Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    After a dry 2-3 weeks and seeing myself drop from 3k to 15k, I have decided to play my WC. Currently on
    Foster Heaton

    Out of curiosity, was there any kind of comment from Pep about Gundogan's omission from the match day squad?

    I'm a non-owner but it would seem odd unless forced. There were four bench options that could play wide, but none that could fulfil a deep-lying role of say Fernando or Fernandinho. Gundo has been further forward than that yes, but he can meet both briefs.

    Seems odd to leave him out totally if available...

        Cheers TM. Just seems like if would be sensible to have him there for insurance just in case Fernando pulled a hammy in the first 5 or something...guess he would have just dropped Yaya a bit deeper and resorted to KDB early on.

        I've avoided that minefield and I will continue to. Enough to give me nightmares.

    Ibra might give us something to think about tomorrow. Trying to weigh it up between Ibra, Kane and Costa. Obviously keeping Aguero after his brace.

    Kane seems to be the best bet but Ibra's stats are much better and United have good fixtures too. Whats the plan if Ibra gets a hattrick?

          That's what I mean though. He's getting the shots, they just aren't going in, whether by good keeping or pure bad luck. I don't think he's doing much wrong and a good game won't help him.

            Yup. I'm convinced. Swansea might not be able to defend but they've shown the heart required and Llorente might bag a few goals now he has a couple under his belt....most likely assisted by Siggy's crosses. That win yesterday will have been a massive confidence booster.

              They had to show some heart too. To find yourselves 4-3 down after being 3-1 up. And bottom of the table already. How easy would it have been to buckle? Fair play to them really.

              I'm not sure what their hopes are looking ahead, but I'm satisfied Siggy will produce. GL

    As a Fuchs owner how long do I keep him. Surely with Sunderland next week he has to get more than 0 which he's scored in the last 2 games. Hell I'm not even confident Leicester will keep a cs at all especially since their away form has been shocking. He's currently at -94% to drop in price so it looks like his price will go down before next gw. I think it's time to sell. However I still own Coutinho who will probably drop in price as well unless he makes a dramatic recovery. I might have to take a -4 hit this week or just take 1 price drop on the chin. So who's more important to sell:
    (a) Fuchs (I can bench him this week if needed) or
    (b) Coutinho or
    (c) take a -4 hit for both.
    As a big fan of hits of course I'll go for (c).
    Thoughts & thanks.

      Looked like a clod mostly, scored a pointblank offside goal that was rightly disallowed. Mostly handled by the CBs in hold up play. But it looks like many are getting him in for upcoming fixture stroll and captaining for GW 14. He seems to score even when he looks half fit.

      You'll want to hide Philips soon.

        Mmmmm, true. Any of these better?

        B) Sanchez, Cout & Defoe -> Mane, Siggy & Kane (-4)
        C) Sanchez, Cout & Defoe -> Hazard, Redmond & Kane (-4)
        D) Cech, Cout & Defoe -> Foster, Redmond & Kane (-4)

          Need to see if Sanchez is worth keeping. West Ham next is delicious.

        Not Defoe. Who's the third striker? Luka or Austin to go before Defoe.

    Team needs a bit of an overhaul after being busy for the last week or so:

    Heaton, Jaku
    Kos, Alonso, Williams, Holebas, Amat
    Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, Allen, Fletcher
    Aguero, Lukaku, Austin

    2ft, 0.2ITB
    Does Lukaku, Allen, Williams > Defoe, Siggy, Cedric for a -4 look good?
    Knee jerk I know but should fix things

    Moses, Zaha or Phillips?
