West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

Which one is the better pick out of the three? Liverpool and Arsenal have good fixtures

    Morning all!

    Foster
    Valencia Williams Collins
    Sanchez Firmino Antonio Townsend
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

    Subs: Heaton, Watmore, Amat, Pieters

I've already made my transfer to bring in Rashford. The question is, should I replace Collins this week for -4? I normally wouldn't replace a defender for a hit but there's a strong chance 3 of my defenders will score 1 or less anyway.

If transferring out, who would you go for?

    Pickford (Jaku)
    Shaw Baines McAuley (Amat, Love)
    Sanchez Sterling Capoue Antonio Snodgrass
    Kun Ibra (Negredo)

    A: Shaw => Koscielny + Antonio => Lallana
    B: Shaw => Blind + Antonio => Coutinho
    C: Save transfer

    What do you think? Thx.

This is true but I wouldn't expect penalties every week. The way Liverpool are playing, I'd expect Lallana to create chances or get a few chances himself. He's in great form.

Anybody else feel this season may be slightly ruined if aguero keeps scoring at this rate? Injury free he could get 40 plus easy and every week you don't captain, let alone not own sets you further behind.

    It's all a bit boring.

Know what you mean, every so often there's that player that's standout captain material for 70% of games...

He is in double figures for the season in all comps and it's not even October yet

3 against Romanian opposition, and 3 against Borussia who only defended with 4 players.

He may have been the stand out pick, but Sanchez and Liverpool mids scoring well is hardly left field.

Aguero makes the game easier because you don't have to think about it, but he's not necessary, imo.

It's good, but (particularly if he gives returns tonight), I'd think twice about benching Capoue (vs. Bournemouth!) You don't want to bench any of them but considering the whole picture I'd say there's as much reason to bench Austin or Antonio now as there is Capoue.

    Foster (Heaton
    Stones, Friend, Francis (Pieters, Souare)

    Augero(VC), Benteke (Stuani)

Wait for injury news of Baines if u have 3 playing defenders then don't use FT and save it.Clean Sheets are hardly coming and it's better to save transfer if not have any issues elsewhere.

4.9m is a great price for a punt. Would only do it if on wc or your team is so good there is no other pressing issue

He's actually in my team. I wanted someone from Liverpool's defence and after Lovren rumours I chose him. Shame they didn't keep a clean sheet. 2 shots for Hull, 1 on target and 1 goal.

If I had just 0.1 more value I won't be in this situation but there it goes. Please help me solve this dilemma:

    1) Bolasie -> Lallana, but risk to have no Everton coverage in future after selling Lukaku around 2 weeks later

    2) Antonio -> Firmino/Mane, but risk not having Antonio over West Ham's comparatively easier stretch of fixture

    3) Bolasie -> Coutinho, but risk the inconsistency and injuries of Coutinho in future

    Thank you so much!

So, you have mentioned Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Mané. That amounts to "any Liverpool". I'd suggest that's not a good place to be.

Why don't you start by deciding which (if any) Liverpool midfielder you actually want. At least get it down to your 2 preferred options.

Then decide whether you are more comfortable losing Bolasie or Antonio and your decision is made. 🙂

For me, the Antonio to Mané option looks clear cut but then I never went for the Antonio hype. I mean, how many headed goals from set pieces can he be expected to score before opponents start to make specific plans to deal with that threat?

Thanks for the analysis. In fact the two people in my mind were Firmino and Lallana. The only set back is that I am 0.3 off the value to get both of them without taking an extra hit. And that extra hit is the reason why I am considering a Bolasie -> Coutinho straight up.

I think I am comfortable losing Bolasie as long as I still have Lukaku. Ditching Antonio in view of the coming fixture is less easy to swallow.

    Foster Jaku
    Valencia Baines Friend Mee Souare*
    Özil Firmino Barkley Antonio Capoue
    Kun Lukaku Gray*

1 ft. Is rolling WC to GW8 international break the smartest thing to do?

depends how badly you want sanchez....

Ideally yes i would use the 1FT to change Gray and then WC over international break but as i say Sanchez is looking essential and his price will rise again i think

  27. dashdriver

    Foster / Pickford
    Valencia / Stones / Williams / McAuley / Amat
    Sanchez / Firmino / Antonio / Chadli / Capoue
    Agüero / Lukaku / Benteke

Would you be looking at doing any transfers this week, or save up for the international break?

I want to get Sterling in there somehow, and about to lose my patience with Stones. Otherwise there is ovbiously Antonio and Chadli which need to be monitored, but I want to give them one more GW each for now.

Currently within 9K and WC played.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers.

I have the same front 8 (except Ighalo for Benteke). I would (and am planning) on holding and then doing Chadli > Snoddy for his good run of fixtures. Can then get rid of Stones too.

Ozil Hazard Ibra Benteke ---> Deeney Aguero Sanchez Firmino
