Up next in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Tottenham.

We kick start our analysis by assessing the north London outfit’s team statistics in Mauricio Pochettino’s second season in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources with one eye on the season kick-off in just three weeks’ time.

Pochettino’s side finished third last time around, 11 points behind champions Leicester and one point behind north London rivals Arsenal.

That fails to tell the full story, though, as Spurs were still in with a chance of winning the title right up until their Gameweek 36 trip to Chelsea, where a 2-2 draw at the Bridge, which saw the visitors pick up nine yellow cards, handed the crown to Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Subsequent losses to Southampton and relegated Newcastle – a 5-1 hammering at St James’ – meant their season ended in bitter disappointment, with the Gunners climbing above them to clinch the runners-up slot on the final day of 2015/16.

he's one for the future, nothing of interest for FPL.

Watched him at the U21 Toulon tournament. Played alongside Guirassy who's a potential star.

Mousset has a huge ego apparently.

Mousset looked a decent talent himself but with Gradel, Ibe, Stanislas, Mousset, King, Pugh all vying for three positions in the team, it's a bit of a minefield.

Can only assume Gradel & Ibe will be first choice? Other spot up for grabs probably.

Is Neil Taylor a N because of rotation risk? Feel like 4.5 and opening against burnley and hull would make him a Y.

I'm not convinced on Costa myself but I'm trying to find my second big striker and not sold on Lukaku.. any advice?

Just feel there are better 4.5m than Taylor.

Re 2nd fwd, not sure, it's actually a difficult spot to fill. I'm currently on Rooney but not convinced either.

Hopefully something will become clearer in the coming weeks.

Funes Mori, especially if Stones moves.
      Leicester defs have decent fixtures.
West Ham have good fixtures, but I'm not sure who the best option might be between Reid and Ogbonna.
Brunt is an interesting option if he is on corners and fks and can refrain from mouthing off to the refs.

Defence a little weak. How about downgrading Shaqiri to Gradel and one of the defenders to a 4.0. Then you have 1.5 left to upgrade your defence

I can see a bit of a change this season. Rather than the typical 3-4-3/3-5-2 approach, many defences will be strengthened because of new managers.
I may go for a 4-5-1 formation, as nobody knows which striker will be prolific. Aguero is likely to be the man, but most teams will play in a 4-4-2/4-2-4 except Man City, Swansea, Liverpool. So, my team (just a draft) will be a 4-5-1, as many of the midfielders below can play as a striker:

    Mandanda - Jakupovic
Stones - Terry - Morgan - Friend (Kone)
    Hazard - Mahrez - Mkhitaryan - Firmino - Ayew
    Aguero (Grabban - Campbell)

Nice idea and something I've thought about myself.

For 5.5 you can get top of the range defenders, for 7.5 you can get very strong midfielders, the strikers seem very expensive to have two or three of them.

      1. adstomko
        • 9 Years

Exactly, and the majority of those expensive strikers are likely to play in a 4-4-2

Just don't think I'd captain him over Aguero in the first 3 so would rather spead the money about.

If he flops in the first two weeks he will probably drop in value as a lot own him, Bournmouth and Southampton both beat them last season so it won't be easy.

      1 with elements of 3.
Of course I hope that we will keep him, but it will be interesting to see if he retains FPL value for money if he moves to, for example, Arsenal.

You don't need to decide that now.

Pick a GW1 team. Then after that's over, go from there.

You'd be making some transfers if you subbed out your gold dust players after one week.

Anyone using their AOA in GW1 to get it out of the way while you can build a squad for it?

Unlike last season you may well need a 5th midfield enabler so might not get the chance to use it properly later on in the season.

GW1 seems like the perfect time due to many key men potentially missing and the big hitters with difficult fixtures (thinking Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool)

    Something like...

    GW1 AOA
    GW2/3 WC for Euro stars.

        Bernt Haas 🙂

Elias Chatzitheodoridis (Arsenal) is another epic one.

Had Mahrez from GW1 last season, feel terrible not even considering him this.

I'm going with Feghouli this year..

Assuming you're gonna let him rot on the bench.. Fletcher is simple and easy.

If you are just going to let him rot on the bench take a punt on Leko he looked great end of last season and could potentially score points and increase in value

I see and that gives you the best rotation for that team for the amount of fixtures you have on the ticker?

If you click Stoke, then 'Sort by Rotation', you'll see the best rotations in order and West Ham are best with Stoke, over the 1st 5 fixtures.

He could be worth a punt. A good creative player, who has goals in his game. I'm personally avoiding because of his proclivity for cautions, and I think the wings are where Pep will rotate most.

Sterling is unlikely to be in the starting XI, but I do like Silva.
