634x258 Injuries

Nemanja Vidic has suffered suspected knee ligament damage in tonight’s 2-1 Champions League defeat in Basel.

Vidic was stretchered from the proceedings a couple of minutes before half-time to be replaced by Jonny Evans with his team 1-0 down. United have tonight confirmed that they will await scans before offering a prognosis on the injury, although their early report indicates that the player himself fears he has sustained medial ligament damage having left the stadium on crutches.

The possibility of the United skipper being sidelined suddenly offers up a few quandaries for Fantasy managers.

There’s no doubt his return from a calf injury in gameweek 10 had an immediate effect on a previously shaky back line. The last five games have seen United return four clean sheets, with only a Demba Ba penalty preventing a clean sweep. Ahead of a favourable run of fixtures, the likes of Phil Jones have been transferred in by vast number of Fantasy numbers, with the champions’ defence looking formidable with Vidic alongside Rio Ferdinand in the heart of the back-four.

An absence for Vidic would surely have a significant effect on the plans of Fantasy managers. If he is out, only Patrice Evra could be the closest United defender to being nailed on but their resilience will surely drop without their skipper- can we really expect the same sort of defensive returns?

Jonny Evans could be set for a recall to the first team, having missed the last four and at 4.5 in FPL, could perhaps be a decent punt, given the cut-price outlay required. It remains to be seen how much game time he’d get if Vidic is confirmed as sidelined for a prolonged spell, although it’s worth noting that Alex Ferguson played him in nine of United’s first ten fixtures.

Phil Jones, at 6.4 and rising, looks set for more investment, with his adaptability vital to his game time, while Chris Smalling, at 5.2, could also come into plenty folks’ thinking.

We await further news from the United camp in the next 24-hours.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      Looks good

But I reckon about 90% of teams I see on here recently have the same core of 9/10/11 players (including mine)

Going to be very difficult to make significant progress in leagues over the next few weeks I think

I think your right unless take a gamble on Baines which i passed on and brought in Jones for this week - i think the double gw will make a difference -

Very close to mine. Only differ on 5 players.

VDV is a tough one to decide what to do with. I think you can probably afford to lose him with Bale and Barndoor in your team for someone the likes of Nani or Mata.

      Overall - 8.5/10

Its likely with United's limp display up front. He is being eased into the side so should be ready to start

I wouldnt double up. Vidic leaves a massive hole at the back for ManU so I would wait to see how they go without him before doubling up.

I'm thinking about doing a cheeky triple! Jones, Smalling AND Evans. At least two are pretty much guaranteed and evans is cheap enough to allow one of them to sit out. Got the verminator (and wilkinson) as well. Will definitely wait to see how they cope this weekend though.

He's hardly so expensive that it's a disaster, and Blackburn are in good goalscoring form. Plus it'd mean three S'land players, which is an issue in itself.

3 Sunderland is indeed a problem. I didnt see the old Bendy bus up the front there. Personally I would play Brown over one of Walters or BAE seeing as tho they are playing each other. That being said tho, as Vilmorez points out, you would be placing a great deal of faith in Sunderland.

Blackburn has scored in every away game and Yakubu is on fire. Also Sunderland have problems right now and having Sess and Bend is doing my head right now...having 3 with Brown would be too much. I think I overdid it when I tripled on Sunderland for the nice 4 week run which never happened. This is the last week I have the 3 of them, Bend and Sess are out next week.

Should I take out Ekotto and play Brown cause Walters could score and give Ekotto 2 points.....

MULLLFC....There aren't that many options at this price range and Sess is great to watch and always a threat. I will end up keeping him and keep rotating Brown in defense.

Bendtner is definitely out next week for Yakubu, Morison, Helguson, Fletcher or Graham in that order.

      Get Bale instead of Young

I'd replace Boyata not McAuley. If you're replacing Rambo with Bale it leaves you with .3, so maybe just switch to Wilko, and then, when you swap Ba to Studge you can get Brown in (or just keep Boyata until then and save a transfer)

Yep. It looked to happen in quite slow motion so it's possible there isn't as much damage as there could been if the knee was jerked suddenly. one thing is for sure, his leg isn't meant to bend that way.

I doubt fatigue is an issue, well not physically - I'd expect some changes but usual suspects:

Lindegaard; Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani; Rooney; Welbeck.

I'd avoid Welbeck, I said I'd make my decision after the CL, and I have, United can't hit a barn door unless it's left open for them to walk through. Get the Yak in instead and I agree ditch Santos, the 1 million you save on Yak over Danny gives enough for Verm.

Just read the post regarding the twitter rumour abiut Gary Speed and Big Dunc, must be tosh.
    ..
    a) If it were true I doubt Ferguson would have had the front to stand in the centre circle for the tribute with Speeds other former team mates and

    b) If the source knew him and worked for a paper, he would either keep his gob shut as a mate, or sell it to the paper, not twat it about for nothing.

Fair points, but regarding A, it would almost look more weird and attract attention if he didnt join the rest of the team?

And for B, maybe it was already sold to the paper and then someone got mouthy down the pub

We might never know. Strangely though, it would almost be more comforting if it came out that is was something like this rumour.

Extremely unsettling to think that a man can feel driven to that action with no particular reason....

It's more than likely a load of horseshit, but this is a classic example of how dangerous things like twitter are. One numpty starts a baseless rumour and suddenly it takes flight. Can you imagine (if its untrue) how horrific it would be to be Speed's wife or kids and hear that kind of stuff? I hope slander laws apply to nomark numpties like the gobshite who started that rumour.

Twitter isnt for rumours, twitter is for slagging off the X-Factor and hosting World Cup themed Fantasy Football tournaments 🙂

    a) Ramsey + Drenthe > Nani + Formica/Whelan - 4pts
    b) Ramsey > Walcott (Drenthe stays)

If I do A I'd have up to 5.4 to spend on a MF, not great prospects but I figure Formica (5.0) might be the best of a bad banch with his reasonable fixtures that rotate perfectly with Dyer, so I could play one of those two each week until WC. Any other dirt cheap MF I've missed or is the whole idea totally barmy?

With the Vidic injury seriously damaging the man utd defence, and the lack of central midfielders, anyone think that Jones will make the defensive midfield spot his own, at least until January? I reckon they will probably play:

    Smalling, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra
    Jones

    What do you think?

There is a good chance. Evans played something like 9/11 at the start of the season because of various defensive injures. Could easily happen again unless SAF opts to have Jones at RB and Smalling CB with Evans on the bench

Not sure it will. Their defensive problems seemed to come because they were changing the line-up every week. I still think its vital to have a settled back four (when possible). Look at the toon defence this year. Both full backs are average at best, but because they have been settled all season we've had the best defence in the league. Having the best two performing centre backs (up until last week!) helped as well!

Mmm don't know about that one....Helguson and Ba are in form, Ba has better fixtures. If you need differentials keep Helguson cause everyone has Ba.

Silva is a keeper and fixture proof, Adam plays more like a 7m mid so you would be downgrading. Nani complements Silva pretty good too fixturewise.

So basically if you are going to take a hit for this I would not do it cause at the end both set of players will even up.

Everton has an awesome schedule coming up and I also want to get my hands on one of those midfielders but including Rodwell. It's up in the air I guess cause Drenthe could have had a lucky patch and Felllaini, Osman and Rodwell are sort of the same fantasywise. If all the same and when in doubt I would go with the cheapest option cause no one is really standing out here.

All in all your team looks very strong and your bench is spot on. It's a team to keep for the rest of the season! I am not sure about Sturridge though....if he doesn't perform then you have Ba, Yakubu, Helguson, Morison, Graham, Fletcher as options depending who is in great form.

Yep. Please get rid of Ferguson though followed closely by Evans(if he doesn't start this weekend)

Doh! 0.1 off my planned Saylor & Drenthe to Smalling & O'Hara moves.

Shitsticks. Ach well, I'll hold off for now.

Doubt he'd play enough to make it worth it.
Might just get someone cheaper than S Taylor and upgrade my cheap and nasty mid.

Pilkington or Eagles if you really want Smalling?

Not a bad suggestion. Will mull it over. Cheers.

So, do we think Jones is likely to play the holding role in midfield from now on?

Give it a couple more weeks and he might be playing in attack......

He will still be shifted around I think. Another man gone at the back could see him play RB with Smalling at CB

"Nani is the only our best player last night" - so guarantee he will start this weekend?
thinking of doing Ramsey > Nani for point hit.

He will play definitely. I wouldn't get him for a hit though, wait a week IMO

I got a gut feeling MU will smash WOL 2 or 3 goal. Considering to give the armband to Nani also. ARS vs EVE surely low scoring game i think..

Don't give into the rhetoric on here. United have no form to go buy in terms of attack. It would be far too risky to captain Nani. Wait till you see evidence before giving someone the captains armband. Even buying Nani is a risk let alone captaining him

Anybody else sorely tempted by Maxi Rodriguez? If I could be sure the guy would start even 3 of the next 5 games I think I'd bring him in. Liverpool have very nice fixtures coming up and when he starts I always fancy the man for a goal. 9 goals in his last 10 starts I think it is. That's impressive even if it's skewed by the hat-tricks. He's probably too much of a rotation risk but I'd really love to bring him in.

I brought him in last week instead of Walcott and was mildly fuming to say the least

That said, with Spearing banned now and another poor attacking performance I would say he is defo on for a start against QPR

I'll stick with him for a bit. God knows there are very few differentials going about at the moment

Same but he isn't exactly the natural replacement for Lucas/Spearing

Granted, but we're now looking at picking a front six from only nine recognised mids and forwards, and one of them is Shelvey who is probably well down the pecking order, one of them is Suarez who could well be banned, and one is Carroll who is just not delivering at all on any level

Kenny doesnt have much to play with.....

The problem is that he is effectively competing with Downing, Bellamy, Kuyt and Carroll in a sense. Only 2 of those 5 can start. And that's before Gerrard comes back into the equation.

Perhaps if Adam shifts to a more DM role then that could open up a space for Maxi
