Spurs are woeful and Leicester resolute on a night of diminished Champions League returns for the English sides. Here’s how the rather insignificant amount of action played out.

Tottenham Hotspur 0 Bayer Leverkusen 1

Spurs slipped to third in their group after another nervy and unconvincing attempt to make Wembley their Champions League home.

Eric Dier (5.2) hit the bar from a free-kick and Dele Alli (8.2) might have had a penalty, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men were otherwise outplayed, hurried when in possession and stretched when without, as the visitors out-shot them by 11 attempts to nine.

More worryingly, they are now winless in six matches in all competitions and have scored just twice in their last five – and both of those were from penalties.

With Erik Lamela (6.7) missing out due to a hip problem, Pochettino recalled midfielder Moussa Sissoko (6.7), who is still banned domestically. Striker Vincent Janssen (7.7) dropped to the bench and full back Danny Rose (5.9) was rested, presumably with Sunday’s North London derby in mind – Ben Davies (4.8) took his place.

Janssen was soon involved, however, as Mousa Dembele (5.4) went off with a knock, which meant a return to midfield for Heung-Min Son (7.5). The South Korean, who has failed to score in his last four league starts, was a peripheral figure throughout. Close to 90,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have now cut their losses on him this week alone.

With their injury list slowly growing, Spurs’ squad is starting to look rather thin. They have sorely missed the goals of Harry Kane (10.7) is recent weeks and the England man’s possible return from an ankle injury for the weekend’s match at Arsenal cannot come soon enough.

However, with Pochettino confirming a twisted ankle for Dembele, he’ll be a major doubt for Sunday’s clash – we all know by now the impact that his absence can have on Spurs and, in particular, Kane’s scoring rate.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies, Wanyama, Dembélé (Janssen 30), Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen (Winks 66), Son (Nkoudou 73).
Subs not used: Vorm, Rose, Nkoudou, Onomah, Carter-Vickers.

FC Copenhagen 0 Leicester City 0

Sometimes the stats say it all: two teams; 29 attempts between them; only three on target. Result? Goalless draw.

But that was an outcome which suited Leicester just fine, with the Foxes needing just one more point from two matches to secure a place in the Round of 16.

Coach Claudio Ranieri made three changes from the side who scrapped to a draw away at Tottenham, with Luis Hernandez (4.3) in for Danny Simpson (4.9), Daniel Amartey (4.5) replacing Andy King (4.8) and Jeffrey Schlupp (4.9) coming in for Shinji Okazaki (5.7).

Islam Slimani (8.4), still struggling with a groin injury, didn’t even travel, which meant another start for the in-form Ahmed Musa (7.0).

The Foxes became the first side to keep a clean sheet in their first four Champions League matches, and it was no surprise that Ranieri reserved much of his praise for Kasper Schmeichel (5.0), who produced a fine late save to secure the draw.

City are now starting to replicate their Euro form in the Premier League. A good run of forthcoming fixtures – West Brom and Middlesbrough at home and trips to Watford and Sunderland – could prompt investment in the champions, particularly at the back.

Ranieri would seem unlikely to be concerned with resting players for Sunday’s meeting with West Brom given that an international break now looms.

However, the likes of Marc Albrighton (5.1) and Okazaki will be pushing for recalls, while Simpson would seem likely to slot in at right-back. Hernandez, Schlupp and perhaps Musa look the most likely to come under threat.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Hernández, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Mahrez, Amartey, Drinkwater, Schlupp (Okazaki 71), Vardy, Musa.
Subs not used: Zieler, King, Albrighton, Simpson, Okazaki, Gray, Ulloa.

Gundogan or Redmond...?? Who to get...??

    Front 8:

    Hazard. Sanchez. Allen. Capoue. Maloney.

      Is this a wildcard?

There are better keeper options and I don't like Keane as a forward option. I'd switch Coleman for Fuchs. Midfield is outstanding.

Mustafi and walcott to Pieters and Hazard for-8

I'm gonna want Hazard eventually and his price will soar.

Gives me stellar milf lineup of

    Coutinho firmino sanchez Hazard

Madness...or worth the risk....would be first hits of season...

it just about makes sense - mustafi could easily keep a clean sheet the ways spurs are playing but hazard is arguably worth it right now

for minus 8 I can't really endorse it this gameweek, but I've seen worse moves touted

At the start of the week I wanted to get a Liverpool defender in. Every man and his dog on FFS (except Epic Fail) told me to get Fuchs. I still haven't made the move but the cat is certainly amongst the pigeons

Lovren definitely good value. Of course it's all on potential points, as they have a habit of at least one donkey moment a game, but he's a good pick imo.

        Hi guys,

I really need some help with this,

I'm thinking of doing Costa and Bolasie to Austin and Hazard.

Costa is on the brink of suspension, and Everton's fixtures are on the turn (I also have Lukaku)

        Is it a good move?

Costa to get a yellow card in this game? Miss the (mid) game.

Back for Spurs at Home where he is 95% guaranteed a yellow card but ensure he plays away against City?

        If I was Conte...

        A. Coleman to Fuchs
        B. Mustafi to Alonso
        C. A or B plus Rashford to Austin

        AOA this week, looking good?

        Foster

        Bellerin Smith

        Redmond, Allen, Gun, Firm, Sanchez.

        Austin, Zlatan, Ageuro.

If Bellerin doesn't play, Holebas on the bench or can get Fuchs for a minus 4.

Does anyone else just dislike their team?

        GK

De-Gea - Ok, he's good and always starts. Happy with him.
        Jaku - Deadwood

Bellerin - Doubt for the next game, otherwise I like him, although Arsenal love conceding.
Fonte - Got him in for GW8, annoying penalty to concede against Burnley, else Southampton aren't great
Collins - Deadwood - Ok, revived for a week (Luckily), but we'll concede four anyways
McCauley - Meh, on the bench (rightly so) against Liverpool when he scored. Nice Fixtures though.
Holebas - Did someone say bandwagon? I don't even know who this guy is. Kidding, thanks for the clean sheets.

Coutinho - I just got this guy in for Lallana, every bandwagon I've jumped on this season has failed - Lallana revival
Shaquiri - Now this was a slightly tipsy knee-jerk on Sunday evening. I thought the Swansea game would be his next. But no, in the same GW and he picks up a knock
Walcott - Need I say more? Got him in as a bandwagon too for the MID game.
Tadic - This guy. Ready to get rid around GW5, looked good against Arsenal, West Ham (As we do) made him look even better. Time to ship?

Aguero - Ok, one of few good decisions I've made shipping Ibra a few weeks back for him. Despite the -2 captaincy.
Costa - Been the one person keeping me sane at time this season. Hate the guy though.
Defoe - Was time for Negredo to go. Don't expect much from this guy. Also hate him as a person.

So there it is, my amazing team. Finally got a captain choice last week who scored over 4 points for the first time since GW1.

        Regards,

        Greg

Should be Zeiler and could be worth a short term punt given their fixtures, but I wouldn't be wasting transfers on keepers unless you actually have Schmeichel.

You'd also be hoping Leicester being their defensive form from the CL to the league, because their league form hasn't been great.

Second season syndrome. He hasn't been very good so far this season tbf, but he's also had a few niggling injury issues. He's a young lad so he'll work through it.

Still one of the best young talents I've seen when he's on, and I still think he has that potential to become the next Henry in time. The resemblance when he plays is uncanny imo, but obviously a long way to go before he can rival Henry.

I know the Walcott situation has been discussed to the death. Personally I think Walcott is going to start for these reasons:

          1) He has been training since before the CL game. He probably wasn't risked with NLD coming up. He has been out for 10 days thats all so he doesn't need to be eased back in. He just had a hamstring niggle. Surely Ramsey who has been out for almost 3 months is the one that needs to be eased back in and a game with the pace of NLD is not a good game to do that.
          2) Giroud is in good scoring form but lets not forget he scored against a woeful Sunderland and a small team like Ludogrets. Not Exactly the best measure of form.
          3) Wenger will field the team that has been working for him brilliantly so far. Alexis up top. Why would he change that in his most important game of the season?

All well thought out, and I'd add two more points to your calculus: Hamstring injuries can easily recur, and Theo is injury prone.

I'm thinking about a defence of

          Forster
          Alonso Walker Cedric

          From about GW15.

Now I just have to figure out how to afford it.

Better than not planning at surely.

Fully aware of the changing landscape, but I don't want an all red fixture ticker for my defence over Xmas.
