Monday morning sees the launch of our latest captain poll, canvassing your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) returned from a three-match suspension in style in Gameweek 6 with two goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus points away to Swansea, to reward the 45% in our Captain Poll who backed him with the armband.

Even though the 37.2% owned Manchester City striker faces a far tougher test this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, it would be no surprise to see him tussle at the top of this week’s poll as well.

The omens are certainly in his favour – Aguero has ten goals from nine appearances against Spurs.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) will likely be challenging Aguero at the top of the poll, after finishing a distance second to the Argentine in Gameweek 6.

A strong home fixture against a Stoke City side that has conceded 15 times this term, coupled with impressive underlying statistics, offer the big Swede a strong case for selection.

No other player has had more goal attempts than the 55.8% owned striker but interest may be tempered by his failure to register returns from the impressive 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His cut price team-mate Marcus Rashford (6.9) did manage to score against the Foxes, taking his taking to three goals in four Gameweeks. With more than 71,000 new FPL owners so far this week, he is also expected to garner captaincy interest.

Romeu Lukaku (9.3) will also be in the frame. Like Ibrahimovic, the 19.4% owned striker also blanked in Gameweek 6 as Everton slipped to a reverse at Bournemouth. But his Gameweek 7 opponents Crystal Palace have yet to chalk up a clean sheet ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has three double-digit FPL scores already this season and he looks an potentially effective differential captaincy option. With three goals and two assists in his last two road trips, it is little wonder that the Chilean has attracted more than 76,000 new managers ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Burnley this weekend.

The midfielders minefield at Liverpool is set to split the vote among their key contenders. Sadio Mane (9.0), the 30.3% owned Philippe Coutinho (8.2) and Adam Lallana (11.3) all offer solid options for the armband when they visit a Swansea City outfit that has conceded seven times across their three home fixtures this season. All three of this midfield trio scored at home to Hull City at the weekend to further boost their case.

Although their team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) failed to register any attacking returns against the Tigers, the 9.9% owned Brazilian’s strong underlying numbers, including topping Liverpool’s chance creation table this season, should give those keeping faith a degree of confidence. .

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

More and more mid range strikers coming to the party. Defoe/Rashford/Deeney/Rondon/Austin/Tekkers

Personally I can see me getting to Kun and two mid price options, leaving room for Sanchez, 2 x Pool mids, a quality 4th mid (currently Sterling) and Capoue. Also allows a decent defence. Lukaku will need to keep a decent rate up for me not to go this route...

Interesting price structure. More mid price strikers coming to the party than mids though. Contradicting the barrage of mid price midfield options available to us at the start of the season.

Yes - not long ago I was Kun/Ibra/Costa but I now think form and fixtures favour the move.

Basically Liverpool and Arsenal having got a bracketed striker firing and are finding plenty of goals from midfielders converted or otherwise - is there any need for them to change their systems at the moment?

Can you see yourself wanting Kane & Kun at some point, though?

The price of United's premium mids and Liverpool's has looked wrong to me since the game launched and it looks even dafter now. Martial 9.5, Coutinho 8.0.

I'm currently rolling Aguero Defoe Tekkers. As you day, decent value and options in the mid range forwards. Allows nice mid as well

    How does this WC look?

    ----------------Heaton---------------
    ----Williams--Evans--Smith-----
    Sanchez-Lallana-Antonio-Sterling
    -------Austin--Ibra--Aguero----------

Subs- Pickford - Capoue - Kone - Amat

    Need any changes?

    Thanks!!

Probably wouldn't have Antonio in there now. I'd have Mane + Snodgrass in for Lallana and Antonio I think. Also Ibra to Lukaku and a stronger defence, maybe an Arsenal def

Really stumped with GW7's captain choice.

Ibra - is "due" if I've ever seen a player "due" and he plays a good fixture. He is also the main pick for captaincy (leading the poll at the moment and most likely top captain pick for the 4m fpl players)

Aguero - fixture proof, on a crazy run. So hard to go against him even with a tough fixture. City scoring for fun.

Sanchez - top form, away with a decent fixture.

Forward 8 looking a shambles now after an early kneejerk WC.
    Ozil, Sterling, Zaha, Hazard, Capoue
Aguero, Costa, Diomande 1FT & 2.8 ITB... Whats the move?

    Thinking Diomande -> Rashford

Man don't do Ashford and coutinho. Get rid of costa and haz. One more yellow and costa I'd on a man, I mean he has four yellows in six games. Haz doesn't want to be at Chelsea. Watch him play like mad when transfer season is coming round,.like end of last year and start of this year. As soon as window close, boom, goes stale. Haz to Sanchez and costa to lukaku.. Or deeney. And why not take a minus 4or 8, I mean Sanchez, Ibra or deeney could get that this week and your debt is repaid and you've got a new team feelio too

Stones for Holebas is another option actually, you're right. His next 2 fixtures don't look great, and it would free up funds.

Then again, saving is also a realistic option - with West Ham in such bad shape, it's not unfeasible that Friend keeps a clean sheet, or grabs an assist.
On top of that, with Spurs not having Kane, can you see Stones keeping a clean sheet? I can.

I think Spurs will score, although there's always a chance of the clean sheet with City. Just think it's a matter of time with them. My main concern with Stones is the rotation that might be imminent.

Seeing everyone with top ranks and I just messed myself up by following an ownership tactic incorrectly. Oh well, still in the mix - the journey to the top starts now

What are people's thoughts on Antonio now? Really want a Liverpool mid but can't fit one in with my current team, could if I swap one for Antonio though. Seems a bit of a knee jerk considering the fixtures but there again expect more from a Liverpool mid in the long run.

    Foster
    McAuley Williams Valencia
    Capoue Sanchez Antonio Sterling
    Agüero Ibrahimovic Benteke

    Bench: Pickford Snodgrass Collins Amat

    Costa (C)?
Hull against top teams (bar United) have been hit for a good few goals in past weeks, home and away

Only considering this as I have no Ibra in my life 🙁

    My current captain choices,

    Sanchez (bad form recently)
    Amat (front runner)
    Aguero (not keen)

    Heaton
    Williams Lovren
    Capoue Firmino Sterling Sanchez Bolasie
    Lukaku Aguero Deeney

Good to go gents? Going AOA to get Capoue in ahead of a couple tough fixtured for benched defenders, clean sheets impossible anyway!!

    Captain the next issue.....

Its quite amusing watching all the non-Ibra owners coming in here trying convine themselves and others that Ibra is 'not the best' captaincry option or he is a 'one trick pony'

As a non owner let me tell you, he is by FAR the best captaincy option this week. Team on form, player on form, best stats in the league with goal attempts, on free kicks and pens plus central figure spearheading that attack. If thats enough they are playing Stoke who have coneded 15 goals and like second bottom. I could actually go on but feel I dont need to.

Its laughable people are disregarding him and trust me if he does well that 60% ownership will absolutely destroy us leaving us back to square one.

    Just my two cents 🙂

Team is far from on form. But I agree he is the best captaincy option, if I still had him no doubt I'd captain him

My two cents are that he will actually be a relative differential this week around the upper levels of the game.

He had 45.1% top 10k ownership at the opening of gw6 due to him not 'hitting' that will decrease and on top of that he is the most transferred out player this week.

I think we could be looking at a top 10k ownership of sub 40% and effective ownership including captaincy maybe around 70%.

Could be huge gains made if he hits and the other options don't.

      Exactly.

People without him are letting cognitive dissonance convince themselves they aren't worried

Agreed - also a non-owner. Bricking it this weekend - a big haul with 60% ownership will decimate plenty rankings.....
