Gareth Bale is “very doubtful” for Spurs game against Chelsea. Emmanuel Adebayor has a foot problem but is expected to play. John Terry and Ramires are passed fit for the clash, while Jamie O’Hara is sidelined for up to six weeks after undergoing hernia surgery:

Andre Villas-Boas had some positive news on the injury front in this afternoon’s press conference. Both John Terry and Ramires are available for tomorrow night’s trip to Spurs, though David Luiz has been ruled out, having failed to recover from a knee problem.

Chelsea have also this afternoon confirmed their Boxing Day clash with Fulham will take place at the scheduled time of 1pm. The game had been under review due to the proposed industrial strike on the London Underground but after consideration, the club have made the decision to go ahead as planned.

Harry Redknapp’s Press Conference was a little more pessimistic in terms of injury news. Although the Spurs boss admitted Aaron Lennon’s hamstring problem is not as bad as first feared, he has concerns over the availability of key players ahead of the Chelsea game, with Gareth Bale the main concern:

Gareth’s struggling at the moment. He hasn’t been able to train. He’s very doubtful. It normally takes six or seven days for Ledley’s knee to go down, so we’ll have to wait and see how it is today and tomorrow. He’ll be 50-50 at best I would imagine. Jermain, again, has a bit of a hamstring. He thinks he’s got a chance, but the physio isn’t keen on him taking a chance. Ade’s got a foot problem, we’ll see how he is. He can’t train today, but we’re hopeful. He doesn’t miss too many games.

Jamie O’Hara is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks after undergoing double hernia surgery. The midfielder was sidelined for the weekend home game against Stoke with a calf injury but the club’s official website revealed today that O’Hara has been bothered with a hernia problem for some time and the decision has been made to operate, thus ensuring he is 100% fit for the rest of the campaign.

Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs are both out of Arsenal’s trip to Aston Villa this evening. Arsene Wenger had expected the latter to be available but Gibbs has suffered a setback, meaning either Thomas Vermaelen or Ignasi Miquel could start at left-back. Djourou’s absence means Laurent Koscielny is likely to be fielded at right-back, with Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson still both sidelined.

      I think theres a difference between a racist and someone who uses racist terms in a given situation. Terry has hugged the likes of Drogba and Ashley Cole for many a year when celebrating a goal. Doubt a true racist would do that lol.

          Tricky one, I think a lot of people would say that no matter how angry they got, they would never use racist language, as it's just not in their vocabulary. So the fact that he used that language, even in the heat of the moment, means that on some level he is racist.

          But yeah, a person can still have good mates of different colour skin but be capable of using racist language. There's no contradiction there. I think if I was Ashley Cole etc I'd be asking questions though.

              Not sure that analogy quite works. Would your 'fat prick' mates still like you if they heard you calling someone else a 'fat prick'? Probably they would.

              Would your black friends still be mates with you if they heard you calling someone a 'filthy n****r' (as a serious insult)?? Maybe not.

              It's a tricky point. There's an argument to say that the definition of being racist is abusing/insulting/undermining others based on the colour of their skin, so to make a racist remark necessarily makes you a racist.

      So in UK if you say anything you could be prosecuted ? If I sat something about your mother or I don't know (sorry I don't want to be rude just want to be informed) say something that could offend you that means I am not able to play football. No freedom of speech or this is only about racist comments? I believe that during the game often the players are frustrated and tensed and they say staff that they don't mean.

        In the UK, if you use racial language yes you can be prosecuted. Thankfully, we live in a country which recognises this as unlawful.

        Freedom is speech does not mean you can say whatever you like, if it harasses or incites hatred against another. I don't understand how people can fail to wrap their heads around this.

        Being frustrated and tense is not an excuse. He is on TV in front of millions of people and its right that the CPS demonstrate unequivocally that this behavior is not acceptable in our society. And I'm grateful that this is the case.

          If I did shout out "c'mon nigga" - nothing would happen to me because I'm dark skinned. If Whitey next to me shouted it out, i'm sure it would be a different story. Luis Suares is dark skinned is he not. "Negrito" to him is a term of comraderie. Not saying it should be accepted, just as "nigga" should not be accepted either. Ignorance does not equal innocence - regardless of how we mean it, we definitely need to understand that there are historically racist underpinnings to these terms. We may not consider ourselves racist, but these terms are born from it, and so they should be eradicated in the most efficient ways.
          Still does not make Suarez a racist, just ignorant - I think the punishment was fair.

    Given Vorm
    BAE Simpson Jones Enrique Brown
    Nani Silva Walters Dyer Drenthe
    RVP Ade Ba

    2.9M in bank. 2FTs. Worth obliterating team for Rooney? Or sort out deadwoood?

    1 – Nani + Ba —>Valenica/Larsson + Rooney (only real way to have rooney and ade)
    2 – Given + Ade —->Sorensen + Rooney
    3 – Dyer + Ade —-> Gower/Reo Cocker + Rooney
    4 – Brown + Ade —->Rooney + Gabbidon

        Very interesting:

        "We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult."

      Suarez is set to be subject to a 2nd FA charge following an incident during the recent Aston Villa game.

      Apparently somebody overheard him calling Emile Heskey a striker!

    How do you play the market in FPL most effectively? Or are you best just to concentrate on the players who you think will get you the most points and a good sell on price is just a by-product?

      if the player is a season keeper e.g. jones, rvp.
      then a rise in price means nothing.

      but if the player is interchangeable e.g. bale/VDV, or ur 5th midfield,
      then a price change could affect ur strategy.

      that's what my thought, at least

      Always go for the players who you think will score best.

      The only thing you should let the market affect is the TIMING of those transfers. If you are going to sell someone for them, sell them before they fall. If you are going to buy someone, buy them before they rise.

      Usually the players you want are rising anyway because they did well and that's why you want them.

      B... if you get players that are coming into form then you can usually expect to get a price rise as other people jump on the bandwagon. You get the points first and the money accumulates after.

    Seriously, the FA getting all high and mighty about setting the standard for dealing with football? They're miles behind. If someone was found to have said something racists in most professions they'd be struck off.

    I know this won't happen, but I'd love to see the FA really man up and say that they're not allowed to play professional football in England anymore. For such high profile cases they really should be duty bound to set an example. Sitting there happy with themselves about a few games ban and an insignificant (to them) fine is a bit pathetic imo.

        The goal shouldn;t be to make players think about what they say, it should be to show that racism will not be accepted in football, end of story.

        Like I say, I know they won;t do it but they are miles behind most other professions, but more in the public spotlight. I don;t know why people take this, 'oh but they're footballers' attitude and let them get away with what they want? They're in a ridiculously priveledged position anyway, they should be a bit more responsible.

      You'll probs want Ade back in for DGW, and Valencia is more of a rotation risk than Nani, not sure it is tbh.

        Perhaps, but I am tempted by the fact that the leader in one of my mini leagues is a big Man U fan and he's got Valencia in his team! I know its a risk though, Valencia/Young rotation looks more likely

          CPS guidance on sentencing for racially aggravated crime:
          http://www.cps.gov.uk/publications/prosecution/rrpbcrpol_annex_a.html#_01

          Unclear what category Terry falls under but if it's "Racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress" he can get up to 2 years' jail at crown court or 6 months' at magistrates' court. Unlikely though.

      Most likely a fine and community service I'd assume. I don't think he'll do jail time, that would be OTT.

    Anyone else wonder whether this Bale fit malarky is just Harry being mischievous and he is fit and raring to go. I fancy Spurs tonight. Keep your Spurs and Chelsea goal threats as I dont see this being cagey!

    If anyone is worried about Drenthe for away games, here's a thought: he rotates brilliantly with Walters who himself is great at home, but less so away...

      Never mind away, I am worried about Drenthe at home. I have had him since GW12 and he has taken me close to tears. If he doesnt start tonight then Operation Rooney is cancelled and he is shafted quicker than you can say Royston Rickie Drenthe.

    You know what? I reckon Harry is playing mindgames by pretending Bale is less likely to play than he is. I recall Bale's problem started with a report of spraining his ankle in training, hopeful, then progressed to probably making the Chelsea game, now has become very doubtful, I think he's trying to tie his opponents in knots.

    Wouldn't be surprised to see Bale start tomorrow.

        I don't think too highly of him as a player but honestly, who else is there? Can't be Terry, Rooney is just asking for trouble, Gerrard is always injured and has a chequered past himself.

        Parker is limited on the pitch but in exactly the kind of way England need and could be even more so as the captain.
