We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Swansea City’s progress under new manager Francesco Guidolin.

First off, we check the Swans’ team statistics from the point of the Italian’s appointment in Gameweek 23 and compare them to the previous numbers under former boss Garry Monk as well as the rest of Premier League. We’ll also analyse their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Welsh club were quick off the mark last time out, drawing against Chelsea and beating Man United in the opening four rounds of fixtures. That early-season form was short-lived, though, and, by the time of Monk’s departure, they sat just a single point ahead of the drop zone after winning one of his final 11 league encounters at the helm.

Guidolin’s impact was immediate. Starting with a 2-1 triumph at Everton on his debut, he steered the club to seven wins in the final 16 matches, compared to five victories in 22 beforehand, in a run that ultimately saw them finish 12 points clear of the bottom three.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Which one to downgrade?

    Dawson to McAuley/Evans
    Ashley Williams to Fernandez/Taylor

    Valdes (Jaku)
    Shaw Stones Soare (Evans Kone)
    Mkhitaryan Firminio Siggy Townsend (Hoj)
    Aguero Zlatan Wilson

If Benteke signs for Palace I will bring him in for Wilson and do Townsend to Gradel,

    Thoughts??

Arsenal has signed Rob Holding from Bolton for an undisclosed fee romoured to be around £2m. The defender is a versatile who can be deployed both in CB and RB.

    Hello Chambers 2.0.

In other news I read somewhere that Cazorla is a doubt for the Liverpool game with a minor achilles problem.

many on here, including me, are not keen on RMTs

          They are endless on FFS.

It is also pretty pointless 3 weeks away from the start of the season. So much will change.

You might find it better to ask questions of the community, if you have a dilemma about your defence or formation etc.

Personally I never do a RMT as I wouldnt want someone copying my team

All RMTs are 100% opinion tbh but...

      Goalkeepers: 1/1
Defence: 1/1 - Too expensive for me, but it's hella strong...
Midfield: 4/4 - Balance is great.
Attack: 2.5/4 - I like 3 quality strikers personally, and it'll be tough to bring in the likes of Vardy/Costa/Sturridge without a hit.

    How does this look?

    Foster / Valdes
    Shaw - Matip - Pieters/Friend/Souare
Firmino - Hazard - Lamela - Ibe (Watson)
    Aguero - Ibrahimovic - Wilson

I really fancy (ohh la la) Matip doing well, gonna score some goals I reckon.

    1. Jamie_GAWA
      • 9 Years

Very nice, Lamela is very punty and Gradel is better than Ibe IMO. Double BOU is very risky.. Maybe do Wilson> Long.

Matip isn't good value for 5.5 imo

      1. Dacra
        • 11 Years

Yeah you're probably right, one of Wilson or Ibe will change..

I think I'm alone with the Matip love, scored around 1 in 10 matches for Schalke in the league in past 5 seasons, would be decent for 5.5.

Dunno how much he'll play, think Liverpool will go with 2 of Henderson/Can/Grujic most games.

KDB or Ibra more essential for the start of the season?

Think I will go with one, but having both plus Aguero kills my team. Edging with the former, as it allows for a premium midfield replacement at a later point.

        tricky one

I am avoiding both at the moment reluctantly

As everyone has Aguero I would think more would be tempted to go for Zlatan but in saying that I think there are better options in midfield for Utd.

I had sort of settled on Mkhi, Aguero and KDB. Cover all bases if you like. But the Kagawa theory has me worried re: Mkhi 😉

Think it's very much luck of the draw as to who hits the ground running and whether you own them, which is why I'm tempted to go with tried and tested.

Nice team KOL, but lose Gabriel for sure, you don't want to start the season off with a potential non starter.

You could upgrade Gab to Baines and then get Morrison instead as a 5th choice mid?

Otherwise i'd pick Gradel and go for someone like PVA in defense instead of Gab.

like it. though would downgrade one of the 5.5s to a 4.5 myself.

also, what makes you pick the more expensive townsend over bolasie? won't bola be playing more centrally behind the striker and thus be a better option?

      Gabriel > Mori / Jags?

I don't like the rotating 5.5s in midfield. What about Erikson > Lamela and upgrading one of them?

Not sure on Lamela tbh. Will keep an eye on Spurs but I fancy Eriksen to have a great season.

      *Stretches fingers*

      Goalkeepers: 0/1 - Too expensive
Defence: 0/1 - Too expensive for me
Midfield: 4/4 - Midfield is very strong! I'd maybe downgrade a little to make use of the great value 7.5m mids.
Attack: 1/4 - I like 3 quality strikers personally, and it'll be tough to bring in the likes of Vardy/Costa/Sturridge without a hit. Two weak striker is just suicide imo. But Aguero, so +1

Still not enough info for me. Need some Brunt news tbh. But

          Foster - Jakupovic
          Shaw - Brunt - Francis - Wollscheid - Naylor/Koné/Friend
          Özil - Fàbregas - Ayew - Mirallas - Capoue
          Agüero - Rooney - Vardy

Your defence is too expensive. It can be a good choice going with a premium gk so no harm in that but 3 premium defenders is too much. You would either want 1 premium defender and 2 rotation pairs or 2 premium defender and a rotation pair + 4.0 or a 4.5 as back up. Strong middfield but Coutinho and Firmino is too much considering the fixtures. Maybe start of with one of the Swansea boys or maybe Tadic/Chelsea midd and keep only 1 Liverpool midd. The lack of attacking Chelsea players is a worry. Too light in your strikers.

      5.5/10 for me

Not bad at all. I prefer Eriksen to Firmino personally but Liverpool are proven scorers under Klopp so follow your gut on that one. Unsure on WBA double up. I'd swap Foster or McAuley for Valdes or Friend.

Jakupovic over Pickford if you're going 4.0 keeper. Not sure Cedric will be ready for GW1 after the Euros. I'll be monitoring him myself over the course of the season but wouldn't have him at the start. Morgan instead perhaps? Don't know who Grey is. If it's the Leicester winger he's far from nailed and not a good pick imo. I'd downgrade JWP and upgrade Grey to Townsend. Mane + Sturridge might be too much.
