Up next in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Tottenham.

We kick start our analysis by assessing the north London outfit’s team statistics in Mauricio Pochettino’s second season in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources with one eye on the season kick-off in just three weeks’ time.

Pochettino’s side finished third last time around, 11 points behind champions Leicester and one point behind north London rivals Arsenal.

That fails to tell the full story, though, as Spurs were still in with a chance of winning the title right up until their Gameweek 36 trip to Chelsea, where a 2-2 draw at the Bridge, which saw the visitors pick up nine yellow cards, handed the crown to Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Subsequent losses to Southampton and relegated Newcastle – a 5-1 hammering at St James’ – meant their season ended in bitter disappointment, with the Gunners climbing above them to clinch the runners-up slot on the final day of 2015/16.

    Conversations we recycle EVERY pre-season:

    • I'm not going to use 3-4-3...
    • I'm building a team for 4 GWs, then wildcarding...
    • My team looks so much better without Aguero...
    • Aguero is essential...

    Any others? 😆 🙂

Any words of advice? Strengths? Huge weaknesses etc?

    Mahrez - Mkhitaryan - Hazard - Coutinho - Ayew

Honestly though, i don't see anything bad in it, 3-4-3 leaves a lot lacking in my opinion. Different pricings of players etc, it doesn't make sense this season to be starting with a 3-4-3, especially as i am definitely building it only for the first few gw's.

I kinda like it. I'm a bit worried by the defense though. Both funes-Mori and terry could risk missing starts in the first 4 gws, which would be pretty detrimental to a setup like this

Agrred, and those are exactly the two players i'm always changing, will find if something more solid works.
I really do think i'll start this way though, way too much decision going into those forward slots, when can just be as happy with a beast of a midfield.

Can't really discount it as a short-term option. It seems every year in my minileagues there's at least one person who sets their stall out fopr a season of 4-5-1 and starts off well. However by the end of the season they're normally a good 150-200 points off the lead. So by this small sample it might provide a good start if you're hell-bent on an early wildcard, but you'll need to revert to multiple forwards before too long.

oh yes definitely, agree with all what you put, this is definitely only for the first few GW's, just increases chances of getting off to that ever important start. Absolutely no chance i would stick with a 4-5-1 all season haha!
Thanks though, it has offered good insight, and again another person who has actual input from what someone has said, instead of the clowns who just mock and provide nothing 🙂

I'm happy enough. Sorry to lose Allardyce as he really seemed to have us on the right track after the January signings. I feel like Moyes is the best bet for building on that, especially considering the realistic alternatives seemed to be Dyche, Martinez & (for a terrifying moment) Bruce - all of whom would've drained all enthusiasm out of the fans & pretty much guaranteed another season-long relegation battle. Moyes will hopefully continue to make us hard to beat, as BSA did in the latter half of the season.

Going by past seasons what do ye reckon

    1. Buy at least 2 Mourinho players, he barely changes his squad and there's no CL distractions. FPL gold.
    2. Avoid getting too many Pep players for the same reason. Nobody attacking at Bayern was safe from rotation, including guys like Muller and Lewandowski.
    3. Trust Pardew players up until Christmas then hold a firesale.
    4. Don't trust Sunderland players until well after Christmas.
    5. Be wary of Hughes/Stoke players. He often neglects to mention key players have picked up niggles in his Friday pressers, then you're dumbfounded when Arnie / Shaqiri etc doesn't appear in the matchday squad.
    6. Trust Pulis/WBA and Swansea against the weaker teams, the ticker usually works well for them.
    7. Apart from the absolute whipping boys, the ticker is rarely useful for Liverpool.
    8. Jump on Everton and Arsenal while they're hot.

Just a few my thoughts sumed-up in one post.

    1. What about Firmino and Coutinho? I know Liverpool play against Chelsea, Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal in first 5 gameweeks. And that's exactly why would i choose one of them. They deliver in big matches. Firmino scored 10 goals last season. But, he scored against, United, City(twice), Arsenal(two in one game). Same with Coutinho. They are so fired up in big matches.

    2. From tactical point of view. Martial had a good season, and now, his very expensive, 9.5. Mkhi is also 9.5. I watched Man Utd games against Wigan and Dortmund. Mkhi is crazy, he moves so good, and is always looking for killer ball, i see a lot of assists from Mkhi this season. But, Shaw's movement upfront means that Martial will be closer to goal. It's close call, but i still think Mkhi is better option.

    3. Koeman is great manager. I think he will deliver in Everton. I have no idea who will he play in midfield. But, i think if Barkley will play number 10, he will be bargain at 7.5.

    4. What about Redmond? He scored two today. Mane is gone. Redmond will play. 6.0 is cheap. I have Ayew and Fabregas in midfield, and i'm thinking about double transfer in game week 3, Redmond and Hazard for Fabregas and Ayew(i have 1 million left).

    5. Will Swansea play with Ayew as a striker? What if they bring in some striker? Gilfy is thriving at the tip of 4-4-2 narrow diamond. And there is also spot kicks.

    6. Are there rotation risks for Austin and Long? Koeman played 3-5-2, but now he's gone. No room for both of them.

    7. Why everyone uses WC after gw3? Isn't it better to save for winter transfers or save two wildcards for two DGWs?

      7. I know there is not a lot of bussines in january transfer window. But, we have now Liverpool, Tottenham, ManUtd, ManCity, Arsenal, Chelsea, and maybe Leicester, West Ham and Everton, chasing maybe 1st and definitely top four place. And you have there 8 teams, and at least 3 of them in january will be in 6th, 7th and 8th positions, and that will be underperforming, and they will shop big in january.

1 WC must be used in 2016 and probably no DGWs in 2016.

Liverpool start with 3 consecutive away games, and plus all thoe tough fixtures. Doesn't matter how good they were last season, fixture will affect decision making.

Martial isn't a Mourinho signing,Mkhi is. And Mourinho always prefers his own signings. Not saying Martial won't do well but Mkhitaryan will probably central to whatever United do by the looks of it.

Barkley is a player with huge fantasy potential but his inconsistency is the problem.

People aren't considering Redmond in case Puel's front 2 are Long and Austin.

Siggy and Ayew situation will always be unclear. One has set-pieces and the other has the OOP potential. Plus Ayew is also a natural goalscorer.

Everyone uses WC after GW3 to increase team value. Also you have to use one WC in the first half of the season.

I would really appreciate some feedback on this team.

    Jaku Foster
    Shaw Ivanovic Fernandez Evans Paredes
    KdB Mkhi Coutinho Sigurdsson Capoue
    Aguero Benteke Wilson

Backing Ivanovic to have a good season. Benteke still a question mark. As of now, I am 50/50 between Wilson and Gray.
KdB, Coutinho and Sigurdsson on corner/free kicks. Aguero, Benteke, Wilson and Sigurdsson on penalty kick.

Looks a decenet goal threat on the basis of last season. First 4 fixtures:

    Bournemouth (H)
    Middlesbrough (A)

In my opinion, it's too heavy up front, not enough quality in midfield.

Wolly's baseline bps is impressive, and he's current;y my favourite Stoke defenders.

But it's worth noting that Hughes has used 3 CBs in two pre-season games now, which makes Pieters an OOP option when the formation is deployed. No idea how often he will use the formation next season though.

“We used three different formations throughout the game today, starting off with three at the back which is something that new to the lads.

“That is something that could be an option to us next season - there are positive aspects to it but there are problems that it brings too, which we need to look at and address. There is certainly no harm in having more strings to our bow though.”

You can put together a great nailed on 5.0 back line with the likes of Jagielka, Lovren, Dawson, Williams, Shawx .....and co...

Lovren seemed to be something of the target man on set pieces when I've seen him play.

I hope I'm not partly responsible for inspiring all these Bolasie picks.

To be clear....I only pick Bolasie because I love watching him play...if it's pts you're after I think a you'd be better looking elsewhere....

Ibe, Gradel, Townsend, Chadli....and on and on...

This time last year the question was whether Eden Hazard is essential or not. Following a haul of 14 goals and 10 assists the previous season, Hazard came in at a price of 11.5.

None of us foresaw the internal troubles that were to afflict Chelsea and lead to the dismissal of Mourinho. The impact this had on the team was clear to see.

Fast-forward to the present and we have an Eden priced at 10.0, coming in off the back of a decent Euros showing. He wasn't utilised to his full in the Belgium line-up - a team severely lacking in good leadership and team cohesion.

Contrast their performance to Italy, a group of players widely regarded as the worst Italian squad in years. Motivated and tactically astute, the performance Antonio Conte got out of his team was sublime.

We all know what Eden is capable of, and Conte - at least in France - has shown that he has the ability to get the best out of his players.

Are we missing a trick here? Is Hazard at 10.0 not a bargain?
