A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT†and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

No idea if this has been discussed much, but is KDB just too much at risk of rotation to justify his price tag even though he has huge points potential?
For that matter are any city mids worth getting for GW1?
I'm leaning towards no but would completely understand someone getting one in

KDB is nailed and I think given Pep's purchases will play the #10 with Silva playing a withdrawn role deeper in the pitch given his diminutive stature and lack of strength being an issue with a high press defense.

I agree KDB could end up being rotated, especially when the champo league starts up, feel aguero is the most solid nailed on option in the man city attack

Other than Yaya (yaya yaya. yaya yaya. yaya yaya TOURE), Kompany, Hart and Aguero, Citeh players are always hard to justify having in your team because of rotation.

But when you don't have them in your team they often score multiple goals, which can lead to depression.

This season you can take at least Yaya off that list, possibly Kompany too.

For anyone who is interested ...I ran a cash league last year and I'm been asked if I want to run it again, as it was popular and I've been shown to be reliable, paying out right after the season ended.

Entry is only £10 and I'm hoping to get at least 30, which would see the top 4 paid out.

The same as before they got Sane, but I still haven't got a clue!
      Hart
      Sagna Otamendi Kompany Clichy
      Gundogan Toure
      Silva KDB Nolito
      Aguero

Thats what most would say I suspect.

Sounds like, we could see him in DEF at times though based on noises out of the press conferences.

This also relies on Kompany being injured or Otamendi just not being favoured and just City not being interested in wasting* yet another gratuitous amount (50m) on a def.

*may not be a complete waste...

        1. Kimmich

          9 years, 4 months ago

          Not necessarily midfield, lots of decent options at 7.5, if one can start well midfield is fine initially. My defence is what suffers the most;

          Foster - 4.0
          Shaw - Stones - Friend - Pieters - 4.0
          Hazard - Mahrez - Ayew - Fischer
          Aguero - Ibrahimovic - Austin

          1. Trigg âï¸
            • 13 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

            Yeah, I'd need a 7.5 and a 5.5 if I wanted those 4 in too.

            Its an option.

            1. Kimmich
              • 9 Years
              9 years, 4 months ago

Ibrahimovic is the problem, I don't want to get caught out on him. I suppose it's better to start with him and redistribute if needed. The trade off is probably worth it initially, just in case Zlatan goes and does something ridiculous.

I could definitely see the argument for downgrading Mahrez to a 8.5 and having a midfield of Hazard - 8.5 - 8.5 - 5.5. Eriksen and Firmino for instance could easily outscore Mahrez/7.5. Or alternatively you could invest the extra million into defence and that wouldn't be a bad choice either. Something to consider.

Yep, also had Firmino in there as a mini big hitter too.

A week and a half to tinker!

Klopp faired well against the big sides last season, I like Firmino as a pick from the start. Could be great value.

I started with Ighalo last season so I wanted to compare his output to Gray vs similar competition.

A quick comparison between Gray numbers last season and Ighalo numbers from the year prior in the Championship

    2015/2016 Gray - 3410 mins - 23G 8A
    2014/2015 Ighalo - 1941 mins - 20G 3A

Gray has 3 more goals and 5 more assists but played over 16 games more than Ighalo did

Based on this, Gray's numbers don't look as impressive but it does not mean his talent won't translate to the PL.

    De Gea, Jakupovic
    Friend, McAuley, Square, Kone, Smith
    Ayew, Firmino, Tadic, Deulofeu, Leko
    Aguero, Kane, Sturridge

Off the top of my head the front 3 have the best goals/shots per minute ratio of any players in the prem over the last 2 seasons.

I think the team isn't to badly balanced, midfield is pretty good without a premium priced player, Defence rotates well for first 6 weeks. Looking to wildcard around week 4/5/6 depends how the season starts.

Just swap Jaku for the new Hull GK, downgrade DDG and/or one of your midfielders (don't know how much Leko is, but if not 4.5, he's too expensive as you won't play him), and try to make Kane Zlatan, and it's fair and square a team of fantasy!

Sturridge isn't nailed and you're Liverpool homering too much anyways considering their fixtures are poor.
Ayew isn't a great option if Swans sign 1-2 striker(s) and Tadic is a bit unclear given that Puel needs time to get his system and formation figured out.

      Kane has no Dembele.

I'm ignoring Man City everything bar Kun and maybe KDB atm..they also have CL games interspersed there which may create more rotation
