Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think Sterling will be fabulous value and an amazing differential at 5.0m in the repeat fixture against Burnley in GW 20.

What do you think, Coutinho and Aguero out for Kane and Hazard.
    Rest of the team is:
    Heaton-Grant
    Amat-MacAuley-Coleman-Chambers-Morgan
    Sanchez-Gundogan-Walcott-Shaqiri
    Costa-Rondon

May look to swap Sanchez and Walcott for Ozil and Firmino/Mane over the following game weeks

I think that's a pretty good trade if using 2 FTs.

I still own Mane and have talked him up on this site, but do get the feeling he's overpriced. Eg Hazard much better for 1m more, Sig, Sterling, Pedro equalling him recently.

He has offered a good captaincy option at home though.

      1. Darth
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 21 days ago

Thanks, yeah would use 2fts. I have had him for the majority of the season, he doesn't tend to do as well against teams that park the bus which is my reasoning for him instead of firmino

          • 15 Years

He certainly lacks the finesse of Coutinho and Firmino, but when Liverpool are at their free-flowing best, he gets a lot of chances and probably will score 10+ this season.

I'd make that trade for 2 FTs. I'll be doing the same but with Coutinho.

I would say nay - selling kaku is madness imo, particularly if you got in at 9.0m. Just leave him & harvest his 200 points, he might get a few blanks along the way but you need to take the rough with the smooth.

Kun > Kane still the right move for next 4 weeks, then reassess for crimbo congestion fixtures 🙂

Agree in the main, but think anyone who takes Aguero out is just asking for trouble. He is the only player who regardless of form (unless injured) should be in ever team. The Lukaku point is very valid and had Coutinho not got indjured he'd have stayed I think.

For free I'd certainly do it, for a hit, only if you plan to captain Kane 3 of next 4 weeks and start McAuley (i.e. you have a weak defensive bench). You could also wait and monitor Lukaku and if McAuley is too expensive you could buy Nyom / Evans in a few days time - not like McAuley will score every week. Probably has 2 more goals in him, max, the rest of the season - ~15 pts difference to a Nyom/Evans over 20+ weeks...

How is Nyom not nailed? That comment baffles me. He was a Pulis signing - has started and played every match and is a natural defender, an international, in the prime of his career. Brunt is a winger, always has been for 10+ years. Played one season out of position (last season) as a defender. Confuses me when I see this, though don't know West Brom in and out.

Capoue has decent fixtures. I'm 'happy' enough for him to cover my no shows for a while.

Last few overall ranks have been 105k, 104k, 116k and now down to 133k, just can't get into the 5 figure zone!
