With over 73,000 transfers out since Friday evening’s deadline, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) fire sale is gaining momentum.

From Gameweek 1-4, the Manchester United frontman blazed a trail and found the net on four occasions as Fantasy Premier League managers clambered on board the bandwagon.

In the past three league matches, which coincides with Marcus Rashford’s (6.9) return to the first XI, he has garnered just one assist.

As Jose Mourinho begins to solve the puzzle of how to integrate all the attacking talent at his disposal, Zlatan’s role appears to be changing. He’s becoming more of a front man around which the pace of Rashford and Jesse Lingard (5.7), the guile of Juan Mata (7.4) and the surges of Paul Pogba (8.3) can thrive.

All well and good, but do you really want to have 11.5 tied up in someone taking it for the team?

Let’s get one thing straight. Parting company with a player still owned by over 51% of FPL managers is by no means an easy call to make.

Over the last three Gameweeks, he is the top-ranked forward for attempts on goal (16), shots inside the box (12) and efforts on target (seven).

Those are hardly the statistics associated with an out-of-sorts striker.

Yet with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Chelsea up next, it’s no real surprise to see so many looking for alternatives up front.

Costing 11.9 as recently as Gameweek 5, his price dropped 0.4 in two rounds of fixtures. With an international break now upon us, Ibrahimovic could feasibly be sitting at 11.2 by the time United make their way to Anfield a fortnight this evening.

Recent weeks have seen the veteran drop to fifth in the forward standings, with Diego Costa (10.0) and Romelu Lukaku (9.4) moving into the top two slots.

The former has scored or assisted in six of his seven appearances under Antonio Conte and Lukaku has bagged five goals and an assist in five starts for Ronald Koeman.

Despite missing two matches through suspension, Aguero also sits above the Swede – the Argentine is also the top forward for points per match, with an average of 7.8 some way ahead of Ibra’s 5.3.

With so many appealing mid-price picks in the centre of the park, Ibrahimovic’s budget would go a long way to help strengthen our options.

Swapping him out for Lukaku, for example, would more or less free up the budget to draft in Tottenham’s in-form Heung-Min Son (7.6) for Etienne Capoue (5.2) as a fourth midfielder.

In a weekend where we saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez (11.2), Roberto Firmino (8.4), Michail Antonio (7.3) and the aforementioned Son all lead the line for their respective clubs, there’s plenty of out of position potential to target.

Yes, Ibrahimovic still leads the way in total attempts, shots in the box and attempts on target after seven Gameweeks.

For many, that will be more than enough to hold in spite of the inevitable price drop.

The underlying numbers clearly suggest Zlatan could very well burn any sellers.

Yet bearing in mind that 11 midfielders have bettered Ibrahimovic’s tally of 37 points already, parting company while his stock plummets and cannily reinvesting the cash elsewhere doesn’t seem such a radical idea.

Hello guys, already got a couple of opinions but would like some more before deciding:

I'm finally getting Hazard & Barkley out, which option is better:

    A) Sanchez & Snodgrass (Snod would play against my Smith next GW)
    B) Walcott & Son

    Thanks in advance!

I was thinking getting Sanchez and Snoddgrass, but it was only possible for a hit. I got Walcott instead, and I'm probably doing Ozil to Son this week, so it would be Son and Walcott for me.

You have 2 FTs, seems a shame. Last week was a bit woozy, don't go off that, none of the big hitters really performed (Ibra, Sanchez, Aguero, etc). Better to save for when you REALLY need it, like injuries etcetera

    2. I Member
      • 10 Years

You would probably be okay with the 2 FTs. Ibra -> Deeney/Defoe and upgrade De Roon to Son/Walcott/Sterling. Possibly -4 to get rid of Valencia or Stones for ARS/TOT def.

      1. Phillips

        9 years, 3 months ago

Thanks. Yeah those moves would be what I'd go for if I don't WC. Deeney and Sterling probably.

Just can't help but feel that if there are 10 changes I'd potentially make, I should probably just wildcard. Add in that it's International week, fixture swing... it's very tempting.

Not comfortable with ditching Antonio for wally/snod/son. So:

Jaku --> Grant and save my 2nd FT:

    _________ Grant ___________
    _____Koscielny Holebas_____
    Sterling Firm Sanchez Antonio Capoue
    Deeney Aguero Lukaku

    Pickford - Evans - Williams - amat

Yeah, I'm pretty set on the grant move. I think another week will allow for a clearer decision to be made in midfield.

Yeah , Im creeping up in the Epic one, you are top.

After Captaining Lukaku , what a Sunday it was , 3 big hitters failing 1 by 1 , then in the last second that "handout" . Guess that's my luck for the season though

Ah I just found your team.

Been a weird season, I was floundering after a poor start but I captained Lukaku for his hattrick and the rest has fallen into place since.

            Long way to go!

Lukaku captain was a great shout, but I didn't fancy having my captain play on a Friday ( I know I know)! Also, I was too of a monthly league with a £100 prize and I knew most would captain Aguero, so followed suit.

Difficult to balance OR with winning ML's.

          Krul , re AOA .

Don't normally take such a maverick approach, but figured the Kos hand out called for a little risk( Wally and Son in)

          What you think ?

          GK
          Kos , Collins / Lovren ( Amat , Evans )
Capoue, Sterling , Walcott, Son , Mane
          Kun , Bentekker , Lukaku

Has to be the way ? or not ?

          1. Krul Runnings
            • 10 Years
            9 years, 3 months ago

My advice would be to play it given your Def's.

I would probably go balls out and play Lovren ahead of Collins, reason being you have Bentekke and I actively try to avoid attacker v defender matchups.

As with my own AOA, my only reservation would be that we may encounter a time this season where we only have 2 fit Defs and may wish we held the chip longer, but I doubt it tbh.

Cedric was brought off in the 27th minute due to injury last weekend. I'd keep an eye on that. If he looks like he might be out for a little while, Martina at £4.3 looks very enticing. If he's definitely fit, then a good move.

Anyone played their All Out Attack yet or have an idea of when to play it? It just seems so useless to me.

I used it in GW2 to paper over my horrific defence. I gained 1pt! Last season it cost me points so I'm happy with that.

I won't use it unless I literally don't have 3 defenders to play. Otherwise, toss a coin over whether it makes you lose or gain points.

To cover a suspension or short term injury at the back is probably the best option.

So I'm thinking Ibra and Lovren > Costa and Koscielny (2FT).

Still unsure on when to do the change as I'm a bit worried about international break injuries, but at the same time Costa and Kos will probably rise in the next day or two.

Is it worth a gamble that Costa might be told to be an angel in GW8 so that he can get booked in GW9 and miss the league cup game instead of a league game?? Or am I better off looking elsewhere for a temporary striker and wait until after the inevitable suspension?

Already have Aguero and Lukaku, not overly keen on many other strikers except for maybe Austin or Tekkers. Either of those would certainly free up plenty of funds for elsewhere, but I favour the three heavy hitting strikers approach to make it easier to upgrade back to Ibra or even Kane if needed.

Sounds good but I don't think Costa's got it him in, to be an angle. So Capoue or a half decent 5th mid is a good idea.

Thanks, well I went with Capoue as 4th mid as part of my wildcard a couple of weeks ago (just typical that he'd start blanking since then..) meaning I have Fletcher as 5th mid - not great!

Hold. Getting Sanchez now is so reactionary.
He is likely to play 2 games in the Int break ? Then who knows what time he gets back to the Uk. Nevermind the risk of an injury.
Sure he is always on the radar , but this a good time to gamble going without

Problem is, he'll maybe rise £0.2 over the break, and I'm tight on budget doing the preferred transfers. Have Walcott though, so covered in that sense.

I would just point out that last time he was rested he came on as a sub and got 1 point, then got 24 points in his next 2 games. It's better to have him even if he is rested for part of a match (which he may not be) because the average of his points over the next couple of games is huge!

Has anyone wondered that Sanchez might have been benched the last time he returned from international duty because he also had to travel to Paris as Arsenal faced PSG on Tuesday. Now Arsenal has a home CL fixture against a weaker opposition on Wednesday.
