Following yesterday’s look at the teams who face the most favourable upcoming schedules, our focus now turns to those braced for trickier times ahead.

The limited assets among the Stoke City and Hull City’s rosters have their stock reduced by a testing spell, while Tottenham Hotspur’s prospects must also be called into question in the coming month.

Stoke City

(liv, che, WAT, sun, MUN, EVE)

The Potters face four of the current top nine over the coming period, suggesting that returns are likely to be in short supply, particularly in attacking areas.

Over the last four Gameweeks, Liverpool have allowed the fewest shots inside the box (16), while Chelsea have only conceded once.

Goals also look set to be hard to come by against Man United, given that Jose Mourinho’s men have been breached on just two occasions in their last four matches, while Sunderland have kept clean sheets in two of their last four at the Stadium of Light.

So while the Watford match-up is pretty favourable, it’s likely that Joe Allen and his fellow Stoke City attackers will struggle to garner returns over the next month or so.

From a defensive standpoint, it’s more of a mixed bag.

Liverpool have netted nine goals in their last four matches and will be backed to find find further goals, while Chelsea haven’t failed to score since Gameweek 6. United look to have turned the corner over the past week, so they also appear likely to breach the Potters rearguard.

Nonetheless, with Everton’s Romelu Lukaku struggling for goals and the Watford and Sunderland clashes also offering a decent chance of defensive returns, owners of Erik Pieters and Lee Grant may be happy to hold for now.

Hull City

(MCI, EVE, wba, BOU, che, mun)

Up against six of the current top 10, it’s difficult to find any positives among the Tigers’ forthcoming schedule.

Certainly, from a defensive standpoint, clean sheets are surely set to remain scarce, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all fancied to notch against Mike Phelan’s rearguard, while West Bromwich Albion have scored 10 goals in their last four home matches.

Bournemouth have also netted in each of their last three away trips, while Everton will provide testing opposition.

Hull’s defenders have been off the radar all season, having conceded 36 goals, and that will surely remain the case over the next six Gameweeks.

From an attacking point of view, goals appear unlikely at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, but the other four fixtures could perhaps see Phelan’s side grab featch a handful of goals.

City have only managed one clean sheet in seven, while Bournemouth have conceded six goals in their last two away matches.

The West Brom and Everton match-ups could also see Hull score, but with no favourable fixture in the next six, Robert Snodgrass’ 5.2% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will no doubt be forming exit plans in and around the festive spell.

Tottenham Hotspur

(sot, wat, CHE, WBA, mci, sun)

Mauricio Pochettino’s side only face two of their next six at home, and face a very mixed run of fixtures over the upcoming weeks.

Goals could be hard to come by in the short-term, given that Southampton have kept clean sheets in their last three home encounters, while Chelsea have managed nine shut-outs in their previous 11 matches.

Watford have shipped eight goals in their last four, but West Brom are unlikely to concede many, while, although City are vulnerable at the back, a trip to the Etihad also has to be seen as an unfavourable match-up.

The trip to Sunderland is appealing, however, particularly if the Black Cats are without the likes of Lamine Kone and Papy Djilobodji due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The form of Christian Eriksen could mean he can still keep ticking over though this spell, but three consecutive blanks has the alarm bells ringing for Harry Kane owners.

The Tottenham forward is the second most transferred player out in FPL this week, with over 87,000 managers shedding the England international.

The outlook isn’t perhaps quite so gloomy for the prospects of Spurs defenders, with Saints having failed to score in two of their last four, while Sunderland and Watford are also struggling for goals, managing just three and four respectively over the last four Gameweeks.

The West Brom clash in Gameweek 21 is also reasonably favourable, although defensive returns appear unlikely against Chelsea and City.

It’s the ability of Tottenham defenders to register attacking returns that keeps them as viable options for our five-man backlines, but premium defenders from Chelsea and Arsenal, in particular, may prove to be stronger options over the next few weeks.

Also be wary of…

Sunderland
The Black Cats come up against a number of tough defences over the next six Gameweeks (mun, bur, LIV, STO, wba, TOT), so Jermain Defoe’s 25.4% ownership should perhaps be considering their options.

The Sunderland striker has proven he can score against any opposition, but chances are going to be at a premium, with United, Liverpool and Spurs the three sides allowing the fewest number of shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks.

Burnley and West Brom are also fairly strong at home, while Stoke City have kept three clean sheets in their last five.

Sunderland defenders haven’t been popular options this season, mainly due to the value offered by Jordan Pickford, and save points will likely be required for the young goalkeeper to keep ticking over through some difficult fixtures.

Liverpool
The Reds face a very mixed run of fixtures (STO, MCI, sun, mun, SWA, CHE) over the next six Gameweeks, although four of their next six are at home.

They will also have to deal with the absence of Sadio Mane due to the AFCON, with the winger expected to leave after the Gameweek 20 clash against Sunderland. The expected return of Philippe Coutinho in the New Year should soften that blow, however.

Jurgen Klopp’s side should still be able to find the back of the net on a regular basis, particularly in the short-term, although goals may be scarce against United and Chelsea.

Defensive returns appear less likely, though, with City, United and Chelsea all expected to breach the Reds backline, meaning Liverpool defenders are perhaps best ignored over the coming window.

Swansea City
Once the next two home matches against West Ham United and Bournemouth are out of the way, the Swans’ schedule (cpl, ARS, liv, SOT) turns particularly nasty.

Clean sheets, in particular, appear very unlikely in those four matches, so Jordi Amat looks likely to remain consigned to our benches, as he has been for the majority of the season.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s ownership has increased over the past few weeks, with form and fixtures both in his favour, but with that about to change, the Iceland international looks set to be moved on by many Fantasy managers in the New Year.

The same can also be said of Fernando Llorente, as there looks to be stronger budget forward options available once we edge into 2017.

I think a Chelsea defender like Alonso looks a must now as they are very strong defensively and Conte's teams have always been well drilled defensively
plus there are chances Alonso getting among goals or assists even if he don't get a cleanie

remember when Chelsea had difficult fixtures 10-11 weeks ago
they came sailing past that test with 9 cleanies in 11

    3-4-3 has really changed all

so for me Alonso is must

When do the AFCON squads get announced? Has Zaha actually declared for Ivory Coast or were they just newspaper rumours? Is he actually good enough to get into the squad?

I'm WC'ing right after the deadline on Boxing Day and have prepared several drafts with Zaha and/or Benteke. Don't want Benteke if Zaha is leaving. Really annoying not knowing anything.

I think Jones will sit out atleast 1 match in next 3

Mourinho' “I think Jones and Marcos they did five great matches for us, five in a row playing so well and so solid but it’s too much just for them.

“So we have Eric back for just a couple of weeks and then he goes to AFCON, but in this busy Christmas period it allows us to rotate a little bit is a good protection for us.”

    Club Statement – 22nd December 2016

Crystal Palace F.C. have today asked Alan Pardew to step down as Manager of the Club.

Club Chairman Steve Parish said, “I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude for the tremendous service Alan has given us, both in his time here as Manager and previously as a player. Following a fantastic second half of 2014/15, the 2015/16 season culminated in only narrowly missing out on winning the FA cup as well as securing our Premier League place for a record breaking fourth time. During his tenure Alan’s hard work and dedication were without question, he has improved so many areas of the Club and we wish him the very best for the future.

With games now coming thick and fast over the holiday period the Club are hoping to put someone in place as quickly as possible but have nothing to say about a replacement at this time.

Do you think the festive period should affect the club's decision?

If they waited until their next match on the 1st of January would that have been a more classy way to handle the situation?

Not sure the timing is that significant. If Pardew was offered a big job pre-Christmas would he lack class for leaving them at such a time?

I think if they wanted to sack him they should have done it far earlier, not three days before Christmas.

Arguably he should have gone after the Swansea defeat. Can't see what's changed since then - if anything Palace did an ok job against Sou and Che and there's less evidence to sack him now.

Also there is a huuuugge difference in someone being sacked before Christmas and someone taking a job before Christmas.

Just looks bad whatever the profession. I've got friends in other jobs who hve been made redundant this week as well - even with a pay off its not nice, hence the 'classy' jibe at Palace

....and yes I'm a Brighton fan, so can be as insulting as I like to Palace's hierachy 😉

I appreciate it could and should have happened earlier, difficult to know what goes on behind the scenes though and relations between a chairman/owner and the manager could reach breaking point at any time despite the owner trying to give the manager time to turn things around.

It's truly awful timing to be made redundant at Christmas for the average working man. I think multi-million pound earning footballers and managers won't feel the effects in quite the same way.

I was meaning a manager wouldn't think twice about leaving a club managerless at this time of year if he was offered a bigger job so I don't think the club owe him any loyalty particularly when the club don't see him taking them in the right direction.

Hard to tell. Comfortably the top scorers of all the bottom 15 teams. They might not be as free scoring but Benteke might become more central to what they do. All depends on who the replacement is really.

In the short term we probably shouldn't see too much change in Palace. Caretaker is likely to be one of the coaches, who will probably avoid rocking the boat and play a similar style i.e. high balls up to Benteke and loads of crosses. So I'm happy to hold on to Benteke at least for the short term

Let's say this here too, then: I'm surprised Pardew had to go first. There are much more positives to build on in Palace's game than in for example Swansea's, Sunderland's or West Ham's.

Big Sam in means more focus on Ben Trucker as the lone target man. It might also make their defensive assets more valuable.

However, with a new manager and a whole month of potential transfers in and out there is just too much uncertainty for me, so I will avoid until February.

No prob, I am a movie and TV junkie. I could add many more (Master of None, The Killing, The Missing, Happy Valley, Broadchurch, The OA), but did not want to overwhelm or look like a bigger geek than I already do. If you go to IMDB and search on some of the shows you like, or some you are interested in, I think there would be some kind of link indicating similar shows. I know that Netflix does this. Some of the shows I listed are on Amazon Prime (e.g. Transparent, Mozart). Amazon does have a few very good originals.

TD season 2 is better than most say. Most compare it to season 1, which was superior, but compared to most TV, True Detective season 2 is very good, and easily movie level quality. The acting is superb (Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell in particular). Linear story line that is much easier to follow, too.

It's funny that a show where people gets graphically ripped apart by zombies doesn't allow the use of the F word. Would like to see an English speaking person not screaming F this and that if chased by zombies. Can't watch it because of this.

If you like weird, cult, horror, there are quite a few shows out now that are fun and good, and NOT the walking dead (so jumped the shark). Most of these below are horror-comedy:

Ash vs Evil Dead (Evil Dead folks know that these movies are classics; this series is so much fun)
      Preacher
      Crazyhead (brand new on Netflix)
      Stan vs. Evil
Movie: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is so much fun, too
      Z Nation

Ha! If I knew a fraction as much about FPL as TV/Film, I'd have a much better rank! If you liked Tucker and Dale, you will prolly like Ash, Stan and Crazyhead. Preacher is more existential/religious, yet really cool.

Oz - brilliant and brutal US prison drama from the 90s. JK Simmons is brilliant in it, and Winston from Ghostbusters is the warden!

Just finished that recently, thought it was very good. JK Simmons was great in it, started watching more films with him in them after that just because of Oz.

He was good in Whiplash as well.

Oz! One of my first HBO shows. I watched that when it was originally broadcast. Brutal. You're right about JK, too. That show found him.

Tidbit: I was at an indie movie about 6 months ago in Greenwich Village (NYC), and some of the actors did a Q&A following. Lee Tergesen was in the film. He was sitting behind me. When he was introduced, I turned around, pointed at him, and yelled (such a NYer): "Beecher!!!" He smiled.

Oz was brilliant but when I watched when i was a bit older it was a bit silly a maximum security prison and the amount of stuff that happened in it.. It was a bit stupid some of the things that went on . Is topped watching it again so my memories of it were not ruined forever haha

Sliding in my rankings . . .Need help 0ITB, 2FT

    Foster (Jaku)
    Stone, Morgan, Pieters, Keane, Amat
    Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, Shaquiri, Capoue,
    Kun, Lukaku, Anichebe

Planning to hang onto Kun. Maybe switch out Lukaku. Maybe pick up a Chelsea defender. Not able to do much with 0 ITB. Suggestions?

You need Costa and/or Ibra the coming weeks

next week you could probably use a wildcard, but if you want to hang onto it, I think the main concern in your team is your defence and quite a lot of players out of form.

If you were to do a WC, here are my suggestions:

Foster and Jaku -> Courtois and Pickford

The pairing will offer home and away rotations, and the extra money on Courtois is worth it.

2 Goalkeepers or Defenders from the same team can sometimes be a risk, but not with Chelsea in the form they are in so I would get Alonso in too.

Defence: Stones is not a guaranteed starter, adding onto a lack of Man City clean sheet potential.
Leicester City have gone back to basics, but if you want to keep Morgan I suggest have a Leicester/Boro rotation and add Gibson or Friend to your team.
Pieters can offer a lot of points for his value but I would personally get Jones in from Man Utd.
And Keane, he should be very good at home, but clean sheet prospects away from home are slim.

Midfield: Keep Sanchez and Hazard, they are reliable point scorers.

Definitely ship Firmino out, and a good replacement would be Lallana imo.

Shaqiri can be a risky person to have so I suggest don't take the risk and get in Siggy as he is guaranteed starts and has great short term fixtures.

Capoue should definitely be out too, and it should really be a simple decision to swap to Zaha; but with the AFCON tournament looming, I'd think a better option would be Phillips.

Attack: Aguero is a reliable goalscorer for a few seasons now, but his price tag is hard to justify, but you could have a Man Utd/ Man City CAPTAIN rotation with home and away fixtures and do Lukaku -> Ibrahimovic.

Anichebe is good value, but don't expect much from him. If you want a better option I would spend a little bit more to get in Negredo or possibly Rondon.

Have Costa on your radar too with the form he is in.

      Hope I helped 😉
