After a dramatic final day for all the wrong reasons, the Fantasy Premier League season has been extended following the disturbing abandonment of the Manchester United and Bournemouth encounter.

It means that the situation at the top remains undecided, although from our calculations of the scheduled autosubs, Dimitri Nicolaou has preserved his lead by just a single point.

A member of the Fantasy Football Scout league, Dimitri went into the final day 18 points ahead of Jamie Fitzpatrick and 24 in front of Jack Manners.

While Jamie has fallen away with a disappointing tally of 26, Jack has dramatically closed the gap via his captaincy of Sadio Mane and has collected 57 points after autosubs, with Charlie Daniels yet to play.

It could have been even better: had both Ross Barkley or Aaron Lennon remained on the Everton bench, Jack would have collected an additional seven points from his third benched player, Michail Antonio.

Dimitri has mustered 34 points after autosubs having taken a 4-point hit; he elected instead to play his All-Out-Attack chip which was duly nullified by Philippe Coutinho’s no-show.

It appears that Dimitri remains a point ahead of Jack but with both Chris Smalling and Marcus Rashford left to play in the re-arranged fixture, now confirmed for Tuesday May 17.

Ed Masters, a regular poster under the guise of “Mo Mane Mo Problems” and a full Fantasy Football Scout member, has climbed to third spot at this point.

Ed also captained Mane and produced a superb final day tally of 57 points following a hit; we make it that he’s eight points behind Dimitri with David de Gea still to play.

With the United and Bournemouth fixture to follow, there are still multiple scenarios that could see the top spots shuffle once again.

Louis van Gaal will surely consider playing a weakened lineup against the Cherries given that Manchester City have now sealed fourth spot and with the weekend FA Cup Final in mind.

David de Gea could be the only assured starter as he looks to claim the clean sheet which would see him contest the Golden Glove award with Arsenal’s Petr Cech.

Dimitri, Jack and Ed are currently left waiting on the outcome of Tuesday evening to see how it will fall. Until then, the FPL title remains in limbo.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking from myself as I have martial and lingard but would giving some of the team that is going to play on Saturday a run about tomorrow be wise as if they don't then it will have been over a week and a half of having a game time.

I think some of yesterday's starters will get a run off the bench, you can't wrap them in cotton wool, Cherries won't be in leg-breaking mood and playing is as good as training.

Managed to sneak into top 100k, thankfully for the 12 green arrows for the past 13 GWs.

Looks like 100k rank is just 4 points behind. I have Fosu still to play, if he doesn't then Simpson's 2 points will come on. What am I hoping for here? Martial and Rashford blanks?

Droppped from place 70 to 502 in last 4 weeks while defending the Hungary league title 🙂
Succeeded in my goal to finish top in the country, but would have liked a top 500 finish.

There is a argument to say, that if you'd played with OR in mind rather than "defending" and let's say, for example, you'd have retainned your 70th place or dropped to only 100th, you'd have wonn your Hungary league even more easily.

Well done - great season. The trouble with saying "keep chips until the end" is that you can't generalise. Next year is might be spot on to use them earlier. Having said that, DGWs are more likely towards the end of the season when fixture congestion is probable, so I think it must be right to hang on to these chips until the last third of the season.

Chances of DDG getting a red card? 😉
I was 38 points behind in ML, two hits later + Giroud C i managed respectable 68pts score. He is one point ahead now with DDG and Valencia to play, Valencia for me only.
Other good scenario would be Valencia benched and I get 2pts from Fuchs, DDG yellow or allow over 2 goals in with no saves 🙂

Is this game v Bournemouth actually meaningless in a European League qualification context? What happens if United lose both this match and the FA Cup final?

    1. NABIL - FPL otai
      • 13 Years

United need a point to secure a direct place in next season's Europa League group stage, though they could also earn that with a victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

If United lose at home to Bournemouth, and in the FA Cup final, they would enter the Europa League in the third qualifying round at the end of July.

-taken off ESPNFC.com ..not sure if that's reliable though

guess I should also include the final paragraph..

Any hopes of sneaking into the Champions League are purely mathematical, as United would need to beat Bournemouth by 19 goals to overtake Man City in fourth.

        😆

LVG's failings become stark at that point. Will have the same points as City if they win but are destroyed by goal difference. Biggest issue for United couldn't be more stark. Something the board should consider when looking at next seasons management.

Yes. It's like SAF's worst nightmare that came true few years ago - losing the tile on goal difference. This season, i'ts getting a lot worse.

I personally think Mourinho is not the guy to get for MUN is they want to bring back attacking football brand to OT.

I agree with that point of view. Seems silly to replace a defensive manager (with a possession game) with an even more defensive manager (with no possession game)

I've seen a lot of people dismissing stats. I was the same but towards the end of last season I started taking them more seriously and since then my fpl performance has increased loads.

This season I checked stats before every transfer I made. It ruled out plenty of bandwagons. Guys like Barkley, Martial early season, West Brom defenders, Silva, Yaya and plenty of other popular picks were rubbished by ridiculously bad stats and most of them did indeed plummet.

I say don't dismiss stats, just learn how to use them, or more importantly how not to misuse them.

But watching Moreno he'd have looked a good pick too. Ok a liability defensively but always involved up the pitch.
Watching the matches way better than stats imo but seeing as no one can watch every match then stats are useful

Agree if you watch a team regularly. Like I watch most Southampton games so picked Mane for GW38 based on the eye test.

With most teams you can only see highlights or occassional games though.

As with all things involving probability, its never an exact science and its more accurate when looking at it over a longer period of time. Over the course of the season, if you're consistent with your application of statistical analysis, you should come out better off.

Takes discipline though, I try to look at stats as much as possible but I'd be lying if I said every transfer I made was based on stats. Probably something to work on for next season.

shots in box combined with recent goal conversion (adjusted to be somewhere within realistic boundaries)

shots outside the box combined with a much lower goal conversion expectation

        chances created

        shots in box conceded (team)

They're the main ones I used

Of course. Most people on here who use stats know what to look for. Below are some of the main stats we look at, some are more useful than others, and you'd need to consider whats good for a Defender, striker or midfielder.

        Attacking stats
eg: Shots, Shots on Target, Shots inside the box, Penalty box touches, created chances, crosses

        Defending stats
Shots inside box conceded, big chances conceded

I said to Jarvs yesterday give or take a word

Willfully dismissing information, whether its numbers on a page or what you can see with your eyes is opening yourself up to horrendous biases. Stats are just an aid to be used in opinion forming and decision making, alongside what you see on the pitch and what the manager says in interviews.

And how did you finish that season?

Im asking this cause I think that I have never even was in top 500k in gw1 in 4 years playing FPL

What lessons are we taking into next season?
The big one for me is to be more dullard. I'll always be on the maverick side of the coin (Bolasie tc 😆 😆 ) but too many of these low percentage plays has left me miles back and I've learnt that whilst vardy kane etc might be boring moves it's way more fun than being 400 points off the pace

Agreed! I'd be top 1k if I didn't hold off getting Toby/Smalling/Alli after they have risen quickly by over 0.5, thinking they were overpriced. Was too dullard to take hits and there was always a more critical use of my FT.

Consistency is the key to winning, you can afford a few blips just not to many, I peaked at 230 OR and I could taste it, I felt I was in with a shot but bad luck struck (3 pool and hits) and I knew my shot was gone.
My formula for next year (same as most years)
      - keep ahead of the curve
      - research/watch players
      - Nail (c) as often as possible
      - build TV
      - be aware of ownership
      - keep an eye on players scores on Fpl page
      - avoid hits in general
      - focus on your own team, not those around you.
      - do the simple things quickly and efficiently.

But it's true, this applies to bandwagons, loss of form, good/bad Fixtures on the horizon-you need to do your homework and be smart about it!

Yeah, agreed. I think watching games is the key for me. I always tend to do better second half because I've seen more teams play.

Need to try and watch pre-season games in their entirety!

Tbf all you can do is apply logic to it, you know the drill-Form/Fixture/stats are the best indicators we have, all you can do really is go with this RH.

My main one I think is don't dick about on short-term options.

Gestede, Bony, Bolasie, and Barkley were all short term moves I made to coincide with good fixtures while ignoring mega-wagons like Vardy and Ozil. Okay 3 of them rewarded me with almost immediate double-digit hauls, but the cost of them was missing out on about £3m in extra Team Value and extra transfers down the line to correct these short term moves.

Cheers Nabil, i saw a Strawpoll 7-1 in favour of Tadic over Manè and I resisted the masses vote in favour of gut instinct which has served me well this season.
Another point on 'others teams' - I can honestly say if I looked at their teams 4/5 times over the season that would be a lot. Play your own game your own way.
Granted in a mini with a few weeks to go of its tight you gotta be mindful then.

Well above average, helped my Bellerin and my Mane signing (which never would have happened had Payet not got injured and I'd been forced to take a hit).

Tied up both cash MLs, earning me around £500! 😀

Unfortunately didn't quite make the top 10k... 10.8k, with only a 2 point autosub to come

Wish I didn't have three Arsenal, as I'd have deffo bought Giroud (although I'd have never captained him over Sanchez).

Yeah, I was fuming that Townsend got nothing from 5 goals, especially when I saw the way he rattled the crossbar.

Haven't seen the Arsenal highlights yet, but I take it Sanchez could have been inn the points himself? Could have made all the difference those two.

Great season for you mate! Well done. can't wait till next year now... 🙁

I hate to break this but its unlikely you will break it without Smalling attacking returns.

There's an average 1.4 Man U players left in the top 10k with 0.9 of them being defenders. Then there's also about 3 autosub points per person like yourself.

Regardless, congratulations on a very impressive rank 🙂

Anyone else feel Utd/Bou should be made play the team they had submitted to the referee?

As it lowers their chances in the cup, yes

Tbf it's an unusual scenario, it has now become a nothing game and possibly devalues the EPL even more tho to be balanced weakened sides are the norm now.

would devalue the cup even more if man u turned up knackered, besides injuries illness form mood can all change in 2 days
