A Tottenham reject playing in a Tony Pulis team storms the Gameweek to turn heads on a remarkable day of goals and drama generated from just five matches.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola’s irresistible force steamrollered Bournemouth, as the points flowed at the Etihad. While Romelu Lukaku kept his stock soaring via a feather touch strike from a shoelace. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s events…

One The Rise

Nacer Chadli
The Belgian’s arrival at Hawthorns was overlooked by most Fantasy managers, due in the main to the Baggies’ perceived lack of attacking threat.

We wondered if Chadli could change that – today he proved he could – almost single-handedly.

A staggering 21-point return announced his arrival as a midfield mid-price option. The fact he claimed spot-kicks from Salomon Rondon is also a huge plus.

We expect to transfer traffic heading his way, though a knock in the second-half will likely temper early investment.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan woke from his slumber to finally deliver on the promise suggested by his early season attacking statistics. He’s now scored four goals in his last seven league starts.

Today’s 10-point returns provided a boost that has Rondon challenging at the very top in terms of value up front.

The loss of penalty duties to Chadli is a blow, however.

Christian Fuchs
Four assists and 25 bonus points last season, the Austrian is underway in this campaign with a 12-point haul in the win over Burnley.

Fuchs’ creative numbers were outstanding, illustrating his potential to return big rewards once we can be convinced that Claudio Ranieri’s rearguard can offer some resilience.

Islam Slimani
The Algerian announced himself with a brace against the Clarets to underline his potential in the 8.5 price bracket.

Right now, with our forward slots reserved for big hitters, Slimani will struggle to earn investment, but it’s clear that he can be a prospect and that he’ll potentially dent Jamie Vardy’s goal output.

Kevin De Bruyne
Again, he was the architect of City’s victory.

Five matches in and already it’s clear that De Bruyne has adjusted to his new role and has found a way of ensuring he justifies his 10.5 price tag; he’s now the FPL’s leading points scorer.

However, as we clamour to bring Sergio Aguero back into our squads, and with Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard to consider, it’s difficult to see how we find the budget to acquire his services.

Raheem Sterling
To be fair, the De Bruyne option suffers because of Sterling’s current form and output.

Like the Belgian, he’s now returned in four of his five Gameweeks, and there is just one point between them.

At 8.3 and with his starting role seemingly assured after another electric display, it’s difficult to question Sterling as the go-to City midfield option given the 2.3 saved.

İlkay Gündoğan
As we look for any means of covering Manchester City’s attacking prowess, Gündoğan has presented himself as a potential “budget” route at 5.4.

The German is currently playing more advanced than expected but will likely drop deeper once David Silva returns to fitness.

But, for now, Gündoğan demands to be monitored.

Kelechi Iheanacho
The Nigerian’s stock is treated to one last nudge before it inevitably plummets on the return of Sergio Aguero in Gameweek 6.

The 19-year-old has exceeded expectations again – when he plays, he provides goals and assists. However, for all Pep Guardiola’s praise, it seems certain that he’ll return to a cameo role once Aguero is back in contention.

Alexis Sanchez
Sanchez had scored four and assisted twice against Hull City in the last four and the Chilean returned to Humberside to fill his boots again.

It could and should have been a bigger haul following a missed first-half penalty.

While the mystery as to why he snatched duties from Santi Cazorla will rumble on, when the dust settles, Sanchez will be found amongst the top scoring midfielders and is still being deployed up front by Arsene Wenger.

He’s jumped above Cazorla, the Liverpool midfield, and Eden Hazard to suggest that he warrants the 11.0 outlay.

With a run of superb fixtures to follow the Chelsea clash, affording Sanchez, while finding room for Aguero, looks to be a major dilemma.

Alex Iwobi
The 20-year-old chained together 13 starts last season once he broke into Arsene Wenger’s plans and his performance at Hull hinted that he could be prominent again.

Iwobi is worth monitoring ahead of the Gunners’ kind fixtures.

Theo Walcott
As is Walcott.

We’ve been here before, of course. Stung by inconsistency and his inability to cement a starting role, we’re hesitant to consider Walcott, even with a kind 7.5 price tag. But he has started all five matches and his 13-points today can’t be totally ignored.

Michail Antonio
The fifth goal in his last four Premier League starts, Antonio took another step towards essential status.

The 7.2 option has enjoyed a net ownership boost of almost 350,000 over the last three Gameweeks, and that looks destined to continue.

While he’s producing goals, Dimitri Payet remains a peripheral figure in our thinking, despite his undoubted qualities. The Frenchman provided both assists today.

Robert Snodgrass
A third goal of the season proved little more than a consolation but, potential confirmation of his penalty duties for Hull City is nevertheless significant.

Abel Hernandez was not on the pitch when Snodgrass fired home but, given his form, there’s every chance that Snodgrass could maintain those duties.

Only Etienne Capoue has offered stronger FPL value within the midfield ranks so far this season.

Romelu Lukaku
There’s no question that Lukaku was fortunate to claim his goal in the win over Middlesbrough – providing the merest of touches to a Yannick Bolasie curling cross.

But the points remained in place to ensure that Lukaku has returned 29 points during Sergio Aguero’s absence.

A second-half knock is a mild concern; that may just stem the flow of future transfers and convince those who swapped him for Aguero to make the trade back.

However, Lukaku has shown enough over the last two Gameweeks to suggest that it’s a decision that should not be taken lightly. Everton’s fixtures remain very healthy.

Seamus Coleman
Back on the scoresheet to counter the fact that Everton shipped a first-half goal, Coleman demonstrated that he can again challenge Leighton Baines as the full-back of choice in the Toffees ranks.

For now, however, we’ll stick with Baines, at least until Everton penalty duties are confirmed.

Ross Barkley
Retained in the Everton line-up by Ronald Koeman following a miserable showing at Sunderland, he repaid that faith with an improved performance.

While Fantasy returns were missing, Barkley’s underlying numbers were encouraging, although with Yannick Bolasie returning a second Everton assist, it’s clear that there is now another option in the Toffees midfield ranks.

Yannick Bolaise
That assist is enough to maintain our interest in the DR Congo winger – priced at 6.0, Bolasie has clear potential as an Everton option for those unable to consider Lukaku up front.

Eldin Jakupovic
The 4.1 keeper option continues to cling to his start and continues to go on delivering for his owners.

We’re uncertain on how long he can retain his place with David Marshall pressing but today’s penalty save will have done his cause little harm.

In Decline

Santi Cazorla
Booked and hooked on 66 minutes, it was the fact that Cazorla surrendered penalty duties to Alexis Sanchez that hurt his blossoming ownership.

The logic appeared to be missing – Cazorla had fired home his last two spot-kicks, so when Sanchez strode up to miss – there seemed to be no rhyme nor reason as to why the Spaniard had stepped down.

Any doubt on spot-kick duties would be a major blow to Cazorla’s potential as a means of covering Arsenal’s attack ahead of their obliging run of opponents.

Nolito
The Spaniard had started the season strongly and was tipped to provide returns against Bournemouth. He provided an assist, but the foolish second-half dismissal soured that.

A ridiculous act given the scoreline, Nolito will now sit out City’s next two league encounters.

John Stones
Rested to the bench by Pep Guardiola, the decision arrived in the week that Vincent Kompany returned to contention, and with the Manchester City boss discussing his central defensive options.

It also coincided with City’s first clean sheet of the season – a major frustration for his 30% ownership.

Guardiola’s back four is currently looking like a no-go, with rotation now biting in central areas and also at full-back.

The West Ham Defence
But no defence can match the condition of West Ham’s right now.

With 11 goals shipped in their last three league outings, Slaven Bilic has some major issues to address which may see him revise his formation.

Much as the Hammers’ boss will hate to reduce Antonio’s goal threat, a shift back to a three-man backline with wing-backs could yet be on the cards.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Benteke matches Ibra tomorrow then it just feeds into the "sell Ibra" argument. Really it's less about what Ibra does and more whether Lukaku/Benteke can even come close to keeping pace.

Lukaku and Benteke can't get 200+ points. Aguero and Ibra can. For this reason, I'm not able to bring myself to sell Ibra. But so many people are. And remember Lukaku was very lucky to get 12 points today

Plus it's not like Lukaku just got one flukey goal. He scores quite a bit. One of only a few players to get 50 PL goals before the age of 23, along with Fowler, Owen, Rooney and Ronaldo.

He has a reputation as a troll here but he's actually rather good.

I know, he was fantastic against Sunderland in the second half. But both Sunderland and Middlesbrough were terrible at defending. You just knew Everton were gonna score today 15 minutes into the game. Can he deliver against better teams? I'm not sure just yet.

            Lukaku + Sanchez = 20m.
            Ibra + 8.5m (can afford Sterling/Antonio + 1.5) = 20m

There's a good chance they can beat them yes. Lukaku and Sanchez are both streaky.

Ah but that's one of the benefits of losing Ibra: You have the flexibility to hop on the likes of Sanchez and Lukaku when they're on a streak and then switching to someone else (Benteke, Bony, Hazard, KDB, Payet, whoever) when they're not. Basically the argument Mark made on the last Scoutcast.

I am thinking that getting DeBruyne as City's attack cover is best and save the $ over Aguero to have Sanchez as well; Lukaku, Ibra and sub 7.5 Striker; Ship Hazard with tough run of fixtures ahead.

    Firmino vs Payet.

Already own Antonio, part of plan to get Aguero. Payet involves sacrificing Bellerin to a max 6.0m defender for a -4pt hit. Both have lush fixtures.

    Which do you prefer?

Firmino is nailed on in one of the best attacking sides with great fixtures. West Ham are not on quite the same level.

Owning more than one player from a team can backfire big time

I had triple everton defence yesterday. So yeah its better to spread the risk. And obviously firmino can easily outscore payet.

Going Payet over Ozil on WC 2 weeks ago has gained me 23 points 😯

If I didn't get Payet on WC I would've captained Haz for 1x2, instead I captained Payet for 9x2.

    Payet(18) + Haz(1) = 19 vs Haz(2) + Ozil(2) = 4

    = + 15

    Payet(10) vs Ozil(2) = + 8

Aguero HAS to be brought in and captained. He is undroppable.

Ibra's output may be good but he's just not value for money. The other strikers need to only come close to his scores to justify dropping him.

I find these 2 trains of thought contradictory, but it seems to be very popular. I wonder why?

        This.

When Aguero and Ibra blank they'll come out of the woodwork to offer an "I told you so", and when they bring in a massive captain's haul they'll come out of the woodwork to tell you how they're still not value for money.

yeah but I don't know about you but I'd hardly ever captain anyone else when Kun is fit. If you see yourself mixing up the captain choice a lot, then fair enough, Ibra is probably worth it then. For me, nah.

That's the thing isn't it. You don't see yourself captaining anyone else, so u say that Aguero is value while Ibra isn't. Thats a paradox. U have to think objectively on this.

And Costa had a 12 pointer while Aguero had a 13 pointer. I'm not saying that costa is as exclusive as Kun, but when he's in this form, he's really good.

Aguero's highest PPG in EPL has been around 6.8. Costa's scores this season of 5,5,5,12,6 matches that.

That is not a paradox at all. Makes perfect sense to me.

That's just silly. Costa has got returns in every game so far but only has one score above 6. Whe Kun scores he gets 8-9 points compared to Costa 5-6.

Costa is matching that and he is in excellent form. He won't be on form for the whole season. In this form, he should be beating that comfortably.

I thought you preferred the consistency of points. And costa right now, is doing just that.

Form is a big factor, yes, but Aguero has had runs of barren spells as well.

Anyway, the discussion was good. Cheers

BTW, I think it is a viable option to go without Kun this season. Only if you have Ibra, Hazard and Sanchez who are the next best captain options.

I'm taking the "safe" route with Kun and will be captaining him almost every week which makes him worth it.

I do think it is ridiculous that you are already calling Ibra a better captain choice than Kun and I believe Costa is a poor choice as for him to get more than 6 points he usually has to get more than a goal.

I'd imagine most people feel Aguero is a better FPL player than Ibra, a more reliable captain choice and plays for a more attacking team. Simply the best player in FPL terms.

Once you accept that then owning Ibra too loses some lustre as, all things being equal, you'd captain Aguero over him.

      1. The Fantastic Mr Fox
        • 11 Years

        1. Their FPL points have been identical in the first 3 games, and Ibra scored in the 4th which Kun missed.
        2. Therefore Kun isn't a better captain choice, you could say they r level or Ibra better.
        3. Yes aguero plays for a better attacking team, but Ibra is the focal point at United, takes close range FKs as well, and is a major goal threat on corners.

Him being 1 mil cheaper (assuming ur buying him now), he's a fantastic captain choice who gives money to spend elsewhere

Kun isn't a better captain choice because of 3-4 games? hahahahahaha what 😆

Antonio has 11, 7, 13, 7 in his last, we should be captaining him every week!

You're basing your opinion of Zlatan as an FPL pick off four games, whereas Aguero has years of outstanding returns backing him.

All things being equal, I think most people would pick Aguero.

Community shield game was against the champions as well. And 2 goals there. Zlatan has the pedigree. One look at his career shows that. The doubt was whether the PL would be tough for him at his age.

Five games so far have shown that he's supremely fit for his age, and he can boss PL defenders as well. I'm not trying to antagonise anyone, but the only thing which Zlatan doesnt have compared to Aguero is a 4 seasons in FPL. And if thats a criteria, you can never move onto a better pick until he plays a season or 2 in EPL. Amd thats a waste of an opportunity

He mentioned 4 games, but he's not thinking about 4 games. Ibra has a much, much better history than Aguero, so don't take any argument against him in that direction 😉

Based on their careers, Zlatan matches him easily. You can ignore his time at PSG since it's not one of the Elite leagues. Last season at AC Milan, Zlatan had 28 goals in 32 games. More than Aguero has managed in 5 seasons in EPL, despite playing more games twice

Well , Zlatan's most past achievements mean little to me as he is 34 years old and declining by the day. His PSG stint was perhaps boosting his true level as you say...how do know he is the same 27 year old that was an elite striker?

Aguero is undoubtedly the best FPL player of the past 2-3 years , he is at peak age , playing under Guardiola with the likes off KDB , Sterling , Silva and Gundogan (compared to Pogba , Rooney , Martial and Mata) ..... not a debate for me

I am saying that with Ibra you are HOPING for him to produce Aguero levels of production. With Aguero , you EXPECT that level. If Ibra does produce at the level , fair play to him but I prefer Aguero atm.

I am going to re-phrase this as I got a bit rude and ignorant.

Aguero's past record in the PL makes me believe he is the best striker in FPL.
Ibra has been getting the FPL points atm but I am not entirely sure he maintains it. I can make a case against him but not against Aguero.

Smashed the physical tests at United. Ibra does acrobatic football like no other player in the world. He will annually score goals that very few players can achieve once in a lifetime. He will get assists that other players would never attempt. It's just great football.

Having a terrible start to the season. Wouldn't mind some help. My team is as follows

    Foster. Heaton
    Koscielny. Friend. McAuley. Pieters. Daniels
    Hazard. Capoue. Mane. Antonio. Barry

If you don't want to burn a WC, id probably look at a negredo and hazard -> to Kun and Snodgrass for this week. Then the week after I would swap out one of your defenders, probably Kos for someone cheaper to get more funds to address Barry the week after that. Don't think you need to take hits unless you didn't come into this week with a banked FT, in which case I would probably take a -4 to do that.

Appreciate your reply buddy. Hazard to Snod will still put me 1.5 short for Negredo to Aguero. I don't mind using my WC if it helps. Thinking of going with Ibra + Aguero up top with a cheap 3rd forward in order to help get more heavyweights in the midfield. Surely, I need to consider Sanchez, KDB/Sterling along with the likes of Antonio + Capoue

Like this. Ibra-less is very tempting and will judge vs Watford. Was toying with a few differences too, mainly upgrading Deeney to Costa and having Capoue as 4th mid....

      Foster l Jakupovic
      Walker l Williams l Holebas l Amat l Kingsley
      Sanchez l Antonio (or Lallana) l Sterling l Capoue l 4.4
      Kun l Lukaku l Costa

I can't see myself going without a Liv mid. I am also not sold on Capoue as 4th mid. I don't think he can keep scoring as he does now.
Costa is also a worry, not far from a ban... And Deeney's fixture are just too good to ignore imo.

I think upping Williams to Baines/Coleman will really pay off. He won't be getting the bonus there with those two's crossing/goals/assists. That being said, I'm sure you don't want to scrape any more funds around there. Antonio is essential for me. I would downgrade Valencia, their fixtures are rubbish.

They should be ok by the sounds of things.

Probably the biggest concern is Lukaku as he is a big strong lad and was obviously hurt enough to have to come off early instead of being able to play through it.

Reports suggest Firmino could have played but didn't more as a precaution, so I'd be very surprised if the injury was anything to keep him out long term.

Don't know much about Chadli's knock, but wouldn't be surprised if he came off as a precaution and to protect him as the match was wrapped up by then.

You should get news on all 3 by Tuesday morning the latest I'd imagine.

    A) Santi & Haz -> 2 of Sterling/Firm/Payet
    B) Haz & Tekkers -> Barry & Kun(c)
    C) Haz & Tekkers -> Firm/Sterling & Lukaku

    Baines, Valencia, Kone

Lukaku has played 1 less game and is 1 point behind.
      Current form says Costa.

I'm stuck here boys. I can do a (-4) to get Kun back in, but that means getting a bench fodder and playing Capoue as 4th mid. With a (-8) it involves getting rid of both Sanchez and Hazard to make a midfield more stable. Any help? I'm ok with taking a -8 this week.

For whats its worth im going the Capoue playing 4th route.
Hazard and Chelsea playing poorly, hard fixtures plus a front line of Kun, Ibra and Lukaku have decided it for me.
Not hard to shift Ibra/ Lukaku later and upgrade the 5th mid if needed

So, will Sanchez's penalty miss pass them back to Cazorla? I had to sell Sanchez (after a single week) to bring Aguero back (his price wasn't going to stay at 12.9 for long, even after a tiny drop from 1.1 million sales, it will be 13m by tomorrow). I was watching both the City and arsenal matches last night, and whilst City looked like they were a dominant side having fun, Arsenal looked laboured, devoid of ideas, and entitled. Sanchez looked to be on a different wavelength to the rest of the team, and the scoreline massively flatterd them. City on the other hand should have had more than 4 goals, but Sterling (from 70 mins onwards) looked finished. Once Sterling stopped running, the team stopped scoring.

Therefore, I can't see Sanchez do too much next week against Chelsea, and Hazard has been a dissapointemnt for a few weeks now. the sensible mose is to sell a big mid to bring back Aguero, even for a -4 hit.

    i hope i am right!

I feel Payet has to be there. Next 4 is easiest of fixtures where goals will come. And Payet is always involved.

Keep Ibra and avoid double attacking from one team. Try to Antonio instead of Sterling.

Jogger--I agree the AoA is a rubbish chip (though I did Capoue in). Ever thought of a replacement. I thought a DC week, though maybe too close to 3xC. Maybe 3x keeper?

Hello FFS, I'm here after months. I need help.

    Foster Pickford
    Valencia Baines Evans Pieters Amat
    Haz Ozil Sterling Antonio Rodwell
    Ibra Lukaku Defoe

    0.1 in the bank

I plan to sell Haz/Ozil and get in Payet/Firmino so as to fund Kun. Any other way to get in Kun?

Also I feel Payet and Firmino very essential next 4-5 weeks

Do Haz to Firmino as you have Antonio. Ozil too good to not come good soon better fixtures than Haz too.

    B) Benteke & Kun

I know Kun is a monster, but with both in A firing perhaps it is justified to go without?
