Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Manchester United.

First up, we cast an eye over the Red Devils team statistics and compare them to the rest of the Premier League in Louis van Gaal’s final season at the helm, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects under new manager, Jose Mourinho.

United ended the 2015/16 campaign in fifth position after racking up 66 points and were just nudged into the Europa League slots by rivals Man City on goal difference alone.

Whilst the Dutchman’s defence proved a handy source of Fantasy returns, the same can’t be said for United’s attack – they found the net on just 49 occasions, which was one more than Sunderland and down on their tally of 62 strikes in 2014/15.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

This is the first day i've actually been waiting on FPL to open and no sir, I don't like it. Those that've been waiting for 2 weeks must be beaten men.

Anyway all I know is i'm going for Mkhitaryan unless his price is ridiculous, 2 United defenders and a Chelsea

With Ings looking lively in pre-season, is he likely to get plenty of premiership game time....and maybe ahead of Origi?

Now I hope FPL will open only 3 days before the season starts, lots of 'casuals' will miss GW1 🙂

Every season, tons of 'casuals' who pick team in GW1,2 then leave it whole season but still finish in top 5k, 10k 😀

Here are my ‘back of an envelope’ scribblings so far while waiting for FPL to launch...

I finished just outside top 3k last year so trying to beat that this year! I basically have half a team so far. Any advice on cheap strikers (6m ish range) and cheap playing defenders (4.5m) appreciated.

Can’t really see how we are going to fit Aguero AND Ibrahimovic into our teams?? Not possible surely without major sacrifice elsewhere assuming they are both 11m/12m.

    GK 4.5 VALDES
GK 4.5 another cheap rotation striker – Heaton/Robles/Foster??

    DEF 6 MCY KOLAROV?
DEF 5.5 TOT WALKER/ROSE but could be 6m
DEF 5.5 MUN SHAW/DARMIAN but could be 6m
DEF 4.5 cheap rotation pair tbc promoted team?
DEF 4.5 cheap rotation pair tbc promoted team?

    MID 10 Mhkitaryan or Hazard??
    MID 8 ERIKSEN
    MID 7.5 SIGGY
    MID 7 TOWNSEND
MID 5.5 cheap 5th mid mainly to be benched

    FWD 12 AGUERO
FWD 9 mid price striker – Benteke/Lukaku etc?
FWD 6 One of the promoted strikers?

Yeah I'll be going with a similar team structure. Kun + Ibra means a weak midfield and there's a ton of great midfield options in this year in the mid-priced and premium brackets. KDB, Sanchez, Ozil, Hazard, Mkhitaryan, Payet, Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Eriksen, Alli, etc.

IMO, Valdes will be 5, Hazard will be 10.5, Aguero will be at least 13, Eriksen will be 8.5

Yep agree, especially with Conte/Italian style defending and clean sheets. Azpilicueta? Then who would you turf out from MCY, TOT and MUN defenders? MCY and TOT have good starts and MUN have Mourinho who will also have a drilled defence.

        Will prob pick Hazard.

What's the point guessing prices?? I hope Valdes is 4.5 but I reckon he could be 5, Aguero will be £13m again I reckon, he's not gonna drop by £1m after being 2nd top scorer last season

Yeah I'm in Scotland. Buy a roasting joint and cut into strips. Cure it for a few hours in salt and brown sugar, then marinade overnight in fridge in cider vinegar/malt vinegar mixture. Then pad it dry and season with black pepper and crushed coriander seeds. Hang with plastic coated paper clips on a rack in a fan oven on just "light bulb" setting (ie no heat). Keep door ajar about an inch. It's usally ready after about 10 hours of drying.

very importantto use plastic coated paperclips as metal apparently can react with the meat. Also make sure strips aren't touchign each other as it can go rancid then.

            That sounds tremendous.

Tell you what might be worth doing is buy some biltong spices from a SA online shop in the UK. If you feel like mixing it up a bit. Some great flavours out there.

But as they say, your own biltong is always the best biltong, bit like mums cooking.

Ps have cut & pasted you technique, will give it a go one day.

Biltong is dried meat usually beef but various types of game is common.
My family and just about everyone loves it but It has never really appealed to me.
Meat is pretty cheap compared ro uk but after it is dried it works out pretty expensive.

    This season's Dalli Ali?

Who are the young players set to explode onto the scene this season. 12 months ago not many of us were thinking of Alli but now he is a fixture and was even in some people's Euros fantasy teams, really emphasising his rise. Here are my suggestions but would love to know what others think, especially from the club they support:

    Tottenham - Onomah

    West Brom - Leko

    Everton - Davies, Dowell

    Sunderland - Watmore

Southampton -Redmond (If he counts in this category)

Do you mean explode from a FPL perspective or in general? I think Gray at Leicester is going to have more game time and he's going to show his potential. I think Barkley is going to improve even more from last year and Iwobi will have to be monitored.
Chillwell, i don't know, too soon maybe. Deulofeu could improve with Koeman and Iheanacho could explode even more.

Hopefully we'll see a bit of Davies and Dowell from Everton although not enough to make them fantasy options I fear. Pennington is another but if they sign a CB he won't get much game time. They've got another little lad called Walsh that they are raving about. People saying it's like watching Paul Schoes 🙂 He's another season away though apparently.

Worst Coup attempt in history of the world. The timing, the was its been organized and run was ridiculous. I certainly do not hate Erdogan, nor love him. He has done some tremendous things but also some cases he completely messed up. Essentially, I'm very happy coup failed and brought people together even if they had different beliefs in politics.

It is hardly a surprise what it more surprising is the fact it has taken them this long to discover it.

Unfortunately Fifa won't do anything about the World Cup as it is completely unrelated even though Russia bought it then destroyed all the evidence. Can't see too many people flocking to watch the games as you will end up getting a good kicking

not from FPL point of view which teams you would like to see doing well this season? I would love to see Liverpool up there, because I really like Klopp, that's just my favourite type of coaches. Also Leicester, to prove that it wasn't just one season wonder. Saints, because that's just so out of the box, they sell players, they get new good ones, so to see them continiue that would be nice, even this season it looks like it's going to be really tough to keep up the level.

there seem to be many good striker options and many Aguero alternatives in city's squad..... thinking that KDB or even Nolito might provide enough value combined with freeing up a precious striker slot

Only if Ibra + KDB costs significantly less than Aguero + Mkhity will u even consider dropping Aguero
