Our latest captain poll has now launched to assess your thoughts on the optimum armband options for Gameweek 11.

Nine out of ten of those who voted in our last poll for Gameweek 10 dismissed Sergio Aguero (13.0) as a viable captain. With a brace and assist away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, many won’t be making the same mistake this time around.

An Etihad meeting with Middlesbrough is expected to see the Manchester City striker dominate this week’s poll, after he so cruelly punished the 100,000 Fantasy Premier League managers that ditched him in the previous two Gameweeks. Already 50,000 have moved to acquire the Argentine ahead of the weekend.

Aguero’s team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) offers a solid alternative. Back from injury, he supplied the killer pass for City’s fourth goal on Saturday from a cameo role off the bench. That was the 9.0% owned midfielder’s seventh assist of the season, the highest tally of any player so far; he looks set to start against ‘Boro ahead of the international break.

A word of caution, though, as the Teesside team may not be as obliging as West Brom. Aitor Karanka’s troops have conceded just twice and kept two clean sheets over their last four league fixtures – one of them at the Emirates.

Interest in another star of Gameweek 10, Alexis Sanchez (11.4), may be muted this week, with a tough North London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur beckoning.

Despite the 24.9% owned Chilean’s brace away at Sunderland, Spurs will present a far sterner test. Like ‘Boro, they boast a defence that has conceded just twice in their last four outings.

Another London club provide two options that will surely tempt consideration.

With three goals and an assist over his last trio of matches, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (9.9) looks to be back to his best, flourishing in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. It would be no surprise to see the 19.9% owned Belgian pushing Aguero for top spot this week ahead of Everton’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Diego Costa (10.4) has also proved a revelation, topping the scoring charts with eight goals and providing just two blanks over his ten Gameweeks.

The 38.2% owned Spain international has also crushed the notion he cannot earn bonus points, accruing seven to this point.

Liverpool present a raft of alternative candidates when Watford visit Anfield.

Philippe Coutinho (8.5) brought his season assist tally to five at the weekend and has also found the net on four occasions.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) is just eight FPL points behind him and another Red to offer consistent returns. The “false nine” has delivered attacking returns in three of his last four Gameweeks.

With 34 FPL points across his previous four Anfield matches, Sadio Mane (9.0) is another armband candidate from Liverpool’s fluid attacking midfield. Of the trio, Coutinho is by far the most popular, commanding a 40.9% ownership, more than any other midfielder.

Two south coast teams offer some left-field options thanks to kind match-ups in Gameweek 11.

Hull City showed spirit in the 1-0 defeat to Watford but may struggle to keep Southampton at bay at the KCOM Stadium.

The Saints’ Charlie Austin (6.6) presents a differential option for the trip to Humberside. The 12% owned striker has scored four times since claiming a starting role in Gameweek 5.

With four goals shipped at home to Arsenal on Saturday, Sunderland’s defence remains in an obliging mood.

Their visit to Bournemouth presents Cherries forward Callum Wilson (6.6) with a good opportunity of adding to his three-goal tally, all of which have been scored at the Vitality Stadium.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Morning all!
I’ve given you all a bit of breathing space since my last Boro update, which came at a bit of low point where it looked as though there was nowhere to turn in terms of Boro assets.
Well what a different pace makes and how things have turned around in two weeks!
Here’s my latest assessments after watching a fantastic draw at Arsenal and our most accomplished performance of the season in Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth:
Valdes: This guy has arrived. It’s obvious that the coaching staff have been bombarding him with crosses because he now comes for EVERYTHING. Quick off his line twice to make two brilliant saves and is playing with confidence again and a big smile on his face. Will be huge for us now.

    Barragan: Solid, reliable. Good value.

Friend: Very critical of him early in the season but in fairness to him he’s really settled down now and looked far more like his old self on Saturday. Might have had a goal. A genuine FF option again.

Chambers and Gibson: These two have played three games together now and look like they could really be a force together. Gibson is just getting better and better, a genuine leader and an England call up beckons. For any Arsenal fans wondering, Chambers has looked very, very good. I’m sure he’s benefiting from being able to play without any real attention on him.

Clayton: Stayed in for the injured De Roon. Not a ff option.

Forshaw: Pulling our strings and having a great season so far – there are better ff options though.

Downing: Always a 7/10, never more never less.

Ramirez: Fantastic in both games. Benefiting hugely from having Traore in the team. MOM on Saturday in his 60 minutes. And WHAT a goal.

Traore: The difference. Be bold and sign him up. Our Stuani based attack has gone from being cumbersome and slow to now being dynamite. Defences must sit ten yards back on where they were with Stuani in the team. When this guy gets the ball, the crowd stand up and defences panic. The fastest man I’ve ever seen in a Boro shirt but has the footwork to match. Brilliant ball in for the second goal. A hugely interesting differential option. Next test for him is consistency.

Negredo: Needs a goal but has played very well now that we’ve given him some pace to work with. Still a risky FF option because of his confidence in front of goal – should have had two on Saturday.

Fischer – May find himself being integrated more now that Traore is on the pitch which potentially leaves spaces elsewhere. I’m keeping an eye on that one.

Leadbitter – he’s back and had 30 minutes. That could be his role this season as Forshaw doesn’t deserve to be dropped. Bear in mind if he does manage to get back in the team he will be on corners and pens.

Our fixtures are not great over the next couple of games but my advice ignores that. Having seen the difference that pace makes I’m certain we’ll be fine. We’re now cutting out the mistakes and the defence is starting to look far more like it’s old solid self – with George Friend, in particular, looking like he’s starting to acclimatise to the increase in quality.
    Feeling positive again - UTB

As a fellow Dane, I would love to see Fischer playing regularly. Do you know if he is still learning how to backtrack?

Haha, it is my understanding that yes he is still being coached in the field of tracking back! I know he's highly rated by the club, but it is Karanka's style to slowly integrate players into the 'culture of the team' and although it can be fristrating, in fairness it is something that has generally worked quite well in the long run.

Creating problems is fine but will he convert them into FPL points or players like Allen/Stanislas/Gundogan better?

I would pick Gundogan over him as City will obviously score a lot more goals than we will. Time will tell I suppose on the other two.

Traore seems a really interesting 4/5 mid option at 4.8, given your review above!

Only problem is that I'm struggling to see where he'd fit in, given that as a non-Boro fan I'm really only looking at fixtures for players at that kind of value range - I can't really see a solid run (unlike Allen from Stoke, who I have now) of good games for Boro when I could get an asset or two in. Maybe it's the fixture computer!

      Great write up nonetheless!

Cheers. The only thing I'd say is that it is probably difficult to ever say about Boro 'good fitures coming up', until we establish ourselves a bit more. True though that City and Chelsea are next which is undoubtedbly tough.

Yeah I totally understand! Bit like Leicester last year making a mockery of any ticker, it'll have to be a leap of faith.

If I'm sniffing around for value, would you say Friend in defence and Traore in mf are the two that I should bring in if I need to make an enabling transfer?

I was really considering your defence start of season because of the mean reputation from the Championship, plus you guys obviously managed to keep us (Arsenal) out at the Emirates! From this arises a second question: is captaining Kun this week going to pay off? Or are you guys going to close City down, too?

Sorry for all the questions! Just interested to hear from a Boro perspective what your thoughts are 🙂

Gibson has been our most reliable and consistent defender so far and is now going up for set pieces which he tends not to do if Ayala is in the team (oddly as he's always a threat) but now that he's settled down Friend will be the best bet for points, he gets himself forward a lot, beats men and is always a threat down the left (not a brilliant delivery) and therefore will be involved in the bonuses. I'd therfore go Friend.

For me Ramirez will continue to outscore Traore in the short term and provides a safer option, but not necessarily better value. £4.8m for Traore should not be ignored.

I'm going to sit on the fence a bit here. I'm captaining Aguero because at the end of the day City have the quality to get 4/5 against anybody - sometimes there is nothing you can do I suppose. Plus the majority will be captaining him.

However...as you know we are quite adept at shutting up shop and now have the ability to hit on the break with Traore, so do not be too surprised to see us frustrate City and cause them problems. Worth pointing out that two seasons ago we beat a full strength City at the Etihad 2-0 playing exactly the same style as we will on Sat, and did at Arsenal.

Okay - yes makes sense. I'd be playing Friend a bit like I do for Pieters currently; 3rd/4th def, knowing a CS is kind of unlikely but some hope in OK fixtures, plus hoping to get points from attackign returns. Sounds like Gibson is a Vertonghen type - happy to stay back and let the other one get forward

Great; I think that the plan is obviously going to be to shut up shop, and City's backline is pretty porous so I wouldn't be surprised by a breakaway goal. I'm thinking maybe 2-1, with a Kun goal, is probably what might happen there.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, plus being able to write properly, joyous to read a coherent reply hehe

If you have any need for advice on your current team let me know 🙂

Surprises me, I'm a Cardiff City fan and seen Clayton many times and remember him as a handy creative CM, took corners, free kicks, very neat passing play etc, is he playing a lot deeper now then?

Anyway, he's in my team due to price so he won't ever play but would have been better picking de room by the sounds of it!

Anyway, hope you stay up this season fella!

Yeh I think so. He's looked ok so far but is very defensive minded so very much bench fodder if you get him in though, he'll get no ff points. Traore at £4.8m is a far better option but appreciative you may want the cash for elsewhere

Fantasy Football Scout Halloween hot topic

With Halloween night almost upon us I thought I’d find out about your scariest Fantasy Football moment this season.

For 100,000 FPL managers who ditched Aguero ahead of Saturday that moment his second goal went in must surely rank highly.

For me it was seeing Lallana limp off at the Liberty Stadium after 20 minutes and shortly after I’d drafted him in for Roberto Firmino for a hit. The double horror of seeing Sturridge come on and knowing that Firmino was moving to a more threatening midfield role added to the horror.

What was your most horrific moment? Seeing the player you transferred out score? Seeing the player you got in get injured? Or making an early transfer and then learning of a training ground injury that meant it had been wasted?

Or was it a rival doing well….seeing their captain score a hattrick when you are looking at a blank ©?

      I have 2 quick stories.

      1) I think it was GW29 two seasons ago and I was still in The Cup. Not too many left at this stage, feeling pretty chuffed. Long story short, I watched as Foster, my keeper, got injured in the 54th minute and subbed. West Brom keep a CS, I don't get Foster CS points and I get knocked out by 4 points. Heart was in my mouth when I saw him getting subbed before the 60 mins mark.

      2) Didn't even manage to qualify for The Cup last season. Pretty horrific to not be in the best 2 million players!!

Selling Chadli for Shaqiri the week Chadli got 10pts against Spurs...

The following week I then swapped Shaqiri for Allen and then watched Shaqiri get 15pts against Hull.

I think I've learnt my lesson.

Probably choosing Zaza over Diego Costa in GW4 when I was wondering what change to make, thinking Zaza had okay fixtures and could benefit from the unknown quantity factor early on.

Of course, Diego (who I would've captained if I brought in) got a brace, with Zaza looking limp and getting a yellow card to boot. Ouch!

Horrific decision making in hindsight. Reversed soon after! But I'd be much better off right now if I'd not tried to be too clever....

Nah I got rid straight away, he was so inept - I was only swayed by Bilic bigging him up in the Evening Standard (London daily evening paper -he "writes" a column on Fridays) but he totally failed the eye test.

Shame really - he's a total Football Manager darling (along with Berardi) but just doesn't seem to be able to do it in a quick league like the Prem, and it doesn't seem like he'll be given the chance to adapt now.

Everything this GW. Not having Sanchez on the team and Walcott beeing injured. Not captaining Aguero and watching that 2. goal go in. Instead I captained Firmino. I was very nervous the whole game. He scored but than got booked. I took a -4 hit too.

Had quite a few in this rough season...

First GW, watching both Ibra and Hazard score in their matches after having them in my team all pre-season, only to take them out last minute for Kane and Mahrez, who both blanked. That was rough.

Bringing Ibra in and watching him blank 4 games in a row was bad too, especially when I had him captained. My hairs were up that game because I knew he wouldn't score.

Captaining Kane against Palace and watching Aguero score a brace away at Stoke...

Winner has to be Lallana's injury though, right after I wrote an article about how great he was for this site!

Just got rid of Williams and he bags a CS and bonus points. Some others too but I don't like moaning too much about these things, but I've noticed that I just have rotten luck with certain players. Sanchez (captaining), Williams, etc. On the other hand, I tend to have good luck with Ozil, Lukaku, Alli, Kun etc...maybe I'll make a team next year and just put all of my lucky players in and see how it does 😀

Nothing beats the sinking feeling I had last year when I was playing head to head going into last game i was comfortably ahead and my opponent needed 2 barkley goals to win. 90 mins gone no goals for barkley happy days then Newcastle give away two penalties. Lost and was gutted.

FPL melt down start of the season when i could'nt make changes knowing i was starting the season with Moreno still in my team was the scariest moment. My thoughts wondering what kind of season is coming my way.
My most horrific moment of the season has got be gameweek 8 when my captain Aguero got me -2 along with Benteke -1 leaving me with 33 points followed by 36 in gameweek 9.

In the 10/11 season, my missus at the time decided to kick me where it hurts and mess around with my team. She did 15 transfers for a 56pt hit! I had to do another 11 transfers to actually have a viable team, taking an overall hit of 100pts!
This "episode" only made me more determined to do even better that season, reaching a height of 15,645 by the end. That extra 100pts would've got me into the top 800.
Moral of the story - Never mess with someone else's team.
Or - Make sure you've logged out of your FPL team when you've pissed off your missus.

Whilst I was tinkering with my team one late evening, I looked out my window, and standing in my front yard amongst the trees was a scary looking clown holding a machete just staring at me.

So I did what any 110kg 6ft 3inch burly man would do in that situation.

I went to bed, slipped into the sheets, and told the missus to go outside and make sure the garage door was closed. 😉

This was last season admitadley but I think it's a horror with a Halloween tale:

So mid season I was languishsing towards the bottom of my ML after most years being in the top 3 spots.
I'd failed to get Igahlo, Vardy and was late to the Kane party.

I carried on grafting though with the likes of Sanchez among other differentials gradually getting me closer to the summit.
After a great TC on Sanchez for the double game week most people used bench boosts I then used bench boost the DGW after and thanks to Bobby F among others I found myself top of the table going into the last game week of the season.

The last game week comes around and I'm looking in good shape, but unfortunately I cannot delcare myself victorious as Man Utd's game with Bournemouth had been postponed.

90th minute into the last game of the season and Chris Snallings clean sheet was keeping my top of the ML.

93rd minute and he scores on own goal which loses his clean sheets points and with the last kick of the season relegated all my fighting hard to a 3rd place finish.

      I am still hurt.

I agree Jonty it has to be the Lallana/Firmino situation against Swansea.

That week I did Baines who was injured & Firmino > Koscielny & Lallana so luckily Koscielny saved me with his 15 point haul the following day from a very dubious goal.

The Aguero penalty miss gw8 was pretty horrific. Also watching Winston Reid (WINSTON REID!!) fire in a 94th minute winner from outside the box(!) with his left foot(!) to wreck my Pickford clean sheet in gw9 (not so horrific in terms of points, just horrifying circumstances, the kind that only usually happens in pre-gameweek fpl nightmares).

Horror show definitely this gameweek. Had already brought in Holebas for Williams. Then needed to get Coutinho in, so rather than bring in for Sterling, took Aguero and Capoue out for Coutinho and Austin. Captained Deeney instead of Sanchez. Net 38 (46 -8 point hit) points with only Allen left to play. Plummeted down to 534,188.

This season: the Capoue goal v Man Utd. I had him from the start and benched him every week, this one was the killer.

Past seasons: 2013/14 - not having Yaya or Ramsey for pretty much the entire season. Led to my worst ever season rank of 162k. Every time Yaya scored my heart sank a little.

      Happened recently just last week.
End of GW9 and I have 1 million ITB
Clyne to Alonso and now 0.6 ITB
Somehow I manage to convince myself about Man Utd defence simultaneously watching them getting destroyed 4-0 against Chelsea.
So I do Williams to Valencia. For a hit.

Now come Friday and the news is Walcott won't be starting and my transfer at that moment would have been
Walcott 7.8 Selling Value to Coutinho 8.4
But I can't do it now.
Saturday 2pm lineups announced and BAM Valencia out injured.

Conclusion I am stuck with Valencia Walcott which would have been Williams Coutinho.

      Moral >>>
      A) Never take hits for a defender
      B) Never make unnecessary early transfers.

GW 2: Aguero/Zlatan were my favoured captaincy choices. But 5 minutes before deadline, sold Gray for Carroll and captained him.

Friday: Watched the United game and Zlatan scored a brace and 13 points.

Saturday: Watched my VC Aguero help himself to a brace and 13 points and Gray who I shipped out got 10 points as well.

      Plot Twist
Sunday: Luckily Carroll didn't show up! (So Aguero C and Fuchs CS off the bench)

Ok I know it had a good ending but those 2 days before that was horrific.

I'm not surprised. This week just gone was very open in terms of choice, but I think it's a case of following the herd this weekend; Boro are tightening up and indeed did hold us (Arsenal) to a 0-0. But many on here thought WBA, another team with a very defensive profile, would keep Kun/City out this weekend.

Not 100% settled yet though - there's still the Barca game midweek for the glassman to shatter in 😉

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 11

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 11am tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

This hold till he scores thing is or his fixtures are good is all nonsense really.

A goal will eventually come along from Zlatan. But he's not playing well and he isn't up there with the best in the Premier League.

Actually the ones who have held on till now should just go out and keep holding him.
I mean there's not much to be lost now I feel. Eventually Ibrahimovic will come back in form and start scoring.
Its sort of like the Capote situation where his stats suggested he will stop scoring and that's what happened. So with Ibrahimovic too the stats suggest goals will come and I feel they will definitely come.
So just hold now Ibrahimovic owners.

Worried what KDB return does to him tho.

Is Fuchs worth the 0.4m over Morgan?

The 0.4 will help me upgrade Redmond to Chadli in a couple of weeks.

Agree to that. I just fancy Redmond more for now as Chadli plays Leicester & Burnley. But after that Chadli is the better pick.

I think Fuchs could be a bargain from now on. Morgan's price is probably about right. It just depends on how you rate Chadli over Redmond. Personally I'd go Fuchs/Redmond

        1) Melchester Rovers - Jase Wedgwood

        GW7 Ibrahimovic 2 points
        GW8 Aguero -2 points
        GW9 Aguero 2 points
        GW10 Ibrahimovic 4 points

Thats a net total of 6 points from my captains in the last 4 GWs. In my 6 years playing FPL i have never had such a bad run.

So many options this year, my head is hurting. All of Coutinho, Aguero, Haz, Sanchez, KDB, Lukaku and Costa seem great bets and are all scoring. So difficult to know who to back.

Who should be the priority midfielder to acquire this week?
        A. Coutinho
        B. Kdb
        C. Haz

This, although Coutinho is arguably the man to have - I need a little more convincing for me to yet again consider Hazard, and KdB is only worth considering if something happens to Kun imo, given the presence of Sanchez in most teams it's not financially viable to have them all 🙂

C least at risk or rest or rotation, KDB to likely to be rested for me at that price. The prices are so different it has to be considered on the basis of looking at the full team.

Coutinho, Alexis, Hazard, Lukaku, Aguero will slowly start to become the template if it already isn't. With that can still afford a decent 3rd striker option (Austin for me) + a mid-range 4th midfielder

                  Current team is:

                  Grant
                  Koscielny/Blind/Toby
                  Sanchez Coutinho Allen Gundogan
                  Costa Deeney Aguero

                  Bench: Jaku Amat Wilson Hojbjerg

I have 2.6 in ITB with 0 FT (Did Son > Gundogan).

                  What do you suggest?

I would stick with this, gk will be a problem soon. Long term get deeney out and one of your expensive defenders to put a bit in midfield but nothing drastic

Don't through your hard earned points away, Shane long isn't going to beat deeney buy more then 4points

I guess that's the question: Is Wilson or Long going to get 2+ goals this week?

              Foster / Pickford

              Kosc / Amat / Evans / Lovren / Williams

              Allen / Walcott / Sanchez / Firmino / Capoue

              Kun(c) / Lukaku / Benteke

              0.5 ITB 1 FT.

Am 0.1 off being able to afford Walcott - Coutinho.. anything worth a hit?

FPL doesnt seem to have the leagues set by quarters any more.

Can anyone remember the GW divides please?

                Was it this?

                Q1: 10 GWs
                Q2: 9 GWs
                Q3: 10 GWs
                Q4: 9 GWs

Have you had Foster/Heaton rotating goalies? Started with that and had horrible points on the bench. Dumped Foster, played Heaton every week. Problem solved and 0.5 mil saved.

Wow that is incredible, Think positive, at least you are selecting the right players in your squad.

Have to ask, other than the obvious Capoue, who has trolled you the most?

Capoue, Heaton/Foster rotation, other defensive rotations and then GW8 Holebas

                Jaku (Foster)
                Valencia Stones Friend (Williams, Amat)
                Sanchez Allen Firmino Walcott (Capoue)
                Kun Lukaku Deeney
                2FT 1.8m ITB

                A. Valencia, Walcott -> Coutinho, Fuchs/Alonso (determines how much cash I'll have left over for space)
                B. Valencia, Walcott -> Hazard, Morgan

Rashford, Benteke, Sterling and Son all in my team. Not even sure who the priority is to drop!

I'd say Rashford and Son as priorities. If you want rid of all of them do two -4s over two weeks.

Fancied Kun for gw20 given his away form. Not as confident for gw11, but will probably seek comfort in the crowd. Can see KDB flourishing.

after such a crazy GW in terms of captaincy...i'm happy for a settled one with Kun out of the picture and leave it out to the differentials to sort it out.

Agreed. I was unable to look at FPL until I got the notification about Lukaku's goal. Will be happier next week when 100% of FFS / ML has Kun (c) and it's differential 5/6 point performances that end up being what the gw hinges on - though obviously disparate captain choice is exciting, it often turns into a nerve-jangling time haha
