Danny Drinkwater is set to start the first of a three-match ban as Leicester entertain Middlesbrough. Joe Allen is suspended for Stoke’s trip to Watford, whilst Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld are both unavailable for Spurs’ visit to Stamford Bridge.

Danny Drinkwater serves the first of a three-match ban after being retrospectively found guilty of violent conduct for an altercation with Watford’s Valon Behrami last weekend. Islam Slimani (groin problem) will be assessed, while Ben Chilwell and Nampalys Mendy are not yet available, having only returned to training yesterday. Matty James is also still sidelined for the visit of Middlesbrough.

Aitor Karanka has conceded that George Friend is likely to remain out “for three or four weeks” with a knee problem ahead of Middlesbrough’s trip to the King Power. Daniel Ayala has recovered from an ankle issue and is back in contention.

Toby Alderweireld has returned to training but remains unavailable for Spurs’ trip to Chelsea tomorrow evening, with Mauricio Pochettino hopeful the Belgian could be fit to face Swansea next weekend. Erik Lamela and Ben Davies remain injured, while Danny Rose is suspended.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Glenn Whelan will be available for Stoke’s clash with Watford. The midfielder has recovered from a hamstring problem but has now picked up a calf complaint ahead of the Vicarage Road clash. Geoff Cameron and Phil Bardsley are sidelined through injury. Joe Allen sits out a one-match suspension, whilst Jack Butland is expected to return to training next week.

Jefferson Montero (hand) and Leon Britton (calf) have both recovered in time for Swansea’s home clash with Palace. Manager Bob Bradley has confirmed that Ki Sung-Yeung is the only absentee – the South Korean is expected to be out for a couple of weeks with a broken toe.

Paddy McNair has been ruled out for months with knee ligament damage as Sunderland make their way to Anfield. Seb Larsson and Jan Kirchhoff are expected to miss out despite recent returns to action for the club’s reserves. Steven Pienaar is available after serving a one-match ban but Papy Djilobodji misses out due to a similar suspension. Jason Denayer has recovered from a hamstring complaint.

Adam Lallana is expected to remain on the sidelines for Liverpool’s clash with Sunderland. Local press confirmed that the midfielder was once again absent from training yesterday ahead of the Black Cats’ visit to Anfield.

Eddie Howe has revealed that Artur Boruc and Andrew Surman remain doubtful for Bournemouth’s trip to the Emirates. Adam Smith is available after serving a one-match ban last week, Jordon Ibe has recovered from illness, though the on-loan Jack Wilshere cannot play against his parent club.

Steve Mandanda remains sidelined with a knee problem as Palace make their way to the Liberty. Loic Remy will be unavailable for another three weeks after sustaining a calf injury.

Tony Pulis will “make a late decision” on Nacer Chadli, as the Belgian steps up his recovery from a knee problem. The Baggies boss conceded his summer signing faces a tough task to return to the first XI in light of his side’s current form. Back-up stopper Boaz Myhill is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Younes Kaboul and Juan Camilo Zuniga are both doubtful for Watford’s home encounter with Stoke. Jose Holebas returns after serving a one-match suspension, though Craig Cathcart, Kenedy and Isaac Success all remain on the sidelines.

It is pretty cruel. No amount of yoga or meditation can get it back. Being vegetarian doesn't help either.

I'd still play Amat. Vert is going to be getting forward much. I also think he might play Trippier there, to avoid having Costa and Hazard up against horrendously out of form Wimmer & Dier.

              It's possible. Unlikely, but possible.

What's distinctly more possible is he plays 2 our of 3 games at bets of Xmas, and is regularly shifted back into the pivot.

he's taking up a 4th mid spot, so likelihood is I'll be swapping that player regularly anyway!

probably a rubbish option looking forwards but jumping on him whilst he's hot could pay off... I probably don't have the minerals to do it anyway 😆

        GW13 Captaincy Conundrum:

I apologise for not including any Arsenal or Man United cover for this tiny little stat table. The table is fairly simple and i'll explain the abbreviated terms.
        PPG = Points Per Game
i.e., Total Points accrued so far / Total no. of games played
DDH = Double digit hauls (10 points or higher in a given GW )
        L4 = Last 4 Gw's PPG
Block letters refer to Home game
GC = Total goals conceded ( By the opposition so far )
CH = Goals conceded at home
( Ex: Burnley have conceded 6 goals at home out of 19 )
        CA = Goals conceded away
( Ex: Spurs have conceded 4 goals on their away trips )

        1. Aguero : 6.30 PPG , 3 DDH, 6.25 L4 : Opposition: bur, 19 GC, 6 CH
        2. Firmino : 6.36 PPG , 3 DDH, 7.25 L4 : Opposition: SUN, 21 GC, 8 CA
        3. Coutinho : 6.41 PPG , 4 DDH, 7.75 L4 : Opposition: SUN, 21 GC, 8 CA
        4. Lukaku : 6.45 PPG , 3 DDH, 5.25 L4 : Opposition: sou, 12 GC, 5 CH
        5. Costa : 6.83 PPG , 2 DDH, 6.75 L4 : Opposition: TOT, 8 GC, 4 CA
        6. Hazard : 7.16 PPG , 4 DDH, 11.75 L4 : Opposition: TOT, 8 GC, 4 CA

Considering form, fixtures and the opposition. It's fair to say that the likes of Coutinho, Firmino command our attention.Even though Hazard's recent form is quite splendid, the fact that he faces a mean Spurs defence should be taken into consideration. Aguero, who has 3 DDH's on the road faces a leaky Burnley defence who's shipped 6 goals in the last two GW's. Consider the likes of Sanchez(Poor Home form on his standards/Likely switch to the left wing being the Cons) and Mane(3 DDH's at Anfield) into the mixture, we really do have some interesting options.

        Conclusion:

Safe Picks : Coutinho, Firmino, Mane
Maverick Picks : Aguero, Sanchez, Hazard

My arm band was on Firmino until i decided to check a few stats which compelled me to put it on Coutinho. I've had some terrible Captaincy fails, just hoping that i'd atleast get a decent haul this time around.

He could easily wreck havoc against any opposition on his day. It's just that his performances of late has been a little inconsistent. I'm not trusting Kun with my arm band because of that. Burnley could frustrate City as they did with Liverpool and United. That being said, you never know when Kun decides to have a go. That's why i ain't selling him. He's fantasy gold.

Tough week for us Coutinho, Firmino and Hazard owners.

Fingers crossed all get a double digit haul.

Hazard's form is really good atm. It's just that i'd expect Spurs to really tighten up an already mean defence. Even if Spurs should lose this game, I'd say it'll be a one goal affair. But i could be totally wrong too 😉 Captain Hazard is a gutsy move IMHO.

They are missing Toby and Rose though.. Wimmer/Dier CB pair just isn't good enough. Poch should start Vert as CB imo.

I don't think we've quite entered the 'captaining Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard is maverick' territory just yet.

Thanks for the summary...Spurs defence is wrecked atm with rose, Davies and toby out. Vert have to play left back which means Dier and Wimmer in central defence.

Anyone remember how Poch shut down Arsenal two weeks back? He even went to a 5-4-1 towards the later stages of the game and started out in a 4-1-4-1.
Played Wanyama, Dembele, Dier to give athleticism and he didn't have Alli and Toby then.
Poch clearly knows his defence is weakened and he is not shy of changing formations for the big games to save a point .

Point is , Spurs as a unit are the best defensive team in the league with Chelsea , for a reason with or without 1-2 players .
They will field athletic players in the midfield who can press and run till the stroke of ninety minutes .

Unless they conceed an early goal , can't see this game being anything but close . Spurs are still the only unbeaten team for a reason, no other team in the league can work as hard as them .

The Spurs midfield will use their strength and stamina and be given extra defensive duties .
Can't see poch just leaving it to his weakened defense , the man is too shrewd for simple things like that.
Arsenal were on a hot streak back then but Spurs only gave them two shots in target .
Of course the 3-4-3 will be tricky but poch will have done his homework if anyone has.

LOL is a useful, if a little mocking, thing to say. The point is that it is an outrageous call, given KdB's form. He is involved in nearly every goal they score, and he hasn't got his own considerable scoring boots on yet. If he doesn't get injured, he will be the top scorer in the whole game. I'd get in Coutinho, but not for de Bruyne.

Heaton could easily get you 3 or 4 points in a Man City victory.

With so many teams playing 3 at the back and wing backs, i reckon 4 at the back is actually a false formation. Alonso, brunt, holebas a literally wingers. Then you have the liverpool "midfielders" who along with hazard play up strike. So in actual fact that is a 1 - 5 - 4??

Lallana missed most of the swa game - Firmino went on to score a brace. Against poor sides they are good whatever the line up. Southampton, like Middlesbrough, have learnt how to deal with the bigger sides. It was a good defensively display and Firmino and Coutinho both came very close.

Not really. Firmino missed a sitter.

I did for Austin and Firmino for Sanchez. Could backfire spectacularly

Would you start Amat (CRY) or Diomande (WBA) ?

Amat. Diomande was benched the games leading up to his suspension. Nothing to say he'll go back into the team now.

If Sturridge starts for pool which some fans think he might who would you guys rather have the armband on. Coutinho or firmino?

Firmino tends to get better scores when Sturridge is on the pitch right? With coutinho dropping deeper?
