Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Sunderland.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Wearsiders’ team statistics under Sam Allardyce and compare them to both the rest of the Premier League and the first eight Gameweeks prior to the departure of Dick Advocaat. After that, we then delve into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

After picking up three points – thanks to a trio of draws – in the opening eight Gameweeks, Advocaat’s decision to quit the club saw Big Sam appointed at the helm. The former West Ham boss took a while to steady the ship, though, and helped stave off the threat of relegation by embarking on a run that saw his side lose just twice in the final 14 league fixtures to finish two points ahead of the drop zone.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone contemplating Mahrez or Vardy? Yes they had big jumps in price but even if they had a drop of 40-30 points they'd still be worth their price tags.

I am going to see how pre-season goes but I can't see Leicester or Mahrez/Vardy having anywhere near the impact they had last season plus they have the champions league this season.

Whys that Bemba? Suppose the point i'm trying to make is that people get so hyped about a jump in price they overlook what they get for that. Kane last year was a great example.

Vardy is currently in mine. On pens, lead striker for the league champions, great fixtures. He could damage a few rankings GW1...

He's the unfashionable choice around these parts I think, easy to get drawn do Zlat but Vardys consistency last season was incredible. He didnt exactly look out of place in an england shirt either.

Currently have Mahrez in my initial team. Has a few nice fixtures early and as we all know, class player. Yes, pricier than last year for sure but still could be good value imo

Berbs your boys were good from an attacking perspective first half last night before multiple subs second half. Mane , Coutinho , Firmino interchanged very well and from an attacking perspective looked very dangerous. Mooy for Huddersfield ( on loan from Man C ) was best player on the pitch first half IMO. Why City have loaned him out I don't know as I could easily see him having an outstanding season in the PL. Ings will surely be on the way out , Klopp was exceptionally frosty towards him. Did you go btw ?

Yeah mate caught the game yesterday and was impressed by both sides in the first half to be honest. I think Ings will be a squad player, we just have players who are a notch above him.

I didn't go yesterday. However, I'll be going to Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea away + United home in the first 10 weeks. 🙂

Judging by the frostiness between them I maybe wrong but think Ings could be on his way.Your fans were magnificent and your goalie upfront second half cherished every moment ! I think Huddersfield will do well in the championship - a lot of new faces but no lack of ability. Got to say Klopp is a breath of fresh air . Liverpool will be good to watch and I hope you enjoy your trips to see them. Also many thanks for your tables - obviously a lot of work went into them.

      1. Berahinio (if he moves to stoke)
      2. Wilson
      3. Long
      4. Austin

If Berahino doesn't get the move he will be dead last on that list. I feel like Wilson could be the bargain of the year, given he started last season on fire before his injury. Most probable be priced around 8m this season if it wasnt for the injury

    stuck between Vardy and Lukaku.
Vardy is someone who I feel like could start off with a bang against Hull, and everyone will try bring him in, while at the same time Lukaku just seems like so much value at 9m. Last season Lukaku started the season on fire, and he's only gonna get better at age 23. Especially with Koeman taking over, I feel like Lukaku may actually be the better option because it also leaves 1m in the bank for me to upgrade hazard to kdb or something else after watching the first gw...

    Thoughts??

Zeki Fryers not being added to FPL is really annoying. Have a feeling we could have had a 4.0m OOP playing defender in him

Pardew likely to line up like this imo with an attempt to play some sort of 3 at the back formation. Puncheon/ Townsend could go wide to the RW with Cabaye coming into the team in place of Mutch (in a 3-4-3-maybe). Either way, Fryers has been very impressive at LWB and offers so much more than Souaré imo, definitely one to keep an eye on if he's added in.

    ----------------------- Mandanda ----------------------
    ------- Ward -------- Tomkins -------- Dann ------
    Mutch --------------- Jedinak --------------- Fryers
    ---------- Puncheon ------------- Bolasie ----------
    ------------ Townsend --------- ??? -----------------

If that striker is Benteke I'd be

Both could be good picks then. Perhaps the one more advanced would be better.

      Wow, yeah.

But he could be LB, and Brunt could remain the man 🙂

I think Schlupp would be better as the winger, more pace

If you are not going for Zlatan, are you doubling on Mkh and Martial?

Martial would've had nearly 170 points last season if he was a midfielder, assuming baps wouldn't change that significantly.

    Decent.
