With Saturday’s matches behind us, we thought we’d drop in and draw your attention to an opportunity to extend your Fantasy Football weekend.

Sky Sports have recently launched a brand new free-to-play game that offers no less than £10,000 in prize money each week.

Fantasy Six-a-Side is an app-based game that’s focused on one of Sky Sports’ live matches. This weekend you can join the game and get involved for tomorrow’s Etihad meeting between Man City and Arsenal.

Fantasy Six-a-Side is simple to grasp but has some pretty neat and unique mechanics.

You start by choosing an “Elite Player” from the handpicked selection that Sky have identified as the key players in the match. For this weekend, you can choose from Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

You then have to complete your six-aside team, filling your five spots from the two clubs: there are no player values, formations or restrictions on the positions you can select.

You then choose a “Power Play” period of the match – during this 15-minute spell, your team will earn double points. There six periods to choose from making up the 90 minutes.

Finally, you need to predict the time of the first goal or “Golden Goal” – this is used as a decider should two or more managers be tied for a cash prize.

Once you’ve confirmed your squad, you can change your lineup right up until Sunday’s four o’clock kick-off.

While the rules are simple, the scoring is reassuringly detailed and based on the Opta data we know so well.

Players earn points for goals, assists and clean sheets as you would expect but this is supplemented by points for match events like successful passes, chances created, tackles, blocks and clearances.

You can get a full rundown of the game’s scoring matrix here.

As mentioned, the game is free and comes with a guaranteed prize of £10,000 and, with only one account per entry, the game isn’t dominated by multi-entrant managers.

If you’re already playing the regular Sky Sports Fantasy Football game then you can use your same login to get started. If not, you can register via the site here or download the IOS app here or grab it via Google Play here.

There’s a full FAQ on the game here.

We’ve got our initial squad sorted and we’ve also set up a Fantasy Football Scout league for tomorrow’s game – the league name is “Fantasy Football Scout” and the PIN is “8023597”.

To join just hit the “Leagues” menu option and select “Join/Create”. From this screen, you’ll be asked to enter the League Name and PIN information provided above. Simply click the ‘Join League’ button to confirm your entry into our League.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The system is biased towards defenders. Daniels got 3 baps in today's 1-1 draw, even though he was involved in nothing of note.

Daniels won 8 out of 8 tackles. That's pretty extraordinary and explains why he gained bonus.

To put that in perspective, the top tackles winner over the last six Gameweeks is Zabaleta with 19 won in 6 starts.

You either take tackles won out of the BPS or we have to accept that Daniels deserved the bonus points.

            I didn't know that, fair enough! 😳

It just seems strange to me that when strikers (like Rondon today) do their job well, but get snubbed because they were dispossessed a few times.

True, but scoring goals and winning points is. Defoe's winner had a much bigger impact than Azpilicueta's performance.

                  • 12 Years
                  9 years, 7 months ago

And Defoe's goal was worth 27 BPS, Azpi's assist was only worth 9 BPS....

If you want it purely results based ditch BPS and maybe just give every player on the winning team 1 bonus point each or give extra points for a goal. IMO games that don't have a bonus point type system lack that little bit of nuance but if you want that purist type of play, there are games like Telegraph FF that will cater to you.

You talk drivel mate, the players who most influence the game should get the BAPS.

If you want that much of an outsized effect on the winning goal then ditch BPS and just give a winning point to the player who scores a winning goal. The fact is there were 5 goalscorers and 3 assisters in that match and even with the winning goal (of which Defoe did get a boost to his BPS score) he was offside/dispossessed enough that that bad side to his performance affected his BPS score.

Have you ever either played or been to a game of football before? Who gives a flying toss whether your centre forward gets dispossessed or caught offside! If he scores the winning goal to save you from relegation then he deserves recognition over a defender who conceded 2 goals, got beat and had has pants taken down all day. That's without even mentioning Kazhri who scored goal of the season, worked his socks off, put tackles in all day and ended up man of the match!

Yeah, I enjoy FPL's bonus system most of the time, my only problem with it is that the value of a vital contribution can't be adjusted based on how the naked eye sees it, so it must reward stat padding performances sometimes. C'est la vie!

I wasn't playing FPL at the time where the man in the stand was in place, but judging from what others have said, the objective system does sound better than a subjective one.

It was deeply flawed. The same individuals covered certain teams and Barry Ferguson and Charlie Adam cleaned up, mainly because they were the favourite of the "man in the stand". It got ridiculous at times - more so than the BPS has done.

At least with the BPS you can check the stats and see why it's awarded.

As above, it's tackles. The players you list there are all amongst the top tacklers in the game. When they rack up numbers like 6-10 tackles won in a match with no stand out attacker, they will get the bonus.

            • 12 Years
            9 years, 7 months ago

Yep, I'm just highlighting its a bit facetious to call it biased to defenders based on these two awards. Over the season bonus points have actually been distributed pretty evenly across the positions.

            Gks: 145 (6.6%)
            Def: 753 (34.1%)
            Mid: 808 (36.6%)
            Fwd: 501 (22.7%)

Gks have been shafted a bit but then they do get extra save points.

The only way people will be happy with the bonus points system is if their players get 3 bonus points every time . The man in the stand system was more flawed imo Ferguson , Arteta , Etherington and Adam were absolute darlings of the man in the stand and got 3 points every time . I severely doubt they will be able to implement a perfect system that will satisfy everyone the odd weird decision does not bother me tbh

I can't deny Defoe won the game for Sunderland, match winning goal should equal 3 bonus points simple as, regardless of the team, winning goal is winning goal.

      BPS is completely ridiculous

Imo the bonus points should be distributed like they award the best player, man of the match. I remember some good games from players like Cazorla earlier in the season but just because everyone wasted his great passes, he ended the game with 2 points.

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

That is what they try to do. IMO it is weighted a bit too much in favour of goals and assists but the BPS system does try to reflect how well a player has played. Cazorla has consistently been one of the highest baseline BPS scorers this season and has had a few occasions where 1 assist would have seen him get 3 bonus points but his lack of involvement has just hurt him that bit too much.

Well even if a defender played well, conceding 3 goals should never result in 3 bonus points tbf. The first job of a defender still is to keep the nets clean

Right and that's why cleanies get rewarded in the BPS system. That said he did get an assist and no player on the pitch was involved in more than one goal.

Fair do's people have explained the baps in detail to me but we have so many anomalies.
Keepers who have nowt to do, defenders who let 3 in, they get baps.
Yet some goalscorers and players who from the naked eye have been the best on the pitch get nothing.
No system is ideal to be fair but this does sometimes make no sense whatsoever

I think the BPS system is good now, besides rewarding players for successful crosses while not taking into account bad crosses that go out of bounds or way over. People like Fuchs take advantage of this while not having many of their crosses lead to actual shots on goal

On Fuchs - his stats today were quite remarkable - 7 chances created, 4 of 5 tackles won, 9 CBI, 9 Recoveries.

Given those numbers, he deserved bonus regardless of Leicester conceding.

Some players are just capable of putting in great numbers and Fuchs is one of those players. We either have to take these stats out of the BPS or accept that Fuchs is a great all-round full-back who will harvest BPS.

            Thoughts so far.
Austria defence looks inviting. Spurs England players. Was going with Randolph as keeper 2 til today!

What's the deal with formations? Do you have to stick once you pick?

“Anthony felt something and I’m a manager who is not taking risks,” van Gaal told MUTV. “Especially not in his situation and I said this to Anthony because he has played most of all the matches, like Daley Blind and Chris Smalling.

“He is 20 years old. I have to take care of him so he didn’t play and Wayne had to play the striker’s position. He gave an assist to Juan Mata and it has been solved very well.”

Van Gaal added “When a player says he feels something, he shall not play. I think you have to be fit – especially in this weather as that is a big difference. We have to see tomorrow (Sunday) if the muscle is tight.”
