We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Swansea City’s progress under new manager Francesco Guidolin.

First off, we check the Swans’ team statistics from the point of the Italian’s appointment in Gameweek 23 and compare them to the previous numbers under former boss Garry Monk as well as the rest of Premier League. We’ll also analyse their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Welsh club were quick off the mark last time out, drawing against Chelsea and beating Man United in the opening four rounds of fixtures. That early-season form was short-lived, though, and, by the time of Monk’s departure, they sat just a single point ahead of the drop zone after winning one of his final 11 league encounters at the helm.

Guidolin’s impact was immediate. Starting with a 2-1 triumph at Everton on his debut, he steered the club to seven wins in the final 16 matches, compared to five victories in 22 beforehand, in a run that ultimately saw them finish 12 points clear of the bottom three.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Wouldn't go with Ivan. Redmond nailed? Mate prob won't play, Mou hates him.

      Apart from that, good.

He sold him at Chelsea because he was too physically lightweight. Mou's not his biggest fan and he isn't nailed to start matches unfortunately.

Which 2 would you choice? Fabregas, Tadic, Siggy, Ayew (or other 7,5)?
Fabregas minutes at risk so better not start with him (but if he find his old form then jump on him)
Currently thinking Tadic and Siggy but keep changing...

    Afternoon,

Only post an RMT once a year but as a base I was wondering what people think:

    Heaton - Foster

    Cresswell - Shaw - Azpilicueta - Souare - Friend

    Mahrez - Mkhi - KDB - Fletcher - Fer

    Aguero - Rondon - Long

Good GW rotation across the back with flexibility on WHM & MANU. I’m hoping early EUROPA L will give WHM a bit of early competitive game sharpness.

Mahrez is a place holder for Ozil. Mkhi is a punt but offers flexibility for Sanchez. Fer is a possible for the first 2 games.

Rondon & Long rotate, with Rondon having potential in the early easier run. If Negrado comes in cheap I’ll be looking at him, despite recent travails I have confidence he could one of ‘those’ Middlesborough signings.

I'm tring to initially stay away from teams with new managers.

    Cheers

The 3 big hitters in my mid are set but I think there is more value there than up front this seaason.

I am also a bit concerned how City will line up, think they're might be a fair bit of rotation in the attacking line (other than augero obvs).

I think Pep will pretty much play the same eleven in all of the opening league fixtures and then once the season progresses he will start to rotate more and give guys like sterling etc more game time.

You would think, I imagine he'll start with 4-2-3-1 but he does like to be flexible with formations.

Haven't seen any of pre-season but I have been wondering if he might just spring a surprise or two, something like Aguero pushed out on the right with Iheanacho up top, one of Silva or KDB in the centre of the 3 and Nolito out left. I'd be on Iheanacho straight away if there was a whiff of that!

So you're planning on playing a 3-5-2 then? I think if you're going to do that you need to have a better 4th midfielder, and then a cheapie 5th who's guaranteed to play.

I was actually thinking that the 5 rotating a the back plus a premium week in week out allows a fair bit of flexibility most weeks.

      6 goals 5 assists as false 9 in 674 minutes (1.47 G+A per 90 minutes)
4 goals 3 assists as one of the three AMs in 1309 minutes (0.48 G+A per 90 minutes)

I genuinely think Rooney will have a great season playing as no 10. With Martial and Mick surrounding him and Ibra holding play up I really think he will be the Man U attacker to have. Hope so as he is currently in my team.

Have Aguero/Bats/Rooney and quite happy with it but no doubt will change come GW1.

I completely agree re: Rooney, he's in my team and I think he'll prove to be an absolute bargain at 9.0. Not sure about investing so much money into Batshuayi though - no assurances he'll play as yet, I'd at least wait until after the West Ham opener to see what happens. It'll be a tight game so I doubt you'll miss out massively on points if he does start.

United hope springs eternal here today. New manager, new players. They will rise again, but the mess isn't even close to sorted out yet. Rooney has disappointed for how many seasons running, now?

I would rather be 2 weeks late to the party than 6 weeks early.

Third draft, points out of 10 please.

        Cech - (Jakupovic)
VvD - Van Aanholt - Shaw - (Evans - Friend)
        Firmino - Fabregas - Wilshere - Tadic - (Fletcher)
        Sturridge - Wilson - Aguero

Wilshere is a bit punty I grant you, so any sub 6m alternative suggestions welcome.

          GK - solid
DEF - all but (evans/friend) are attacky FB's with favorable fixtures, but are under new management. more uncertainty than I'd have in my team
MID - Fab won't be in Arsenal mode, too much attacking elsewhere in that side. I like the rest quite a lot and the Wilshere punt is great. Keep it as is, IMO.
FWD: I assume that is Callum and not James Wilson. Looks awesome.

Great team. A breath of fresh air. Funny how the stale template has already begun taking shape.

        The Case for Loftus-Cheek:

        1) Price - £5.5m - A gamble that can afford to go wrong.

        2) Position - OOP? - "I like him a lot in the position of striker. Ruben can play close to the other forward but become a forward when we have the ball"

        3) Goal threat - Even if not playing in striker role, threat for aerial set-pieces. Italian manager, set piece training?

        4) Fixtures - WHM, wat, BUR, swa

...I would like to think I started the Rondon bandwagon...Had him prior to his goal last night.

If Berahino leaves I will warm to him even more. He ended with 2 goals in last 2 PL fixtures and scored 2 in Copa as well.

                          Had a good patch of 4 goals + 1 assist in 6 during Feb/March.

            Vardy and Mahrez here.

Hull are depleted with injury and now have no manager, it doesn't look good for them.

Fair enough. Vardy can be a real flat track bully against the weaker teams, so that combined with too many other good mid options over Mahrez.

This is true. However, Leicester's fixtures aren't stellar after GW1 and I trust Mahrez more than I trust Vardy to deliver against the better teams. Could go wither way though.

Vardy was nearly fixture proof last season. Kante leaving would impact the defense quite a bit, but if anything would spur the foxes to score more. It doesn't always work that way, but I don't see why much would change as regards Vardy this season.

Can I just point out that Kante played in the Leicester side that was shipping goals from Aug to Jan.

They didn't tighten up as a team until Jan and that had more to do with Fuchs and Simpson cementing places in the team, not sure it can be pinpointed on Kante who was very much part of a Leicester side who people said couldn't keep clean sheets in the first part of the season.

Yeah fixtures aren't great. But can always switch out Vardy for another big hitter. Having two Leicester means you can't get rid of both without a hit

What of last season did the people at fantasy premier league see that made them think Brunt was a defender!?!

With that in mind is he worth the extra over other WBA defenders or in place of a 5m one from else where?

Hi, I'm not English, and I wanted to know why a lot of people seem to think that Allardyce is the right man for the England job?

His coaching record is far from stellar :
        - 39% of wins over his career
        - has only coached "lesser" clubs
        - never took part in CL

        Am I missing something?

"I'm not suited to Bolton or Blackburn, I would be more suited to Internazionale or Real Madrid," said Allardyce. "It wouldn't be a problem to me to go and manage those clubs because I would win the Double or the league every time.

"Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it wouldn't be a problem. It's not where I'm suited to, it's just where I've been for most of the time. It's not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League and would make my job a lot easier in winning it."

        I have Baines

I am thinking of swapping him for Fuchs, at least until Brunt is fit

And I am thinking to keep him as he might be a big punt..
He might be restored on pens also.. more so if Lukaku is gone.

To be fair I reckon Vardy will be the more guaranteed scorer of goals given their formation and the way they play

          I've gone Mahrez

          10m for Vardy geez

Kun, Kaku, Austin for me atm

But Vardy would make it easier to get to Ibra if needed

Just like Austin, might not keep him, that 6.5 range has a few options, and Benteke at Palace could change things

But you cant really argue with the fact that Dortmund were far more advanced in their preseason preparations and that Mourinho has only managed United for a month where as Tuchel has been with Dortmund for much longer. Both teams, especially United, were missing a lot of first choice players.

its ridiculous the emphasis that is put on these pre season games. as u say Dortmund are a lot further forward in their preparations.

The way the world has gone i guess.

We have seen countless times before that pre season form bares no resemblance to league form at the start

Is loading up on expensive defenders really such a bad thing? They're looking far better value in some cases, even at 6.5m, for example

        Bellerin - 6.5m - 172pts

        Payet - 9.5m - 171pts
        Lukaku - 9m - 181pts

        even Aguero - 13m - 184pts
Obviously injuries played a part last season, but some defenders are looking far better value
        Thoughts?
