Nathan Redmond has usurped team-mate Dusan Tadic as part of this morning’s Watchlist refresh.

With the dust settled from the opening day’s action, we’ve dipped back into the rankings for our daily re-assessment and promoted the former Norwich winger up the midfield standings.

Priced at just 6.0 and deployed as part of a front two by manager Claude Puel, Redmond appears to be our first priority in the mid-price.

The drop for Tadic is harsh. He was outstanding in the 1-1 draw with Watford and produced some performance statistics that suggest he will be a major Fantasy force over the campaign. We will keep monitoring his displays.

But Redmond got his goal and his own numbers were equally impressive: his potential and value is just too strong.

With Puel talking him up at every opportunity, it would be remiss to overlook his appeal at the expense of Tadic and also striker Shane Long.

Southampton’s fixtures will certainly test Redmond’s output.

Puel’s side must now face trips to Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester. But St Mary’s meetings with Sunderland and Swansea appear to provide the platform for the former Canary to go on producing.

He stacks up behind a cast of heavy-hitting midfielders but may well surpass some of that pack once the Gameweek 1 fixtures are complete.

Today we will be monitoring the performances of Roberto Firmino and Alexis Sanchez in particular.

Further down our list we saw Ross Barkley make positive strides having notched on the opening day once again.

Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez also consolidated his position as our midfield weapon of choice in Aitor Karanka’s ranks.

We’re also showing patience with Andros Townsend. He demonstrated enough to suggest he’ll be a key goal threat for Crystal Palace and his mid-term fixtures remain favourabe. He holds his position as another mid-price consideration.

Further down, Erik Lamela sneaks in to our reckoning. We will be debating his rank further this week, with Dele Alli already coming under pressure as the key target in Tottenham’s midfield ahead of their encouraging schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would you wildcard this mess? 1.5m in the bank, 1FT...

    Foster | Jakupovic
    Shaw | Stones | Friend | Mee | Amat
    Hazard | Firmino | Eriksen | Ramirez | Capoue
    Aguero | Vardy | Gray

Doesn't look like a mess to me. Vardy had the chances, just didn't convert. I'd maybe do Eriksen out for one of the many midfielders that performed well.

LIASTRO - it depends on how many players you want to transfer in. As others have suggested, wait until Monday night after the last game and re assess. If you feel that half of your starting 11 could be improved significantly with players who you feel will continue to be starting and producing the goods go for it. Early wildcards are frowned upon in here but I have found them to be a great idea year after year! 😉

No!!! Great team! If you want to make a change maybe bring Redmond for Eriksen and upgrade Gray. No way would I use my wildcard this early when you have a team like that or go minus points.

    Morning folks.

Thoughts on the refreshed rankings and also this new approach and article appreciated. I've always wanted the Watchlist to be more dynamic and for us to re-assess it throughout the week. We will look at the other positions in more detail later in the week, although I have gone in to those this morning in terms of the rankings.

We will be getting the rank movement arrows back soon - just letting ourselves recover from what has been a very busy spell preparing for the season. In the end, we just ran out of time to roll out the enhancements to the site - which include the full desktop view on mobile - but now we can put them back on our agenda and get them from test to live.

I agree with this. The Scout Notes article is very important for me especially for matches that I don't know how they went. Sheds light players who did well, those who didn't (from fantasy perspective and in real life), players who could face suspension or possible injury.

Last time I'll be leaving this here. Just because the majority say playing BB in a DGW is the better idea, doesn't mean it is.

Ruth NZ's post that inspired me to play GW1.
    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/08/05/sleeper-cesc-fabregas/?hc_page=7#hc_comment_13675873

    My team currently 60 overall.
    https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/2179/event/1

Take it as a "boast" if you like. The point is the tactic of playing BB early. I understand I got lucky, there is no doubt about it. But even if i got half the bench points I would be happy.

My summary of Ruths post with a couple of my own thoughts:

Value of BB in a SGW – 12pts
Value of BB in a DGW – 24pts

So is it worth chasing that 12 point “advantage?”

    No because:

-You have to compromise your WC by playing it a week early and selling players that you wouldn’t want to sell early. Eg Hazard may have SUN a week before the main DGW. But He doesn’t have a DGW. So you sell him for a DGW’er on your WC a week before the DGW and miss his haul vs SUN.

-Likely points hit(s) required to fix side after BB DGW.

-Almost impossible to get 15 players players twice in a DGW. Near the end of the season, rotation, injuries and even suspensions start catching up to players. I will play my second WC in the actual week of the big DGW and will get 11 “nailed on” DGW’ers.

I posted he other day that I was considering BB, as most likely to have 15 starters near the beginning. Someone said was it for dgw, I don't get how that helps tbh.

Didn't, annoyed. Mainly because Jaku / Kone fixtures looked bad, didn't consider Capoue might score..

      This is pretty funny.

You talk about your strategy, and how it was successful... But that's quite a good-case scenario. You got lucky, scored well.

Yet when you talk about the other strategy, you assume the worst:
      - You state we "have" to compromise... We don't have to sell Hazard, and most wouldn't in that scenario.
      - "Likely" points hits to "fix" a side. Again, a WC is to a plan. Most good players would plan for this. Without a WC, most will take MORE hits to get a good DGW/post-DGW team.
      - I also find it hard to see how you'll get 11 "nailed on" DGWs, yet don't believe anyone else can find just four more to get 15.

In summary, one swallow doesn't make a summer. One successful BB doesn't prove one strategy to be better than another. Congrats on your GW, but stop ramming it down our throats as if you're the messiah. 🙂

        1. You will have to make compromises, no doubt about it. Hazard is just an example the more single gamweekers you keep, the lower the value of a BB DGW.

        2. It is likely. Even the best of plans get messed up by the craziness at the end of the season. I remember last season most people were taking hits the week after they Wc'ed! the week they were playing their BB DGW.

        3. "Nailed on" in quoatations because they're not necessarily going to be nailed on. It is easier picking 11 nailed on players than 15 though. And I will maximise my onfield cash. Compromises will be made when you spread the cash around to have a strong bench.

I'm not acting like a messiah. I keep on crediting Ruth NZ becuase he is the real messiah here.

I see the logic, but I think there's one thing you haven't taken into consideration: What your rivals in your mini league do with their chip(s). If you know lots of them plan to BB in a DGW, it just seems so much safer to do the same thing. The risk of giving them a big advantage is to me bigger than the possible reward of a good BB in GW1.

You're comparing the best case scenario to the worst. If you want to compare the output of a problem to two different equations, the other factors must be kept as constant, which clearly isn't the case here.

Also, I am not sure how the value of BB has been derived. You just get one chip, it's value is equal for every Gameweek. I wouldn't call my BB chip a failure if I don't get 24 points in DGW when I could have had 12 in GW1. Anything that I get over and above GW1 will be added to my total, if it were a case of Present Value v/s Future Value then sure, but at least I am in this for a whole season and what I finish on GW38 is what will matter to me.

      1. Nabs Kebabs
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

How am i comparing the best case to the worst? That is a blatant lie.

The value is assumed. There is no other way to do it. Double for DGW makes perfect sense so it is fairly accurate.

You seem to be missing the point like many. You are obviously more likely to get more points from the bench in a DGW BB. But are the compromises worth it is the real question?

No is the view of Ruth NZ and I.

The best case scenario being you comparing your successful BB chip for GW1 (Congratulations on that) with the first case scenario of the DGWs where you have assumed that Hazard might not have a DGW and people will get rid of him before Sunderland and miss his hauls.

Also, I'll try to put it in an easier way, it doesn't matter if you use your BB chip in GW1 or GW38, in a single Gameweek or a Double Gameweek. It's value will be the same. If the points you get in a DGW are higher than what you would get in a SGW, then it is a successful chip because points earned in GW1 are equal to what you earn in GW38 because we are building a total. If it were a case of Present Value, then I would be agreeing to it, but it is not and therefore, just because DGW has double games doesn't mean you need to score double the points you did in a SGW, the assumption is faulty.

          1. Nabs Kebabs
            • 14 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

I disagree. It's value is clearly higher in a DGW (Let's remember i'm trying to suggest that you shouldn't play it then). It's the value of the compromises that come with it that cost more points imo.

My preference of playing it early is so that you can WC soon after to go to a "long term structure."

I don't want to be stuck with an expensive bench for too long. I planned my 15 man squad for the first 3 GWs (WC GW4) with a GW1 BB in mind.

            1. AK ⭐
              • 13 Years

I see where you're going with the 'compromises' bit and I do see sense into it, what we don't know is who will be playing in the DGW. If it's the players that are already in form and already in most active teams, then there won't be a lot of compromises. It's also about what options we will have in the DGW and if there are any cheap options that are good enough to be on the bench whose points will get doubled.

I don't think there is a perfect time to play the BB chip, but there is more upside to it if you wait for the DGWs.

      27 but 10 incoming as I went with myhill/foster.

Read an article on here some time ago suggesting that if you're running two keepers from the same team, field the one who's not playing.

Meaning if foster got red carded, I'd actually get points.

I love double keepers for another reason as well ; I shouldn't have to trade in the gkp till double game weeks.

Redmond basically played like Townsend used to. Very frustrating for his other teammates, especially Long. They appeared to give up asking for the ball the moment he got the ball in the final third.

Yes! A bit like the BBC does with Lawrenson's score predictions. Over the season you can see how he ranks against against the motley crew of newsreaders and obscure indie bands that have a go. It's a proper pro versus casuals challenge.

Only 2 clean sheets so far! And let's face it, no one would have bet Swansea would be one of them after losing Williams.

Only obvious one was West Brom and Foster was one of their suggestions.

Heaton still got 4 points too despite no CS.

i can't imagine many got clean sheet points yesterday! I also can't see many more today.

People like easy information and hate doing their own research.. Gray is a class player but he can only be as good as the team behind him. And the team behind him is average at best as far as EPL standards go. Some bandwagons on here really do go out of control.. i kinda like it though. i hated that FFS got popular but now it's a good way to know what a majority of your rivals transfers are going to be which allows us to actually think differently and head in a different direction 🙂

Townsend has always averaged about 10 shots a game most always end up in Row Z 😆

For me Townsend has always flattered to deceive. I must admit that I did look at him and Souaré due to the fixtures but for me CP are just far to inconsistent they constantly disappoint with the easier looking fixtures

Double up. Yeah got that one right.

I also told them not to Kubra yet I had a touch of the "Evs" and decided to change from Vardy to Mahrez last minute. I couldn't find anyone to go with Kun and Long so I ended up with Kubra myself.

Kubra and Gaston Ramirez. Looks like it might pan out in my favour.

Last season in GW1 I benched Gomez (LFC) and he assisted, got cleanie and 3BPS all for 4m.

Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

This season a lot more of us were on Redmond. Although he got quite lucky, at least most of us played him.

Too much hype about his managers comments tho mean he'll be the bandwagon of choice (along with Alvaro).

        Anyone actually play Capoue? 🙁

Deulofeu would probably make way. However, if Ibra does well today I'm likely to panic and do Tadic and Vardy to Redmond and Ibra.

Ayew or Siggy. Plenty of options under 7.5 too.

Ramirez seems very influential in all areas of the field and Townsend has more goal attempts then most for 6.5.

I've got both at the moment, didn't quite work out with GW1 which I had hoped. Fixture wise I'm reluctant to keep both now, so am considering changing Tadic to Coutinho/Firminho/Barkley/Lamela/Pogba. Few options there ha

Waiting to see if Oscar has a role to play for Chelsea as he'll be my 7.5mil mid of choice if he looks nailed on.

Exactly the same scenario regarding Cazorla.

Hard to pass up these two at 7.5mil if nailed on in two top 6 clubs.

I did, used it as an enabler to get Ibra.

Redmond obviously came off and by the sounds of it Tadic came close too.

Going to keep both for a couple more GWs at least

When fixture congestion kicks in - cup replays, CL etc. and games need to be moved. Last season they were later in the season. They can occur at different times though. About 6 years ago, there were a load of rearranged games due to snowy weather. If you stay on this site, you won't miss them. The ffs community are (rightly) obsessed with them.

Big points are on offer if you get your selections right and play your chips right. The main point to remember is not to triple captain Lukaku in a double gameweek - even if he has easy fixtures. Trollkaku.

        Foster - Jakupovic
        Margan - McAuley - Friend - Pieters - Amat
        Hazard - Mahrez - Alli - Redmond - Capoue
        Aguero - Vardy - Gray

1m in the bank and 1 FT.
