Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Sunderland.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Wearsiders’ team statistics under Sam Allardyce and compare them to both the rest of the Premier League and the first eight Gameweeks prior to the departure of Dick Advocaat. After that, we then delve into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

After picking up three points – thanks to a trio of draws – in the opening eight Gameweeks, Advocaat’s decision to quit the club saw Big Sam appointed at the helm. The former West Ham boss took a while to steady the ship, though, and helped stave off the threat of relegation by embarking on a run that saw his side lose just twice in the final 14 league fixtures to finish two points ahead of the drop zone.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Heaton (Foster)
    Shaw Stones Friend (4.5 4.0)
    Mkhitaryan Firminio Siggy Townsend (4.5)
    Aguero Ibra Negredo

If Bentekkers signs for Palace I will change Townsend & Negredo for Fishcher and Tekkers.

    Thoughts?

I don't see Mahrez in a lot of RMT's, no one fancies him? Their first 3 fixtures (hul,ARS,SWA) are quite nice and personally I don't want to look beyond those 3 yet ( international break and transfer deadline after that). The other premium midfielders appeal a bit less to me ( apart from Miki or Martial). Ozil just back from Euro's, KDB the same, Hazard the same Liverpooll tough fixtures.. Thoughts..?

I'll have one midfielder at 9.5 and it's between Payet, Mahrez and Ozil for me. Waiting to see what happens with Ozil and Payet following Euros.

100% nailed on in my team. Fancy him to start as he finished against Hull.
Like you say, an early wildcard is probably on the cards, so my initial team will be based on the first few weeks.

    Thoughts on this 1st RMT:

    Foster – Heaton
    Azpi – Shaw – Walker – McAuley – 4.0
    Mkhitaryan – Firmino - Siggy - Bojan – Albrighton
    Aguero – Diego Costa – A. Hernandez

    ?

"Gazzetta leaks that the player will receive 20% of fee.
So Manchester United would pay 100m€ to Juve, 20m€ to Pogba, 25m€ to Raiola"

How does one become a football agent? Why the f does this guy get 25 MILLION €? Did he make something? Does he have great footballing or any other skills? I dont get it.

Let me state that I don't watch Juventus a lot. Have caught the odd champions league game here and there over the last few seasons.

I did watch France in the Euros and the last World Cup. So maybe I have seen a full 10-12 matches including Pogba so not a very large scale to work with but I have never seen him have a good game.

His goals and assists ratio is okay at best. I just don't see the hype.

Considering Ronaldo has scored more league goals for Real Madrid than he has played games I wonder what his valuation would be if he was in his early to mid 20's?

Pogba dominates the midfield. He is not a scorer, thus the stats are not sensational. He is similar to Yaya, with his box to box dominance. He is worth every penny, in this highly inflated market.

Not worth every penny at all, 40 million is what he's actually worth id say. Great player, not elite at the minute but has all the attributes to become elite

But who are you to evaluate footballers and what is that evaluation even based on?

I also don't rate him that highly. Sure he's a good player, and young enough to improve, but for me he's not in the top tier yet

145 million euros disagree 🙂 He's a world class player in his position, no doubt about it.

oh yeah, I know many will disagree. Quoting the prices isn't the best gauge tho. A few years ago Denilson went for a world record price, and he was rubbish.

Pogba is incredible. George Best didn't score all that many but that wasn't the biggest part of the game.
                And Ronaldo is a forward.

It's just the amount of money involved. I remember Andy Cole joined United for 6 million and thinking wow that's a lot of money.

There's a lot of money everywhere now in football, its the modern way. £36m for Mane, £20+ for Berahino...

What do we think about Joe Allen joining Stoke? With Ireland and Affelay out will he slot right in? How will it affect everyone's FPL choices?

Not bad. I don't trust chelsea enough to invest in JT, but it could be a still at 5.5. I like Milner as another 6.5 mid, and I would replace gray with long.

No idea if Origi will actually start so maybe downgrade your 6.5 mid to a 4.5 and upgrade. Also need to watch Cedric and Rodriguez on the pre-season with a new manager. Good home games, tough away games.

Mori is too risky IMO, and Milner? Ship them two for Baines and maybe Bojan?
