Nemanja Vidic has suffered suspected knee ligament damage in tonight’s 2-1 Champions League defeat in Basel.

Vidic was stretchered from the proceedings a couple of minutes before half-time to be replaced by Jonny Evans with his team 1-0 down. United have tonight confirmed that they will await scans before offering a prognosis on the injury, although their early report indicates that the player himself fears he has sustained medial ligament damage having left the stadium on crutches.

The possibility of the United skipper being sidelined suddenly offers up a few quandaries for Fantasy managers.

There’s no doubt his return from a calf injury in gameweek 10 had an immediate effect on a previously shaky back line. The last five games have seen United return four clean sheets, with only a Demba Ba penalty preventing a clean sweep. Ahead of a favourable run of fixtures, the likes of Phil Jones have been transferred in by vast number of Fantasy numbers, with the champions’ defence looking formidable with Vidic alongside Rio Ferdinand in the heart of the back-four.

An absence for Vidic would surely have a significant effect on the plans of Fantasy managers. If he is out, only Patrice Evra could be the closest United defender to being nailed on but their resilience will surely drop without their skipper- can we really expect the same sort of defensive returns?

Jonny Evans could be set for a recall to the first team, having missed the last four and at 4.5 in FPL, could perhaps be a decent punt, given the cut-price outlay required. It remains to be seen how much game time he’d get if Vidic is confirmed as sidelined for a prolonged spell, although it’s worth noting that Alex Ferguson played him in nine of United’s first ten fixtures.

Phil Jones, at 6.4 and rising, looks set for more investment, with his adaptability vital to his game time, while Chris Smalling, at 5.2, could also come into plenty folks’ thinking.

We await further news from the United camp in the next 24-hours.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyway....as this is about the time when the voting is done for the Player of the Season, etc, what is your Premier League (not fantasy!) Team of the Season so far?

    Vorm
    Richards - Kaboul - S.Taylor - Evra
    Silva - Modric - Yaya - Bale
    RVP - Aguero

    Any advances?

It does make a difference when a club spends more money in a short space of time though, I'm sure you'll concede?

Spending money on a club since '92 is spending money on several teams.

Not sure there's any need to get offensive either but obviously emotions are running high.

I have no emotions running, because I couldn't care less which team went trough. As someone said above, city started from scratch, thus they need initial investment... thus you can't compare those two in spenditure when they clearly have different starting points.

In that case, there's no need to get offensive full stop - if you disagree with someone on here you don't have to insult them.

Yes, different starting points but then it comes down to the sheer amount invested in transfer fees and wages. The amount of "initial" investment isn't tangible because at what point does it start and stop?

Anyway, I'm not looking to get caught up in an argument on a message board - that would probably be a new low.

hard to look past Welbeck for United attacking coverage, but someone of 5.7 or less allows me to swap Brunt to Yaya, surely there a better and cheaper options than Danny to allow this, though a midfield 4 of Bale, VdV, Silva and Yaya may be overkill

They have no form at all though. No creativity in midfield.

Not sure Nani is going to shine right now. The loss of Vidic means the end of those lovely Phil Jones cleanies too. Especially if De Gea plays.

My front three are RVP Agbon and Rooney i was thinking of dropping Agbon and rooney for adeybayor and possibly another - but looking at this weeks fixtures is it worth holding on to them for one more week ? any thoughts ?
