Suspensions

Frank Lampard was the man on the spot last night – his penalty winner from the bench seeing off Manchester City’s unbeaten league record – but a combination of Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection and his presence on our Suspension Tightrope has seen Fantasy confidence stall. It’s worth noting however, that Lampard’s fourth yellow was picked up as long ago as October, and he’s played a part in seven domestic games without further reprimand since. In the meantime, it’s been Lampard’s Chelsea midfield team-mates who’ve been picking up their fair share of bookings, with yellows shown to both Ramires and Raul Meireles in last night’s win, meaning they now take up the less than comfy seats alongside Lampard on the tightrope.

There are also two new additions from Sunday’s games, where Blackburn’s old stager, Míchel Salgado; and Lampard’s England teammate, Scott Parker; both fell foul of the referee’s notebook in losses to Sunderland and Stoke respectively. That takes the tightrope numbers up to 14 players, nervously tip-toeing their way through the remaining four gameweeks until the five yellow card amnesty kicks in on New Year’s day. They will hope that they don’t go the way of Gabby Agbonlahor – who, as detailed in Saturday’s article, fell off the high wire and into a one-match ban for the round of fixtures in gameweek 16, when his Aston Villa visit Anfield.

Moving on to the weekend’s red cards – we’ve already covered Dan Gosling’s straight red for an over the top challenge on Norwich’s Russell Martin; that will see him miss the next three for Newcastle (SWA, WBA, bol). Since then, we’ve also seen Younes Kaboul given his marching orders for two yellow card fouls against Stoke on Sunday, and Gaël Clichy similarly dismissed for a pair of punishable indiscretions in the 2-1 away defeat last night. Both these players will be missing for their clubs for their next matches, Spurs at home to Sunderland, and Man City hosting Arsenal.

A final point to note is that Luis Suarez, who was originally given until 4pm yesterday to answer his latest improper conduct charge (the gesture to Fulham fans), has had this deadline extended while he prepares his defence. With the other long standing charge already hanging over him, there is currently no word yet on whether this one will run and run as well.

Gameweek 16 Bans

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) – 5 Yellow cards (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Third of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Gaël Clichy (Manchester City) – 1 Red for 2 Yellow cards (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)
  • Younes Kaboul (Tottenham) – 1 Red for 2 Yellow cards (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – 4 bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)

Why couldn't Lampard have shown us his flabby gut after scoring that penalty? Would definitely have brought in Mata vs Wigan if he's on pens after Frank!

The way every other horrible pensioner kick taker stepped in front of him for free-kicks? I mean seriously who even told Raul he was good at free kicks...and Dr. Ogba...

They SHOULD just let the Spaniard take all the kicks and stop trippin.

Thinking of doing this before any price changes, what do you think?

    Suarez + Ramsey > Sturridge + Nani

was planning on brining in Ba instead of Sturridge but just missed out due to price rise.

don't rate the Yak. Poor supply from a poor team. Sturridge may not be an out and out striker but the way chelsea play he gets and creates more chances than the Yak.

I really want to get Nani in and Ramsey out before it's not affordable. The only way i can do that really is to get rid of Saurez.

With Saurez suspension on the cards too.....

      +2.

I got lucky. Even though I didn't fancy United to keep clean sheets regularly with Vidic out I was all set to get Smalling & Jones, but was £0.1M short (and only wanted to double up, not spread the risk), so next on the list was Liverpool. So I've doubled on them. Agbongles out is cracking news.

One week of pain isn't so bad, they'll get enough points up over the course of 6 weeks I think.

Although, I've got Baines for that week, and probably get BAE in for one of the 'pool defenders anyways. So shouldn't be too bad.

    RvP, Ade, Ba

if you don't have Silva then Yaya is a steal.

if you do have Silva then the "downgrade" to Yaya still gives good MCI cover and frees up the cash to get another big hitting MF.

im thinking doing that transfer right now, but in order to spread that extra cash and upgrade elsewhere need to go -8. transfer would be Silva/Ramsey/Smalling OUT Mata/Yaya/Evans IN. and all that before mata price rising, couse at the moment it leaves me with 0.0M in the bank.

Ramsey -> Nani would leave me with 5.7m for Suarez's replacement. Not a lot there - Yak or Klasnic I guess? If I could get Ba or Sturridge then this is a no brainer 4 pointer, but for Yak/Klasnic I'm not sure....

I'd go for Walters over Yaya to be honest, his next 5 fixtures are really nice:

wolves man city ASTON VILLA WIGAN blackburn

apart from City, Stoke will fancy their chances for some points in that lot and Walters is a real try-hard, will probably play every game!

    Friedel - Ruddy
    Baines - Caulkner - Simpson - Shorey - Wilkinson
    VDV - Silva - Walters - Allen - Toite
RVP - Rooney - Ba 0.1 in bank, 2 free transfers!

    Players on my radar are:
Shotton (4m, oop, looks like good crosser & gets any cs stoke get)
Evans (cheapest route into last years champions defence)
Jones (looks so good in midfield, rivals have him and got forward alot @ weekend)
Mata (looks dangerous constantly, fks, penos!? oop )
Nani ( obvious reasons, but i have rooney )

I have 2 free transfers and would even be tempted t take 4pt hit to sort out team!
Can i ask for recommendations please and thanks...

I've dropped a whole 4 places this week to 7,468th. I reckon even 1bp for Sturridge would be enough to turn that into a green arrow.

Congratulations to 66 irons and his balls of steel in the FFS Cup. He defeated me through having the bravery to take an 8pt hit, draft in Rooney and captain him.

VDV looked a little lost at the weekend and also stopped taking corners and pens (hammy twinge?).

you might want to hold him for SUN at home but there is a (small) chance that Harry will bench him so that he's fully fit for the CHE game a few days later.

looks good. Kenny might be fit again, not that you'd play him this week anyway.

for future moves (assuming no injuries) I'd look at getting Dyer out, perhaps for Allen. Also, I dumped Brown (yes, I know, a bit Doctor Poo there!) because Sunderland are poor at the back. Lots of options at 4.5.

VDV/Ramsey/Suarez >>> Bale/Nani/Studge for a 4 pt hit? Would give nice team below:

    Hennessey
    Enrique - Simpson - Ntaylor
    Mata - Bale - Nani - Silva
    RVP - Ade - Studge
    (Vorm/Turner/Wilks/Dyer)

Most worrying thing about this is Luis Suarez suddenly hitting form & getting 10 PPG for the next 3 or 4 weeks after persevering with him through the last 5 weeks!
