Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What are Hazard owners doing? Surely a blank against Spurs will mean he needs to be sold, even with Leicester and Hull coming up. At his price he should be scoring double digits regularly.

Selling him allows another big hitter with form and fixtures like Kane, Alli, Lukaku, Costa, Kun etc.

Selling for Alli seems very tempting, with Dele back to his best and playing virtually as a striker.

I am thinking exactly this, currently have no Liverpool or City cover due to to a double up on Chelsea attack. Hazard has been quite recently and would be tempted to get rid in order to get another big hitter, may give him one more GW.

He's a great player plus Chelsea haven't had their quota of penalties yet. Being on penalties is big. Still think he'll be amongst the top points scorers at the end of the season.

I would advocate selling before difficult fixtures rather than after them. There's probably another fire sale with Hazard due this season but probably another bandwagon soon after - it always seems to be the way. And those who take part in both lose 2 transfers and miss the haul that triggers the bandwagon. Could still work, as long as your replacement(s) make up for this.

True. The opposite could be true, as you highlighted. Getting ahead of the curve by ditching him for someone with equally good fixtures and in way better form (AND lower ownership)...

Hazard still has third best points per match of anyone in the game (behind Alexis & Costa). He's been quietly performing without any explosions, but I'd keep him in for those two fixtures for sure.

With the amount of funds he ties up I am not pleased with his returns. There is more value in midfield with the likes of Alli, Phillips etc. What he does give is consistency at the moment whilst others suffer drops in form. I'm tempted to hold at the moment whilst he keeps returning...

I've sold already...for Phillips so pretty happy with that. Leaves me with money in the bank and plenty of options for GWk 21.

My thinking is that I already have Costa - who currently seems a more reliable source of points.

Also Hazard has a couple of good away scores but its at home where he usually does the damage. With two away games next up and Costa scoring home and away I decided to stick with the Spaniard and give my team some freedom in the transfer market.

Also ditching Hazard needn't be permanent. I can always get him back for HULL in three gwks time. Or get Pedro - who after all got 16 pts in that same Everton game when everyone got Hazard after he scored 19pt.

      PPG are good.
I know Chelsea have a couple of difficult fixtures coming up but their form is such I don't think it worries too much. That & Man City away keeps coming back -27 pts from Haz, Costa & Alonso.
If Pedro is nailed then it becomes a different matter - purely to enable Haz & Carroll to Pedro & Lukaku.

I don't think anyone is saying he's not a good fantasy player. In a season with so much choice fitting him and two good strikers and Sanchez can be tough for some...so sacrifices have to be made.

I see lots of so and so is better than so and so posts...but at the end of the day there are around a dozen brilliant players this season to own and its simply not possible to have them all.

Going without either Costa or Hazard is questionable - but they are much of a muchness and alot will depend on whether you want to use a mid slot for another, or a fwd slot for another.

I'd be nervous about selling Hazard, as soon as anyone gets sold they start returning points again. I think I'll be patient and keep him.

It's also easy to get caught up in chasing different players. Hazard in for Gameweek 12, Kane in for Gameweek 14, Kane to Ibrahimovic for Gameweek 18. You could now make a couple transfers and use the Hazard money for Kane, just to buy him back in a few weeks time for someone else, who then starts returning points. The best tactic might be just to stick with your big hitters for a while.

This is the question I ask myself every gw. I believe that costa and hazard together is not a good option. It's one or the other, not both.

They have very similar overall points. One is on pen and the other is more clinical. I personally don't see costa keeping his high conversion rate. He seems on fire though and every game, He delivers. Tough call..

Looking at team set ups, having costa upfront allow you to select more high performing/better priced mids eg: Sanchez, lallana, eriksen/Alli, Phillips.

If going with hazard, I have to sacrifice eriksen/Ali or lallana. Then I have to pick another premium forward instead of costa: Kane, lukaku or kun. To be honest, I don't really like any of the options: eriksen/Ali are cheaper than Kane, Kun is overpriced and lukaku is inconsistent.

Comparing costa and hazard just based on potential points, I prefer hazard as he is on pen and costa could regress.

Looking at team set-up only, I prefer costa as he allows us to select more better price mid and allow to spend more on our defenders.

Tough call, I currently have hazard but that could change any time

Kun has yet to prove himself this season, they have champs coming back up and fernandinho out again for 4 games. Have you seen Sanchez and Ibra's games coming up? Plenty of captaincy material there.

There has been a lot of tail-chasing this season, especially here in the FFS forum. For me, Hazard is a season keeper and will easily finish in the top 3 midfielders. He is fixture proof, has delivered a goal and an assist in his last two games and is facing lei and HUL in his next 3 games. As soon as Alli, Lukaku, Lalana or any of the other in-form players at the moment blank and Hazard explodes people will be buying him like crazy. Except that they would have missed a nice haul.

So after the 2 tough fixtures (liv, ARS) Chelsea have a run of bur, SWA, whm, WAT, sto, CPL, MCI, bou.

I can understand Jonty selling Hazard before the (tot) fixture to free up funds but it makes no sense to do so now with (lei, HUL) next up. Selling him after HUL means spending 2FT to take him out for 2 weeks assuming you want him back for the great run of fixtures above which you will because none of the other top teams have anywhere near as good fixtures in that period so you will want triple Chelsea coverage.

I'm leaning towards ditching Hazard, since I've decided I'm keeping Costa. As I already have Eriksen, though, I won't be getting Alli. I also need to free up funds to do Anichebe -> Lukaku/Defoe, so De Bruyne is out of the question.

Lallana? Mané (when back)? Wait for Coutinho? Give Firmino another chance? Or go without Liverpool and go for Pogba? Antonio/Payet worth a punt?

        Front 8:
Hazard Sanchez Eriksen Phillips De Roon
        Ibrahimovic Costa Anichebe

I have costa & hazard in my team. Costa stays as i bought him at 9.7 when aguero 1st got suspended & he's been so consistent & so much money in him.
Hazard has been in & out of my team which has meant i missed his everton haul & the ones at the start of the season, he's been in my team since after his 19 points.
I've captained a few times but got blanks.
I want to get rid but i just know as soon as i do think he will go another run & since i got him at 9.9 & i won't be able to buy him back if i sell now.

So I did siggy>phillips last night which leaves me with 3.1 itb. Now I have 3 options and would like some advice.

      A. Payet>Sanchez -4
      B. Origi>Lukaku -4
      C. Don't take the hit (payet got palace at home and lukaku have a toughish fixture)

      On this team currently :

      Schmeichel - Pickford
      Baines - Lovren - Smith - Cedric - Amat
      Sanchez - Hazard - Siggy - Firmino - Phillips
      Origi - Ibra - Rondon

Have 1 FT and 0.1 ITB. Ideally want to save the wild card but 9 of my players face top 6 teams in GW 21. Tempted to Wildcard to this team :

      Foster - Hennessey/Mannone
      Baines - Valencia - Ake - Chambers - Amat
      Sanchez - Hazard - Pogba/Alli - Lallana - Phillips
      Lukaku - Kane/Ibra - Barnes

Worth it or save it for later?

I play 3-5-2 so want a cheap 3rd and Barnes and Anichebe (injured) are the best alternatives.

I want to do Mkhtaryan -> Coutinho when fit. If I activate I can do Mkhtaryan -> Eriksen now and Eriksen/Alli -> Coutinho when fit.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

      Is Aguero worth getting in?

He was benched, then he scored and grabbed some bonus points. But at 12.8m do you want a more reliable option – a sure starter who will stay on the pitch and not get sent off?

Given that for most teams 4 premium (10m plus) options in midfield and forward positions will be the maximum is he worth drafting in.

In terms of points per match Aguero is definitely flagging this season compared to other cheaper options.

      Points per match

      Sanchez 7.2
      Costa 6.6
      Hazard 6.5
      Ibrahimovic 6.5
      Kane 6.1
      Coutinho 6.0
      Aguero/Mane 5.9
      Lukaku/Lallana 5.8
      Defoe 5.7

What do you think about Aguero?

      Worth getting in?
      Pleased you have him?
Prefer other cheaper, better or similarly performing players?

Note: Most prefer P90 than PPM as an indicator but given Aguero’s lack of starts and ability to pick up cards I think it is still highly relevant. Would be interesting to see a points per 90 breakdown though if anyone has time, to see where Aguero compares there.

Surely he'll start every game now though. Iheanacho was pretty useless and Kun came on to score the winner. I think he'll step it up in the second half of the season.

I probably wouldn't ditch Costa to get him but I have Kun and I'm pretty happy. Can downgrade to anyone in the game if he doesn't start again.

The constant threat of rotation and the fact ibra and Costa are machines currently rules him out.

I would be sacrificing a better balanced squad plus getting rid of either ibra or Costa who are scoring anyway.

The front three pair of ibra, costa, aguero is too rich for my liking and sacrifices too many mid priced midfielders who are scoring similar points for less money.

He's a punt, but if it pays off and you hit that sweet spot and he hauls then you're sitting pretty while everyone else panics. And that's when he's worth the money.

Brought in and captained for Burnley, as I'm chasing and needed a differential. Didn't quite go as well as hoped, but still got points. Keeping for a few games I guess, before probably "downgrading" to Kane or Costa.

I still think Aguero is the best player in the PL, but I won't be getting him for now since there are a lot of other options getting lots of points and performing well. Also I don't see me removing Costa or Ibra at the moment. The only heavy hitter that could go is Hazard. So no, I won't be getting Aguero anytime soon. For 12.8M I want a player who at least plays 90 mins.

      20. AA33

I don't see Aguero as a rotation, especially not until the CL commences I.e. until GW 25. Even Pep said that he didn't prefer starting Aguero for 2 games in 48 hours as he had a month off from match level fitness.

Unfortunately City under Pep don't seem worth it. Too much rotation and you can't predict what he will do. With City now having three strikers and also potentially playing a false nine in some of the big games. Too much chance of rotation.

I think we maybe seeing the beginnings of Augeros retirement from our FPL teams

Extra cash keeps me away atm.

I don't see him significantly outperforming the others enough to justify having weak 3rd/4th mids or non-existent defences.

There 4 (possibly 5) big hitting strikers out there.
            Can't have all of them.

The captaincy argument is difficult enough already.
Chances are every week one of the other popular options (Kane, Sanchez,Hazard,Ibra,Costa) couldl match or better Kun's score.

Said this at Xmas that last year Kane went basically pt for pt with Aguero from Boxing day until the end of the season - after an indifferent start to the season.

Also still not convinced Pep's style does Kun any favours by taking him away from the box where he was previously scoring his pts.

Finally my best FPL season of 3k was entirely Aguero-free. Ridden on the back of Costa, Chelsea defender (Ivanovic) and spreading the cash across 4 "big" mids.
So doesn't frighten me too much.

I wouldn't buy him or sell him at this stage. I snapped him up and was full off optimism, whereas now I'm feeling pretty indifferent.
If you can build a solid team around him then it's worth it IMO but it's the opportunity cost that the big question.

One thing is for sure......it's far easier to transfer him out than it is to transfer him in. If you have him then in a way you have the higher ground.

Feel free to question his value while I bank his 16 points from yesterday. He will be occasionally benched... but when he plays, he scores goals. That's a great guarantee in a game that involves so much luck.

He's not worth bringing in this month imo due to very favourable fixtures for Sanchez, Zlatan & Haz/Costa.
            GW21 Sanchez (SWA away)
GW22 Sanchez (BUR home) / Hazard or Costa (HUL home)
GW23 Zlatan (HUL home) / Sanchez (WAT home)

Quite happy with Ibra and Kane. I can't upgrade to Kun anyway. Might switch Kane to Costa and Hazard to Eriksen in due course to free up 2.0m or so but I'm done with City having been messed about with Aguero, Iheanacho, Stones and Gundogan this season. It's not like they are vastly outscoring other players anyway.

Currently I am in a mess. I dropped from 5K overall rank to 26K this morning.

Would be great if you guys could help me out with this team:

          Pickford/Grant
          Alonso*, PVA, McAuley, Amat*, Barragan*
Sanchez, Mane*, Siggy, Eriksen, De Roon
          Costa, Ibra, Rondon

I know I need to get rid of Mane and Siggy but I have been taking hits recently and that has cost me some points.

Still at the top of my ML with 30 points gap and dropped 5 places at the other big ML (Was at top, dropped to 6th now).

I can't seem to figure out who to go for.

This does depend on your defenders staying fit so you should not make any transfers before just before deadline.

          Friend or Chambers?

Decided to use spare cash to bring in a boro defender - have exactly 4.4.

Should I bring in Friend or Chambers?

Had Friend until injury and was pleased with him - looked great yesterday too - but concerned about rotation with Fabio now - I know Barragan injured but don't know how that will affect defence going forward - does boro have another replacement?

Is Chambers the safer option?! Is he nailed?

De Roon - Alli - Lallana - Sanchez - Phillips
          Ibrahimovic - Costa - Gray

I've had red arrows 3 weeks in a row now. Just did Cedric --> Ake, anything else you suggest?

          Heaton / Pickford
          Alonso / Ake / Jones / Friend / Amat
          Sanchez / Alli / Hazard / Phillips / Lallana
          Costa / Ibra / Anichebe

Jones to Brunt? I'm 0.1 short of Jones to Baines...

Hi. Ideas what to do next?

          Grant, Pickford
          Alonso, Valencia, Cedric, Holebas, Amat
          Sanchez, Hazard, Pogba, Phillips, Allen
          Ibra, Costa, Anichebe
          2FTs, 2.1ITB

          Thinking Holebas -> Ake/Chambers.

Today's hot topic really should be directed around the third striker.

Which option is best if you have two heavy hitters upfront?

Origi has not started the last two. Benteke missing pens. Defoe keeps ticking over - is he the third striker we need to turn to?

Had Benteke since GW4.. Starting to lose patience. Hopefully a big score against Swansea gets him back on track tonight.

The mid price third striker spot is an eternal merry go round. Either go 352 (lots of value in midfield) or with 3 big hitters up top.

But with Hazard Sanchez Eriksen Phillips already in my 11 I rly don't see perfect fixtures/value in 5 mid now...

            I've narrowed it down to
            Lukaku (if you can afford)
            Defoe (deadly assassin)
            Barnes/Anichibe (play 3-5-2)

            Also I noted that going
Kane/Costa/Ibra is doable with Philips and still having 2 decent defenders.

Points wise/ppg YES, but it is Sunderland and that's hard to stomach and I think that's the big turn off in general.
I'm 0.1 short of Origi > Defoe which is agonising as hecreally looks a fire and forget option.

Agreed. I'm done with the third striker spot merry go round and am looking for consistency. I'm hoping Origi keeps his spot for now, but I'm getting tempted into 3-5-2 and Barnes.

What is the template 5 these days?

              Hazard, Sanchez, Alli, Phillips, Lallana

How did you crowbar in all those strikers?

If you can afford Defoe then he looks the best option. Lets wait on Benteke and see how he does tonight.

Otherwise I'm done with the 3rd striker spot at less than 7m. I've gone 3-5-2.

Matty Phillips at 5.7 looks a better option than any of the £6m~ strikers

Defoe has been BRILLIANT value this season. I'm a fool for taking him out this gameweek but wanted to have a bit of fun with WBA/Palace nice fixtures coming up, went for Rondon so may pay me back long term.

He's now quite pricey though, but falls under the same bracket as Lallana/Alli. With Sunderland you know he's likely to be involved in any goals they happen to score, guaranteed starter.

Origi is too much of a rotation risk.

Benteke - Wait and see tonight, if he can't do it against Swansea who can he do it against? Also with Remy coming back into it, could limit his minutes though Big Sam is likely to keep the faith with the big striker.

Rondon - Possibly in a similar situation now with Robson-Kanu, although he came on and played on the wing yesterday I believe? Hopefully hit's some form soon but playing for a good West Brom side.

Carroll - West Ham don't score enough goals and Carroll hasn't looked his best since coming back, for me Antonio is the stand out option in the West Ham attack so would rather go 3-5-2 than have him.

I felt Lukaku is the way to go so I bought him 3 gameweeks ago and sold Origi. He has strong fixtures but I do hate the fact that he's not on pens. Maybe I should get Baines too.

I've reverted to a 3-5-2 for the foreseeable future. Nobody stands out in that bracket.
It was basically a choice of either Lallana or a mid priced striker and I think he trumps them all

          Reposted, sorry !

          Need some help !

REPOST - Sorry couldnt reply previously.

A few people asked why Im ditching Lallana. I'm a Man Utd fan and feel Pogba and Alli will be better assets short-mid term. Also i need to be a little different as im chasing.

          Team:

          Heaton Pickford*
          Brunt Gabriel Jones HOLEBAS Amat
          Sanchez Hazard LALLANA Phillips CAN
          Aguero Ibrahimovic Carroll

1FT with 1.2m in the bank.

Behind in ML and playing catch up.

          A. Lallana & Holebas 》Payet & Ake
          B. Lallana & Can 》 Alli & Stanislas
          C. Lallana & Can 》 Pogba & Stanislas
