We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Swansea City’s progress under new manager Francesco Guidolin.

First off, we check the Swans’ team statistics from the point of the Italian’s appointment in Gameweek 23 and compare them to the previous numbers under former boss Garry Monk as well as the rest of Premier League. We’ll also analyse their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Welsh club were quick off the mark last time out, drawing against Chelsea and beating Man United in the opening four rounds of fixtures. That early-season form was short-lived, though, and, by the time of Monk’s departure, they sat just a single point ahead of the drop zone after winning one of his final 11 league encounters at the helm.

Guidolin’s impact was immediate. Starting with a 2-1 triumph at Everton on his debut, he steered the club to seven wins in the final 16 matches, compared to five victories in 22 beforehand, in a run that ultimately saw them finish 12 points clear of the bottom three.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Some things I've considered:
    - Although it is only pre-season, conceding 4 goals is a worry, hence I may have no Utd defence. Plus, Saints beat them at Old Trafford.
    - Double up on Leicester and Swansea for fixtures against Hull.
    - Rondon scored against Argentina & Uruguay in the Copa America

Firstly De Gea and Smalling were missing, Dortmund are also a lot further into PRE-season.
      Agreed
Rondon wasn't playing under Pulis in those games.

I'm not reading anything into that United result just yet. If they continue to ship goals I'll reconsider but it wasn't their strongest team, was just a friendly and Dortmund are better than the vast majority of Premier League sides.

Doubling up on Leicester and Swansea makes an early WC almost inevitable. Not sure I want to put my eggs in that basket.

    Got not replies, so repost

    A) Martial-Hazard-Bolasie with 7.5 mill striker (Benteke if he moves, if not Shane Long, reinvest 1mill elsewhere)

    B) Townsend- Tadic - Siggy with Ibra

Other midfielder is KDB & Fletcher in both cases. Other strikers in both cases are Gray and Aguero.

    Cheers.

Townsend could be playing 2nd striker if Pardew was happy with the last game in their 3-5-2

He has a tiny sample, got to bear that in mind.

But if you think he'll be a regular starter, he might be a decent 5th mid.
I doubt it though, and not many want to spend 5.0m on a 5th mid.

More goals would make him more appealing. Under Koeman I'm hoping for the rebirth of Famous Seamus. Will make them more solid though anyone could better last season. Had his best attacking season when he kept the most cleansheets in 13/14 and had a decent Euros. Might get both, for Fuchs sake 😉

As far as 4.5 mids go, does it make sense to get the one with the lowest ownership (one that is expected to play of course) as their price will drop slower than a player with higher ownership? Don't want my bench fodder turning into 4.4 after GW2.

    1. Ziegler1988

You'll want to avoid high ownership ones like Fletcher since the casuals just choose him because he has highest points from last season in that bracket and will ditch immediately. 1% or lower owned may also drop early but hopefully most of the people won't waste a FT on yours, only a WC

Early thoughts on picking a squad for FPL this year:

1.) Foster/Heaton rotate wonderfully, it is a clear choice whp to pick every week. Only 9.0 makes them a no-brainer.

2.) SOT have great fixtures in GWs 1, 3 and 5, and abysmal ones in GWs 2 and 4. For people looking to take a risk and do something a bit different, using VvD in a rotation could be an interesting strategy. Not a bad player to have on your bench too if things go wrong.

3.) Everton have a great coach and good fixtures, one of Baines/Coleman is surely worth a punt.

4.) Bolasie, Miki, Eriksen and Mahrez all had rests this summer and represent great value.

Any more thoughts from anyone else?

Mori, Jags and Stones all competing for 2 places, I wouldn't feel comfortable going for any of them at the start of the season when we desperately need 100% nailed players.

      1) Agree 100%

      2) Thought about it, but too much money to be sitting on my bench

      3) Baines has been in every draft I've made so far

      4) Agree with Bolasie and Eriksen. Still cautious on Mkhi. Really not sure about Mahrez, afraid he could be a one season wonder. hope I'm wrond though.

On point 3, do you think Baines is fully nailed? Didn't he get dropped a few times last season for Oviedo? I really want to pick him and would do if I knew he's start every game, but Coleman's absolute nailed on-ness is pushing me towards him more.

I understand why you might be cautious on Miki, but I want a piece of the MUN attack and Ibra is too expensive. With Mahrez, I think he's worth a go considering he's had a rest and he plays Hull on GW1.

I'll admit that I hadn't taken that point into consideration. Coleman would then be the safest choice, and with similar attacking returns. We'll see in pre season how they line up.

If you want a piece of ManU attack, why not go with Martial? But again, Mkhi might not be a bad choice. I'm just cautious as he's getting into a new league.
As for Mahrez, 9.5 is too expensive to my liking to take a gamble on.

Heaton. Plays at home and CPL are a good attacking side.

      2. Cedric rotation instead?
      4. Townsend rested too.

        2. Will Cedric be starting games or will he still be getting rested after the Euros? A great option if Puel mentions something about him being ready.

        4. Good point, comes down to personal preference and what you can do with the extra 0.5 I guess.
