Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you had to choose between Eriksen (8.1), Walcott (7.8) & Son (7.2)... factoring in price... who would you pick?

Just watching delayed MOTD, how has Taylor got that assist?! It was Fernandez, no 33, not Taylor, no 3.

No-one owns either of them them, but that's an absolute joke.

Costa for free or Kane -4? It's obvious right? I'm confused by the 100% love for Kane over Costa here though... Is it herd mentality or something else?

It's tight, the possible Costa yellow swings it for me, but they're both going to do well over the next few GWs.

Indeed... If Costa gets his yellow it's gonna be -4 for me anyway, but still I'm tempted to not take the hit, as I don't even have a clue who I'd downgrade... Currently 0.1m short of Coutinho/Lukaku --> Siggy/Kane.... Who knows, FPL is unpredictable, Costa might score against City and after that the fixtures are great... Chelsea are the better attacking team at the moment imo...

But have Spurs been worse because Kane was out? 🙂

I can do that move for free, so that's probably making me biased.

I'd probably do it too if it was for free 🙂

It's a lottery anyway, isn't it, so I could just let the reality of it decide it for me and go for Costa.... It's close to 50/50 anyway... (I hope :D)

I lost my ML last season because of Team Value x)

I could afford Cresswell whereas my ML rival had Reid because he couldn't afford Cresswell (he told me he wanted to get Cresswell too but didn't have the money) and Reid scored and Cresswell didn't in GW36 or GW37 or whatever and he beat me by 2pts in the end....

It's actually funny how you play for 38 weeks and yet the difference ends up being 2pts which can be stuff like Reid or Cresswell in the end 🙂

For some reason, no one here likes Costa except Costa owners lol. He's been my best purchase this season. Even if he gets that 5th yellow, I'm benching him.

It's strange though how he just hasn't gotten that 5th yellow... Seems like he's really made up his mind about that, that he's doing everything he can to avoid it.... And if that's the case, I'd have him right away... (I bet I will buy Costa this week and he'll get the yellow against City :D)...

Rashford and Wilson should also be added to the list of doubts/ration risks. My first two moves would be Cout > Siggy and Rash (if he doesn't start tomorrow) > Austin/Defoe/Llorente. I think transfers in your defence have to wait this week. Your priority should be to field 7 attackers. I think Gundogan will start against Chelsea, but Zaha is a decent shout if you want to jump on that bandwagon. I wouldn't be afraid to take a few hits and sort out long term, but start with your strikers and midfield

Coutinho if you think he is out.

  9. Champione

Anyone thought about benching Coutinho for a couple of weeks, if he's ruled out for let's say 2-3 games? There are a couple of budget friendly 5.5 mids who are delivering atm and can cover the 4th mid for some week. Cout > Siggy is a decent move, but do we honestly think that Siggy will outscore our 4th defender when playing Spurs (Holebas/Pieters etc)?

    1. b✪mber
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 21 days ago

He's among the highest owned players, so he'll drop rapidly. Probably gonna drop at the rate of -0.2 to -0.3 per week, so if you're OK with losing 0.4-0.6M on him in 3 weeks than that's fine

(I'm just assuming he'll be out for 3 weeks - he might be out for sooner or even later)

It's more about what you can do with the spare cash and not let all that money be left on the bench.

For me Cout -> Siggy means that I have exactly the cash I need to upgrade Lukaku to Kane. Sigurdsson also looks like a more than decent pick for his fixtures after spurs

Trying to get Kane/Costa in my team is giving me a headache. There are so many players i have that i dont want to drop and the only one's that i dont mind dropping dont give me the necessary funds. Guess you cant have them all. Any thoughts on this team would be greatly appreciated 🙂

    Heaton/Pickford
    Alonso, Holebas, Brunt, Lovren, Amat
    Sanchez, Firminio, Hazard, Snoddy, Siggy

I finally have the will and funds to get a premium defender. Stones to:
    A) Alonso
    B) Walker
    C) Mustafi
    D) Monreal
    E) Clyne
    F) Someone else

I've gone Alonso, Clyne was tempting but Chelsea safer at back

Who was it that tipped Negredo in the scout cast, did they buy him?
