Yaya Toure is passed fit for City’s trip to Real Madrid. Robert Huth and Marouane Fellaini are handed violent conduct charges by the FA, Cesc Fabregas could also face a charge in light of Monday’s tunnel altercation at the Bridge, whilst Emre Can and Santi Cazorla step up their recoveries from injury.

Toure available for Real clash

During his pre-match press conference ahead of City’s clash with Real Madrid this evening, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that Yaya Toure is fit and available after recovering from a muscle injury. David Silva is still sidelined with a hamstring problem and is joined on the sidelines by Pablo Zabaleta – the latter took to twitter to announce he’s ruled out for around three weeks with a calf complaint.

The Scout Says: It remains to be seen whether Toure will make a first-team return at the Bernabeu, given that he was benched in the last Champions League match he was available for. Instead, Pellegrini could choose to unleash him from the start against Arsenal on Sunday in a match that City need to win to climb above their visitors into third. Despite the numerous changes to Sunday’s team sheet at Southampton, the importance of the Arsenal clash – which is also Pellegrini’s final home league match in charge – suggests that the Etihad side could be back to full strength against the Gunners. Even if they progress past Madrid, the fact that the Champions League final takes place on May 28 would surely quell any need for rotation this weekend, allowing Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne likely returns to the domestic fold after they warmed the bench from start to finish at St Mary’s. At the back, Zabaleta’s absence looks set to allow Bacary Sagna a domestic return – the Frenchman has failed to start the last six league matches but now looks poised to line up at right-back for the final two clashes against the Gunners and Swansea.

FA charge Huth and Fellaini

The FA have confirmed that Robert Huth and Marouane Fellaini have been retrospectively charged with violent conduct following an incident in Leicester’s draw with United last Sunday. The pair have until 6pm this evening to reply.

The Scout Says: Should they be found guilty, a three-match ban looks on the cards for both players. This would rule Huth out of Leicester’s final two league matches and the summer’s Community Shield, whilst Fellaini would miss United’s final three league matches before being available for the FA Cup final clash against Palace. Clearly, with a single goal to his name all season, Fellaini’s likely absence would have next to no effect on Fantasy teams, though Huth’s potential ban may well persuade those holding Leicester’s defenders to cash in ahead of double Gameweek 37. Furthermore, with the league already won, there’s the chance that Claudio Ranieri could choose to play with the handbrake off once again after months of grinding out the wins, thus reducing the Foxes’ prospects of clean sheets in the final two fixtures.

Fabregas could face FA charge

Reports from yesterday’s local press suggest that Cesc Fabregas could be in hot water for his alleged involvement in the tunnel fracas at the end of Chelsea’s home draw against Tottenham.

The Scout Says: With three double-figure hauls in seven appearances prior to Monday’s match, the Blues’ midfielder had started to convince he was worth a double Gameweek 37 gamble for trips to Sunderland and Liverpool. A possible suspension for the Spaniard could strengthen Eden Hazard’s case for inclusion after he emerged from the bench to notch a late leveler against Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Guus Hiddink could also choose to hand Ruben Loftus-Cheek more minutes in the central support role before the season is out, though after dropping to the bench in the last two, there’s clearly big question marks over the 4.6-priced youngster’s pitch time. Elsewhere in the Blues midfield, though, Willian has bagged a goal and assist in the last two and, at a cost of 7.0, has remained under the radar in recent weeks with just 7% ownership.

Can steps up Reds recovery

Liverpool’s Emre Can is back in training ahead of the midweek Champions League clash with Villarreal. The German had initially been expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season with an ankle injury but could be in contention for Thursday’s evening’s squad.

The Scout Says: With Can sidelined for the last five league matches, Jurgen Klopp has afforded the likes of Kevin Stewart and Joe Allen more pitch time as he juggles his squad to cope with the busy schedule. Should the German prove his fitness, his return merely adds another name to Klopp’s options in the centre of the park and heightens the idea of rest and rotation – particularly if Liverpool progress past the Spanish outfit. Ahead of Liverpool’s double Gameweek 37 home matches with Watford and Chelsea, the result in Europe may ultimately determine their domestic Fantasy prospects from this point onwards. Lose in midweek and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and James Milner could well benefit if Klopp decides to finish the league strongly. A win, however, is likely to see the current team sheet uncertainty remain, bearing in mind that the Europa League final comes just three days after Liverpool play West Brom in Gameweek 38.

Big Sam hints at tinkering

Ahead of Sunderland’s pair of double Gameweek home matches against Chelsea and Everton, Sam Allardyce admitted he’s likely to make some team sheet alterations to cope with the busy schedule. Bracing himself for a run of three fixtures in eight days, the Black Cats boss went on to say:

“We’ll probably change the side more in these three games than we have done since the turn of the year. The (current side) have played well enough to stay in the team, which causes an under-current of very frustrated players in the squad, The challenge for the frustrated lads is be ready and when you get the chance, grasp it with both hands. If they do that, then they stay in the team”.

The Scout Says: Certainly, with 14 goals to his name it would be a major surprise if Jermain Defoe was amongst those rested to the bench. The 5.3-priced frontman fired eight attempts against Stoke on Saturday and looks far too vital to his side’s prospects of survival to be omitted from the first XI. Looking at Big Sam’s recent substitutions, it seems far more likely than he’ll freshen up on the flanks – Fabio Borini and Wahbi Khazri remain in pole position, though the likes of Duncan Watmore, Dame N’Doye and even Jeremain Lens will all be pushing for inclusion. Allardyce also has a tendency to manage Jan Kirchoff’s minutes – perhaps something to consider for those eyeing up a defence with three clean sheets in five. With regards to the Sunderland backline, then, five-goal Patrick van Aanholt remains the man most likely as the Wearsiders attempt to play their way to safety.

Cazorla handed run out for Gunners reserves

Santi Cazorla stepped up his recovery from a five-month injury lay-off by playing 60 minutes for Arsenal reserves last night. The Spaniard earned an assist in the 2-1 win over Blackburn and was joined by the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Calum Chambers and Serge Gnabry in the starting line-up.

The Scout Says: After returning to the first-team squad as an unused sub in last weekend’s narrow win over Norwich, it seems likely that the importance of this week’s trip to City will ensure Cazorla remains on bench-warming duties as the Gunners look to move six points clear of the Etihad outfit. Whilst Arsenal’s home match against Villa in Gameweek 38 obviously bolsters the armband appeal of Alexis Sanchez, it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will make too many changes to his starting XI on the final day, bearing in mind that the Gunners are currently still in with a shout of overhauling Tottenham in second.

Guys, take a look at this side...

    Gomes
Fuchs - van Aarnholt - Simpson
    Hazard - Payet - Townsend - Lanzini
Aguero - Carroll (TC) - Sturridge

    Hart - Sanchez - Bellerin - Gabriel

Worth one final hit for Simpson > Moreno?

Because of lack of minutes? His replacement is suspended against Watford. Flanagan seemingly out the loop...

Clyne can switch to LB as well. Primarily though because I can't see Pool keeping a clean sheet in either.

Yeah, he can... And I've heard this said... But he's also a first-teamer and candidate for a rest so why rest Moreno by moving Clyne over to the opposite flank?

Take your point on the danger of no CS, but then two games, and some attacking threat.

            I'll think on it...

Not sure about the effectiveness of Clyne moving to LB, but it does give Klopp another option.

I'd be more tempted to play Bellerin, actually, Jossy. I think I will be.

We beat City there last year and there has got to be some rotation / fatigue in it for the City team given the UCL game this week.

Really doesn't seem worth hitting for a defender like Moreno in any case.

That's not a bad point to be fair Individual. I have been burned a number of times not playing Bellerin. Suppose he could score without a CS too, saves me 4 points...

For sure. There really doesn't seem much point in getting Moreno in for what will surely be just a single match.

Well that's the one thing I'd question.

With Brad Smith suspended, he's almost certain to start the easier of the two against Watford, and can't see Klopp playing a seconnd string against Chelsea.

That's true, but Klopp's got options to troll us (Clyne inverted; Flanno; other academy) so I think it's still a doubt for me.

      It's another no from me.

I was planning to play Simpson, but also might switch to an arsenal defender. Bit worrIed about Leicester being out on the fizz, as Big Sam would say!!!

        Thanks Larry.

Think I'm gonna stick too. Bellerin is always a good option anyway, and I'd be doubling up on Leicester defence otherwise, and while I was convinced they'd keep a clean sheet to a poor Everton I now share your fear that they will have been on the lash, as I would say!!!

Can't see Kirchoff being rotated, he's too valuable to the team. Players that may be rotated, in order of most likely are:

    1) M'villa (he looks knackered)
    2) Khazri
    3) Borini

Don't see anyone else missing out at this stage of season. Literally no chance Defoe doesn't play.

          Hey AZ 🙂

I'd keep Gabby now that Mert is probably done for the year - saves you a transfer ahead of the villa game on the final day.

Definitely bring in Cresswell. I think that's where I'm heading, too.

As for other hits the only way you could get those 16 points back is a punt paying off. Perhaps something like doing Kun out for a DGW striker like Defoe to give you that extra edge going into the matchup. This worked for me last week - I was 10 or so behind but took a risk and did Deeney in for Kun, so it can be effective.

        Kane + Delaney + Sakho

        to

        Martial + PvA + Cresswell (-8).

        Gives me 9 DGW players.

        Let battle commence!

Makes sense. Will you be playing Alexis?

I'm in a similar conundrum regarding Kane where I can't quite figure out which one out of Deeney/Martial/Lukaku makes his best replacement.

Currently benching Alexis in favour of Lanzini/Milner but I'm really not sure about either of those 2! Can't really get rid this week though.

I might just go Martial because he's United, I like him and not many other reasons probably 🙂

Martial might get rested in 38 though, and doesn't have the best of stats...

I've just looked at goals conceded from big chances/goals conceded inside box for the opponents of Defoe and Carroll for the period GW 37 & 38.

          One clear winner.

You might want to reconsider getting Martial.

It's just Defoe's conversion rate which worries we though. Fancy Payet over him for triple captain I think.

                  Andy owns Defoe.

I'm trying to point out Carroll's opponents SWAN/MANU/stoke have far worse defensive stats than Defoe's...CHEL/EVE/watf...

So what I'm saying is rather get Carroll over Martial.(not that I've bothered looking at ManU's opponents...)

                    Defoe's opponents are EVE/CHE/WAT

EVE most shots conceded in the box last 4 GW's.
WAT most big chances conceded last 4 GW's.

                    ?? (!)

                      ...no I'm correct...

Looked at actual goals conceded inside box and actual goals conceded from big chances

                      Goals conceded in side box:

                      Defoe = 17
                      Carroll = 23

                      Goals from big chances:

                      Defoe = 12
                      Carroll = 18

Stoke in GW 38 for Westham is the big difference.

It's not long ago we got burned by rotation, and data from earlier season points to more rotation in 37's than earlier 😉

Klopp will field a top lineup vs Chelsea, but looks like the kids & Tekkers vs Watford.
I'd rate the -inos as SGW players vs Chelsea w/an (run) out call option vs Watford

I have a very very slim lead in the ML which can be negated this GW since the chaser has BB over me.
I am thinking of shipping even Kane for Deeney and going all out on DGW'ers and bring a Che mid, but will have to wait for the potential bans for -4... Not happy tho.

I said this last year (and got pretty much shot down but hey ho) that if you'd been canny enough to pick most of the best players overall this season from nearly the start, and not done any changes you'd be sitting on circa 2200 points now, excluding chips played. Pretty darn good return that. (captain mahrez)

        pick that apart

Would be good to see the underlying data but I don't doubt that it's probably true. I bet you like investing in low fee index funds as well. Most of the fun I've had this season came specifically from stressing and researching best possible moves each week and it's got me to 2500 OR. It's also been a real pleasure to follow all the regulars on this site and read all the banter. Feel guilty freeloading off the site since back when I found it in the days of the template debates, but I'm definitely ponying up the cash next season. Maybe FFS should put more of their content behind the paywall next year?

cheers, but it's more or less a done deal, the title celebration has already been planned. Beating Twente last weekend more or less sealed it as losing to De Graafschap is unthinkable.

          --------------Robles------------------
          -----Moreno PVA Cresswell------
          Sanchez Lanzini Payet Hazard
          -------Defoe Aguero Martial-------

          --Darlow Ozil Otamendi Bellerin--

After taking a -12 last week, that's 9 doublers for free this week. I have no chips left. Hopefully the not taking a hit can neautralise the people around me playing their TC.

          A: Good to go

B: Otamendi to Smalling -4 (baring in mind Smalling looks good for a cleanie gw38 too)

For anyone weighing up the Carroll vs. Payet Triple Captain decision...

I've been looking at the stats. Firstly, the players by attacking output and type (e.g. set pieces vs. open play). Secondly, the defences they'll be playing.

          Members tables here:
          Players: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/14205/
          Teams: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/14206/

As expected, there is a clear contrast between Carroll and Payet.
          Carroll (last 6 GW):
          - High frequency of shots on target (roughly 1 per half)
          - ~50% of attempts on the head
          - ~50% of attempts from set plays
          - ~90% of attempts in the 18 yard box
          - 3:1 ratio of goal attempts to chances created

          Payet:
          - High frequency of chances created (roughly 1 per quarter)
          - ~50% of chances created from set pieces
          - 4:3 ratio of chances created to goal attempts
          - 25% of goal attempts from set pieces
          - 50% of goal attempts are individual efforts
          - Only 30% of goal attempts on target

West Ham are playing Swansea and Man Utd in the DGW. They also have contrasting profiles of chances conceded (last 10 GW):

          Swansea:
          - ~25% of attempts conceded from set plays
          - ~20% of attempts conceded from headers

          Man Utd:
          - ~60% of attempts conceded from set players
          - ~25% of attempts conceded from headers

Both Swansea and Man Utd have comparable minutes per chance conceded, but crucially Man Utd have conceded 9 goals over the period whereas Swansea have conceded 17 goals.

Given Swansea are the more defensively frail but also appear better at defending set plays / headers, it may make Payet a more attractive TC option.

Any suggestions on how to improve this analysis welcome!

Yea with the TC. I do hope it comes through... Will have to think on it a little more obviously.

Haha brilliant typo! There is a high risk of concussion when Andy Carroll is involved!

I went for Reid over Cresswell when i WCarded last week.

I feel Reid is due a goal and Cresswell has recently scored so that's him done

          Pick me a striker...

Currently got Kane, Aguero and Defoe.

          A. Do I sell Kane or Aguero?
          B. Who do I buy?

            A. Kane if you absolutely must.
            B. Vardy or Carroll.

Carroll for me seems the best striking option this week.

Kane or Aguero? I'm not sure. I sold Aguero last week but I think he could do ok against Arsenal. I'm not sure what to expect from Spurs now and I'm considering selling Kane also. Might see what happens with Lamela, Dembele etc because they could be hauled up by FA for incidents in Chelsea game. If they are out along with Alli it reduces significantly the creative side of Spurs.

Doesn't that just stay as 0 when you view your opponents until the weekly teams are finalised? Every single team I've viewed so far still appears as 0.

You can see their number of transfers made, plus a quick check on whether they used their FT last GW will tell you how many hits

With a rank of 70k it might be best to have some fun and take some hits?

1 FT. 5.4 in the bank. TC available.

          DDG - Mignolet
Bellerin - Rojo - Morgan (Simpson- Gabriel)
          Lanzini - Mahrez - Coutinho - KdB - Sanchez
          Martial - Defoe - Sturridge

          I'm looking at:
          KDB/Cout -> Payet/Haz
          Simpson -> Cresswell / PvA

I'm about the same (67K)... Wildcarded last week so I can use my TC this week.

Yep, KDB > Payet/Haz (either one is good - I own both) you could sacrifice Mahrez as LEI will be on holiday now)

Simpson > PvA looks a sound transfer

I would switch Rojo to Smalling if I were you. Having Rojo is not wise or fun lol.

I have Carroll instead of Martial

            I've also got Andros.

If you have Lukrapu (haha) I would play him only becuase he has a DGW.
It is a toughie even considering he has an extra game over Sanchez

Key DGW players for this week?
          I’d say:
          Payet
          Carrol
          Defoe

          Who else?

Only Payet out of that list

I like Martial and a Utd defender, possibly also DDG

I can drop 1 for free but how many hits would you take, lose who?
          A) Morgan
          B) Coutinho (count him as a sgw player with those rotation)
          C) Kane
          D) Aguero

          Mignolet
          Cresswell, Simpson, Kirchoff
          Sanchez, Payet(c), Fabregas, Coutinho
          Aguero, Kane, Defoe

          Subs: Robles, Mahrez, Bellerin, TFM
          0FT, 0.2 itb

anything worth a hit? Thinking about Payet TC or Kane> Studge TC after tomorrow's fixture

          Current OR = 67K

Aim is to beat last year's 30K finish.

What is the likelihood of that happening?

Howard has been crap since 2014/15, and Martinez could be gone if he loses too many.
