Our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, continues this evening with an assessment of Everton.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Toffees’ team data, comparing them to the rest of the top-flight, before analysing their first-team squad, key goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

The Merseysiders will, of course, have a new man in charge after Ronald Koeman replaced Roberto Martinez in the hotseat. Everton finished in eleventh spot in each of the Spaniard’s final two campaigns at the helm, accruing 47 points on both occasions, though a drop in resilience saw them concede 55 times in 2015/16 – a defensive record only better than the bottom five.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

All Alfred Hitchcocks are great, and the ones people recommended here.

Assuming you watched the classics like Godfathers, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Usual Suspect, Reservoir dogs, Taxi driver, American History X, Fargo, Once upon a time in America etc, I will add some less common ones:

      Road to Perdition
      Jackie Brown
      Lucky Number Slevin
      True Romance
      The counterfeiters
      Sicario
      Departed
      Prisoners
      Changeling
      In Bruges
      Seven psychopaths
      All of Guy Ritchie's

Oh man, there are so many!

Didn't Bertrand take them at Soton as well? So Koeman has history of left backs taking pens..

Bertrand only took one and Koeman wanted him to take it for some motivation or gratitude I think. It was Tadic who took pens there.

The marketing value of getting FPL right and growing it is probably more valuable than the cash intake from UFPL.

        This.

I think they thought it would be hugely popular and a real money spinner but that did not come to pass.

Would you know at close of game how many player there were total registered and paid in?

          • 12 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

I think it was about 25k players so about £100k made after prizes paid out but before running costs are taken into account. Its not a sum to be laughed at but there's a definite opportunity cost to running two games rather than one.

            • Fantasy Football Scout Member
            • 13 Years

I'd say they scrapped because they operated on a loss.

£100k isn't an awful lot of money. That would barely cover the annual salary of a few extra members of staff let alone taking any other costs into account.

Was approx 26000. But interest was keen amongst many to play in the new season .They did not lose on the game. Like any new business you hang tough in the early years, and the fruits will appear. Really wimpish from the powers that be

      2. Debauchy
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Yep, but UFPL was in incubation stage . Every UFPL player played FPL game. They had nothing to lose keeping up the parallel

Maybe they didn't think there was enough profit in it. What was the prize pool. 100k? I think there were about 20k+ players or something. I'm probably wrong on the figures, but if they are anywhere near that then the profit margin will be quite small.

          1. Debauchy
            • 12 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

Yeah , 26000 or so - so 130,000. Small profit , but hell , hang on a little , interest was certainly gathering. Never heard of a new company throwing in the towel after breaking even in the formative years

Aye, it does smack of them throwing in the towel before giving it a proper run. Surely it was only going to grow. They just couldn't be bothered to wait, maybe.

          • 12 Years

Development costs, server costs, opportunity cost of expanding FPL. What do the PL prefer for their website, growing FPL by 300,000 players or UFPL by 10,000 players?

Everything seems so much easier when you have a good start to the season - lots of points, lots of price rises, no need to WC, other punters taking hits. And then there's my start, usually 15 points below par.

i'm hoping it's just a season where the true players succeed better, and the casuals rot for not being addicted to it like us lot haha!

Last season., Casuals had it easy to get whoever they wanted.., budget was never an issue. I think many of us manager will be scratching our heads when all the big players start performing unlike last season.. actually many of us are already scratching.. haha. But rekon budget goona play a big part as most players (who where cheap) are due a hefty price tag.

Thing is, people investing less time on the game (I don't call them Casuals), were just playing their own game of chasing points and that succeeded. It was us who invest so much time into the game, we were stubborn because we assured ourselves that the heave priced players would start banging them in.

I take each week on its merits , rarely follow one religiously. Have a number of methods of selecting them but there was nothing of interest last weekend. Been on a good run recently. You follow any yourself ?

Yeah , but im in SA . We get betting and coverage on UK racing too though. I used to follow religiously , but nowadays more of a casual interest, Have shares in 2 horses here , but no great shakes y

Used to watch SA racing in the bookies on Saturday mornings . Horse ownership is fun but not profitable. Think I mentioned before that I had a share in one . Now just have a share in a greyhound which isn't actually any good ( also had a share in a pretty decent one who retired 6 months ago).

lol. Me too whenever I was in the Uk , pop into bookies for the early races. Yeah had a lot of fun over the years. Now just feel obliged to give a little support to ex Trainers son , who is battling a bit. Bear in mind owning horses here is a lot cheaper than in the UK.

First time in a UK bookies , found it rather overwelming, horses dogs horses dogs , people frantically scribbling out tickets, lol was quite an experience. We have caught up a little though over the years , racing from Aus in the mornings , local, UK , Ireland and France and then US racing later . Too much for me .

There are so many who will bet on just about anything. I have quite an involved system for selecting horses that is time consuming but worth it in the long run.

Im also very selective these days. Did sort of read between the lines with your "offerings" . Played small and on the day profited more from yours than mine, hence the interest , lol.

Anyone tempted to go for duff players rather than the favourites? It Always seems to get the better of me every year, I put in aguero, Sanchez, hazard, Kane and then they do nothing for 6 weeks, explode for a fortnight and then go back to 6 weeks of nothing! I'd rather chance it and have money spare in the bank!
