Leicester begin with a bang, Spurs with a whimper and Sergio Aguero like he’s never been away as Wednesday’s Champions League action provides mixed fortunes for our Fantasy assets.

Aguero issues chilling reminder

It might have been 24 hours late, but the wait was worth it for everyone bar the hardy German fans who stuck around to watch their side taken apart by Pep Guardiola’s City.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) hit a hat-trick and Kelechi Iheanacho (7.0) came off the bench to complete a rout in which City outshot their opponents by 23 efforts to three and had 11 attempts on target to Monchengladbach’s one.

Assists came from Aleksander Kolarov (5.9), Raheem Sterling (8.3), Leroy Sane (7.8) and debutant Ilkay Gundogan (5.4), who replaced the injured David Silva.

The extent of the Spaniard’s problem was played down by Guardiola post-match.

“It is not a big problem but enough for him not to play. I don’t know if he will be in time to play against Bournemouth.”

Guardiola otherwise stuck with the team as announced on Tuesday, suggesting possible weekend starts for the rested Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy (both 5.4) and Nolito (9.0).

Gundongan didn’t do his claims for inclusion any harm either, with Guardiola effusive in his praise.

“Ilkay had three or four months out. He was so intelligent. He’s an amazing player and he’s going to help us a lot this year. We’re so happy to have him with us.”

With Aguero just one more league match away from serving out his suspension, and Iheanacho scoring in the meantime, Guardiola has plenty to keep him content at the moment.

One thing is certain – Aguero hasn’t lost any of his sharpness whilst he’s been absent from first team duties. Bournemouth will be thankful that he sits out Saturday’s encounter, us Fantasy managers will continue to ponder how we plan for his return.

Man City XI: Bravo, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Stones, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Navas, De Bruyne, Gundogan (Clichy 81), Sterling (Sane 79) , Aguero (Iheanacho 83). Subs: Caballero, Sagna, Nolito, Sane, Clichy, Tasende, Iheanacho.

Mahrez clicks on Euro debut

Leicester’s Champions League bow couldn’t really have gone much better – a fine away win, a clean sheet and two much-needed goals for Riyad Mahrez (9.4).

The Foxes’ opener came from Marc Albrighton (5.3), before Mahrez scored from a free-kick, and later a penalty, after fouls on Jamie Vardy (9.9).

It was a welcome return to the Mahrez of last season, whose patchy domestic form prompted us to question his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) value prior to the match.

Claudio Ranieri later revealed that he wanted new signing Islam Slimani (8.5), who looked lively throughout, to take the spot kick instead of Mahrez – bad news for the 17.7% of FPL managers hoping Vardy might have been back on penalty duties.

“Yes, maybe the music woke him (Mahrez) up. Maybe he is very tired, too tired of dilly ding, dilly dong and prefers the Champions League music. I tried to say Slimani because he is the penalty scorer but he has the personality to chose. If he doesn’t score I take the neck and I crush the neck. He took the responsibility.”

Albrighton’s goal came from a long throw by Luis Hernandez (4.4), in for Danny Simpson (5.0), with Ranieri deciding to rest his first-choice right-back despite declaring himself fit after limping off at Liverpool on Saturday.

“Danny Simpson, now he is trying to do something but in this moment I think why take a risk? We play every three days. All the matches for us are important. I risk him I could lose him for one month.”

In the end, he wasn’t needed. The hope now for FPL backers of Mahrez and Vardy is that they, and the team, can take their European form back home with them.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Hernandez, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Albrighton, Drinkwater, Amartey, Mahrez (Gray 81), Slimani (Ulloa 62), Vardy (Musa 70). Subs: Zieler, Chilwell, Musa, King, Gray, Ulloa, Wasilewski.

Spurs humbled in Wembley opener

Arsenal fans could have told them – not that their Spurs counterparts would have listened anyway – but playing your home Champions League ties at Wembley rarely ends well.

And so it proved, Tottenham gifting Monaco a two-goal lead before Toby Alderweireld’s header, from an Erik Lamela corner, gave them hope but no points from a frustrating encounter.

Spurs enjoyed 67% possession, had twice as many attempts as their opponents and three times the number of shots on target and yet laboured against a Monaco side in-form and in clinical mood.

The same could not be said of Harry Kane (10.9), who broke his scoring duck in the league last week but still looked shorn of confidence and mobility.

The hope for the 14.4% of FPL managers sticking by the England striker is that the return of Mousa Dembele (5.5), who came on at half-time for the ineffectual Heung-Min Son (7.4), will allow both Kane and Dele Alli (8.3) greater attacking freedom.

Despite his assist, Erik Lamela’s (7.1) strong start to the season seems to be on the wane. Given just 36 minutes against Stoke last weekend, the Argentinian midfielder struggled at Wembley and was at fault for Monaco’s opening goal.

Owned by 13.1% in FPL, his place in the team could be under threat if boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to accommodate Dembele, Son and new man Moussa Sissoko (7.0) in a busy midfield.

Another key FPL asset, the 25.3%-owned Kyle Walker (5.7), played the full 90 minutes. Given Pochettino’s penchant for resting his full-backs after European nights, his involvement in Sunday’s home fixture with Sunderland could be in doubt.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier (Sissoko 81), Alli, Son (Dembele 45), Eriksen, Lamela (Janssen 71), Kane. Subs: Vorm, Janssen, Wanyama, Trippier, Sissoko, Dembele, Carter-Vickers.

I'm not sure if B is better but if you can get virtually the same team with a hit and a wc definitely definitely do not waster your wc!

It's the same midfield yes, but the big difference is lukaku. Need to tinker with defence to fund it. With B, I would like Snograss but that's extra transfers

Is Capoue the new Mahrez or Ali? In terms of price and fantasy potential, not skills. I constantly try to find best option for fourth midfielder. I already have Ozil, Hazard and Antonio. But maybe Capoue is best option in price range from 4.5 to 7.5. I have him from 1st GW, as fifth midfielder, and i didn't select him once for midfield of 4. I remember him from Spurs days, he was defensive midfielder. Honestly, i didn't watch Watford this season, and that's why he is enigma to me. But i plan to watch them against Utd on sunday. I want to see where he plays, how he moves, his passing. I don't care if he picks up some points or not, his role in team can persuade me to use him as fourth midfielder. And then i could use him as fourth midfielder and use extra 2 or 3 millions when i downgrade my new fifth midfielder to upgrade my defence or attack.

No. Hes a good 5th mid but not a good 4th mid. If you want a cheap 4th mid then Snodgrass looks your man

He's your 4th mid option if you want aguero, ibra and lukaku upfront. If not then you can afford him as 5th

Too early to definitively say. He's looked pretty decent in his first few games from an attacking sense. However! Watford have great fixtures after the Utd game, which is why many are considering him

Popular topic, i would say he's new Yaya. Important for the team, good upcoming fixtures, involved, too bad he's not the only one on the set pieces. Have decent strikers to finish, also player like Deeney can provide assists.
Playing Etienne from gw8 is something worth considering, even without extra 3 mil

How important do we think an Arsenal player (attack and defence) is?

My Aguro wildcard is lacking in the gunne, and with such nice fixtures...

    Foster Heaton,
Williams, Holebas, Pieters, Evans, Robertson (4.5 from Hull)
    Hazard, Firmino, Antonio, Bolasie, Capoue,

True, would be nice for one of them they - feels odd having liverpool and Everton players despite them not being in the top 4 challengers (Liverpool fan)

Pieters is ropey, but my dream is he is close to dropping and 4.4 is quite nice for a stoke defender.

I would downgrade one of Heaton or Foster to a 4m. Then you wont have a goalkeeper headache plus more money itb.

I've always liked rotating keepers even if it hasn't gone as well as I'd like. A goalkeeper transfer is such a waste if someone drops, and the Krul/Elliot double has really put me off it.

Pickford is a great shout though. And both would have to be dropped. Don't see that happening

What do y'all think of this long-term team? Considering finalizing it next GW.

    Cech Jakupovic
    Walker Valencia Williams McAuley Love
Capoue Cazorla Mane Antonio De Roon
    Lukaku Ibra Kun

Would be bringing in (Mane, Cazorla and Kun) for [Hazard, Sanchez, Negredo] to make this happen (-8)

    G2g?

    Right, I'm decided now...

    Foster / Jaku
    Baines / Valencia / Stones / Amat / Kelly
Hazard / Firmino / Cazorla Antonio / Capoue
    Aguero / Lukaku / Benteke

If Antonio rises or Pieters drops, then Kelly becomes Kingsley and I'll have to double up Swans defenders.

£0.0 in the bank - I am a happy man with that squad.

I agree, but as I've said before I'd have to lose Cazorla, Benteke, Lukaku and Baines - they'll score more than having Ibra in my team and their replacements of Pieters, Snodgrass and a 6.5m FWD.

Okay, how important is an 0.1 increase in price.
I have Payet and Antonio is about to rise by 0.1.
Realistically to get Aguero in I need to do the Payet -> Antonio swap next week anyway as this will free up enough balance.
This can be done this week for no hit.
Even if I believe Payet will outscore Antonio do I swap now to gain that rise?

Depends if you need the .1 elsewhere. If it's free and you have no other transfers than are required then go for it.

        Foster Jakupovic
        Monreal Williams Walker/Valencia Amat Kingsley
        Ozil Hazard Firmino Antonio Capoue
        Kun Lukaku Diomande
Planning for 3-5-2 and i think Lukaku will match Ibra's points for next 5-6weeks or so.

        A) Firmino and Bolasie
        B) Mane and Snodgrass

        Bolasie's fixtures are much nicer.

Bonus nugget of info: Lots of people seem to have missed Ranieri saying that Slimani is now the Leicester penalty taker, despite Mahrez taking the ball from him last night.

“If he hadn’t scored i’d take his neck and crush his neck! He took the responsibility. I tried to say Slimani because he’s a penalty scorer. But he took the responsibility and scored. He was a lucky man!" - Ranieri

I certainly wouldn't consider Mahrez to be nailed on for pens. It's unpredictable for now.

        Benteke & Fischer > Lukaku & Capoue
        Will cost me 4pts.

Fischer was a gamble that has cost me .3m so far, he needs to go.
Both Lukaku & Capoue are set to rise again!
Not jumping on the Lukakue Bandwagon last season cost me my mini league.
