With over 73,000 transfers out since Friday evening’s deadline, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) fire sale is gaining momentum.

From Gameweek 1-4, the Manchester United frontman blazed a trail and found the net on four occasions as Fantasy Premier League managers clambered on board the bandwagon.

In the past three league matches, which coincides with Marcus Rashford’s (6.9) return to the first XI, he has garnered just one assist.

As Jose Mourinho begins to solve the puzzle of how to integrate all the attacking talent at his disposal, Zlatan’s role appears to be changing. He’s becoming more of a front man around which the pace of Rashford and Jesse Lingard (5.7), the guile of Juan Mata (7.4) and the surges of Paul Pogba (8.3) can thrive.

All well and good, but do you really want to have 11.5 tied up in someone taking it for the team?

Let’s get one thing straight. Parting company with a player still owned by over 51% of FPL managers is by no means an easy call to make.

Over the last three Gameweeks, he is the top-ranked forward for attempts on goal (16), shots inside the box (12) and efforts on target (seven).

Those are hardly the statistics associated with an out-of-sorts striker.

Yet with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Chelsea up next, it’s no real surprise to see so many looking for alternatives up front.

Costing 11.9 as recently as Gameweek 5, his price dropped 0.4 in two rounds of fixtures. With an international break now upon us, Ibrahimovic could feasibly be sitting at 11.2 by the time United make their way to Anfield a fortnight this evening.

Recent weeks have seen the veteran drop to fifth in the forward standings, with Diego Costa (10.0) and Romelu Lukaku (9.4) moving into the top two slots.

The former has scored or assisted in six of his seven appearances under Antonio Conte and Lukaku has bagged five goals and an assist in five starts for Ronald Koeman.

Despite missing two matches through suspension, Aguero also sits above the Swede – the Argentine is also the top forward for points per match, with an average of 7.8 some way ahead of Ibra’s 5.3.

With so many appealing mid-price picks in the centre of the park, Ibrahimovic’s budget would go a long way to help strengthen our options.

Swapping him out for Lukaku, for example, would more or less free up the budget to draft in Tottenham’s in-form Heung-Min Son (7.6) for Etienne Capoue (5.2) as a fourth midfielder.

In a weekend where we saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez (11.2), Roberto Firmino (8.4), Michail Antonio (7.3) and the aforementioned Son all lead the line for their respective clubs, there’s plenty of out of position potential to target.

Yes, Ibrahimovic still leads the way in total attempts, shots in the box and attempts on target after seven Gameweeks.

For many, that will be more than enough to hold in spite of the inevitable price drop.

The underlying numbers clearly suggest Zlatan could very well burn any sellers.

Yet bearing in mind that 11 midfielders have bettered Ibrahimovic’s tally of 37 points already, parting company while his stock plummets and cannily reinvesting the cash elsewhere doesn’t seem such a radical idea.

The idea that that Ibrahimovic's price may fall to 11.2 is scaremongering. He only got the massive sales when a haul against Southamption coincided with Aguero's ban. There was a massive debate on this site about whether to Zlatan or not in pre-season. The aforementioned events meant that even the nay-sayers reluctantly got on. They were going to get off anyway when Aguero was back, they said.

Ibra is just not worth the money playing for an ever changing attack that can't attack com pared to the other 'big' teams.

That's fine and valid. But that argument was just as valid and being made in preseason. His ownership has gone down to his core pre-season ownership.

He needs approx 200k net sales per drop. I fancy that he will go to 11.4 but it'll be slow going.

Yep. The 0.4 drop was very quick, just like the rise. It is much slower now.

Exactly I imagine he's a mainstay in quite a high % of casuals or ghost-ship teams as well.

It's funny we say casuals. But it is most of us on here that are getting rid of a player based on FPL points when he is right up there on underlying stats.

The so called 'casuals' wouldn't keep him for so long. They would readily jump on the next bandwagon.

Short of funds to do straight swap Zlatan, Antonio to Lukaku, Sanchez.
        Which one is better?
        A. Zlatan, Antonio, Valencia to Lukaku, Sanchez, Pieters (-4, 0.8 in bank)
        B. Zlatan, Antonio to Deeney, Sanchez (free, 2.1m in bank)

Anyone thinking of switching to 3-5-2?? I am thinking that maybe a combo of Snoddy and Stuani would be much better than Austin and Capoue. Good idea??

i'm going for the flexible snoddy + austin/wilson option. allows me to take a few risks with early transfers etc knowing i'll always have a good bench option to bring on

I could do that, but that would mean that I would have to downgrade Baines or PVA in my defence, which I'm not sure I want to do. Also, I'm scared of leaving points on my bench

To be fair, they have conceded just 1 goal in 5 out of 7 of their games so far. They have dominated most of their games, and they have been a bit unlucky to not have gotten more CS's. In saying that, I wouldn't touch City's defence until Kompany returns. I feel that someone like Cedric is better value in that price range

        Current mid is:
        Antonio, Sterling, Firmino, Snodgrass, (Capoue)

Need to get Sanchez, and the only mid I can really sell to get him is Antonio.

Problem is, if I get him in this week, there's the risk he may not start due to the internationals. But if I wait a week to get him, I'd need to sell Antonio before Sunderland (H).

            Current team

            Jaku Pickford
            Holebas Coleman Walker MKelly Amat

0,0m in bank and 2 FT.

IF all my players get back fit from the international break I was thinking one of these options:

            A. Jaku to Grant (to use at least one transfer and have 2 playing goalkeepers for the coming weeks)

            OR

            B. Walker and Coleman to Lovren and Koscielny (to exploit Arsenal and L'pool kind run of fixtures)

Try and get Sanchez and Son. I can't tell with these. Sanchez will easily outscore Walcott and Son will outscore Snod.

McAuley/WBA fixtures turn for the worse. I am tempted to take a -4 for Robertson or Smith. Smith looks a decent shout and is quite attacking.

Means I wouldn't have to play him against Spurs as I want my Son pick to smash a double hattie in.

7.7 internet points if anyone can tell me how to squeeze Walcott in here, preferably for Snodgrass(5.7) or Capoue(5.0 selling value)

                Foster, Jaku
                Lovren, Baines, Holebas, Evans, Amat
                Sterling, Firmino, Sanchez, Snodgrass, Capoue
                Aguero, Lukaku, Deeney

                2FT, 0.1itb

It's honestly a bit hard to do that with your team unless you downgrade Lukaku, which I wouldn't suggest doing.........

Just bring Grant in for Jakupovic (if all your players are fit after the international break). Think Snograss might be really for for the next 8 weeks or so!

I wouldn't bother with Walcott but 2FT it would be Lukaku and Snodgrass out.

snodgrass > Walcott works, Capoue>Walcott is 0.3 short... nice thinking though, losing Deeney might be easier to take than losing Lukaku

Tottenham is looking good, but their defenders are unfortunately above your budget. I would consider a Leicester defender.

He has been on 4 since the Liverpool game. Conte has really reigned him in. Nothing malicious ever since that game. Gave me a nice and easy 24 points this GW.

                      H2H Draft League Question.

I've had Giroud from our draft. Luckily I managed to pick up Wally pretty sharpish and have been enjoying his form and returns.

My question is this. Should I continue to bench Giroud and keep him based on a future return to the lineup? or do I sell his backside and get another striker in as Wally will keep his spot?

                      Thankyou for your insight!!!
