We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

    Does anyone know if you will be able to filter a mini league by quarter as has been the case in previous seasons? I run a cash league at work and we usually have a Manager of the quarter prize.

          7pts difference between Lamela and Eriksen is a decent trade off if it means you can upgrade a crappy 5.5m mid to a 7.0m.

            am set on

            Boro defence, Kone, Souare, Shaw, Mkhi, Firmino, Kun, Costa

            I like Townsend but I am waiting to see who Palace buy up top

            Everton have nice fixtures but Lukaku with Kun and Costa seems overkill and the mids are a minefield

    Hey, is it still somehow possible to drag and drop teams on the season ticker, like it used to be? Those up and down arrows are incredibly clumsy. I already lost my nerve with them.

      No, it is a major downgrade IMO. Being able to drag and drop was the most useful feature of the ticker.

        Yeah, probably the one I used the most too. It made it easy to plan the rotations. I can't take the pain of doing it with these arrows they now use. You can't even serial click on them, because the arrow changes place after every click.

        It got on my nerves so badly that now I'm already set to wait for someone to come up with a useful spreadsheet on rotations pairs/triples, rather than to try to look for rotations myself.

      Unfortunately not. It's lost much of it's functionality. I liked the little preview when you click the fixtures but that's gone too.

      But we can sort by rotation... which is nice.

        It's sort of nice, but I found it quite insufficient. I like to tweak the rotations myself and that's just too painful with the current tools.

      Way too much money upfront, especially with Costa possibly going back to Atletico. I also think Jakupovic is a terrible choice, horrible fixtures and with Foster you'd want someone who can rotate a little.

    There are the 8 teams that I think are worth investing in defence at the start and their best options:

    CHE: Azpi or Terry if 0.5 matters
    EVE: All of them are really right choices, you can't be wrong
    LEI: Morgan as he seems the fittest and most nailed on. Wouldn't want to give another 0.5 for Fuchs
    MCI: Otamendi until we sign another RB/LB.
    MUN: Shaw is likely to be very offensive, so he is a bargain at 5.5
    MID: Friend is budget friendly and nailed on.
    SOU: Fantastic home fixtures for them. Cedric is fantastic option for 5.0, I am just not sure if he will be ready for the start as played in the final of EURO. Maybe it's too much to spend 5.5 on Van Dijk and Bertrand although they can earn some attacking points.
    WBA: Evans for 4.5 is nice, tho Dawson with his attacking potential is tempting for 5.0. Also, he could be swaped for Brunt when he is fit.

                    You kiddin? All nailed on, Emnes and Hennings cheap as sheet and with good first few fixtures, Balotelli with Coutinho, Firmino and Mané behind him in the Klopp team that is going to dominate the league. And it allows me to go all premium on def and midfield. What's not to like?
