We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

This team worth a -8 hit?

      Foster
      Valencia Williams Evans
      Sanchez Sterling Antonio Capoue
      Aguero Ibra Lukaku

      Jaku Amat Fletcher 4m

      Would be losing:

Benteke Haz Ozil Masuaku -> Aguero Sanchez Fletcher 4m

Have to pull trigger today to afford.

I would say yes, as i got rid of Benteke, Hazard, and Masuaku for a -4 hit last night. So i could bring in Aguero, Snodgrass, Robertson, and keep Sanchez and Ibra !

                (A) Antonio / Deeney (playing antonio, rotating deeney/capoue)
                or
                (B) Fletcher / Costa (playing costa and capoue)

(with Sanchez, Sterling, Firminho, Capoue, Aguero, Lukaku)

                    A. But just play Deeney. How would rotating Capoue and Deeney work? What would be the basis you made your decision on? Need to pick one and stick with them.

                    Hey guys,

Had a really slow start so on a WC.

This is what I have –

                    Foster (Jaku)
                    Holbas, Jagielka, Shaw (Amat, Kingsley)
                    Sterling, Capoue, Sanchez, Fletcher, Coutinho
                    Kun, Costa, Lukaku
                    0.0m in the bank.

                    Thoughts on how to improve?

Big decision seems to be Ibra or Sanchez.

If Ibra doesn't score a hatful v Stoke it's time to reconsider.

WC transfers in/out don't count to price changes, do they?

Then does FPLS include WC transfers in/out?

League and FA cup games if Sterling only if Sterling plays like he has. If he dips, you drop him anyway.

He's one of the best value players in the game right now. Will be in my wildcard side.

Plus I have Capoue on the bench to be blocked by a Sterling cameo if needed 🙂

Sterling has been involved in six goals in his six games for Man City in all competitions this season (2 goals, 4 assists).

Any chance Aguero doesn't rise tonight? Ideally I'll hold out for Costa to rise first, as that 0.1 is what allows me to afford Deeney.

if you need to give up on 1 of them from this Front 8 l, who would it be:

                          Sanchez - Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Capoue
                          Aguero - Lukaku - Deeney

It's relative of course, but out of Firmino, Coutinho and Mane, I'd say Cout is the biggest rotation risk. Pony up the 0.3m to get Firm

I've taken 3 hits this season already, and just did another two last night. Considering doing another one or two before the deadline rolls around too, but I might wildcard.

I don't know, I just really try to avoid wildcarding early in the season because we still don't know how things are going to go. Loads of people brought in Barkley and Lamela, plenty of them wildcarding in GW2, but look at how things have gone for the pair of them. For those of you that are prepared to take hits, at what point do you decide that it's too much and wildcard? I'm not adverse to a -4 at all, but more than that rarely works out, imo.

i'd happily take a 4 point hit if it improves the team, you'll likely get the points back in a week or two

i'm considering an 8 point hit today

I took 72 points worth of hits last season and am really trying hard to halve that figure this year. I WC'ed last week as my transfers out would have cost -28. Anything over -12 and I think it is definitely a case for WCing as long as you are setting yourself up for the mdeium/long term and are spreading the cash evenly between all the positions (excl. GK) Just my $0.02

Are we expecting too much from Kun? He already played 2 easy home games with City scoring 5 goals in them and he scored once and blanked once. Sterling has 5, 15 and 13 in his 3 home games. KDB showing blistering form since the Aguero ban? Ibra is yet to blank at home and already got double figures once. Still everyone is selling him. I know it is still a sall sample but I think a lot of people are expecting too much from Kun. Like a brace or hattrick every week or something. He won't score 40 or 50 goals a la Messi, Suarez or Ronaldo you know.

I kind of agree, but I think this will still be his best year yet. I don't think dropping Ibra is the right solution though, not ahead of 2 home games.

Lukaku and Costa are playing for better attacking teams and are a lot cheaper than Ibra.

Still a small sample size but I doubt Everton and Chelsea will end up scoring more goals than Utd. Especially Everton. Their fixtures have been so easy so far. Costa rarely scores more than 1 and is a baps repellent, card magnet as we all know.

Aguero is the best player in the league by a long stretch and will score loads of points.

I disagree with the long stretch part as I see Ibra superior but playing for a less stable and less attacking team. There are a lot of players that will score a load of points. Lukaku scored 17 and 12 (captained him for that myself) and still some people are selling him for Kun. Surely this means people are expecting Kun to exceed the 12pt mark on a semi-weekly basis or something which is not realistic.

Why can't he scored 35+ goals? City are going to be destroying teams at home this season, Pep has barely had 2 months and they already look excellent.

Rotation, injuries, CL to kick in, etc. 35+ goals in the epl is a very difficult feat. Hell it is difficult in any league.

Aguero has averaged a goal every 49 minutes so far this season under Pep

Would you ship either/both for Deeney, Rashford, Hernandez?

Wasn't planning to WC till later and plan was to bring in kun in gw8 using transfers...but team (esp def) is in tatters so too late to pull the trigger? already missed some of the price moves and souare/pieters already dropped in price....

                          - Def the biggest issue..

                          - happy with attackers for now
