We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

    DDG / Jaku

    Martial / Hazard / Townsend / Siggy / 4.5
Aguero / Long / Benteke (presuming he moves to CPL)

    First draft, pretty happy

Not worth having as a mid, majority of the points it show him as having got last season were from clean sheets. Hopefully a few casuals don't realise this and go for him.

Scoring for FPL doesn't include hits for GW score. In GW1, scores are 100% correct as no hits.

Excuse my stupidity but my ML has a best GW score prize, how is the scoring trickier with the new site?

I got the score before the update etc. A best GW score could involve hits and not be the best score. Not sure if you guys look at that when working it out. It's even worse in the monthly leagues where hits in the 1st week of the month haven't counted. Hopefully the new site have fixed it but it's very doubtful.

Aha, ok, sort of swings in favour of the best GW score if it stays the same, it's a prize for those who aren't challenging in the league, we don't subtract hits. Either way 🙂

Noted, but you'd be surprised, even with a wildcard it's a really difficult price to win. In the end the 2nd place league finisher won it last season for GW34, he hadn't wildcarded and had a mix of double and single gameweekers...

Fair enough, but if you recall, a lot of us who ditched out SGW players got punished in the run-up to and during that DGW. Not playing his WC may have helped him.

Anyway, it's your league, Just my thoughts.

Absolutely, that was my meaning, that it's a difficult prize to win especially considering the unpredictability of results. It's one we monitor closely anyway.

Been on the FPL website since 11 this morning and I'm still not happy with my team. Got to stop doing this to myself.

Watford's fixtures are horrendous to start with. I like your team otherwise though, very balanced.

Not sure Batshuayi starts from the get go. Rest looks good

Is Mandanda sure to start over Hennessey? Considering how good he performed in the Euros

Mandanda got keeper of the year in the french league last season, and I doubt that Palace would have paid 1.5M for another reserve keeper. So I hope the answer is guaranteed starter, that's the way it looks.

See my comment below. I think Mandanda will be first choice - he would be France's number one if it wasn't for Lloris, plus Hennessey was pretty ropey in the PL last season, especially towards the end.

Who would you go with at that price? Valdes? Heaton?

this might be shot in they dark but do we know anything about who will start out of Mandanda/Hennessey for Palace?

Tempted to cover their def with Dann/Ward in case of rotation or picking the wrong one. I assume they will share friendly games pre season which won't help at all.

Don't see someone like Mandanda leaving Marseille, where he was first choice, to sit on the bench at Palace. Hennessey was ropey at best last season, would expect Mandanda to be first choice.

Silva & Siggy over KDB & Snodgrass right?

      Correct.

Not for me. Silva's form and injuries would concern me. Siggy's a decent shout but Snodders isn't heavy enough. I'm a big KGB fan but I'm not sure if he'll start week 1.

I think the real question there is who to replace Snodgrass and paid with KDB

Haven't checked everything yet but was thinking to go with something like this:

    5.5 4.0
    6.0 5.5 5.0 4.5 4.0
    Mhki Hazard Townsend 6.5 4.5
    Aguero Lukaku 6.5

Does this look like a good structure? Some decent shouts at 6.5 for that striker spot. The 5.5 gk and 6.5 + 5.5 defender allow me to go with Chelsea City and Manu defensive cover as well. Avoiding Arsenal for now

I'm not convinced Martial is a better pick over Mkhitaryan. I don't think Martial will be nailed on.

Moo favours the players he brings in over the players he inherits. Plus Martial is only 20-years old compared to 27 for Mkh. And I'm not sure about Martial's defensive hustle, something Moo demands.

    Both are 9.5

Why wouldn't Martial be nailed. Depay is off the mark by a lot.

Mkhitaryan openly criticised Klopp over his methods and training, this was regarding being 'held back' because he was asked to work hard and defend. Make of it what you will.

if Mou plays 4-3-3 Martial will be on the left wing.
If Mou plays 4-2-3-1 Martial will play on the left
If Mou chooses 4-4-2 (highly unlikely) he can play him up top.

Either way, he starts. And he is dynamite

Didn't see the game at all but from what I can gather on Twitter it seems Antonio at right back was at fault for both the oppositions late goals in West Hams 2-2 draw.

"one of the best right-backs in the league" lol. He's a god damn winger, let him play forward and score goals.
