made some absolutely blinding through balls this season and only been let down by poor finishing (normally from Gervinho). He will get assists and the odd goal though often he is the guy that plays the "pre-assist" out to the wingers admittedly. I am an Arsenal fan and therefore biased but comparing Ramsey to Heskey is very unfair...

Was thinking of drafting Aguero in next week for the juicy home game v Norwich. Could see rotation being rife for that game though - right across the board - before the key CL game v Bayern Munich.

Could see Aguero being benched v Norwich. Mancini got it wrong by not starting Richards and Aguero v Napoli etc.

    Walker, Jones, Gabbidon (R.Taylor, Shotton)
    Allen, VDV, Silva, Ramsey (OHara)
    Rooney, RVP, Ba

Used my FT. 0.5 in bank

Gabbidon or/and Rooney could be injured, Jones or/and Ramsey could be rested.
With only R.Taylor of the bench I could be left with 10 players or even less

    Quick vote please

    A) Do nothing and hope for the best
    B) Shotton -> Brown 4 point hit (bench Gabbidon)
    C) Shotton -> Swanea defender 4 point hit (bench Gabbidon)

I'd be tempted by Gabbidon to Brown - if you're only ever playing 3 defenders and shotton isn't falling in price, no harm in keeping him until the january WC.

That said, you never know when you need a sub so Shotton to Brown is safer.

I would take a 4pt hit but im biased because whenever I've taken one this season, I've green arrowed.

    quick repost

k I have 2 options this week. which is best?

    a) Sess and Graham (taking Allen out)

    b) Sess and Helgs/Morison (taking Tiote out)

Either striker will be for Aguero, may seem odd but I need serious cash to address a couple of weak points in my team, going down that low frees up much money, just a question of which outcome offers best points return?

If I get Ba in in 2 weeks Tiote has to stay unless there is a better option for 4.5 million, which begs the question to Ba or not to Ba?

    Team is linked btw.

So you're considering another striker to then put Ba in next week? You're taking too many hits here.

You need to sit down and look at where you want to be in 3 weeks and what the cheapest way to get there is.

I'm not sure where you think your weaknesses are - why not just take woodgate out for a 4.0m --> Wilkinson or McAuley for free, then you have £0.5m to upgrade Tiote/Allen next week. Downgrading Aguero to Ba can wait until after Man City host Norwich next week I reckon.

Thinking of wildcarding will need to wildcard by Dec 9th anyway as away until Jan 4th and want to load up on Everton & Tott

    De Laet > Baines
    Ramsey > Drenthe
    Murphy > Bale
    Suarez > Adebayor
    Agbonlahor > Yakubu

Leaves me 0.1 in the bank
    Keeping: Westwood, Vorm
    Orr, Enrique, Simpson, Brown

That's only 5 transfers, do not wildcard for that. (if you were wildcarding, why keep Orr?!)

Agbonlahor out this week, Adebayor in next week in my opinion. De laet out either week for a hit and it's not the end of the world - you would still have your WC.
