With the dust barely settled from the weekend’s action, Gameweek 17 is upon us immediately and we’ve still the small matter of announcing the Round Five fixtures for the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that however, let’s take a minute to reflect on the results from Round Four, which can be viewed right here. The headlines…

A brand new name will be etched onto the mythical Cup, as reigning champ Ninja_Fit_Saints become the fourth and final former winner to meet his match. Mayhey Kid took the scalp 56 – 39, to complete the four-week demise of the Cup royalty.

There’s no stopping Mark though, who dispatched Hassyg 72 – 55 booking his place in the last 64. That score of 72 earned the Scout leader a bronze medal for the week, bettered only by Dyslexia United‘s 73 (- 32 Tommytabs123) and Milton Millieiscos‘ top-scoring 77 (- 46 F.Y.F.B).

Now, onto the fifth round draw… The 32 fixtures are available to peruse right here.

The highest-ranked fantasy manager left in the competition is non other than Der-Hammer95, sitting a hugely impressive 356th overall. He comes up against s4petah, who beat the round three top-scorer at the weekend.

Mark’s fine run looks set to continue, as he has drawn the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition, Mighty Manchester.

Good luck to all 64 participants, and we’ll bring you the results and subsequent fixtures in plenty of time before the Boxing Day Premier League games.

      Seeing as Dyer was your bench warmer. Surely Go dyer to Moses and take advantage of his price rise tonight?

      I did Dyer > Tiote last night. He's a bargain at 4.4, picked up a few assists before his injury and play 81 mins in gw16 which suggests he's back

      almost the exact same team as you. cept I have sturridge instead of ba, jones instead of kompany and enrique instead of evans. anwways I went with shelvey. figured he's worth a punt and if he doesnt play then someone else (this week walters or a defender) can come off the bench.

    Find it amusing when the confidence and arrogance in some advice given by some people on here isn't reflected in their ranking. Suppose it's a form of compensatory issue.

      Alot of the scoring can also be luck mate. Have some people in my league who made the worst selections Ive ever seen and those players either got lucky or didnt play and their bench had a stormer. I think now they begin to drop back and the luck is more minimal.

            😆

            It doesn't invalidate your point at all brother. However, it is implicit in your comment that you are someone who values current or previous rankings as a means to evaluating the worth of advice given here. For that reason it does seem a little odd that you do not link your own team.

            My bigger gripe on here is that too many people come here seeking advice while only a select group of helpful people are trying to give it. FFS is a well and if everyone just takes the water out and no puts some back in, it will dry up.

              Point taken! Also agree with your second paragraph..

              But I don't take anyone's ranking as a guide to the value of anyone's advice. I seldom click on the link to the teams tbh.. But when the arrogant ones are roaming I click on their team to see if they can back up their arrogance and they rarely can.

                  I'm a bit late on this, so will probably not get read anyway, but no way are you 'arrogant' IT. And you are one of the ones whose advice I listen to (even if I don't always follow through on it), partly because you have the runs on the board, but mostly because it makes good sense. Maybe not the Baines (c) punt last week though... 😉

      Generally those people that make the most noise dont really have a clue. Mind you current rankings mean very little at this stage in the game.

      Previous ranking a lot more indicative. Would you listen to someone who's last 3 finishes were (most recent first) 2300, 3300 and 28000, but whos current rank is 60k?

      Rankings have nothing to do with the worth of advice given. Luck plays a part but at the end of the day as long as you make sensible decisions then you are ok. I choose not to link my team because I have my mini-league rival and nemesis here and he always monitors my moves trying to counter them. I have lost many points because of that while he refuses to link his.
      Why should I??

    I have Wilkinson & Bale on orange & Gower only played 46 mins in last game (anyone know why?)
    I have 0.5 in bank-Should I do nothing & have 2 frees next time or:
    1. Wilkinson> J Evans uses all my funds & nothing in bank if Sturridge rises above Ba that I currently have at 7.1 with plan to swap for Gm19.
    2. Wilkinson> Caulker is Rangel now fit-does this mean caulker at risk.

    A. Presumably it's the fear of rotation keeping the Man City duo of Silva and Aguero down the captain poll?

    B. Why is G Cahill still one of the most popular selected defenders in this game STILL? 😕

      A) for silva yes, but aguero will start so he should be top of the poll imo

      B) there are loads of dead teams with Cahill, he's 5.2 which will b great if he joins a big 6 team and nails down a place

    Just wondered what your views on best super cheap defender would be to replace McAuley?
    a) Shotton (benched this week, Walters starting instead)
    b) Santon (played this week, Walters benched)
    c) Double up on Swansea (got N.Taylor) and get Caulker

        Hey, thanks very much KOL...i write a weekly article for another support site, if you click on my user name, you will see the latest...anyway, here's the post, it was from a Newcastle fanzine forum:

        Newcastle v Blackburn
        Yohan Cabaye was the Newcastle United player to cover the most ground (12,106m/7.52miles) against Blackburn, followed by Cheik Tiote (11,612m/7.22miles)

        Wolves v Newcastle
        Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote topped the charts for distance covered again with 11.7km and 12.1km respectively

        Newcastle v Spurs
        Midfield duo Yohan Cabaye (7.5 miles) and Cheik Tiote(7.05 miles) covered the most ground of any Newcastle player during the game again proving they are playing a huge part in the Toon Army’s unbeaten start to the season

        Newcastle V Wigan
        Cabaye (7.04 miles) and Tiote (6.87 miles) covered more distance during the game than any other Newcastle player. Both players also had the highest average speed during the game for Newcastle with Cabaye averaging 5.46mph and Tiote 5.04mph.

        Tiote and Cabaye are the 2nd and 3rd hardest working players in the Premier League, having covered 72.12 km and 71.85 km respectively in the league so far, behind only Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey. Cabaye has the 4th highest tackle success rate with a 65% success rate from his 43 tackles. When interviewed by Sky Sports ahead of the Tottenham home game both Ryan and Steven Taylor singled out French midfielder Yohan Cabaye as the player they have been most impressed by this season.

        Top 10 Premier League Partnerships

        3 - Scott Parker and Luka Modric
        2 - David Silva and Sergio Aguero
        1 - Yohann Cabaye and Chiek Tiote

        Not that many teams play 4-4-2 these days. The fashion is to pack the midfield to ensure control of possession, and therefore control the game. This is clearly most efficiently done in a variant of a 4-5-1 formation, giving yourself an extra man in the middle to do some extra work. Of course, Newcastle don't actually have to play three in midfield, because they have Cabaye and Tiote. EA Sports, who are doing the Premier League's statistics these days, run a 'Team of the Week' on their website, and whichever poor whelp has to write the thing must be getting terribly bored, because every week they seem to write 'Cabaye covered the most ground, followed by Tiote.' The pair usually get through 14 miles a game between them. 14 miles. That's...well, it's a long way. In more ways than one, they're the central reason that Newcastle's season has started so damned well.

        Massive, massive player for us!

      Your welcome mate...the post outlined the energy and industry of cabaye and Tiote, illustarting the work they put in in the heart of Newcastle's midfield...the pair seem to be making the side 'tick' this season....however Fratboy, given the fixtures I'd personally still pick Simpson over Walters this game-week

    A) Bale-->Nani, Klasnic-->Holt

    B) Bale-->Nani, Ramsey-->Gomez (Giving me the Moses/Gomez one two :S)

    C) Ramsey-->Nani, Baines-->Perch

    D) Forget that fool Nani, just do Bale-->Valencia and get some work done.

    Hi folks. Which do people think should be my priority for this evening?

    1.Wilko -> Gabbidon
    2.Dyer -> Holy One.
    3.Brown -> Evans.

    I’d rather do 3, but of the players going out, Brown is the only one who plays, which might save him.

    Yep, pretty dull transfers. But I’m getting injuries by the bucketload at the moment. Other problems include not having any spare change for the bandwagon Ba -> Sturridge switch in a couple of weeks, Im worried I might have to downgrade my midfield to do so.

        Hoping Taylor will be back this week. I got him in at 4.1, so would get 4.7 for him if my maths is correct. Not going to shunt him along just yet, will wait and see. I could easily do Wilko -> Gabbidon pre deadline, and Dyer -> Moses post, but that is just pretty unininspiring, and leaves me wide open to anything that happens. Urgh.

      I only think this is a good idea if you're happy to have Fromica on your bench after this week right through to the January wildcard. He's got two tough fixtures after this week, and although he then has two easy ones it's difficult to imagine you benching Sturridge or Drenthe in those weeks.

        I don't think it would be the end of the world if Caulker came on for you this week and you just saved the freebie.

      Formica is awful. Gomez and Moses are good value, but have poor fixtures. With Lennon out I'd say Bale will be rushed back so I'd keep the FT for the weekend.

    Apparently Rafael is pushing for his place against Fulham tomorrow, beware all Smalling and Evans owners. One of them could be looking to lose out there!

        Fergies, not Man United's haha, I'd say Smalling was better to be honest.

      Do u not think with the lack of Vidic, Fergie will be looking for a settled back 4? I was just thinking he might ease Rafael back and maybe play him in the FA Cup, it doesnt seem like even when Rafael has been fit, Fergie really trusts him as much as he used to.

        Fergie loves him! I would hope that we'd keep the same starting line up again tomorrow though, the fact we aren't rotating is brilliant and definitely why we're getting some form together. All the previous rotation didn't help at all.

          The rotation thing is what i mean. Does Fergie still love him tho? Wasnt he fit towards the end of last season when Fabio was getting more games, and more important games like the CL Final?

          I forgot they have City 😆

          Fair enough, im just not sure Rafael is gonna walk back in the side, we know Fergie doesnt mind leaving someone in the wilderness if he feels it necessary. I just think he'll be looking for consistancy in his back 4.

      i would normally say yes but this gameweek i maybe wouldn't. yak could explode against bolton and gomez against liverpool would likely only get 2 points more than ferguson. never know though, all it takes is one dive in the box and gomez is in there
